[MUSIC PLAYING] From Bucks Pocket to the shores of Orange Beach, at all points in between, an insider's perspective on Alabama politics. It's the Jeff Porchow. I don't think they've done it this way. [MUSIC PLAYING] Welcome to the Jeff Porchow, and if we talk 106.5, they should be with us on this Thursday morning broadcasting from-- Well, it is, I guess, technically Birmingham, maybe Mountain Brook, maybe Homewood, somewhere in there, right there at the corner there. But we're here this morning with the usual lineup coming up here on a Thursday morning. Text line always, you want to be in touch with the show. All you've got to do is text me 2513430106. Coming up on the program today, April, Marie Fogel here in about 30 minutes or so. Should I ask her to come in person? I don't even think about it. But she'll be on the program from Pathways Church in West Mobile, Travis Johnson, who's a part of the ceremonies up in Milwaukee, will be with us in that 10 o'clock hour. We'll talk to him about his role at the RNC and his impressions of what he thinks. But looking forward to that discussion. Then finally, at 11 o'clock hour, we'll talk to my friend Del Strong. He is a congressman from the 5th Congressional District up to Huntsville, where I was yesterday. But he's obviously in Milwaukee. We'll get his impressions about what's going on and what is to follow, what comes tonight. Once again, 2513430106, you want to be in touch with the show, all you've got to do is text me. Well, so since we last left, a lot of interesting things. Joe Biden now is COVID. And you guys can think of it what you want. But it's starting to really look like a Joe Biden exit plan. I think the Democrats are in trouble in more way. Here, I don't think I would, I am not bullish on their prospects and in nor should you be. I mean, you always never should take a win for granted. But right now to replace the nominee on a campaign that's predicated, we're not on, we're not them. We're not to threat to democracy. Is it going to work under those circumstances? So here's what you need to think about. Jamie Harrison last night on MSNBC. This is driving from Huntsville to Birmingham. I have to wrap it up some business up there. And I'm listening to MSNBC's coverage on my satellite radio. There's a meltdown underway. While most of the world, I don't know, the five of us who were paying attention to MSNBC at that moment. But they're going through all of these scenarios and they're speculating on everything. And they're trying to figure out, they're trying to figure out like what the best way would be or what they need to do or should they stick with Joe Biden and it's like it's Alex Wagner, it's Nicole Wallace, it's Rachel Maddow, it's Joy Reid. It's a very emotional sort of gathering and they can do it from their fight. I don't know, it's like a more educated version of the view. But then out of the blue, Jamie Harrison, who is the Democratic National Committee Chairman, calls in, or he shows up. He goes on, he's like, look, 14 million people voted for Joe Biden to be their nominee, 14 million Democrat voters. You take the nomination away from him, you're no better than those people in January 6, you wanted to flip the election for Donald Trump. And I know Pelosi, I know Adam Schiff, I know Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, all of these people out there who are saying, hey, we need to, we need to think about changing courses here. There's some Biden loyalists still in very, because Biden put his lieutenants in place. It is not going to be an easy lift for them to replace him. People need to understand that politician. No indication that he wants to leave. So a few thoughts on that, but it looks like they're kind of laying out the Biden defense right now. Jamie Harrison is an extension of Jim Clyburn. If you recall in 2020, guys, was the guy who had Biden's back. Remember, Iowa, New Hampshire happened. Biden's nowhere on the radar. Somehow he went South Carolina, and it wins everything after that. I don't know how in the world that works. Just shows you how powerful Clyburn is. It's clever pulls that off. Clyburn is pulling, Clyburn is playing some cards here. I think Biden is Clyburn's guy. He is the party boss right now, and there's a war within. And I don't know that this goes all the way to the DNC, but boy, if it does, I mean, it's just, if Biden hangs on to the convention, it's that the convention is going to be insane. That's a long way away. But don't assume that Biden's going anywhere right now, and they're going to swap him out for Kamala Harris. They would have done it already. He had the kind of ego problems that the Biden family has, not knowing when to say when. Then I would just caution people who are getting giddy about that. And I don't think anything the Democrats do right now is going to rescue them. I just, there's too much turmoil. It looks sloppy. Is this how you want to run the country? They can make it closer. That's going to be very, very difficult. So Biden has COVID. It looks like maybe there could be an off ramp there, but based on what the loyal lieutenants are saying, I don't know now, will they force him out? That remains to be seen. So it's fascinating how the RC is underway. We're spending on this time on what's going on to the other side. Last night, I think he's a decent pick. I didn't want emotional about this VP thing either way. You could tell that there was a lot of sniping into different factions. The ones who wanted Nikki Haley, the ones which died fast. The ones who wanted Kristi Noem, which also died fast, they came down to Tim Scott, Marco Rubio, Doug Bergram, and the current selection, which is JD Vance. JD Vance has the most compelling story. He's the most interesting of the finalist. But the speech was pretty good. He made it about Trump. It's funny how these characters from his book are kind of for a lot of these people are household names right now in the Republican party, at least. But the theme here, man, they haven't leaned hard into the assassination attempt. Jim and Jones will see it in last night. This is awesome. Like he says, a bullet couldn't stop Trump, but a virus stopped to Biden. That's the optics here. I would just get your popcorn, enjoy it. These people don't know really how to handle themselves. There's just so much here. Historically, I think too that we talk about for a long time. But this is-- I was having breakfast this morning with a political consultant. Has there ever been a worse three weeks for a national political figure than Joe Biden's last three weeks in the history of this country, outside from an assassination or something? But just the last three weeks have been like one of the worst possible. Some of it has its own doing. Some of it just circumstances and happenstance. And even then, I'm telling you, I still thought it was 50/50. And you'll go back to the beginning of June. It was probably a jump