On March 27, 2020 the SHow-Me Institute hosted a telephone town hall on the coronavirus pandemic with guest speakers Colonel Randall Larsen and Senator Jim Talent.

Speakers:

Colonel Randall Larsen, USAF (ret) serves as the National Security Advisor at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, a position he has held since 2005. After a distinguished career of service in the USAF, Colonel Larsen became a leader in homeland security and in particular in the area of defense from a bio attack. In that capacity he has become the go-to expert on pandemic resilience for think tanks, universities, the press, and political leaders of both Parties. He was the CEO of the Bipartisan WMD Terrorism Research Center which produced the Bio-Response Report Card, the first and only stem to stern study of America’s pandemic resilience. It was and remains the gold standard for epidemiologists and public health authorities. He is the author of a number of books and frequent guest on cable news.

Senator Jim Talent brings over 30 years of government and political experience including service in both chambers of Congress. He is a nationally-recognized leader on military affairs whose counsel is frequently sought by administrations and members of the House and Senate on both sides of the political aisle. Senator Talent has worked for decades on readiness issues including military preparedness, combating bio-weapons and responding to a large-scale pandemic event. From 2007 to 2012, he co-chaired, with former senator Bob Graham of Florida, two congressional commissions on the danger of bio-weapons and pandemic events that included an examination of the resilience of the American health-care system in response to a pandemic event. Their reports, recommendations, and report cards are receiving new attention in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
