Best Hall and Oates Song: Crowning a Champion!

Welcome back to Boozy Bracketology and the conclusion of our best Hall and Oates bracket. Last week, we weeded out the low-hanging fruit of the duo's top 10's, but this week it's nothing but winners, so the panel of Ben, Bryan, and John have their work cut out for them. Mike's back in the host chair in a wildly entertaining episode that sends 2024 out with a bang. We hope everyone has a great end to the year, and we look forward to seeing you in 2025 with plenty of new and exciting brackets. Until then... [MUSIC] Welcome back to Boozy Bracatology, the home of strong drink, strong opinions and crowning champions. And this week, this night we will be doing exactly the third of those things. We will be crowning the champions. And I'm like last week, I think that the strong opinions are going to come to bear a lot more. We are determining the best hauling out song of all time among their top 10 singles. And if you listen to the last round of our bracket, there was not a whole lot of contention there, have a sneaking suspicion, there will be more here. My name is Mike, I will be your host this evening, but I will not be casting a vote in these particular matchups. The three gentlemen that will have a lot of tough decisions up ahead. You're going to meet them right now. Starting off in Jacksonville, Florida with Ben Young. How are you doing and what are you drinking? >> Doing great. I'm still hot as balls here, and I'm still drinking some choice. Very expensive Cabernet Sauvignon from the, from that great winery, Francia, that likes to use the, the, a cube to, for their distribution method. So that's when I'm drinking. >> You know, don't knock the cube distribution. It's probably, you can probably get more, more wine for your, your buck and some of those, you know, transportation boxes. I don't know. >> Well, I'm, I'm a volume drinker. So it, yeah, it stacks better at least, right? That's what I, that's what I was trying to say. >> It really does. >> Next up out of Muscatine, Iowa, we've got Brian Nash. Brian, how you doing? What you drinking? >> I have wonderful. We went and saw the third Deadpool movie last night. No spoilers, but holy shit is that fun. >> As far as what I'm drinking tonight, I've got another fun one here. It's from the Lexic, Lexington, Kentucky, Lex, Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company. This is their bourbon barrel tart cherry or excuse me, bourbon barrel tart cherry wheat. So it's an 8% ABV, so not too shabby there. So wheat ale brewed with tart cherry is an ancient oak bourbon barrel. So this one should prove interesting. Oh, yeah, good bottle of good bottle pop, I love it. >> Oh, that's dangerous good. >> Very nice. And now I noticed you upped the alcohol by volume, was that after looking at the bracket up ahead? >> A little bit. >> A little bit? Yeah. >> Let's have some fun. >> Absolutely. Our final panelist of the night from Las Vegas, Nevada, we've got John Spee's, John Sir, same two questions to you. Well, last episode I told you I was drinking a cocktail called, I called a struggling bastard. Turns out I was wrong, it's called a suffering bastard. And that's exactly what I'm going to be this round, because this is the shit I'm here for. This is the tough decisions. This is the, we've got the peon songs out of the way, the fluff, it's gone. Now we're getting to the meat, the heart of it. And I'm super excited, I'm going to hurt some feelings, my feelings are going to get hurt. And in the end, we're all going to have one big hug fest, it's going to be great. >> That's right. Absolutely. Yeah, as I said at the end of last episode, the Elite Eight was exactly what I was expecting when hoping it to be. From there, I have no frickin' clue. I mean, I think I know what my choice would be, but I'm very curious to hear it all. But I did bring a pair of beers, just in case one wasn't going to be enough to get me through this. The second one is another one of the yazu half of Isons that I had on the first episode. But the first one I'm going to pop here, is actually a Dunkle style dark lager from Yeehaw Brewing, also out of Nashville. Just a little note, actually, excuse me, it's out of Johnson City, Tennessee. I knew it was somewhere in Tennessee, and I bought this in Nashville. I think that's why I was thinking it was out of Nashville. But nonetheless, as I loved me, a good Dunkle is a very good version of that particular variety. If you hear that second beer pop about halfway through, it's because things are going incredibly wrong. But we're going to see how this all shakes out here. We're going to be starting off with Ben, and your first choice is going to be between the number one seed of Rich Girl and the number five seed of Sarah Smile. Take us away. Yeah, I think it's time for me to reveal now that in Ben's opinion, Sarah Smile is the best song on this list. So they get near perfect scores, and for those who were catching up from last week, the way I'm rating this is, first, the music, if I just played the soundtrack, how much do I like the song? Then I look at, okay, if I just listened to the vocals with no music, how good is it? Then I look at, okay, if I just read the lyrics, how good are they, and then the overall feel. Sarah Smile in my book gets a near perfect score for each of those categories. Now, I'm biased because I absolutely love this song personally. I love ballads and soul for music, I grew up listening, I grew up in gospel in R&B and Detroit in the 80s. So I'm always going to