All right, John Sharp joins me around 12 35 I dare leash from laying the app a little after one o'clock today a lot to talk about with them But as we get started, I was Could it be a way one more thing on the text line? I will say this I'm gonna go back to I rarely do this But a text that came in during Jeff's show Okay, I'm gonna revisit an earlier text from about 1146 this morning Bruce said keep hearing people talk about the price of food Yet, no one has died of starvation. Why not trying to grow some of your own food stupid people? So Bruce, you know why we can't grow our own food and Bruce It's a joke because Bruce I garden and I hunt and fish and I have a big freezer. I'm one of those people But if the leaf-footed stink bugs and my man Bill Finch who by the way nappy winner Bill Finch and I've got it you can't catch them all the leaf-footed stink bugs this year Bruce I don't know if you garden at least in my place have been Bizarre even with catching them and squashing them You know using you can use a little vacuum cleaner to vacuum them up. I've used pieces of like sticky Like a like a mouse trap a sticky mouse trap to get them all you could do all that They are ruining the garden this time of year Bruce Leaf-footed stink bugs are a scourge this year Bill Finch if you're listening I need your help man. All right, so And then we'll get back to the other text a little bit. I just wanted to answer that one So yes, many of us grow our own food, but this year I've been killing my tomatoes. Now okra is good. They're trying to get on the okra. They okra has been producing. All right Mentioned it to Jeff said it on yesterday's show the two on to 12 slope As I think I've retweeted this last night Secret secure secret service director Cheetah showed up at the RNC I thought that was of interest and was pursued by Republicans out there asking for answers Cheetah has given an interview here about what happened there in Pennsylvania And some of the answers in an interview with ABC Cheetah says this so here's a little bit here the excuse the director Kimberly Cheetah saying how did how did that roof top remain open for this dirt bag? To climb on top and had that clear sightline 130 140 yard shot Which by the way, I appreciate it and I talked with friends of mine that Defended this country for a living. We'll put it that way about you know different tactical things that went wrong at the They're at the township in Pennsylvania the assassination attempt on Donald Trump But TV ends up getting like they're like, okay Well, we got such and such sniper to talk about the shot. Listen a 130 yard shot with a scoped rifle red dot or a regular medical scope This is not something from a movie. This is a shot that is made I don't know y'all go listen on a afternoon in November December January or early February in Alabama and Listen to the gunshots go off. There's a lot of those shots that are 130 yards that are Perfect shots by people that did not train with special forces. It's it's a with a scope rifle. It is It's a simple shot So all right, so back so there's this interview on ABC And Kimberly Cheetel was talking about how that roof was left open. Here's some of that audio here Let's go to cut one said that roof have been secure period that building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point And so, you know, there's a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn't want to put somebody up on a sloped roof And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building from inside I'll also add this to the to the list of things that are kind of normal like 130 yards shots with centerfire rifles With some exceptions because you've seen the gravel ones and the there's some, you know adobe style stuff but everywhere else every roof has sloped if it's There's different pitches, of course, and it looks like the pitch on this roof or dirt bag climbed up was two on 12 y'all This is The roof the roofs I've walked on in the city of Mobile Maybe probably not the best decision, but the roof's I've walked on and home I own before I guess Maybe that yeah before last I had a pitch that the outside y'all know this if you've been on your roof making sure you get all the you know Gutter's cleaned out and clean stuff off the roof enough of a pitch that your Down roof ankle Feels extreme pressure, right because it's it's that much of a pitch. That's not two on 12 This is not any crazy amount of pitch This is a low pitched roof and now that I've seen the pictures in the video I can go you know like that's my secondary source after I heard the two on 12 and I saw the pictures. I said okay, so once again The secret service director instead she'd said the right things about the buck stops with me. Okay. I appreciate that But then to say well the buck stops with me, but we didn't have anybody on that roof because it because of the pitch You're Senator John Barasso who was in this briefing that went on I guess Monday evening he had this to say the shooter has been identified an Hour before the shooting occurred as a suspicious person. They lost sight of him He had a rangefinder. He had a backpack the kind of things that would be suspicious to anyone right now basic basic ideas here in in out of How to I don't know maybe identify shooter that has a rangefinder or come back I want to talk more about this also you know that I've been on this track about the Iranian assassin FBI months ago said