Show me that smile Show me that smile Don't waste another Let it on you crying We're low and unity We know we're near the best It's ready to begin Oh, as long as we got each other We got the world's pretty light And our heads with you and me We gotta be Blue up here streamers We have a good dream And as long as we keep on giving We can take anything that comes our way We can let us shine All the time We got each other Sharing the life to love [Music] Hey everybody, it's Taylor the Latte Boy And you just downloaded Episode 105 Of Pot as my co-pilot Normally this would be the part of the show Where I introduce both of my co-hosts Taffy Carlisle, Huffington, and Rodan But it's just me tonight We have a crazy week, all three of us coming up Myself, not only with all of the gay days But also, I am leaving first thing Tomorrow morning to go to Disney World Pre-gay days, spend some time with my family Who's in town, my dad and his wife And my six-year-old sister And Taffy has four million trips planned For the next few weeks, including gay days So she's doing a lot of packing And has some other things that I'm sure she'll talk about On the next episode that she's on And Rodan is busy with some stuff up in Monroe So I just thought tonight it would be just me I have some music that I'm going to play for you guys So I know Michael's going to hate this episode Because he doesn't like episodes where there's, you know He doesn't like podcasts where there's music At least he's told me that before I don't know, Michael, do you still feel that way? Actually, at this point, once I said music he's probably deleted it But, and also just tell some little stories about the music That I'm going to play and References towards it, that sort of thing I tried taping one of these the other night And it was a disaster And I forgot how hard it is to actually just talk by yourself Though I talk to myself all the time Talking out loud to all of you and not having That immediate feedback like I do when I talk with Rodan And Taffy is a little weird So hopefully you guys will continue listening to this all the way through If not, don't worry, they'll be back next week in some capacity I just got confirmation that Rodan is actually coming to Gay Days Talked him a little while ago on the phone and he'll be flying in Thursday He should be getting in about the same time that I know that Pat and Melanie are And maybe they'll run into each other at the airport And it'll be like long lost friends who've never actually met And actually we're all going to around the same area So maybe you guys can coordinate a shuttle together I forgot to mention that to him, I'll have to say something to him about that later on While I'm talking about my co-hosts, why don't I talk about some music That reminds me of both of them or when I hear this music I think of them And I'm going to start with Miss Taffy Carlisle Huffington Taffy, as we talked about on the episode that we had That was related to our favorite albums, is a Hughes Shadde fan And so any time I hear Shadde, obviously the first person I think of Is Taffy Carlisle Huffington But I picked the song "Is It A Crime" for a particular reason that actually has nothing to do with Taffy Back in 1993, I was one of the participants in the March on Washington for GLBT issues And it was really my first experience as a gay man going and doing anything even remotely political Though I just sort of went because it sounded like a lot of fun And I remember the night before the big March My friends and I were wandering around and we walked to the...we were on the mall Right by the Capitol and all that and we were at the Washington Monument And right at the bottom of the Washington Monument there was a huge drag competition going on They had flown in drag queens from all over the world And I remember this large, muscular, African American drag queen Who was in some huge scarlet o'hara off the shoulder Long, crinlin, you know, hoop, skirt sort of thing Came out and lip synced to the song "Is It A Crime?" And that was the first time I ever heard that song So any time I hear "Is It A Crime?" I think of drag queens And if I'm thinking of drag queens, of course I'm also thinking of our Miss Taffy So with "Outfurther Do" here is "Is It A Crime?" by Shaw Day [Music] This may come, this may come with some surprise But I miss you, I could see through all of your lies But still I miss you He takes my love, but it doesn't feel like mine He tastes her kiss, kisses all on one and not mine He tastes her kiss, kisses all on one and not mine He tastes her kiss, kisses all on one and not mine "Is It A Crime?" is "Is It A Crime?" that I still want you And I want you to want me too My love is whiter, whiter than it's only a name My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter "Is It A Crime?" is "Is It A Crime?" I still want you And I want you to want me too My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter "Is It A Crime?" is "Is It A Crime?" But I still want you And I want you to want me too My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter My love is whiter, my love is whiter Nobody does it better Makes me feel sad for the rest Nobody does it, have as good as you Baby, you're the best I wasn't looking, but somehow you found me I tried to hide from your love like heaven above me The spy who loved me is keeping all my secrets safe tonight Nobody