ball. But now you hear numbers like 300-plus electoral college votes. It's a Republicans go work in some of these states. Maybe they can pull that off. But the Democrats got to play defense. They're going to have to play defense in places that they are typically strong. I mean, they have to put money to play defense in Colorado. That is not a good use of resources. And also, if you're a big, well-democratic donor, are you going to give money? You're money to this sinking ship with the rats jumping off in 50 different directions. Is this where you want to put things? It's just-- I am telling you, it's just remarkable. All of this drama, for them to, I think, have their best shot. Well, it needed to be resolved like a year ago. At best, it needed to be resolved by Super Tuesday. And they're not even close to anywhere. We don't know what's going to happen. Furthermore, guys, Biden doesn't exit. Kamala Harris gets the nomination. Who is she going to name as her running mate? You think about everything that has to happen right now. It's unprecedented times. I know it's Republican National Committee Week or Convention Week, and I know you want to get the Fox News take and see what an old shot Hannity or whoever has to say. But really, if you really want to have a good laugh or two, watch a little MSNBC tonight, especially with the really hyper-emotional women on that show. Just banging Joe Biden to step aside. It's almost pathetic. Chris Matthews is still out there saying he thinks in the end that Biden becomes a sympathetic figure. He hangs in there. And when we're in the United States of love, a good comeback story. I don't know about that. If I'm the Biden guys, I am at least using that as a talking point. I'm like, well, you know, anything can happen. And I've faced these kind of odds before. I mean, if you're looking Joe Biden in the time she's run for public office, now before he was when he won that US Senate seat, everyone told him he couldn't win, then he won. He's faced down these kind of tragedies before. And I think that's got to be his message here going forward. It's got to be he's got to do something just to hold on to the nomination. You just smoked an election. But even if they do, guys, even if they do change them out, I would be really skeptical of whoever their odds. It gets a long established running candidate. But if you know, I would like to see a bill more aggressive at this Republican convention, but I understand why they're not because they know there's a high probability that the Democrats, it's going to be ugly. There's going to be protest in the streets. They're potentially rioting in the streets. There's going to be four fights. There'll be fighting over who the nominee is. It's going to be chaotic. It's in your to hear democracy could be messy sometimes or whatever. Well, why work the Republicans are messy? Well, they're authoritarians. OK, Democrats are finally having their day and all of their welfare and all of their gimmick plays. It just wasn't nothing. They never built the foundation. They thought that they could rub the score and gimmick plays. And it's not working. I'll be right back. This is the Jeff Moore show. What I've been talking about. You know, actually, surprisingly enjoying parts of it, but I really didn't think I would. I think Trump's granddaughter, John Junior's daughter did a phenomenal job last night of telling her story. And I think, I think we do a really good feature. Well, I think that they are, it seems a little subdued and now look, the standard bearer of the party just took, almost took a bullet and I get it. Maybe you do kind of hang back a little bit here, but I also think this, I think they're just trying to play it safe because we know what's coming up in Chicago next month what the D&C is going to be a blank show. Oh, absolutely, that's without a doubt. The last, and that's one thing that I've enjoyed about this, this convention, with the exception of Amber Rose and while she gave a decent speech, she's still not the person I want on this stage. I think that this has really shown the difference between the crazies of the left and then the family oriented people that we have. People out there talking about the hostages that are still being kept. People out there talking about what Biden's terrible weaving Afghanistan and what the people who lost their lives at at 13. I think that it's a very stark contrast from what we're going to get there. - Well, you know, what kind of freak shows do you roll out at a D&C in 2024? Like all 57 genders? Are they going to get up on the stage and perform like the Wells Fargo wagons coming to town from the music band? I mean, what's it going to look like? I don't know, but whatever it is, it's going to be a stark contrast to the RNC. I think that helps us with a lot of people who, you know, we talk about this a lot, the people who aren't necessarily huge fans of Donald Trump personality, but you look at the two and you go, "We can't have Biden, we can't have Democrats." There's no way, there's absolutely no way. And I think that's how we win people over, but there is very, very stark difference. - I agree. But I also think they're going to have an ugly, ugly fight. I think there's going to be fights over the nominating convention and who they pick. I think there's going to be fights about Palestine and Israel. They just going to be just general chaos in Chicago. It's going to happen. And, you know, the RNC is just going to roll out some veterans. They're going to do a bunch of different things and play it safe. - Well, and primarily it has been played safe. I think that when the most controversial things are the speech by Amber Rose, which was relative, which was a good speech, honestly, she herself has some personal things going on in her life, but her speech was pain. And then the prayers, we were really had inside fighting over, you know, the benediction. And I think that this goes to show that we as a party are very united at this point. And, you know, nothing can unite a party, like having seen what we saw with the assassination attempt. - Well, we've got to that. The assassination attempt, what do you give your percentage chance right now, handicap this thing? What are the odds of who is going to be president? Where do you put the percentage that Trump's going to win this thing? - Oh, I absolutely think Trump's going to win this thing. I do not, as it was said yesterday, you know, Trump took a bullet to the ear, whether it was a breathing bullet or whatever it was, but Trump was shot at and then stood up and said to fight Biden just went back into the basement for having a cold, basically. - Well, his vision said that a bullet couldn't stop Trump, but a virus stopped biting. - Absolutely. And I was thinking that before he said it, and I think the country, as a whole, will be thinking that on election day. Who do we want? Who do we need? And we need a