have a soft place in my heart for ballads and moving music. Yeah, I haven't said that. It's not a landslide by any means. This was not an easy decision. Rich Girl's one of those iconic, hauling old songs, you know, the context and the premise of it is just fantastic, composition is amazing. But Ben is giving a very slight edge to Sarah Smile. And Sarah Smile picks up its first vote and is on the verge of the upsets, will Brian push it over or has Rich Girl got a fighting chance? Okay. These are both really, well, let's just start out with the eight songs that made it. John was absolutely right. We got the chaff out of the way so we can talk about the real, we've got the grain left, the chaff is gone. So all eight of these songs are there, but definitely the best hauling those songs out there. That said. I'm with you, Ben, that I do love a good soulful ballad. And Sarah Smile is probably the best ballad that they've got. I do like both of these songs. It is not an easy choice, but in the interest of being a chaos goblin, the way that I love to be, I'm going to go ahead and give a vote to Rich Girl. So that John has to make the decision on which one of these two gets to move on. Chaos Goblin, my favorite type of battle, I love it. That is a vote for Rich Girl. And we have a tie going into our final panels. This is the kind of stuff we live for in boozy bracketology. This did not happen at all in the first episode. It is happening on the very first vote of the night in the elite eight. Oh, man, and in a three person panel, the boozy bracketology, extremely unofficial rules are that the host has the opportunity to offer up a buzzer beater. Now, I've done enough of these with John's know that he is very frequently difficult to sway as he laughs. And honestly, that's probably good because I think both of these are fantastic songs. And I have not given enough of a thought to this, to really know which way I would go. I like Sarah Smile because it is, as we discussed in the last episode, it's a little more unique in Holland Oates discography. It's a little more of a soulful ballad type of thing, a lot more of a soulful ballad type thing. But Rich Girl is extremely catchy and it's a lot of fun. I don't know if you could really go wrong. I think I'd put on either one of these depends on my mood. And John, I really want to know what your mood is here. Where are you taking us? So I had the absolute pleasure of having Mr. Ben Young on the blast from our podcast twice to talk about music specifically. We talked about our favorite new Jack swing songs, which was one of my favorite episodes. Nice. We talked about our favorite, what Ben affectionately referred to as "painty dropper" songs. I think on the official list, I think we called it "Sexy Time" songs, but yeah. And I've come to find Ben has a, obviously, cultural, cultural unique take on a lot of music. And that was part of the reason why I definitely wanted to hear I can get Ben on here because Ben has opinions and I love him for that. Amen. That being said, Rich Girl is a song that I think at first listen, I didn't like too much, but I've actually grown to really love, mostly because I actually enjoy the lyrics of the song, which is not something I usually focus on, especially the spot where he repeats the same line, "You can rely on the old man's money twice." I typically don't like it unless it's like a blues song where that is the standard pattern when they repeat a line or if they do two lines and it just ends with the same word. But for some reason in Rich Girl, it just really works. Also, and this is a very simple thing. I like his opening of "You're a Rich Girl, You've Gone Too Far," blah, blah, blah, blah. And then the next time that phrase comes around, it's a bitch girl, it's gone, but it's gone too far and it's just very clever and it's really something that's grown on me. However, I really do think that there needs to be a hauling oats ballad in the final four because that is also something that they do well. And I agree that Sarah Smile is my favorite ballad, as I said before, and I think it definitely needs to move on so it gets my vote. You know what's fucked up about this? I was ready to fight. I was ready to have an argument and their job wasn't agrees with me. I'm like, "Damn it!" "Oh, that's the adrenaline now." The night ain't over, baby. The night ain't over. As a host, I had a, I had a, "Well, Sarah, what can I say? That's a bitch girl." Like, "Oh, locked in!" And then he did the switch, so. Oh. He did the double switch, or was it? He did. He did. Very well done. Excellent. Excellent. So, yeah. Like I said, I don't really think he could go wrong. Two great songs. Sarah Smile is the victor in that one, and we'll be moving into the final four. And the choices aren't getting an easier, gents, because next up, we've got the number three seed of Man Eater versus the number two seed, Private Eyes. Two songs that just about anybody who has listened to music in the last 40 years could probably call up in an instant. So this is not going to be an easy one, which means, of course, we're throwing Brian under the bus first. Like you do. All right. So, this one is a hell of a lot harder than the first one. In all honesty, I do think we got that first one right. Sarah Smile is a great song, and I'm not unhappy to see that move on at all. Man Eater versus Private Eyes, this is two of their best, absolute best. So one head to head already, this is two songs that, if somebody said this, these were the two that came to the final