Locked On Dolphins - Daily Podcast On The Miami Dolphins

Locked on Dolphins POSTCAST: Dolphins Pound NE Patriots 34-15- 3rd Straight Win Starts Playoff Push

Tua Tagovailoa and the offense lit up the New England Patriots for 317 yards and four touchdowns with no turnovers, the defense had five sacks and forced two turnovers, and the Miami Dolphins cruised past the New England Patriots 34-15 for their 3rd straight win. Each week, the Dolphins continue to play more like the Super Bowl contenders we thought they would be heading into this season, and (healthy) Tua is a huge reason why. Tagovailoa, now 7-0 in his career vs the Pats, has thrown seven TD passes with no interceptions in his last two games. Since his return vs Arizona on October 27, the fifth-year star has thrown 11 TD passes with just one pick. He is completing nearly 75% of his passes, playing like the MVP candidate our host Jim "Gries" said he would be coming into this season. The Dolphins (5-6) moved into 8th-place in the AFC standings, meaning they are very much still alive in the playoff picture. The Dolphins have swept the Pats in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1999-2000. Two of Tua's TD throws went to De'Von Achane, who has scored 19 times this season to lead the team. Jaylen Waddle played his best game of the season- 8 catches for a buck forty-four and a 23-yard touchdown that pushed the Miami lead to 31-0 at the start of the fourth quarter. Jonnu Smith had 87 yards on nine catches, including a touchdown on the Dolphins' 2nd drive that opened the scoring. Tyreek Hill caught five balls for Miami, as Tua spread it around all day long. The Miami defense was just as great, flying all over the field wreaking havoc for Drake Maye and the Pats offense all day long.  Zach Siler had a sack/strip forced fumble and a fumble recovery, and Rookie Chop Robinson played his best game so far with 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and all kinds of pressures. Linebacker Tyrel Dodson added an interception for Miami.

The Dolphins D shut out the Pats until Maye hit Austin Hooper on a wide-open 38-yard touchdown throw on 4th and forever to make it 31-7 with 13:43 left.

Maye completed 22 of 37 passes for 221 yards with 26 yards rushing. New England's best drive of the first half lasted 12 plays and covered 80 yards but included three accepted offensive penalties and ended in a missed 45-yard field goal.

Backup QB Skylar Thompson replaced Tua in the 4th, but a bad exchange on a handoff to rookie RB Jaylen Wright on his first play, resulting in a fumble that Christian Gonzalez picked up and returned 63 yards for a touchdown that cut Miami's lead to 31-15. Tagovailoa returned for the next drive.

Dolphins LB Anthony Walker Jr. sustained a noncontact hamstring injury in the second quarter. He did not return.