fighter and you're not getting that from Biden. - I mean, we try to look at just this like objectively too. Yes, I'm a Republican and yes, I won't Trump to win, but what, and I had Parker Griffith on yesterday and he's still holding out hope, but like, what makes you think that there's any capability of Joe Biden pulling this off? - Okay, well, we'll just put Kamala Harris on the ballot. Well, she is the worst campaigner. - Yes, she's terrible. - Go back and look at what she did in 2020. She gets to leave coming out of that debate, and then she goes and takes a nap for two months and it has to drop out. - No, I do not see any circumstances in which the Democrats can win with Biden and or Kamala. Something really wild goes down at their convention and they come up with a new ticket just to energize their base. I still think it'll be too little too late. I really just don't see a path for them looking at where they are right now. And I think that the American people, you're like, "Well, how do you, what do you say about Biden?" Go to the grocery store, go to the grocery store, and then come back and tell me Biden's been a good president because I'm telling you, feeding my family a four over here is just wild. - Well, how about this? Has there ever been a major national political figure that's had three worst weeks to Joe Biden has. He's watched the three weeks. - Oh gosh, not that I can think of. - Aside from one that got killed, but I mean, like, this is historic. - This is, and the fact of the matter is, this is the Joe Biden that's been, that's had this presidency, right? We just, it's been hidden from the majority of people by the media, by his handlers. What we saw on the debate stage was Joe Biden, the subsequent interviews, and now the weakness of having, you know, then act like a cold. And by the way, that was their answer when he was at the debate. Oh, he had, he has a cold. Well, now he's got COVID, and they're just putting him in a hole. It could be no worse time, by the way, than perhaps COVID than right now for Joe Biden. - No, and I, you know, I just, I don't think there's any way to repair Joe Biden right now. They could shoot him full of drugs. They could give him lines of cocaine. They could shoot him for a B-12 or whatever. They could give him a gallon of V8 juice. I don't know. It's just, this is what you're voting for. - This is what you're voting for. And it's basically a, we're gonna buy a kind of situation. We all do this, right? Like this was gonna come out eventually. We all knew this. - Why is it coming out now? - I thought-- - Yeah, but he's been covering for him, or do you think they just, they realize after the debate that they can't anymore? - I think maybe half and half. I do think that you know how that town is, and everybody wants access to the White House, or some mid-tier presidential White House staffer. And they control the media that way. Oh, you wanna start asking questions about President Biden's health? Well, you're not getting invited to the after party of the White House correspondents, or whatever. I mean, they do stuff like that. Some people play along to get along. They just didn't realize how far gone it was. I think most of us had our suspicions, but I think, I mean, these are dumb people who are in the media business. - I mean, they really don't. Yeah, no, they feel a lot of dumb people, and they took the answers they were getting from the White House and from consultants. They took that as if it was the gods on a truth, and it was not. And I think some of them are ashamed right now, but on the other hand, I think a lot of them kind of are proud of themselves, proud of themselves on the back, that they got away with this for years. And so, I don't know how they, I do not be any past for Biden to be reelected. And Trump, just, he looks stronger than ever. - He looks stronger than ever, and this is the thing. Even going into the debate, I thought it was a 50/50 jump ball. And on paper, it should not have been that close. Trump is twice a beach, 34 felony convictions. And he is just, we did four years of Trump. There ought to be Trump fatigue. Biden's the incumbent. He has the power of the incumbency. And he's the best. He's tied with Donald Trump. - It's frightening. - So, I mean, like at that point, that's where they should have had their like, hey, we need to do something else here discussion. It's too late. I mean, it's almost August. There's still not 100% on who their candidate's gonna be. - Well, I think what is really scary, so we live this, right? We see this each and every day. We pay attention to Biden and Trump. For people outside of the nation, can you imagine what they're seeing? Based on your just short description of Trump and his convictions and his impeachment there, looking at Biden, watching the snippet videos of him, you know, naming things the ones he's Putin and his debacle at the debate. People outside of this nation, they have to think what the heck is happening here. Is this the best we got? - I guess, but it's like that every time. Well, these are the two best people in a nation of 300 something million that we have. And I just, you know what? They won their primaries. - They did win their primaries. That's what that's-- - The DNC's always been rigged though. It was rigged for Biden these last two times around. It was rigged for Hillary, the time around before that. Obama somehow was able to beat the establishment in 2008. But like since Obama was installed as the nominee in '08, I mean, they just, they've created their own party apparatus. It's just really for Texan incumbency. - Yep, no, I agree. I think they, and they, you know who their bench isn't deep. And the people they have, they line them up. It's like the floor of speakership. You've got people there that are like, this is gonna be the next one, and then this one's gonna be the next one. But I think that it's gonna be really interesting to see what happens in Alabama if Trump has elected, because I think there's a lot of people who are gonna be flying that one way to DCA. - Well, I would just like you look at it this, and being in this business of conserving the media, and this happens whenever a Republican president is elected, they go to work through the Republican president. The thing, the secret is that April Maria, do you know this? That town is full of left wing Democrat operatives, the consultants, the strategists, the talking heads. And whenever a Republican wins, and this was definitely true during George Bush, you had all these people moving into DC from Texas, but like when a Republican wins, they have to import all of their like support staff. That was the mistake Trump made in 2016, is just not knowing like how much, how he's gonna have to bring in his own allies. And it's always kind of fascinating to watch me in this business, how many of your colleagues, how many people you used to work with, go to take