AP News, I'm Ben Thomas at the Republican National Convention, former presidential candidate, Nikki Haley. "Donald Trump has my strong endorsement, period." How Speaker Mike Johnson promised Congress wouldn't investigate the assassination attempt on Trump. "That work has already begun. The American people deserve to know the truth and we will ensure accountability. I promise you that. I promise you that." Meanwhile, Alana Dierker-Richer reports. "Better law enforcement officials are warning now of potential retaliatory acts of violence, saying they've seen an uptick of threatening rhetoric online." Addressing the NAACP convention in Las Vegas, President Biden spoke again about heated rhetoric. "Just because we must lower the temperature, and our politics is very deviled, this doesn't mean we should stop telling the truth. Who you are, what you've done, what you don't do. That's fair game." Succah Magane reports there was a threat from Iran before the attempt on Trump's life. Upon learning of it, the Biden administration told the Secret Service, which surged resources to protect Trump. That wasn't enough to prevent Saturday's attack. While in office, Trump ordered the killing of a top Iranian general. "He was a bloodthirsty terror, and he's no longer a terror. He's dead." National Security Council says Tehran has threatened former Trump administration officials ever since. An NSC spokesman says there is no known link between Saturday's shooter and any accomplices, foreign or domestic. Sagar Magane, Washington. In back in Milwaukee, Lisa Dwyer reports there was a police shooting. Police officers from Columbus, Ohio, providing additional security for the Republican National Convention, shot and killed a Milwaukee man about a mile away. The angry residents from the neighborhood who say the man was well known among locals. I'm Lisa Dwyer. This is AP News. A company owned by former President Trump is selling a new speaker at Donahue has the story. "The white high tops are being sold as fight, fight, fight, high tops, and cost $299. They show an image of Donald Trump with streaks of blood on his cheek and pumping his fist in the air after he was targeted in an assassination attempt Saturday. It's available on a website that sells Trump-branded shoes and is run by CIC Ventures, a company Trump reported owning in his 2023 financial disclosure. The company says the high tops are limited edition, and anyone who buys them will get them in September or October. It also said 10 pairs will be randomly autographed. CIC Ventures is the same company that sold never surrender high tops, shiny gold sneakers with an American flag detail for $399.