hey, by the way y'all be on the lookout for an Iranian assassin who comes from the the irg Right, so this is well-trained Iranian military assassin that is inside the country I was focused on it a lot because I'd asked this quiz we'd have a little quiz here I'd say well Iranian assassin known Iranian assassin. Do you think? They cleared customs at Atlanta's Hertz Field or LaGuardia Maybe at LAX wait where they no, how did they get into our country? Do you think possibly an Iranian assassin walked across the border? with the thousands of other people that are Not supposed to be here walking across the border. Yes, of course So I was focused on the story from that angle for a while But the Iranian assassin in the country as the FBI told us they were in the in the country to take out Trump Bolton, I think Pompeo anybody that had anything to do with the Soleimani killing So we're aware. There's an Iranian assassin in the country trying to take people So that should put you on I think An accelerated security model, right something like that, but no It was well, we can't put people there because there's a slow proof and ends up being some Local yoke will dart bag that takes a shot. Don't you have the Iranian assassin's going? It was that easy. I All this training and you could just break coming right back. We'll get to Some more of this story and your text and calls it 343 0106. This is midday mobile This is midday mobile with Sean Sullivan on FM talk 106 five Right now 12 21 FM talk what it was six five and midday mobile on this Friday Eve Kick off to the Alabama deep-sea fishing rodeo tomorrow morning with the cannon shot actually kick off tonight I with large contest starts at seven can't wait to see y'all down there right to the text slide mailman says Some of these congressmen screaming for the CIA head to be taken down for quit to be fired or it's all well and good, but they But have they given talk to who will replace her? Okay, this is voice to text. I'm trying to get through this All right, you probably mean the secret service director cheetah The only thing I don't like about the Republican Party. They're so quick to change stuff get rid of stuff remove people But they never really have a plan to fill in or replace a personnel or the people they want removed So mailman you and I are on the same page to some degree because yesterday I said when we talked about this you're gonna You know even I think it was Monday congressman Carl said they talked about defunding The secret service right using because that's the method that the house has they hold the purse strings That's where their leverage comes from in funding. I Get it as a tactic. I don't want it to go through because what we don't want is less Then we saw on Saturday, right don't want less secret service protection So it It behooves with the people to keep it in place, but figure out what happened and then yeah People need to be replaced have somebody ready to go in and You somebody there's got to be somebody in line to mailman that behind cheetah that could do the job, right? Somebody who has you know Vice president or something that effect, but does somebody could step into that role? No, I don't want to bring somebody fresh in and say hey right here in an election season That's already proven that there's assassins out there. Let's uh, let's put somebody new to learn on the job No, but I bet you there's somebody there at secret service That goes I could do this. I mean most companies have someone that if the head is removed the next person can next man up right or woman up or Biden administration next day up All right, uh, let's see here. Thank you christin orange beach send me pictures of boats They're gonna be fishing in the rodeo. That's good I'll be fishing some myself Uh, let's see Brandon said did I hear you say we can bring our own beer again. Finally that is true That's the the jc's decided that I'm just carrying Brandon. I'm just carrying what they said Uh, you can bring your own coolers there to the rodeo site so you can wheel them in the wheelie coolers or We'll have I think our the uh, shoulder cooler thing tonight. So yeah, you can bring your own coolers to the rodeo site It'll make the liars contest even more fun if people got coolers full of comedy with them, um Unnamed texture said I thought Biden got vaccinated. Oh, that was our we'll talk about the covid thing. Yeah, remember I said They could have used the excuse they they let him go to the debate They knew he was gonna they had to know going in the debate late last month The Biden was not gonna be able to it My suggestion was if I was part of the group I would have said well He's got covid or something right to to just delay the or not have the debate Better than have him go on stage if you're a democrat and look like a fool They may be playing that card now with covid. Well, but maybe he does we'll see if this is I think this is part of a Bigger plant and not that he doesn't have covid. Maybe he does But if they wanted to keep him in position he could have covid and they would never tell you right um And uh named texture went on say I wonder what oh sure regulations are Or on a stopped roof or a sloped roof and safety. Yeah, I don't know. Oh, she kept him off there Uh, let's see here let's see Uh jerry in fort borgen Said john, please remember as the captain t-bone Thompson liars contest mike was one of a kind He was indeed I was friends with