some kind of job in the executive branch of the federal government? - Yeah, a lot of people don't realize, you know, what a schedule C job is. That is a, that is the like worker bees of the administration. That is a presidential appointee job that typically goes from someone who's putting ages of say 20 and 45 before you get into those higher positions. Or needed at every agency they're needed at the White House at the East. And it takes a lot of bodies to make that work, and you're right, they all have to be imported because as soon as the, we lost the White House, as soon as Trump's administration was over, said or back to where they're from. - That's how your buddy, Chris Sibs, got a Trump administration job to first go around. I mean, it's just, it's hard. It's hard to say. - It's hard to say. - I know y'all are tight. It's hard to find people to go and work in these Republican administrations. If the Democrat wins, then the town's just full of Democrats. But I think the JD Vance Pick told me this, April, Marie. And Trump's not gonna be listening to Lindsey Graham. He's not gonna be listening to all these establishment, old Bushies. He's sticking to his gut this time around. Trump 2.0 is gonna be different. He's gonna go more with the Bannon, Stephen Miller types, and less with the Rex Tillerson, I don't know, whatever. People that are being, you know, Nicky Haley or whatever. People to bring in people like that to try to make, to build bridges, he's done with that. Did they screwed him how many times over? That's not the way he's gonna run his government this time around. - Oh no, I agree. I think that the cast of characters that will make up Trump's cabinet is going to be, love 'em or hate 'em just very, I would say, principled, very, in terms of they're gonna do what you, we're gonna get rid of the Department of Education. - But they're gonna be true believers. I think it did what it needed to do. It was all, it needed to be about Trump. The Democrats are making a mistake here, trying to make this. They got two lines of attack, Project 2025 and JD Vance is the evil spine of like, I don't know, whatever the most ideologically right machinations, whatever it may be. He's worse than that. He wants to ban abortion everywhere, not just the United States or whatever it may be. And there's a little bit of JD Vance. It's like, it's like faux JD Vance arrangement syndrome. This is the guy we're supposed to be triggered by. I understand if you want to be triggered by Donald Trump, or you're really getting triggered by JD Vance. Come on guys. So anyway, it's, I don't know why they're doing this. It's just, there's too much ground to make up for these. Like I said, gimmicky kind of attacks. They thought the Democratic Party, the Democratic establishment in America, they thought that they could win a presidential election. Not based on anything of their own doing, but based on convictions, based on a, an impeachment, based on a hyped up January 6 charge, based on all this law fair, was not, was not going to work. I mean, you got to have something to run on. You can't just run against something. That more people will come out to vote against something that they will force something, but you still got to have a little bit of both here. You can't just, you can't just run against Trump. Biden has nothing to run on. I mean, my landing up column this week, let's give credit where credit is due. 500 some million dollars for the IT bridge. But it came at the expense of a $1.2 trillion package. And this is all the infrastructure and everything else that they dumped into this larded up spending bill. There was nothing but a spending bill. You know, I'll think about this. So seven miles to get from point A on the western shore of the mobile bay to the eastern shore. From right there at hamburger hill all the way to the foot of the opening of the bankhead tunnel or a lost tunnel or whatever, whatever. And that's, what, $3, $4 billion? I don't know, whatever, it winds up being. With $1.2 trillion, they could build a bay way to the Tennessee state line for mobile. With $1.2 trillion, they could build a bay way to Lake City, Florida. $1.2 trillion, they could do a lot of things with that much money. And all we're getting is a paltry $500 million out of it. So like when I see Terry Sewell and other Democrats doing victory laps and talking bad, disparaging their Republican colleagues, this spending bill with the money for this bridge is coming from it. That is a joke. Is that the one thing you want you to give Biden credit for? That's pathetic. What else is there to give him credit for? What is the Biden administration? And they do this thing. Well, the economy's getting better, but people don't believe you. Well, your people are stupid, and this is it. Well, and I've sat through these panels and I know these people. Well, you see that the economy's bad, but there is a blank, blank, blank amount of job recovery, the stock markets at all time. Well, you just don't know what you're talking about. The economy's great. People don't believe you. People aren't having, it's not. People don't feel it. They're not able to go out and buy a new car. They're not able to go out and buy a new home. They're not able to take vacations like they used to. The cost at the grocery store, as April Warriors saw about is a lot higher. So don't, I mean, don't try to sell us on this idea. The economy's doing better under Joe Biden. It's not. It just isn't. But that's, that's, that's one of the talking points here. Well, despite what you feel the economy is, it really is doing better. That's not gonna win you presidential election, guys. What's something that Biden has to run on? And I don't know. What's something that he's done right? If you're out there and you're listening, like, like, how is your life improved because of Joe Biden? And I'm always like, careful and I want to preface this. I don't think government is the source of happiness, of prosperity. I don't think you could rely on the government. But what has he done in his four years? It's gonna make you feel good about that situation. I'm serious, like, and I'm, I'm, I thought about this. I've thought about this, I've thought about this. I don't know the answer to this question. All they can run on is that he's not Donald Trump. But I don't think that's enough. So demons are in panic and you could say, orange, Tito Jesus, all you want, you're losing. Two five, one, three, four, three, zero, one, zero, six. Jason, were you able to hear James Colin yesterday? He was surprisingly well spoken, but very misled. No, I did not hear that. I don't know a name texture. I mean, I don't know about this judge. He might. Josh, what is Project 2025? If I'm going to be blamed for something, I want to know what it is. Thanks. So Project 2025, it is Heritage, the Heritage Foundation. It's, it is the, the conservative think tank. It was Reagan's think tank. I've