That when God closes a door, it's not because he doesn't love us, just the opposite. Sometimes because he does love us, he closes the door. Sometimes God shuts a door for my protection. And you think it's a bad thing that you lost your job or something went sideways. It doesn't feel good, but it's for your protection. You might have gotten fired, but you don't know why you got fired. And then he makes sense, but God had a bigger plan. Sometimes God removes a harmful person from your life for your protection. But God knows how to shut doors to protect you, and God knows how to open doors to bless you. And the door closes. You may very well find what it must be that I've done something wrong. That may be your first instinct. What do you, maybe a great disappointment in your life, may actually open the way for something greater that God is calling you to do? It's immature Christians that can only handle only getting their way. It's mature believers that understand to thank God for some doors that he closed in your life. When God says no, when something that's in your heart proves not to be the door that he opens for you, your faith is going to be tested. We love open doors, but we don't like closed doors. But what do we do with closed doors? We've got to trust God with those closed doors. So what do we do when we get to this place where God closes a door, when there's the breakup, when something you thought your future was going to be this, and it didn't happen like that? What do we do? We trust him. And we keep walking in faith and say, "Lord, this isn't how I wanted it. This isn't how I planned on it. This isn't what I thought would be, but I'm going to trust you with this." Because here's the deal. You and I don't know why, and we don't know what's next. We don't know why, and we don't know what's next, but God does. And if we'll trust him to be our shepherd, then he'll lead us and we can trust him, even when things don't go real well for us. We get discouraged. And we go back to the bottle, or we go back to the wrong person, or we quit being around Christians, or we quit reading Scripture. We kind of pout and salt. We kind of get angry. So if you're in a season of blocked doors, let me encourage you. Don't give up. Just take the next right step. Take the next right step. Do the next right thing. Keep doing the right things, and at the right time, the right door will open. Jesus said, "Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be open." I've discovered for you to properly appreciate and have a gratitude for open doors. You have to have first experienced a closed door. And I've discovered how I respond to closed doors will dictate the opportunities that God is able to give me in the future. So every closed door actually is a blessing in disguise for something that God is trying to prepare you for. Defer to God's better plan. God just has a better plan. It's not that your plan is bad. It's just that his plan is better. And so God just has plans that we know nothing of. So defer to his higher plan. My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts is this. And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts. It doesn't matter how long doors have been closed in your life. Hear me, please don't get used to them. Hear me, don't get used to closed doors. Don't get used to opportunity, because it's not a life sentence, it's a season. You just keep cultivating your gift and your anointing behind closed doors.