mike Thompson and jerry mike could tell a story like nobody ever like a joke story that would last 30 minutes that would Keep you in stitches and or attention for 30 minutes. He was a a Great man and we do miss him and usually see his his widow and son down at the event so yes, the captain t-bone liars contest tonight at seven and uh And then jerry says john the next in line for the secret service is just as bad as the one in charge Give me a name. I don't know that. Do you know who that is Our name texture said shawn stop it say it's easy. It's just a seven iron golf shot what 130 yards The seven iron i'm pretty good with the seven iron when I started playing golf dad wouldn't I was allowed to use a seven iron and a putter That's what I started with And I didn't like it. I wanted to play with all the clubs that he had but it quickly made me into pretty decent golfer Um This texture says handicap ramps or whatever 12. Okay. There we go Uh This texture says like you I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt But when she made the pitch roof comment that she it did it she needs to go immediately You know once again If when she said the buck stopped with her with cheetah when kimberly cheetah said the buck stop with her is okay That's that's responsibility. And then I expected her to say and we're gonna shake this thing down I'm going through every part of this. We're going to figure out how everything happened here But then she throws in the well, you know the roof Is this the slope? Come on All right, this uh texture here next one said y'all give yourself some handles or names or nicknames on here Uh said I grew up in jackson alabama. What's up court county said i'm 54 All my friends including myself grew up hunting and fishing when we were in fifth grade. We could have made that shot. Yes It is a like I said the guys i've talked to about the tactical side of it or guys that routinely can make thousand yard shots But to have those people on tv going okay, how do they make it's 130 yard shot with the scoped rifle? I mean Come on Doesn't have meta giving me pictures of whole kogan, which is not bad on a thursday here Um brad says what if it would have been a professional hit That would be had been terrible. So absolutely brad. That's what i'm talking about That's why i've come back to the your the Iranian assassin part of it If there was somebody who was trained Trump would have been killed I mean that's So I'm talking about it's that big of a failure At the same time we have this Iranian assassin in the country And also who's to who's to blame here The said we're not only who's the butler Pennsylvania township they have townships there Head had had this to say about who was in charge It was so frustrated and quite frankly hit by the limit again last night when I saw again secret service Says it was the responsibility of the local police department that's absolutely not correct There you go. So uh You know Cheetah, I mean, I think she has to go. Yes. I think she has to go But at the same time I like the mailman said earlier you don't just you don't just take the head out Of the organization not have somebody who is qualified to step in you got it. You can't say well We're so mad at them. We're just not going to have a functioning secret service. No, uh You you make some changes, but you make sure it's still functional Yeah, uh, you know taniel saying standing on that roof would be hard to tell it's not flat Uh mom says another strange thing about the slope comment is the picture of the counter sniper team picture To make stories has a pitch that looks steeper than two on 12. I saw that too Did you see the difference between the front and back on the uh on the on the gun tripod? Right the we'd change in the elevation from the front to the the front two legs to the back. Yeah, it was a It had a pitch um, let's see Okay. This don will tell you what i'm gonna get that when we come back. Um, we will uh we'll get to that one And yes, Brandon said he is icing down his fm talk 105 bucket for tonight's event Brandon uh folks are going to get a chance to Pick up some of those fm talk 105 buckets During tomorrow's show when i'm at the rodeo, so if you're gonna be down there make sure to give me uh Way to i go to commercial break and give me a knock on the van there and uh, we'll we'll try to hook you up with one of the Super duper fm talk 106 five buckets. They got the rope handles The extra throwing handle on the bottom fm talk 105 logo. I think you're gonna love them Got pictures of them up online get a chance to win some of those tomorrow. All right, uh, we'll go to the news and come right back john sharp joins us This is mid-day mobile with shawn selvan on fm talk 106 Five Like 1235 fm talk 105 five and some mid-day mobile thursday style what glad you're along here And uh, yeah large contest people tested good. We'll see you down there seven o'clock tonight They actually get started and uh signed up. They're taking 10 this year. They they're capping it So the first 10 to get signed up down there for the liars contest You'll be in the rest of y'all will just be crying And there are everybody else will just be watching so we'll see you down there tonight All right without further ado, uh, my man john sharp from a ill.com joining us lance to talk about with john. Hey, how are you? john i'm good. How are you doing? i'm good so Have you made it through the summer of summer