been there hundreds of times over the years. I know some of the people that they've worked there forever. There's these state takes in Washington and you're going to think like, wow, who would pay for this? And, but they're based, they're non-profits. People give money and they create policy papers. They come up with conservative ideas or liberal ideas. The Center for American Progress is like the Clinton think tank. The Brookings Institute is sort of one. The Urban Institute, American Enterprise Institute. Patent and Enterprise Institute. Heritage, Heritage is a big one. Brookings is a big one. But they're these think tanks and they exist. Just to sort of be the, the idea people. And I think the Coors family gives a bunch to Heritage. They're non-profits. They raise a lot of money and they just exist to do a lot of the, do a lot of the ideas. They're the ideas people. The people come up with ideas like school choice or whatever. They help lawmakers, they draft legislation. Like the Alabama policy institute would be Alabama's version or the parka is the left wing response to it here in Alabama. But they come up with ideas and that's what they do. So every four years, Heritage does this. They come up with Project 2016, Project, or Project 2017, Project 2021, Project, you know, and you go back and it's just like kind of like checklist, punch list of things that they would like to see out of a Republican administration or any administration, they're nonpartisan, but they are ideological. So for whatever reason, or whatever crazy, silly, goofy reason Democrats are looking around for something to demagogue. You got to have something to run against. And I guess Donald Trump wasn't enough. So they, they picked this and it's just strange to be kind of knowing about what this is. They picked this Project 2025 sort of policy wish list to run against. And they're trying to make it out to be like something. Guys, I'm going to tell you this. Have you ever heard of any of this stuff before? And they do this every four years. Have you ever heard of, heard them talk about the Heritage Foundation or any of that? This is how you know this is a manufactured controversy, but they are in trouble, they're looking for gimmicks, Project 2025 is the Biden campaign's talking point, they need to something to run against. And this is what it is. And it's just a wish list from the Heritage Foundation. None of it usually gets passed because it's so hard to pass things in Congress, but they're trying to make it seem like if you're president of the United States, you could take this list of like ideas and just implement them. And it does not work that way. Democrats are very simple. Chris, what you're failing to ask yourself, Jeff, is what is he going to say after next debate because there is one scheduled, correct? I don't see how he takes the stage. Tim, Jeff always saw Biden would be the nominee regardless of what happens now. I hear that Pelosi and Adam Shitzer asking him to step down, what are your thoughts? Um, I didn't think it's too late. I mean, I said this earlier, Jim, it's too late. It had to be Kamal Harris at this point. But the Biden loyalist, the people who are loyal to Biden, and this is what I sincerely think, is a congressional black caucus led by James Clyburn. And there's just some kind of weird drama between Clyburn and Kamala Harris. Why it hasn't, one reason why it hasn't happened yet. We'll be right back. Pastor, good morning, aren't ya? - Hey, Jeff, I'm doing great. It's always great to talk to you. - Hey, thanks for comin' on. Well, just your impressions, you're there. I mean, I don't know how many of these you've been to before, but I'm watchin' on TV and it feels optimistic, but somber, it's a much different environment, probably than what a lot of people would be used to in RNC, but all your impressions. - Well, first of all, I'd like to say that it's important for all of us, especially my pastor and I love talkin' to people about Jesus, especially love to talk to the church, love the church. And I think all of us, it would be so good if we were all involved in our local government, our state, our national elections. I think sometimes there's this feeling that the church and Christians ought not be involved in politics, but what a terrible thing. If Christians didn't show up and vote, we didn't pray for our leaders. And so kind of in that flow, it's just really good to be here. It's great to be involved and I'm thankful for it. - Well, and then-- - Well, go ahead. - No, the environment's been great. Of course, comin' out, Ralph Reed is pretty incredible. He has worked for so long on the sanctity of life on family. So important, the nuclear family is really under attack in our world, which is crazy. To me, it's a building block of society. And a child that grows up with a mom and dad is such a competitive advantage in life. And having somebody like Ralph Reed really championing dad and then hearing so many great voices this morning, speaking of behalf of the family and faith and the unborn life, it's been great. But yeah, it's been wonderful, especially coming out of Saturday in the assassination attempt on President Trump and just thinking that our world could be a lot different right now, had that gone a different way. There's a real sense of gratitude, I would say. - And I wanna get to that in a moment, but just as far as the RNC goes, and I think it's important that there is some kind of component to this event at the RNC dealing with faith, dealing, 'cause I mean, recently, if it's like things that get a little watered down, especially with the platform and the pro-life stuff, but do you feel pretty good about at least having a say in kind of the process there, a role, a presence, if you will? - I do, and I think also it's important for the church to recognize, Christians, and pastors, faith leaders, we're not wearing a hat, we're not wearing a hat for a party. We have a king, he's Jesus, and it's important that we show up and we speak to issues that are so important. And so yeah, it's absolutely important that we're engaged in and involved, and as far as watering down, the watering down is, it's not just a political problem, it's a problem in our churches. Yeah, if it really feels like over the last 30 decades, a lot of our churches have rounded off the corners of the gospel so that we could preach something a little more palatable, maybe grow our congregations a little bit bigger, but we have to preach the gospel for people to be saved, and actually what I've noticed is that when you have people there speaking truth, good things happen, the churches I see right now that are growing, or the gospel faithful churches where unapologetic truth of the gospel's being preached, I think people are hungry for that right now in the church and outside of it, but the truth speakers would stand up and show up, speak up. And I think so much of this, I talk