This is AP News, I'm Rita Falle. The National Weather Service is warning about the heat risk for parts of the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Mississippi Valley today, and that's not all. The AP's Donna Warder. Over the weekend in Utah, three hikers died in state and national parks. In cases, authorities believe were heat related. A father and his adult daughter got lost on a strenuous hike in Kenyonland's National Park in triple digit temperatures. National Weather Service meteorologist Frank Pereira says expect the intense heat to continue today. Temperatures are out across a good portion of the western US. They're going to remain above normal. Many of the typical locations in the desert southwest will reach up above 100 each day. But Pereira says a cold front, working its way across the center part of the US, will eventually make its way to the eastern US leader this week, and that should provide some relief for some folks. It was a big night for Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. He appeared on the opening night with a bandage over his right ear, two days after surviving that attempted assassination. House Speaker Mike Johnson saying, "I formally declare President Donald J. Trump and J.D. Vance, as the Republican nominees for president and vice president of the United States." Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, the new Republican vice presidential nominee, says the Democrats are dodging questions about President Biden's abilities. "It is not public spiritedness to call for him to step down when he's about to lose an election. They should have been doing it years ago, and it's not just Kamala Harris, it's Nancy Pelosi, the entire Democratic apparatus." J.D. Vance on Fox News Channel's Hannity. The President Biden's returning to the campaign trail today, he'll speak at the NAACP convention courting black voters. And Israeli airstrikes said to have killed 17 Palestinians in a declared safe zone outside Hanyunis. This is AP News. In Ukraine, they're trying to develop a robot army to fight Russia. Ukraine is looking for a strategic edge against Russia through technological innovation. "We are living in a future." Andrei Denasenko heads a drone production company. "With the drones, with the machines, with the robots." There are some 250 such defense start-ups across Ukraine, developing ecosystem of hidden workshops and labs, building a robot army in abandoned warehouses and factory basements. "This type of vehicle will be the game changer, and in the nearest future." Not just airborne, but on the ground, uncatapular tracks. "Lend-drawn will be made the main battlefield." Denasenko says the aim is to overcome that shortage of soldiers, "With the internet, effectively creating a new way of war." "Made the dirty job without people. I'm Ben Thomas."