activities with your child with no school Well, yes john's good dad y'all he goes to everything Well, we got we got we got a nice old vacation coming up so Yeah, uh, summer's not quite over for us. And so we're we're excited about that. But yeah, it's been a a great summer a lot of activities Um, she's been involved in a wonderful Uh church campus this week. So that's been that's been great. But yeah, summer's, uh, it's been a lot It's coming towards an end, you know, that's uh, yeah, they go back to school. Yeah, they go back to school like I remember like, yeah, I mean used to be back in the olden days It used to be like right before labor day, but it's they're back in school like the first or second week of august Yeah, you're correct, you know, and in my daughter's birthdays around the same time they go back to school So it's always been kind of interesting time of the year for our family, but uh, uh, yeah, it's uh, it's uh, it's it's it's exciting A lot of parents will be like, yes Back to school. So uh, we're kind of there too, but uh, there's a lot of great programs in this area Uh, for for kids camps and whatnot, especially, you know, we're at in ballroom county and We just you know, lots a lot of things you can take advantage of these days that you know, born around when we were kids I mean, some of them a lot of it was but not like it is today and so We've had a good summer. Yeah, my my son starts a real cool camp next week And it's real cool for dad too because he goes in at nine and he's there till four in the afternoon So it's a it's a help for self-force. Well, uh, a lot of stories to talk about over at al.com From you this one Was interesting Because I didn't realize one of these where I go really and it's a hip-on here overdue for law enforcement alabama agency seeks mandatory mental health sessions For police now we've i've talked about it with Folks in law enforcement over the years about that, you know, what they're doing for their people And you know, you think about What officers what people in law enforcement see Every day out there and what that could do uh to your psyche and I guess I thought it was just All departments had this but it's not true, right? It's it's not it's not every department that has some kind of mental health care Well, you're correct and I you know, it's one of these stories where I learned a lot too Working on it. I found out about you it's one of those things where you look at a city council agenda And you're like well, what's this all about and I started doing a little bit more searching and wound up and spanish forward It was it was a change of police policy and uh, uh, so I got to ask him what that was all about and she's job barber indicated Well, you know, we're we're going to do in these mandatory uh, uh police mental health wellness Sessions and I thought well, that's interesting. You know, I go is that unusual and yeah. Yeah, you know, we got the talking He said yeah, it's something that you know in this area. No, no other agencies really doing and then he goes I think this is a very important thing for uh, my officers to do and and uh, you know, he's he's taking the lead he's going to do the first session And basically what it is. It's been your job's not tied to this You know, there's a lot of a lot of careful wording that you got to do When you're describing, um, a mental health, uh, evaluate your mental health Wellness is what it's called not an evaluation, but a mental health wellness A mental health check and also learn that as well, but they want to make it look like you know, it's not tied directly to To a police officer's job because that would keep I mean that would that would lead to officer not to do it Right. I mean if they were that this is going on their record or some cut, you know, something like that Yeah, and there'd be backlash and yes, the chief would not have buy-in essentially This is part of a wellness program. It's calling like physical fitness. Uh, a lot of companies have these and uh, so, but this is what what's offered by, um, you know, for police Um, and it's interesting that they were very careful very selective about, you know, the type of mental health professional. That would be the, um Professional that it'll be meeting with a therapist or counselor at whatever you would like to call that individual that it'll be meeting with these officers And uh, I go into a little bit of her background in the story as well, which is pretty emotional Uh, how she got into social work and counseling and and this has just been kind of this interesting Um, this program has been kind of interesting how it's evolved and um, and uh, and uh, so The reason why it's all come together is city council and unanimously approved This police policy change and this will allow the beginning of this wellness mental health wellness program For the spanish fort police officers, uh, starting in august and the police chief will be the first one that'll start You know, lead by example type of thing. He'll be the first one that'll start basically what it boils down to You know, it's once a year mandatory to just check in or meet with this mental health professional And according to chief, all the police officers can go in there and talk about football for an hour or two or anything They want to they they're not required to do anything. He says, but it's something that You know, they have to do each year once a year Um, the