And now your hosts, Carl Brower, Lauren Fix, and Javier Mota. Welcome to the Total Car Score podcast. I'm Lauren Fix and I have a special guest with me today, Paul Fix, a third. Hello. Hey, thank you for having me. We are out here at... In London. In London. Visiting Goodwood. The Festival of Speed. Festival of Speed. And Speed it is. You know, it's funny. We've been to Revival. Yes. And I went with my husband, Paul Fix, the second. But this time we had an opportunity to go to Festival of Speed. And now if you've never seen it before, maybe you've seen like cars driving between hay bales, it is so much more than that. And the expectations, if you walk on the property, will blow you away. So I wanted to give you our story and tell you about some unique things we saw and did and if you're really interested, you can go right to Goodwood's YouTube channel. They have everything on coverage, hours and hours of endless footage. So we started off here by landing at London Heathrow Airport and Hyundai Corporation was generous enough to lend us a Tucson, which was an interesting experience for driving on the right side of the road. And we learned they drive in miles per hour and miles, which is a little something different. And learning to drive on the right side of the road is a bit challenging. Especially with the narrow roads out here. And Goodwood is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. We were driving through the countryside. About an hour and a half of them. Yeah, through tiny little towns. And we finally arrive and the place is covered in supercars and classic cars. And it's amazing. Tense everywhere. Every single manufacturer has showed up. Pretty well, I would say, Ford was there. GM was not this year, although they have in the past. We saw Honda. We saw Toyota, no Nissan this year. We saw Jaguar, Land Rover, Bentley. Of course, Lamborghini, Ferrari. You had Rimmick. You had Kona's Seg. Every supercar brand was present. Yeah, it was amazing. And they were all vying to see who could do the fastest run on this property that is called Goodwood. It's acres and acres. And there's a racetrack on it. And of course, in this case, they do a hill climb. And they close off a public road and they start at the Goodwood Hotel. They run past the famous Goodwood house. And I believe the whole property is owned by the Duke of-- I don't remember. It's a Duke. It's a Duke. And they showed up and they really enjoy the festivities and they go over here. A lot of celebrities, too. There was Gordon Ramsay beyond non-car celebrities, but car celebrities. Lots. Lots. Max for Stop and Checo was there. We had David Coltard. Yep. Yeah, we had a lot of drivers. On Pablo Montoya. Yes, we had Alex Albon was there. Logan Sargent was there from Williams. Jackie X was there, famous historic driver. With Genesis. He was driving a Genesis vehicle, which was pretty cool. Genesis had their performance car there, by the way. Really awesome. We saw it at the New York Auto Show two years ago. And they brought it again to this year's New York Auto Show to give us a bigger sneak peak. But now we are 100% sure that Genesis, which is the luxury line for Hyundai, is going to be producing a performance line called Magma. And we got a ride in the Magma vehicle that was one of the vehicles. We also got a ride in the G70 taxi car, which is used. It's a-- It's for the Nurburgring. For the Nurburgring. But they actually give people rides. So if you're in Germany and you go to the Nurburgring, there was a Genesis there who will give you a ride around the track. And it's a G70. Very mildly modified from what you would get at the dealer if you want to buy one. Because they are great cars. And we had a great opportunity to talk to the engineer and the test driver. And they were telling us that this is the thing that they're using to design their new G70 Magma, their high performance car, which was also on display. The concept was there. And the G-- and the GV60 Magma was racing. Yes, it was. That was awesome. Yes. Super fast. And these cars look fantastic. They look like real sports cars with bucket seats and big wings. And the orange, which is their-- That's their mark color. Color to show that that's their performance line. And the GV60 Magma concept got a pretty darn good time too. Third fastest. I think it ended up in-- Third fastest. Third fastest, which is fantastic. Which is darn good. An electric crossover. Right. And it-- Four doors. And we got to talk with the driver of that as well. Nice get down. And it was very challenging to drive, but a lot of fun. And that's kind of what we would talk a lot a lot when it comes to electric vehicles, is that they need to be fun. They need some sort of identity. So it looks like this is one of the contenders that might actually be exciting and might dispel good things for EVs going forward. Right now, there's going to be a GV80 Coupe coming out very soon. That was also on display. But there's going to be a GV80 Coupe Magma, which will be gasoline, it'll be a hybrid. So that's something that they're starting to look at, is what vehicles make sense to go hybrid, which ones make sense to go electric. And they're going to have the full lineup. They had a beautiful facility there. We saw BYD, which is a Chinese brand. Lots of Chinese performance cars. Things that we don't get in America just yet. But there's-- We may never see them. Either we're never going to see them. Or if something shifts in what's allowed into the country with tariffs and things like that, we could see a couple of these. And there