about this all the time on my show, do you have a component of the public? It tends to dwell the left side of the spectrum, but where they've replaced government with God, like it's not that they worship government, but they do seek answers, they seek out. Human beings are just predisposed to seek something greater than themselves, and spiritually, I mean, that is typically historically, especially this country been to church, but like here in the last 10, 15 years, it feels like it's kind of gone like, well, the government, I expect some kind of answer from my government, my authority figures, and they're forgetting about faith. - I would agree with that. In fact, I hear some people say, well, the Christians need to pray for the government, and we should, first Timothy two tells us to do that, Paul tells us to do that. The interesting thing is in America, we are the government, and we are, it's our voice. Our government is accountable to our people. My prayer is second chronicles, 714, that if my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves, it will repent, will seek his face, and we'll hear from heaven, and God will heal our land, and it's important. We've grasped so many things, they're just detrimental, detrimental to our country, to our communities, things that are, things that are moral, things that are good, are in oftentimes right now, in the last 15 years that you speak of are called evil. The things that are evil are being called good, and so it's so important for us to stand and speak, and if we do show up, and we do speak, people will listen. If we cower back in the back, people will listen to other voices, the wrong people will step to the stage, and so it's so important for us to be true. I had someone recently that pointed out a particular church that had embraced some of the ideologies that have been really kind of on the hot topic lately as a good example, and I just had to point out that that church is completely falling apart now. It's a failed institution, and so you look at this, so many ideologies are conquering different institutions in our country right now, it's deconstructing, it does great, a great deal of harm. - Yeah, I know-- - We're gonna speak. - And I know, looking to attack any sort of domination, but the United Methodist Church is having this, well, they had it the last few years, right? And they tried to kind of water down some of it, I think, and it's only resulted in turmoil. I don't know where they go from here, but that's what it looks like to be, you know? - No, the United Methodist Church is looking off the assets of previous faithful generations. We have some really courageous United Methodist, former United Methodist church pastors in our community that have disaffiliated, have some former United Methodist elders that are part of our church and not part of the global Methodist Church. It's a faithful denomination. So you had in the United Methodist Church some one million members left in this last month, thousands of churches have disaffiliated. It's no longer a church. When you discredit the Bible, then, you know, let's just talk from a very practical standpoint. If you say that the Bible is not true, and you say it on marriage, or you say it on, you know, any number of issues, then how in the world will that church even support itself? Because the people won't tithe, they won't give. And, you know, it's terrible. You know, John Wesley is this great, great minister. That founded the Methodist Church, and it's so far away from him. But, I mean, I guess that's a little bit of a different discussion, but the same thing is true. You know, it's true. We've got to stand, we've got to speak truth. I'm thankful for our leaders. I wish the church would be more engaged politically. I wish every single church, every single pastor, every single Christian in our communities, would show up and vote. There's, you know, tens of millions. There's more evangelical Christians that don't vote than do. - Well, I just, and I see that, you know, that people, people are busy, people have, but they don't, it's just, it is a heavy lift to keep up with a lot of this. I find for a lot of votes. And I don't know what the answer to that is. I mean, they are doing the right thing. I think they put their Bible study, their scripture, their church life first. And then you've got all the rigors of life beyond that. And then politics and current affairs and things like that, kind of get put on the back burner. - Well, I mean, we are on social media so much. Most of our news consumption right now is happening online. And, you know, algorithm feeds what we're looking at. So whatever we look at, we get more of, you know, I'm interested in the health and my kids and next generation. There's some great things happening in our community. Incredible things. And there's so much to celebrate. We have some real great next generation champions that are coming up in our schools. But it takes, it takes involved parents, you know, it takes, you think about it from the church standpoint. Let's say I have, I don't have on a Sunday with my church, but, you know, kids are being indoctrinated on TikTok, Instagram 24/7. So there has to be intentionality. You know, it's kind of like you send your kids to Rome. Don't be surprised when they come back Romans, you know, we've got to engage and shape. And it's a real privilege. It took such a privilege. You have to be a father, you know, to be a parent. We live in an incredible community. And so we need to be engaged. We have to be initiated people. - Join by Travis Johnson of Pathway Church, Westmobile pastor, one of the things you're hearing a lot and some of my colleagues are on the ground in Milwaukee, talking about what happened Saturday, divine providence, the, you know, God, it worked there that he, you know, the hand of God made Donald Trump turn his head at the last minute to keep something very, very tragic from happening. I mean, what do you make of all that talk? What is a kind of a reasonable discussion point there to have about all that? - Well, you know, I don't think anybody's saying that the secret service stopped it. And nobody's saying that the police stopped it. And it looks like, you know, multiple failures along the way and, you know, challenges along the way. And, you know, I don't know how else you do describe it. You know, it was providential. Maybe some would say it's totally coincidence, but man, it's a great coincidence. You look at it, head turned. You know, it doesn't matter what your political party is, if you think about it, if President Trump had been shot and killed on Saturday, we'd be living in a very different world right now. I'm so thankful, I'm thankful that he's safe, you know. I'm concerned for President Biden as well. It is a critical time for our republic. We don't settle our differences like that in America. We have a few times. That's not how that supposed to