does it better Though sometimes I wish someone could Nobody does it Wait the way you do Why'd you have to be so good The way that you hold me Whenever you hold me There's some kind of magic inside you That keeps me from running But just keep it coming How'd you learn to do the things you do Nobody does it better Makes me feel sad for the rest Nobody does it, have as good as you Baby, baby, you're the best Baby, you're the best Baby, baby, you're the best Baby, baby, you're the best Baby, baby, you're the best Baby, baby, you're the best Baby, baby, you're the best Baby, baby, you're the best Baby, baby, you're the best Baby, baby, you're the best I am also going to, of course, have to do a song about my man, Mr. Babaloo And the song I'm going to pick for him isn't necessarily a sappy song But it is a song that we both have very fond memories of As we talked about on the show before, or as I've talked about on the show We are huge Disney fans, we go to Disney World as often as we possibly can And we kind of have a tradition that usually before we hit the Howard Franklin Bridge Heading over into Tampa to get to I4, which takes you to Orlando We have to play this song "Candy" by Big May Bell It's from, I guess, the late '50s, early '60s And I love this song just because it's this old, bluesy, jazzy song That's just kind of very silly lyrics, and this woman's voice is absolutely amazing It just sounds to me like a hug, it just sounds like she's hugging you when she's singing the song And she hits a note at the very end of this, which the first time I played it for Babaloo He laughed his ass off, he just thought it was the funniest noise, this little squeak that this big woman lets out And as such, anytime that we drive down to Disney World, we have to play this song as soon as we get in the car as we're heading on to 275 So, those of you who are children of the '80s might remember this song as playing a prominent role in a scene from the Cosby Show And it's just a great song, so I hope you enjoy it This is Big May Bell with "Candy" "Candy" "Why I call my sugar candy" "Mmmm" "I'm sweet on candy" "And candy, he's sweet on me" "He understands me" "Yes, my understanding can be" "Mmmm" "My candy's always handy" "Cause when I need sympathy" "Oh, I wish that there were for him" "And I could love that much, that much more of him" "He has taken my complete heart" "And I got a sweet tooth for my sweet heart" "Candy, candy, candy, candy" "He's gonna be just dandy" "Mmmm" "The day that I'll take my candy" "And make him mine" "Mine, oh, mine, yeah" "Mine, oh, mine" "The day that I'll take my candy" "And make him mine" "Oh, mine" Another person who I talked about on the episode that we talked about our favorite albums that I love is Michelle Indegiocello and with that, Rodan just turned off the episode. Are we fast-forwarded to the next song? I'm a huge fan of hers. She's just this amazing powerful songwriter and I just love her. The first thing that I ever heard of hers was actually the song "If That's Your Boyfriend" "He Wasn't Last Night" which I remember seeing the video I think on BET or VH1 and it was just this amazing visual, it's just black and white faces and these women that were talking about something going on in their lives over the song and it was riveting to watch and I absolutely love it. It reminds me of going to bars when I was first coming out of the closet I was probably like 21-22 and this came out, I think this came out in '93, I'm not sure and I've been in love with Michelle ever since. So this is "If That's Your Boyfriend, He Wasn't Last Night" and I can do all the words to the song too, by the way. I totally know all the words. ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ When I was growing up in Philadelphia, my family was a huge fan of the movie Rocky, and my dad actually loves the movie Rocky, but more importantly, he loves the movie Rocky 2. Rocky 2 is one of those rare instances where the sequel, in my opinion, actually improves on the original story. Even though it was much more high enough, it was a huge fan of the movie. Even though it was much more Hollywood, it's the movie that I remember watching when I was a kid. It used to be on this channel Prism in Philadelphia, which was kind of like a local sports channel where they showed all the Sixers and the Flyers and the Phillies games. And when they weren't playing that, they would play movies, and one of the movies they would always play as Rocky 2. And anytime this movie was on, my family and I would watch it, and as such, I love the music from it. It's very '70s, very cheesy, but I'm going to pick a song that actually just sort of reminds me of what it was like to grow up in Philadelphia. It's a song called Philadelphia Morning by Bill Conti. It's an instrumental. I love the French horn in this. It reminds me, it sounds foggy to me. I don't know, when I hear it, it just kind of reminds me of what it's like to be driving to school in the morning when I was a kid and just have those foggy, wet mornings up in the Northeast. And there's something very calming about this music, and I just absolutely love it. So, this is Philadelphia Morning with Bill Conti. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] I love the Indigo Girls. The Indigo Girls remind me of my freshman year in college, and I started college the month that never mind by Nirvana came out. So, I sort of went from listening to very top 40 pop music in high school to within the few months, all of a sudden everybody was into grunge, and it was all about Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and Nirvana and all that. I never really got into grunge very much. I definitely have some songs that I like, but they're not necessarily the ones that you really think of as far as, you know, what the hell's the name of that song? The big one for Nirvana. What the fuck was it? Smells like Teen Spirit. I was never a big fan of that. I never quite got the whole Nirvana thing. Though that being said, I remember where I was when I heard the Kurt Cobain died, and I was in Emerald City Comics on Seminole Boulevard in Seminole, Florida. I was buying comic books, and somebody said something about the guy from Nirvana killed himself, and I remember thinking that can't be right. And I went home, and Kurt Loder was on TV talking to Courtney Love, who was probably coked out of her mind at the time, but whatever. Anyway, we're not talking about that. We're talking about the Indigo Girls. The song "Hammer and Anale" is one of those songs that is a very uplifting song to me, and it kind of is one of those that you don't, you sort of forget about it until it comes on your iPod shuffle, and you listen to it, you think to yourself, okay, I need to get up and do something. And that's kind of the message, in my opinion, that's the message of what the song is all about. So this and Vanilla Candles remind me of being in the dorms at Eckerd College back in 1991-92. So this is "Hammer and Anale" with the Indigo Girls. ♪♪♪ ♪ Clearing webs from above ♪ ♪ A blistering hand on a handle of a shovel ♪ ♪ I've been digging too deep, always do ♪ ♪ I see my face on the surface ♪ ♪ I look the right like Narcissus ♪ ♪ A dark abyss of an emptiness ♪ ♪ Standing on the edge of a drowning glue ♪ ♪ I look behind my ears for the green ♪ ♪ And even my sweat smells please ♪ ♪ Glare off the white, hurts my eyes ♪ ♪ I gotta get out of bed, get a hammer and an ale ♪ ♪ Learn how to use my hands ♪ ♪ Now you're just my head, I think myself in a jail ♪ ♪ Now I know a refuge and a rose ♪ ♪ From a chin in a hand and a thoughtful close ♪ ♪ Gotta tend the earth if you wanna walk ♪ ♪ Add a lot of contention ♪ ♪ Sit around for 50 years and think of ♪ ♪ Like the pence he's not to see in the road to hell ♪ ♪ And just where it starts ♪ ♪ My life is more than a vision ♪ ♪ The sweetest part is acting after making a decision ♪ ♪ Start to see in the hole as the sum of its parts ♪ ♪ Glare off the white, hurts my eyes ♪ ♪ I gotta get out of bed, get a hammer and an ale ♪ ♪ Learn how to use my hands ♪ ♪ I just my head, I think myself in a jail ♪ ♪ Now I know a refuge and a rose ♪ ♪ From a chin in a hand and a thoughtful close ♪ ♪ I gotta get out of bed, get a hammer and an ale ♪ ♪ Learn how to use my hands ♪ ♪ In a hand and a thoughtful close ♪ ♪ I gotta get out of bed, get a hammer and an ale ♪ ♪ In a hand and a thoughtful close ♪ ♪ I gotta get out of bed, get a hammer and an ale ♪ ♪ In a hand and a thoughtful close ♪ ♪ I gotta get out of bed, get a hammer and an ale ♪ ♪ My life is part of a global life ♪ ♪ I found myself becoming more immobile ♪ ♪ When I think a little girl in the world can't do anything ♪ ♪ And it's the nature in my community ♪ ♪ And I'm a street person, my responsibility ♪ ♪ If I ever care in the world, I have a gift to blame ♪ ♪ But the fear of my ears won't agree ♪ ♪ Even my sweat smells clean ♪ ♪ Where all the white hurts my eyes ♪ ♪ I gotta get out of bed, get a hammer and an ale ♪ ♪ Learn how to use my hands, not just my hair ♪ ♪ I think myself in a jail ♪ ♪ And I know a revenue is really gross ♪ ♪ From the chin in my hand and a thoughtful close ♪ ♪ Got it in the earth if you wanna rise ♪ MUSIC Along with the Indigo Girls, a band that I absolutely love and have, it's just about everything that they've ever recorded as bare-naked ladies. Some of which I got it legally, some of which, let's just say, not. And what I love about them is their use of humor, the fact that they are so creative and the different genres that they do. They're one of the bands that I've never gotten to see perform live, and I'm really sad that Stephen Page recently left the band. Because I think that one of the best things about the band was the fact that Steve Page and Ed Robinson, the two main guys in bare-naked ladies, played off each other so well. One of their best songs is a song about a window washer who just happens to be standing up on top of the skyscraper washing windows. And it's when I fall, you can totally picture yourself standing up there with this guy as he's washing windows and how he is terrified while he's standing way up on this ledge. So if you like what you hear and you want to hear what Taffy has to say, Taffy has a great interest in music and loves varying genres of music, so I'd love to hear what she would put together with something like this. And Rodin, I kind of have lost track as to what Rodin likes and what he doesn't like. I know he likes Tori Yamos and Alanis Morissette. I think I'm going to actually end with a song and the song that I'm going to end with is probably my all time favorite Madonna song. And this is when I feel as though she was at the height of her success and the height of her, I don't want to say creativity because I think she's still, well, she was creative.