fight, nobody'd be surprised by it. Nope. But the way everything worked out, they're stuck here in the go and head to head in the elite eight. So both of them have a good hook from the get go from the starting gun. So I really don't, I'm not even, honestly, I'm not sure how to pick between these two. I'm kind of at a loss, but I think for my money, if I have to pick one of these that I'm going to listen to on the regular, I think it's going to be Man Eater. I'm going to go Man Eater and Man Eater picking up its first votes. Let's check in with John. So this is exactly the position I wanted to be in for this matchup at that is exactly where I wanted to be in, because I love both of these songs. Brian at the nail on the head, these two songs could be in the championship. No one would be surprised to see them. And I don't think I could have made the decision. And thankfully from where I'm sitting, I don't have to. So I'm going to be the chaos goblin and I'm going to vote for private eyes because I love that song. I also love Man Eater. I'm going to make Ben have to be the one that makes this decision. Oh boy. Oh boy. Well, second time in a row, we've got a tie going into our final panelist. Yeah. I mean, gosh, this is a tough one. I mean, I, you know, Ben's got is probably by far the most scientific approach brought to boozy. I'm usually just sort of like, eh, I like this one better. So I don't know how much I can sway him when we're another. All I will say is that between these two, well, I'll put it, I will put it this way. I would, I think of the left side of the bracket, Man Eater would probably be the one moving into the championship for me of the left side of the bracket. So that, but that, again, I'm just bringing personal bias into that. It's the song that I like the most. And honestly, this would be, these would be my top two on the left side of the bracket. So I don't really think you can go wrong, Ben, but let's find out what you have to say here. So in times like these, it's always good to rely on personal experience with these, with these songs and their premises, right? I distinctly remember when I first moved to Jacksonville, there was a girl I was absolutely in love with. She was not in love with me. I pursued her very hard. There was a long stretch where she wouldn't return my calls, you know, just, I couldn't get in touch with her. So I drove to her house and I left a handwritten note on her car because I just couldn't get it. I just had to get that message across and she cussed me out the next day. Like, you come into my house and that was, but so when I listen to private eyes, it takes me back to that moment where I'm like, look, I can't get enough of this girl. I got to do something, right? So I'm just going to leave this note on her car. And so when I listen to private eyes, I think about how much of a creep I was doing that. So I have a personal emotional connection to the song for that reason, right? So it sticks with me and then you think, I think about man eater and I think about, you know, I was like a real life Ross Geller. I was like a serial monogamous, right? Just I'm all in for this relationship and this is this girl is only one that I want for four months. The next day I'm launching all in on the next girl for four months, right? That was just a pattern and a cycle and like I have met many man eaters and I have been, I have been eating many a night and not in any good way that you can think of. So I have such a close personal connection to both of these songs and it's hard to vote against an icon, you know, an iconic song. So for me, you know, it's got to go to man eater and man eater picks up the second votes will be moving on into the final four. Well, Jen said, love to tell you that the choices are going to get easier, but as we've discussed, they are not, we're moving over to the other side of the brackets. Your choices are between the number one seed of kiss on my list and the number five seed. You make my dreams come true. John, you're up. So I said in the last one that kiss on my list and did in a minute were kind of similar songs to me and kind of on the same pedigree and though I did not vote for kiss on list on my list, I was not necessarily upset that it was the one that moved on. That's because I knew it was going up against you make my dreams and there was no fucking way. I was going to vote for kiss on my list over that iconic synth opening. I'm not going to say much because I fully expect to have to talk about it again. You make my dreams gets my vote. You make my dreams picking up its first vote as we head over to Ben. Oh God. I'm about to hurt my own feelings like this is bad like all because I said so many glowing things about both of these songs and I feel like I'm having to choose well I was going to say I feel like I have to choose from my favorite child but I think that anybody with multiple children knows that that is not a difficult choice. It's just not it's just not it's not a hard choice at all. Oh man. So looking at these I rank them almost identically. You know the overall feel I talked about how positive of a song you make my dreams come true like just how much it has an impact on your mood but kiss on my list is so that's so hall of notes like that's so it's just part of the DNA of that group you know it's so close man but one of these songs got a perfect score for me in terms of lyrics like just how lyrically strong it is. So for that reason I'm going to give a very slight edge to kiss on my list yet again. We have a tie going