were quite a lot of different Chinese brands. There were so many cool ones. Some really really interesting ones. The Chingar was like spelled C-Z-I-N-D-R. That one's out of LA. Right inside of LA. But there are a lot of these-- Camiro, it was a bunch of-- Yeah, there was a lot of really great cars there. Stuff you've never heard of. Absolutely. And everybody, almost everybody, had a supercar. Yes, it seemed-- well, because they were there competing to see who had the fastest, best vehicle. And not only that, but sometimes some of these supercars had race car variants. And all of them were on the proving themselves at the Festival of Speed, including Mustang. Right, the GTD. GTD. So that went on Thursday, which is the day we arrived. It did its first run ever on the track. Looks a little different from the vehicle that we've seen that we've covered before. Bigger vents in the arches, a little wicker on the back of the wing. But a lot of different arrow pieces put on it. So they decided not to race it. They're going to race it next year. Not officially on the timing, but they did run it a couple of times. And if you go to the Goodwood site or if you don't just look online-- Look at GTD. Yeah, you'll see a lot of videos. Goodwood Festival of Speed, yeah. Spinning up the tires, tons of smoke, and it ripping down the racetrack. It was pretty impressive. And they're taking it to the Nurburgring, which, again, is the famous track in Germany. I've been on it. It's really an impressive track. And it's almost impossible to memorize. Difficult to drive, even just to keep it on the road and then try to memorize the whole thing. It's miles and miles long. But as far as the event itself, beyond that, there was a lot of celebrations. One of them was MG. Yes, 100 years. 100 years famous British brand, tons of fireworks. Showcase in the vehicle. Now, if you've seen Festival of Speed, they call it FOS, there is a big arch, like a circle right in front of the-- Right in front of the Goodwood house, right? And it looks like a ferris wheel. It's this big art piece. And they put a-- A different part of the area. On the one side, and they put the brand new electric MG. There's another Chinese brand that we might not see in America. Right, SAIC on the other side. And it was kind of how you were able to navigate. It was so large, you could see it across the field. Oh, absolutely. And that was kind of a neat thing, because they did a whole celebration with drummers and fireworks. But beyond that, if you're an F1 fan, Adrian Nui was there. And he showcased his newest street car, and even though he's leaving Red Bull, he had to show us this car. Yeah, so we were very, very lucky to be standing exactly in the right spot during a spout of rain. Yeah. And we were waiting in all this. Underneath the tent. And Adrian Nui, chief design officer for Red Bull, comes out and does an interview with Goodwood themselves. Right, he's also the World Car person of the year from last year. Yes, he was. So that was pretty impressive. He's leaving Red Bull. Imagine earning a degree that prepares you with real skills for the real world. Coppella University's programs teach skills relevant to your career so you can apply what you learn right away. Learn how Coppella can make a difference in your life at coppella.edu. And he's going to another brand. Yes, but before he did, he announced this RB17 car. It's supposed to be-- he just helped design a car for Aston Martin when Red Bull was working with Aston Martin to make a supercar that was not road legal called the Valkyrie. And that thing is an absolute track weapon. Oh, yeah. And so then he comes out with this and he says, whatever that the previous car was, this is 100 times better. That's how unleashed his design knowledge was. They're only making a few of them. What's the price on that? I heard 5.5 million. We should get matching ones. Oh, yes, of course. But you're right. So obviously, they're going to be sold to super high players. But beyond that, we had a chance to watch the interview for that. But Red Bull was also being honored. And so they brought back some of their drivers. Of course, Ricardo is there. In addition to that-- It was 20-year celebration. 20 years. 20 years, which it feels like Red Bull's been around for a lot longer, especially because of how prevalent they are in motorsports. They're in every single form of motorsports. Plus, they're doing rock climbing and parkour and the silly races and all sorts of stuff. They've been drifting. Yeah, they're so entrenched in motorsports. And it's only been 20 years. They've made a massive impact. And they brought a huge collection of their Formula One vehicles. And a drift car in off-road cars. And Mark Webber-- because they were Jaguar. And then they became Red Bull. So Mark Webber, who I saw race when it was a Jaguar at Melbourne. But he was there. David Kultar was there. Checo, Max for stopping. Ricardo? Ricardo, of course-- And of course, Christian Horner and Adrian Newey. Right, Christian Horner's been there since the beginning. He's basically the general manager or the president of Red Bull racing. But lots of Red Bull products as well. Yeah, other exciting things. Every manufacturer had a booth and there was, of course, great food. We loved our duck. Yes. I think there was a little Stan Head duck. It was great. My favorite. But in between all of that is the track. So the track comes down the middle. It's a public road. And then on either side, you have all of your booths. And tons of hail bays on each side. Yeah, tons and tons. And