happen. It's a great tragedy for a country when something like that happens. And I'm so thankful that President Trump is safe. He looks different to me. He sounds a little bit different to me. - What is the mood? I mean, I don't know if you were there for what he's kind of made us cameos and he's walked out, he doesn't walk through. I mean, like I said, it just, watching it on TV, it feels very, very different. And maybe there's a time for reflection and what could have been? What would the country look like today, Pastor, if Donald Trump had been assassinated? What would we be talking about? I mean, just think about how stark the contrast is, but I mean, thinking people are kind of thinking about these things right now. - I'm sitting about four rows behind President Trump. That environment is celebratory. There's no question. You know, of course you get into a convention like this and that's going to be the case. But there is a very real sense that great tragedy was averted. And but his voice, you know, his tenor, it sounds different. You know, of course, we've always heard, you know, President Trump didn't very open to Christians. I'm a member of the National Faith Advisory Board. You know, we've had really great access to President Trump. I prayed with him the night before the debate. You know, I was in Bedminster with him and some of the other National Faith Advisory Board members the night that he was arrested in DC. He's always given access to the Christians and to faith leaders. I'm thankful for that. My prayer, my prayer is that he would see what happened on Saturday's providential hand of God. And the truth is for all of us, you know, let's just talk about a bigger issue for all of us. Every one of us are so blessed that we breathe and we have life. And life is a gift from the Lord. I think we could all be a little more thankful for God's grace and providence in our life. We have a great community, even in the political discourse, people of different persuasions, people that have different opinions, which is almost all of us. There's hardly any two people that agree on everything. They don't. If they do it, one of them is unnecessary. But our discourse has become so rough that we make enemies of one another. And, you know, maybe this is an opportunity for all of us to step back and value one another regardless of our political opinions or, you know, opinions on things that happen in our communities. This is the calling of Christians, you know, to love the Lord of God with all our heart, our soul, our mind, our strength in the second. So love our neighbors, ourselves. We can use some more of that. - Pastor, we got to leave it there. - A little short on time, but stay safe. Now, here's one thing that's going on. I think people in government, Democrat politicians primarily, not a state of Republicans don't do it, but mostly those on the left side of the spectrum are trying to replace faith with government. He can't just do that. And this is the problem for any administration, primarily Republican administration, is where you got a bunch of Democrats who work for you. They're not loyal to this administration. And they're gonna make their life a living hell as much as they can because they disagree with it politically. People who go to work in government, typically have a belief in government. You don't find many Ron Paul, libertarians, working at the Department of Commerce. And they just don't, it's just not compatible to the worldview. So the problem is this. You can't, you can't just go in, be president and be like a bully to China shop. You've gotta figure out how to extricate some of these problem people out. And that's hard to do to correct this whole, like sort of deep administrative state that we live under. And one more thing for you to our next guest, Fox News has it up on their screen right now that there's a report out that Biden mixed, a race as soon as this weekend, they've been playing these clips from morning Joe, who seem to be sort of a good bellwether for what's going on on the other side. I don't know, it's looking pretty ominous right now for the Biden side, so maybe I need to turn my TV from Fox over to MSNBC to figure out what's going on here. But last night, I'm telling you guys, Jamie Harrison, the DNC chairman showed no, he had no show no indication of a Biden exit here. So we'll see, we're keeping our eyes on that and I'm sure it's gonna unfold over the next few days. But joining us now, she's in Milwaukee, I call it an Audible here on the program. Judy Barlow, the East Shore Republican women is with us. Judy, good morning, how are you? - Good morning, Jeff, I'm great, I'm losing my voice a little bit, but a little bit tired, it's been exciting, ready to get started again today for a long day. - Well, well, some of my colleagues and some of my friends are up there in Milwaukee, tell me about what they're going. It is maybe not as boisterous as some of these conventions have been in the past. There's an optimism, but there's also, maybe a little bit of a little somber, it's not quite as boisterous because of what happened last Saturday. - You know, we get asked that. We do a lot of interviews throughout the day and through the evening and we get asked that. And at first on our way in, we're excited and we're a little bit somber and a little bit apprehensive about our president being shot, but when you watch him get up off that stage with his fist raised in the air and you see that throughout the convention every night when we chant fight, fight, fight. And that is us talking to President Trump saying, yes, we are going to fight not in violence, but for our families and for our American freedom and for our values. We're coming together. We're unified as a party. We are excited. The excitement is just palpable in the air. - Well, what are some takeaways here? The politics look like the politics usually do, but I kind of watch it on TV. They're not leaning into the Saturday shooting quite as much, but maybe that's for the better. - That's right. You know, what we're hearing is each day, it's about making America strong again, making America safe again was the other night when we heard from police across the nation. You're hearing from everyday people and that's what we're about are the forgotten Americans. And we're talking about the everyday average forgotten American that inflation is touching in every aspect of your life, whether it's from the price of gas to the price of groceries to just everything that we're encountering in life. - Yeah, to me, and I think about this probably too much, but like, if I'm on the other side, if I'm Democrats or I'm a Biden guy, what am I running on? - Exactly. - And I don't know what the answer to, even just trying to be just dead honest about this, I don't know the answer to that question. - Neither do they. We, they don't have anything to run on. And that's where our excitement comes