into our final panelist. Oh man and yet again I have to say something I don't I suppose I could just hand it off to Brian gosh I mean what do I say I almost I'm almost like you know should I keep something in the holster or the hip pocket for later but who even knows I mentioned in the previous matchup that I thought Man Eater would have been in my championship game from the left side of the bracket. You make my dreams come true is my champion from the right side of the bracket and I and would win overall is my favorite hall of notes song. You can crush my soul if you want I mean that's entirely up to you nothing against a kiss on my list but you make my dreams come true is as John said you hear that that intro and it's it's a five second mood elevator and then it doesn't let it doesn't let you down the entire rest of the song it's just that it's that kind of song. Choice is not mine choice is yours take us away. Okay this is really actually I I'm glad you didn't spend a whole lot of effort on trying to sway me because there wasn't a whole lot of swaying that was going to happen. One of these songs is good one of these songs is fucking great. I do love I really I these are both very good songs. You make my dreams come true I mean we we we all strive for that we want to have the you know that someone in your life that makes all your dreams come true but you're going up but then it's going up against your kiss is on my list of the best things in life and I was I like I said I suffered during supper tonight we were listening to this all come up and I said that specifically to my wife that yes your kiss is on my list of the best things in the world because she is absolutely utterly the best thing that ever happened to me I will never ever do better than her and I'm very aware of it. I think I just got got called a nerd from the other room excuse me she said barf I don't care what she says the probability of you getting ahead tonight just went way up I am so glad I weren't headphones all that said my vote absolutely goes to kiss now I'm kidding if you make my dreams come true that's that's that's another one I genuinely was not sure which way that was going to go but that was that was actually that was very sweet Brian you make my dreams does move into the final four another close match up here let's see how if the final match up is going to provide the same suspense as we head into our final four it's going to be between the three seed of out of touch and the two seed of I can't go for that parentheses no can do we're starting this one off with Ben all right so if you've never heard hauling oats and you just ask you know whatever your favorite music platform to play hauling oats this is probably the first song that comes up on that playlist I think that songs are popular for a reason I think that they're they become mega hits for a reason and that's because they're fucking great so again like listening back to these recently there's so much merit here for both of these songs there's a lot there but if I'm picking a karaoke song to sing between these two songs I'm going with I can't go for that be just the feel of the song overall it's just it's a bank it's an absolute banger it's instantly recognizable by people all around the world even though it's over 40 years old there's just no for me there's there's no going against that it's a juggernaut right so I'm voting for I can't go for that I can't go for that picks up its first vote there was there was a time when juggernaut was my it was my go-to word when I was describing songs like that and I think it is apropos here Brian you're up all right so I had to real quick look up the release dates for this one another song here if you hear the intro come on the radio for I can't go for that it is absolutely the the epitome of your early 80s pop music intro and for a split second you hear that no wait is this hollow notes or is this Michael Jackson's Billy Jean because for that split second you're like wait which because they were really close hmm I heard that intro I listened to it went that sounds a lot like and I looked Billy Jean is two years older so I'm like okay all right or excuse me Billy Jean is is excuse me I said that backwards this is 81 Billy Jean was 83 okay so both great songs but for that intro and for the just the absolutes it being the epitome of 80s rock early 80s rock pop music I can't go for that I excuse me I can't go for out of touch I can't go for that yeah the terminology in terms of the name of the song does get confusing but I can't go for that does pick up its second vote and for the first time tonight we have very little suspense as we head into the final four as I can't go for that has already secured its majority but John I want to know do you think we got this one right no actually I don't I love I can't go for that but out of touch just has so much more going for it musically there's just there's a lot a lot of repetition and I can't go for that and I don't necessarily hate repetition in a song but in that one it does tend to get a little old and I often find myself skipping to the next song before that song is actually done because I know I'm just going to hear the same thing for the next 60 to 90 seconds whereas out of touch has so much else going for it in terms of musical texture and lyrics and stuff so in what I hope to be the only time that I'm outbid for the rest of this record I think it should have been out of touch and out of touch does pull pull a couple of buckets there towards the end covers the