Empty Space Have you ever experienced a certain kind of nothingness and emptiness in your life? Or all of a sudden, you find that your life has no meaning at all? You try to figure out what is happening with you and try to solve the problem, but it makes no sense. Then you start looking for some books about God, or about life to read, hoping that you will get motivated somehow, but nothing works. And you don't know what else to do. You live day by day with that feeling of nothingness and emptiness in your heart without knowing how to get out of it while wondering, "Where is God in my life? Why is He giving me such an experience?" You see people around you are okay and you are not. You feel discouraged and not happy. Let me tell you today, don't worry, just hold on. God is right there in that empty space. He is the person on whom you need to focus. He is giving you a time to rest, to pause and to gain more strength and energy for the next journey. Remember, everything has its own season according to God's time. Yes, all you need to do is to accept and live to the full whatever you are going through, while waiting in hope for God's time, because it is meant to happen to you at this time. Charles R. Swindle says, "When you accept the fact that sometimes seasons are dry and times are hard and that God is in control of both, you will discover a sense of divine refuge, because the hope that is in God and not in yourself." Yes, this word is so true. Dry seasons and hard times are God's divine mercy in disguise. He is not silent and looking away from you. He just has another plan for you, a much better one. And in the right time, he will let himself be known to you and will fill that empty space of yours and make it overflow with graces and delights. The only thing you can do is to remain faithful and prayer. Prayer changes things. I mean, every day. Yes, prayer changes everything, not a few things, not some things, not even many things, but everything. It may not change according to the way you want it to be, but believe me, it changes everything. All you need to do is to pray an absolute faith. It is hard. Yes, I know it is, but it is not impossible. And that way, God's will is realized through your faith. Psalm 46, verse 10, in RSV, invites us to be still and know that I am God. Yes, there might be something or some areas in your life that no matter what you do, it does not seem to change. The best way is to submit it to God through prayer. Even in that moment of prayer, you feel nothing. You do not feel any consolation. Just be faithful, be still, and quiet before God. Tell him that you are waiting for him as he has always been waiting for you. You may feel hopeless and want to give up, but I tell you, just show up every day. Let him know that you believe he is your God. Be still, do not panic. He is your God indeed, and he will come to fill your empty space. This process may take time. You need to be patient with yourself as well as with the way things are. It does not matter how slowly the process is. What matters is you won't stop, that you will continue to move on and go forward. Stay faithful in the process. Don't fight it. Don't try to fill your empty spaces with drugs with unhealthy entertainments. Those will just give you a glimpse of relief, but they will never be able to fill your emptiness. Instead, have faith, endure, and enjoy the fact that you are still alive. Feel every breath you have. Look at every day coming and going. Enjoying every laughter that happens, and wipe away every tear that is trenching your cheeks. Thank God that they are happening to you. All that you have, they are all from him. Keep holding on to the beautiful promise he has in store for your life. For every empty space keeps you alive. Believe with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your soul, and with all your being that his goodness will cover and fill this emptiness with something brand new, with something much better and more than you ever hope or prayed for. God is doing a beautiful work in you. Philippians chapter 1 verse 6 in RSV brings you this promise to hope for I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Yes, God will have the final say for your life, for your empty space, and one day your heart will be filled with joy. God, the emptiness and nothingness I feel in my heart every now and then teaches me that you are a God of empty space too. I have been trying to run away, looking for a source of life that could fill my heart, but now I have found you, the source of life and hope. May you fill me with your spirit, the fountain of all wisdom, that I may grow in holiness and remain faithful to you amid the emptiness and nothingness in my heart. The void may remain with me for a little longer than I wanted, but I accept it for it is your will. May those empty spaces teach me to be patient and standing still and waiting for you. May those empty spaces teach me to listen to you who are constantly speaking to me in the depth of my heart, of my being.
