Well, I grew up poor or because this happened to me. I'm never going to forgive my dad because he wronged me. It's his fault on this way. Everyone's out to get me. All I know is broken relationships. This is just the way it is. And if you let victim mentality rule your life, it will paralyze you. We all, we all struggle with a victim mentality whether you realize it or not. In some way, because we have an enemy, because Satan is out there prolly like a lion seeking someone to devour, one of his biggest schemes is to convince you that you are a victim, that you don't have what it takes, that the Holy Spirit isn't enough that you can't defeat that sin, that you can't make that change, that you can't make that move. That's how he attacks. It's treating you like a victim. You might be walking in here having been victimized, but Jesus can rewrite your story. You are a victor if you are in Christ. It's easy to live with a victim mentality thinking we're at a disadvantage. We were short changed. We can't do anything great. Look at how we were raised. We can't love again. The last person hurt us. We can't live happy. We've been through too much. As long as you accept that you're a victim, you're going to get stuck. You may have been through unfair situations, but don't use it as an excuse to feel sorry for yourself, to give up on life, to not pursue your dreams. You have to take the hands you've been dealt and make the most of it. Nothing that's happened to you has stopped your destiny. That person that did you wrong, they walked away. It may have been painful, but they didn't ruin your life. They don't have that much power. If they could stop God's plan, they would be bigger than God. Don't let one bad break, one injustice, one difficult season cause you to be sour. Have a chip on your shoulder. We have to make the choice. Are we going to live bitter, discouraged, thinking we're a victim of our circumstances? Or are we going to believe that God is in control, that He's ordering our steps, that His plans for us are for good? Instead of having a victim mentality, switch over to a victor mentality. That bad break is not how your story ends. The loss, the sickness, the injustice is not going to limit the rest of your life. I want to even challenge you tonight to begin to not let Satan tell you that what happened to you is who you are. I want to begin to challenge you to think, hey, maybe I'm not a victim, but more so because of Jesus, I'm a survivor. I've prevailed. And because of Jesus, I don't even have to just survive and get by, but I can thrive, that I can forgive, that I can be healed, that no matter what's happened to you, you can be new, you can be healed. Those who are courageous learn how to develop a victor rather than a victim mindset. Like the Apostle Paul, who said in Romans 831, if God is for us, who can be against us? That's the attitude of a victor. God wants you and me to develop that overcomer, that victor mindset. God is using all of it for His purpose in your life, and that is to make you like Jesus Christ. Don't allow that victim mentality to enter your thinking. When unfair things happen, thoughts will whisper just your luck. Another bad break. You're scarred now. Life will always be difficult. That's when you have to dig down deep and say, "No thanks." I refuse to be a victim. I refuse to live bitter, angry, thinking that I've been short chains. I know God is still on the throne. I know He didn't bring me this far to leave me. What was meant for my harm, He's turning to my advantage. What victim mentality will do is it will take that thing that is meant to describe your story and tell you it defines you. It says, yeah, this is the way it is. This is who you are. You are what happened to you. You will not change. You should just accept in these moments that were meant to simply describe you. I lost my mom to cancer. Someone manipulated me. I was born with a disability. That's a part of my story, not the point of my story. It doesn't define me, but a victim mentality will tell it that that is what defines you. That is who you are. That's who you will always be. But we know that Jesus is who defines us. The enemy would love to convince you to be forever the victim. Always some reason to not move forward. Every voice will say, "You're a victim. Come on accepted. It's not fair. God's forgotten about you. Don't give it the time of day. God is watching you. He sees you shaking off the self-pity, doing the right thing when it's hard, being good to people that weren't good to you, giving it your best when you're not seeing progress. Your time is coming. When you say no thanks to bitterness, no thanks to self-pity, no thanks to living defeated, God will take what was meant for harm and turn it to your advantage." But as long as you're playing the role of victim, you're giving the enemy permission to keep you defeated. This is a new day. No more forever the victim. Try a different approach forever the victor. A victim mentality says this is just the way it is. But a victim mentality says this may be the way it is. This may be a part of your story, but Jesus can use it. Jesus wants to use it. Jesus wants to use your greatest pain for his glory and purpose if he would let him. But you have to take heart. You have to make the active choice to go from victim to victor. But take heart. He has overcome the world. He has overcome your circumstance. Left to yourself, you can do nothing. But with God, anything is possible. A victim mentality will tell you that everyone else and everything else is the problem. But you, but a victim mentality says because Jesus is the solution to my problem, I can face whatever lies ahead. A victim mentality says God can use anyone but me. But a victim mentality says God can use anyone even me, aka won't he do it. He will. He will. Well, it sounds like the tenants hit your rental property sure know how to throw a great party.