spread but too little too late unfortunately as I can't go for that is moving on into the final four as are we no rest for the weary as they say we're going to jump right into this the number five seed of Sarah smile is taking on the number three seed of man eater on the left side of our bracket to determine who's going into the championship game Brian you're starting this one off don't make me start my shit these things this way it just it just falls out though someone has to start it in this case it's you yeah okay all right I'm gonna probably piss some but well either way I'm probably gonna piss somebody off all right Sarah smile is a phenomenal early 80s valid man eater oh god how the hell do you pick this you know what I'm gonna have to crack open a beer to decide because I've already finished off the first one so we're going next to two pitchers brewing their Nordic jam and I've got a Viking with sunglasses on the on the can here with his sword his sword is skewing a strawberry and a cherry and he's holding up a hand a horn of me it's it's epic it's it's cool that's awesome so yeah we'll see how this one plays how the hell am I gonna pick between Sarah smile and man eater I don't know but I appreciate the stall tactic that's that's very well done oh that's a sour I was not expecting a sour I mean I'm not a sour guy that's not bad I was just not I should have been braced for that well this this is gonna prove fun I'm going to vote for man eater I know where Ben's vote and so I'm pretty much gonna let John decide this sucker we'll see how it goes that is indeed a true statement that's a very good point Ben did already tip his hand a little bit man eater does pick up its first vote before we head over to John I'm gonna follow suit with Brian as I as I said I had a second beer ready because I had a feeling that was the way this is gonna go I saw I wish I wish the listeners could see this because I saw Ben pour in some more it's just it's it's the way this brackets going it's these bro like I ran out of Francia yep I had to switch to just a fine California winery called Woodbridge so just so you know so my wife picked this up for me last night because I needed wine for a party I watched summer slam at a friend's house last night and I needed wine for that party and she already knows when I send her when I asked her to go get wine for me she knows do not spend more than $10 right so and this is and when I say $10 I'm talking about for a big bottle I wanted a half liter yep to just as you all understand what what my mind what my wine palette consists of I drink the cheap shit because you know again I'm I'm like Steph Curry I'm a volume shooter just in case y'all didn't know that now y'all know um excellent so uh it is um it is one vote for man eater and I believe in terms of our our order of panelists we've got John coming up next Brian mayor made out of uh have to Ben's hand we'll we'll we'll see if he decides to do a to do a switch route here but uh first we're gonna check in with John so um this is not that that easy of a pick um I I did vote against man eater now I did say I really didn't care which one moved on and that was true if you had to put a gun to my head I probably would have picked privatized anyway um but you know also I'm the one that put Sarah smile through to the final four because I feel like it deserved to be here um it's the only real ballad so far at this final four and it's the only one to make the soul charts mm-hmm Ben I'm sorry the soul stops here man eater is getting my vote ah yep as as it so often does uh was not sure which way that one was going but man eater does pick up its second votes uh we'll be moving into the championship uh Ben this is your opportunity to tell our other two panelists just how wrong they are take us away you know when you look at this final four no one can really be mad if any of these songs win like one hundred percent all these are all amazing songs um but objectively we look at if you just played the soundtrack of Sarah smile versus man eater Sarah smiles a better soundtrack just the musical composition is more complex and richer in my opinion um the vocals the vocal arrangement and performance on that on Sarah smile is near perfect from a whole no perspective now again last 30 seconds Darryl starts doing this this crazy shit that reminds me a lot of what Will Ferro did instead brothers when he was singing um like it's just why are you doing this Darryl this is completely unnecessary and caddily the wide mixer when he was doing a list let's give him something to talk about and you start like scatting at the end like bro like ah you know the song doesn't need this Darryl you went too far went too far um lyrically just it's just it's just it pulls on heartstrings in a way that very few songs do for me um but it's like how can you be mad at man eater bro like yeah it was like man eater was one of the first like club bangers like when you think about club bangers in the 80's man eater was like everybody's on a dance floor you know doing the Carlton to man eater like that that it was a banger bro like how can I be mad you know yes Sarah smiles a better song but I can't be mad at man eater yep now yeah Ben hits hits the nail on the head uh Sarah smile does pick up a vote uh making this a close matchup but yeah any of these final four songs I think that I think the vast majority of music artists would would kill the right any one of these songs because they are such fantastic uh tracks uh but man eater is going to be moving into the