spanish fort police they have a foundation to set up the pace of the co-pay So it's not coming out. It's not paid for by the taxpayers and um And so you know, that's if then if the police officer and they want to go back with their families and be with this counselor and For future sessions, you know, that they would be required to handle that co-pay after that But at least once a year that there's this requirement for For the police officers to meet with with this mental health professional And spanish fort is for my understanding only the second city in the state of Alabama to do it this way Alexander city was the first one and um in chief jon barber. We got a hold of the Alexander city officials and uh, their mental health Professional up there that meets with their police officers don't get a better understanding how their program rolled out Um, according to the chief. This is something that's kind of popular It's growing in popularity throughout the country. Um, different states handle it in different ways Um, they would you know, I I talked to an expert too out of new jersey who told me What you don't want to do is handle it the way the state of kinetics done it where it's they've made it and made it a mandate which a You have to meet every five years and in your jobs dependent on it, you know, so it's more of that intimidation quota And uh, quotient and so yeah, um, interesting story. It was just one of those things I didn't realize either and I got to dig it into and I thought that this was interesting, you know, and and um, um, um, you know, the the question now is whether or not other Agencies in this area or in the state may may want to take Take a similar step as the spanish fort has. Yeah. Yeah. I hope it is dynamic and not you know Plug-and-play to where it works for different officers because I mean in in our world today where people Uh, get upset or where they triggered their word They're triggered because the door dash order wasn't what they order or something like that And for people to stop for a second we think about it and way too late, but finally the battleship has turned a little bit Uh trying to help our our vets, right and so may those vets are also in law enforcement, but What members of law enforcement see? Everyday, right on their job. I don't think Many people stop and think about that and not everybody's going to react the same way, but They see really tough stuff on a daily basis And I think it would be Anybody else who would do that would would absolutely say of course they need to have if they need Talk to somebody they need to have something because They see the worst things every day No, you're correct. And there's a certain, you know, stigma attached to to meeting with a therapist, right and and for police I can only imagine, you know, and so that's what they're trying I think the effort here is to try and kind of rid rid of that stigma and uh, and and make it as as a course of uh of wellness You know something just like physical fitness wellness And uh, so I think that's the approach here. I mean statistics that show that what more Law enforcement officers firefighters and correction officers Are lost to suicide on an annual basis than line of duty, uh, assaults or car crashes And so that's that's problematic. And so that that shows that you know, there is a um, you know what chief barber is doing there in spanish forward is a As a step that I think a lot of departments are probably contemplating as well I just joining us arcing to john sharp with al.com Uh this story and yeah self-serving because I mean you've got a quotes from me in here So it must be the best time you did all week Uh, but the headline here a nation on edge will political rhetoric cool after assassination attempt on donald trump so you you did a Long story you talked to a lot of people here about this your takeaways from that story Uh skepticism, I guess you could say But uh, you know, it'll be interesting to see what the tone of the president president former president trump's Comments will be here this evening. Um Very important to you know, there's been a lot of talk about unity Um, you know lowering the temperature in the aftermath of the attempted assassination attempt on saturday and You know, we don't see that on social media shawn. You don't see that on x at all And so there that's where the skepticism lies And and you know, we're in the middle of a heated political Period right now and and uh, so really how long is that back in the last but you know, we've seen some initial Um, you know, some initial comments that may suggest that hey, you know, we're gonna lower the temperature a little bit on on this heated rhetoric But uh, you know, there's been pass incidents of that that have occurred attempted assassinations You know, we remember the congressional baseball shooting it was at time of pause and and you know bipartisanship and And it all goes away, you know, and then we're back to at each other's throats And but I mean that's kind of what I looked at in this story You know, where were we going with this with this heated rhetoric? And and yeah, I got a lot of a lot of different comments, you know, a lot of different viewpoints put into the piece about Um, you know, how do we how do we call them the temperature a little bit? And you know, but congressman carl that he made some interesting comments. I thought You know, it basically buck buck stops with us the