there were parking lots for people to come in and show their cars. And there was a Concord de la Gonce to show off some very rare, very special vehicles. And the whole time you're walking around and looking at the spectacle, you're hearing cars ripping up the road and making all sorts of noise. From literally streetcars, electric streetcars, all the way to supercars, hypercars, and F1 cars. Yes. And then, of course, we got to see some great drivers like-- Scott's feet was there. Yes. He just got second place. No, it was Sebastian Buemi, who got first place. Oh, really? They're in the Ford Supervan. They got him backwards. Well, because we thought that he had clinched the win. It was such a fantastic run in Subaru's midnight car, which was a test car that looked like a rally vehicle with this huge wing and these wide fenders. That Ford van was freaking awesome. It was. It was all electric. A lot of wrecks, though, in the speed time trials. And there were a couple. It's a very tight road. If you've never seen a hill climb before-- Travis Pastrado. Fabulous driver. Yes. Fabulous driver. He put it right into the [INAUDIBLE] Oh, I know. But there was a couple amazing cars that had minor damage and some that had some pretty serious damage. And then, of course, if you haven't seen it, it's all over the internet. There was a lotus that had 2,000 horsepower-- Electric. Electric with a passenger in the car and took off off the start line. And it literally hit the wall, spun around, and hit the wall again. It's all over the internet. It must have made it 50 feet. Maybe. What an embarrassment. Whoever the driver was. No one even talked about it. No one knew who the driver was like, shush. But we did get everybody talking about lotus. And they were there with a huge set up with all sorts of their new special cars, plus-- And older cars. Plus, they were over in the supercar paddock. And they were test bedding. They're not just the one that crashed, but they were test bedding other cars as well. There was a lot of-- You can see, I think, it is, right? There was quite a few. And they're all starting to sound very similar. But they brought their electric SUV as well. And there's a lot of these not production cars that were racing up the hill. They're not race cars. They're not going to be production cars. They're just an opportunity for these brands to show off what they have and get people excited. And it worked. The crowds were massive. Everybody was watching. Everybody was watching with these little radios in our ear that they gave us. They gave them to you when you buy a program. And we could actually listen to all of the cars going up and hearing about what they are and why they're there. And it is like candy for a motor sports enthusiast. Oh, it's an absolute must do bucket list. You don't have to do it high-end. There are people that are camping. There are people that literally bring their own food. And they come from everywhere, from all over the world. And if you get an opportunity, you find a budget ticket to go to London, take a car service, a bus, something to take you out that way. And you will be in heaven, especially if you are car enthusiast. So if you want to do it high-end, you can always do that. You can get a Rolls Royce and all that stuff. But to really take it to enjoy the sport for what it is, this is really about speed of all different types. There's motorcycles there as well. There's lots of motorcycles, drift cars. Some guys were just doing drifts. Not even racing up the hill. They were just doing drifts. So it took us three days to see the whole event. As we would start early in the morning, we would do the whole inside paddock, then we'd do the outside pack, then we'd do the red bull, then the supercars. So we didn't finish. Even as though it was raining, we continued. We didn't finish hitting the complete and total everything, including the shopping, all the booths, everything, until Sunday night. It took us the whole time. So there's that much to see. And we were moving. We weren't crawling around and wasting time. So we saw the 1/2 9/11, too, by the way. 1/2 11, yeah. That's very interesting. That's built by a couple of guys out of LA. And they started with a 1970s Porsche. And they hacked it up. They cut it in half. They shoved a V8 in it. And they slammed it down to the ground in this big wide body work. And when you're hiking-- Maybe it's going to turn into something that we can buy somewhere down the road that won't look anything like this crazy car. But it does sound like something very interesting will be coming that we can all put on our walls and rule over. Right. So these are things that are coming in the future. You can go to Goodwood Festival of Speed. Next year, it'll be July 10th through the 13th of 2025. But in the meantime, you can go to Carco reports. You can see our video. We've got a whole bunch of stuff, including our ride on how to-- Going to the top of the hill with a famous racer. With the track taxi. Yeah, that was cool. The track taxi was awesome. Yeah, we had a rally driver that was in the driver's seat. And we're holding on for our dear lives. It was great. It was excellent. So you can check that out at Carco reports. You'll find Paul and I there. Also, we'll be doing a podcast for car smarts. You can find Javier Modus out. I think he's on the West Coast in California doing a test drive, as well as Carl. It's Javier Moda, who's also our host and Carl with a K Brower. You can find Paul at PaulFix3 on social media. I'm Lauren Fix. You can find me on social media.