championship and we're about to find out what it's going to be taking on um will it be the number five seed of you make my dreams come true or the number two seed I can't go for that Prince he's no can do john take us away oh god here's your bus all right well I can choose to talk about how both of these songs have been radio staples for I can say decades at this point I can choose to talk about how catchy each one of these are and how in their own way are danceable but I'm going to choose to be petty as shit for out of touch not making it to this point and I'm gonna vote for you make my dream because as Ben said you can't you're not supposed to pick your favorite kids but I'll one up him and I'll say fuck them kids yeah fuck them kids you make my dreams is getting my vote you make my dreams come true picks up it's first vote and and I just I want to tip my hat sir that the the spite vote is one of the the earliest and most noble of boozy bracketology tradition so no judgment at all in that arena Ben you're up next this yeah this is this is rough um because I love both of these songs they're so great and they're so different that's the thing that they're so different from each other but they're both equally great for what they are you know I I'm not gonna really belabor this too much because it's painful enough as it is I'm and for I also want to say that if you're thinking about sponsors for this show at some point you probably need to be sponsored by like like rehab facilities because this is making alcoholics like this is like this is rough like I know I've got to be on my fifth glass of wine by now I guess that this is you you are contributing alcoholism the show I don't appreciate it like damn like how much water am I I'm gonna go to be at 1 a.m. because I got to drink enough water to super up and then I might have to go piss before I go to bed like this is not you're you're setting a chain of events right now I don't appreciate um looking at my rankings I gave a perfect score to I can't go for that for musical composition um it's only one of two songs that I gave a perfect score to for musical composition so for that reason I'm gonna I'm gonna vote for I can't go for that I can't go for that pulls even with you make my dreams come true uh Ben and I just want to say I I have total sympathy for what you're saying I'm the guy that once went on I think a four minute or ish drunken rant on this podcast trying to choose between two Beatles songs and I couldn't even tell you which two songs that they were but I just think they remember I was like oh my gosh at a certain point clarity click back and I went oh my gosh dude you're still talking just make a choice I absolutely I absolutely remember that it was a and it was around it was around like the elite eight time of that particular practice so anyway I totally understand where you're coming from uh yeah uh people actually this is not this is not easy uh when you're when you're faced with this um Brian uh it is one to one uh I think I've I gosh I love I can't go for that I don't think you could make a wrong decision here I've made my opinion on uh you make my dreams come true I think pretty well known uh that I it's it's my personal favorite hollow notes song I didn't go through any sort of scientific method it's just like if I'm gonna put a haul if you're gonna say hey put on a hollow notes on that's the one I'm gonna put on that's all I got uh the decision is yours take us away all right Ben there have been boozy bracketology episodes that I've been on where we decided we we can't we crowd a champion and the next morning I had to text one of the other participants and say who the fuck did we just put vote in because I don't remember legitimately I've had to ask who won because I I'm um I've I've only been stupid hung over at work the next day one time thankfully sorry James um I don't think you listen to this one but just in case sorry um so these are two of hollow notes best and really the entire elite date any of these could have made the championship set probably rich rich girl probably didn't deserve to be here so it didn't make it which is fine any of the other seven could have easily made it into this uh championship and nobody'd be unhappy with that between these two um I definitely have a favorite so like I'm glad you didn't spend a whole lot of effort on trying to sway me because it wouldn't have done anything um the championship tonight is going to be between manager and you make my dreams come true and you make my dreams come true picks up its second vote in that matchup and is heading into the championship um and as I mentioned this this would have been like if I filled out a bracket I kind of did in my head I never I didn't actually sit there writing down but just at a glance ahead of time I was like yeah that would this is probably reflective of my personal championship so I think we've got a great championship matchup here and uh this is a very difficult decision up ahead your championship game is going to be between the three seed of man eater and the five seed of you make my dreams come true and the first choice is coming down to Ben you're starting this one wrong man um yeah so I'm looking at my list and like what my championship would have looked like yeah I'm curious so my final four were Sarah smile man eater kiss on my list I can't go over that those are my final four and I had in the championship um I don't even think I even picked between kiss on my list I can go over that because I had Sarah smile going