leaders, you know, in the country that You know, it's not, you know, there's no other blame than you know, we just have to be better in washington and And you know, so, you know, just a various, you know, a host of uh observations and and You know, center brit wait in on this on the On the r and c floor the other day and then um, you know, I got her comments in there So yeah, I mean, you know, feel free to check it out and I even interviewed the great sean solo then he's in there's this story Because you know, I you get you get an interesting perspective I think you know, you get that that others don't when you get yeah folks calling in and weighing in on a frequent basis About, um, issues like this that draw, uh some attention and so, um, yeah, it's uh, um, it's definitely something to keep an eye on Again, like tonight, I think it's going to be interesting to see see what uh, president trump has to say During his remarks. It's because the indicator is going to rewrite the whole speech And so I want to see what that looks like. I really am interested to see what his tone is this evening You know, I didn't think about this when we had talked the other day for the story But I mean it was all my mind But it didn't didn't come out of my mouth was the fact I think in this case you you talked to political officials and talking about toning down rhetoric I think it's not those days are gone. I think it flows upwards and That it's the the people, you know, and the the politicians don't hold sway on political rhetoric anymore, right those online platforms you talk about and all that People have a ability to bring up and push rhetoric upwards. And I think you have Politicians then they go. Well, this is Reflective of the people Right, it's it's then from top down. I think some of the rhetoric is from bottom up There's some politicians that have their own beliefs and you know, they're in their silo But there's some just that are out there looking for what people were saying And as that rhetoric comes up, they become a vessel for it Yeah, good point. I wonder sometimes how much x and facebook are part of reality some time You know the overall bomb. Well, they're not reality. I said this Twitter is not reality I mean there it's extremes on all sides I mean that if you would look at the world of twitter everybody would be in bunkers lobbing bombs at each other, right? That's not reality They are extremes that I think hopefully most people can look at that and go, okay I might agree with that and I'd agree with that that's not but that's not reality You know that kind of binary system out there where you're all in or all out No, you're right. I mean, you know, but I wonder sometimes, you know, all or You wonder if there's any any politician taking her cues though and that well The temperature that you know or the media to say well the temperature of the country's boiling over because it's You know, look at this, you know, what everybody's saying on social media and I bingo I don't know. I I kind of wish we would have moved on from something this especially the anonymous stuff from years ago I mean we had anonymous comments on our website that we got rid of probably eight nine years ago and and it changes things doesn't it when you get rid of an office It certainly does although, you know, people put their names on facebook But they know the questions whether or not they come up their own anonymous facebook pages and yeah But when you get rid of anonymous you put someone's name to it. Yeah, it does. You're right. It does change things Um, and there's it's also a lot different when someone is talking one-on-one with someone versus 100% 100% and the media's responsibility here. I mean you One many reasons were friends you do a job of a real journalist and look through and have multiple sources But a lot you'll see a lot of stories that say exactly what you're talking about People on twitter are saying that the uh, you know, the president is a space alien or whatever it is And you go look and there were five people probably four of them were bots saying that and they pick up and produce a news story from that You know that what it is true people were saying I guess But they don't point out it was five people and four of them might possibly be bots And then they run with that story. Now they set that new beachhead and narrative Yeah, this generate eyeball to their piece and and to potentially artificially inflate uh, uh, uh, uh, uh Click count and to to generate bad revenue or to their website. So, you know, it's it could be, you know, various Way, you know, you know that that that is Yeah, uh, that's not the political rhetoric. I don't think we're talking about. But yeah, you're right. Yeah But yeah, you know, let's I've been interested in this this convention. I've watched it here and there over the last Couple of days and um, you know, it's it's it's taken on a different tone than it did uh back in 2016 and uh, it'll be interested to see what what what what what president trump has to say tonight And uh, you know how his speech differs tonight than it did before It the attempted assassination on saturday. It will be interested really will be interested to see like he said You know, he's he's rewritten the speech. So I i'm gonna see what that what that's like Okay, well, we'll be checking it out as well and john if people want to get to have more of what you're writing. How do they find you?