all the way because right I'm gonna love that song yep um these songs have identical ratings on my list or music vocals lyrics and overall feel this is painful wow okay I need to take a sip this is this is yep um so you make my dreams is one of those songs it's been used multiple times in trailers for rom-coms that's that's that's the type of song that it is true um it is it is this aspirational like just there's an ideology around a feeling of being in love and like really just having a person in your life that you really love and you care about it and that you have an ideal relationship and like you just like it's hard to vote against that it's hard to vote against just that vibe of that song how upbeat it is and then you think about man eater and it's like man I know what they going through like I've been so like just words I can't say on his podcast like I've just been so just ripped apart this heart ripped the shreds and just just taken advantage of him and nipulated like oh like it just you hear this song and it's just like yeah watch out boy she will cheer you up watch out you know beware oh um oh oh oh my god um I'm gonna go with you make my dreams I'm gonna go with you make my dreams wow and you make my dreams picks up its first votes next up we got Brian oh shit okay I these are quite probably my two favorite hollow notes tunes get right down to it I mean yeah the the entire elite eight is on my playlist now because all of them are great songs but if I had to had to pick my favorites it very well could be these two along with privatized it had to go against me meaning earlier but that's that's ancient history um so I I have okay this this is hard because I could do the chaos goblin and just put it to John or I could vote in my favorite hall of notes tune because you get right down to it I think if I had between these two I they're both great I love them both but there are songs in my life that I can listen to and a song can immediately improve my spirits just from that just from hearing that song I get into a better if I'm and I just pissed off hearing this song can start to pull me out of that and start to turn me around and get the better mood and one of the songs that can do that is you make my dreams come true and I think I'm gonna have to apologize to John because I'm gonna go ahead and vote you make my dreams come true alright and Brian Nash after after all of the craziness of this uh elite eight through final four uh Brian does uh pull out the hammer and uh strike that nail into the coffin take the take things out of John's hands a little bit you make my dreams come true is the winner of our hall of notes bracket but that does not mean we are not going to give John ample time to wax poetic on whether or not he thinks we made the correct decision uh in truth Brian I'm actually grateful um because now I don't have to decide um because it was going to be a very tough call um and I'm not sure exactly how I would have voted I really not um but since it has been taken out of my hands um I'm going to make sure that this was not a sweep and give a very deserving vote uh for man eater and it will not be a sweep uh man eater does pick up a vote there at the end uh it's funny I've been I've been sitting here thinking about this uh as much as I said I think we got this on right uh you make my dreams come true is my favorite hall of notes song but I'm almost positive unless there's something else happened that I didn't know about that man eater is actually the first hall of notes song that my daughters heard because at some point and I wish I could remember the context but I know at some point I was doing the oh here she comes hook for my daughters for for something completely unrelated I I tended you know the weird alphanomy coming out I tend to do a lot of parodies parody uh uh lyrics for them and I take I take songs and I take them in other directions and I did that and they went what is that and I said oh you need to hear this and I play I remember playing man eater for them so uh as a great championship game uh I really don't think we could have gone wrong I again I think we got this right but I really don't think those are wrong decision uh honestly the the first episode was a lot of okay whittling it down to the to the true elite eight and then the elite eight was was the quintessential hall of notes uh it really really says a lot about the band and um just they when they when they could bring it they really they really did bring it uh so I hope I hope everybody has enjoyed uh the journey to get here I certainly did largely because I didn't have to make any choices I just got to sit back and drink and watch everybody else labor uh which generally speaking I I'm in the panelists seat a lot on bougie so uh it's always nice to get to take a step back and just sit in the host chair for a minute do you guys have fun oh always oh hell yes always great fantastic fantastic all right excellent excellent well obviously uh uh two of y'all are uh multiple time panelists Ben we would absolutely love to have you back on uh you brought some some great opinions some really really I love your your scientific process of of approaching it some really interesting takes and everything like that I've had a fantastic time hosting this brackets uh hopefully our listeners y'all out there have had a fantastic time listening to it uh if you want to connect to us on the socials uh we are active on our discord Welcome back to Boozy Bracketology and the conclusion of our best Hall and Oates bracket.