in. We truly have a platform to run on, which makes the American families prosperous again. When you look at the border, deporting, closing the border, deporting illegal immigrants, working on our economy, drilling again, we talked about that, drilling again and not making Iran rich off of our money, but keeping the money at home. And just, just various things. It's just amazing what we can do for our families now. They're not doing that. They have not been focused on our families and on our nation. And they have nothing to cheer about. So the distinction is there. - Well, tell me something else. The concern, obviously coming out of Saturday, security, what's it like on the ground there? I mean, are you protestors or anything like that? Does it feel pretty safe? Does it feel pretty like down to you? - Yes, it feels very safe. The police, the Secret Service are everywhere. We have to come in from outside the perimeter and once we're getting, but they're outside with us. So they're everywhere we are. And we're obviously trying to be very careful, but it's just very safe. And everybody just seems to be looking out for each other and wanting to spend time together. It's a real unified front, exciting to be there, just honored to be here. And it's just very, we realize it's a very historic occasion and the love for the President when he comes in the building, he's been there every night. And the love for him when he comes in the building is just overwhelming. It's just raw emotion. - What a, I mean, tonight is gonna be, I think tonight, Judy, and you're gonna get to be there for it. Probably be the most watched, good vision speech in the history of the country. What are you kinda anticipating? - Well, and it's something you just touched on. I have, we all have friends and family. They're just glued to the TV every night watching this. It has really captured our American family, our hearts and our minds as we're going forward. And they're looking for answers and they're looking for solutions. The American, I mean, the people are looking for solutions right now. And the Republican Party has the solutions and our President is the vehicle to deliver those solutions for our families. - Yeah, so, and, you know, it's, but it's just a moment where you think about the last time he spoke in public and then speaking tonight, what's he gonna say about that? Like, we don't know. - You know, you know, the first night that he was there and he got the standing ovation and just the excitement and the raw emotion that was there, you could see his chin quivering. So I think it may be a little bit differently may hear from a more personal side tonight because he's speaking to the people and to the families about what he wants to do. When you heard his granddaughter speak last night and talk about her grandpa, it was just, it's just painting him in a more personal light. And as a person. - The other thing, and this may be more of a mainstream media creation and tell me, like, you keep hearing people talk about, especially on the other networks, about unity. This is gonna be the great unity speed. I mean, I don't know how much I'm an appetizer is for that among the Republican party. They're just, not that unity is necessarily a bad thing, but making it a priority. - I think the GOP is pretty much well unified right now, especially after the night before last with all the other candidates who spoke, but that this seems to be the virtue that we're being told by the left of center media that we need to be on the watch for. - You know, I think we are unified right now. I think what we're trying to do is speak out to every family right now and to let you know that there is hope out there. We have some solutions that we can put in place. - Well, and I think you're unified too. I think that's just like a media exaggeration there trying to, I don't start to pile it up or something. And I don't think that's gonna work. I think they're barking up the wrong tree. The other thing that the big story obviously is the selection of JD Vance. What were your impressions of him speaking last night? - You know, JD came across as, again, an average everyday American that grew up poor and with a single mom. And he really, his story resonated with a lot of people. I think across the nation. It's not about the elite that you're seeing right now with a Biden family. It's about having everyday average American family taking care of now and represented in the White House. - Yeah, but the, here's my sort of impression of the Vance selection. And I mean, I didn't really have a dog in this fight. I thought all the candidates would have been fine. Burger and Rubio, Tim Scott, whatever. But to me, the most ideologically compatible that the Donald Trump is on, if you wanna call that a thing, is JD Vance. I mean, if you've read this book and you kind of understand all that, you see it. So, my point is this that maybe this time around, he's gonna, Donald Trump is gonna rely more on his instinct, his judgment and not listen to other people because I think in 16 pick advance was an effort to unity virtue that everyone's talking about. I think some of his cabinet selection early in 17 was a product of that as well. And I think this time around, we're gonna see a Donald Trump who, let's just, you know, play this out. If he does win in November, maybe we're gonna see more of him like kind of like, no, this is where I wanna go with it and this is where we're gonna go with it. And I'm not gonna listen to Lindsey Graham or whoever it may be. - I think you're right. And I think, you know, it's all a learning curve too and you've done it once and you know what you want the next time and you're trying to set up a group that they're gonna work well for our nation and for our families and our people. And I think that that is what the Trump team is doing right now. You can tell that they've worked very hard to reach out to the everyday average American person to let them know that we have not forgotten our families and we're looking forward to the future and making America strong again. - Well, Judy, I mean, and we'll let you go. I know you got to go catch a bus. They ferry you all around town and I don't know how these things could go, but before we let you go, are you making the trip back tomorrow, I assume? - Yes, we'll be back tomorrow. - Well, I wish everybody my best while you're up that way, especially tonight and safe travels back. - We will do that. Hey, thanks for making time for us. We'll start here. You've been texting me a little bit and we've been swapping some text messages. What's your overall impression of what's going on? I assume it's kind of electric, but it's not too boisterous, just based on the circumstances from Saturday. When you think about it, we're 100 hours from our candidate taking a bullet for our country and attempting the assassination to keep them from being the next president. That's unbelievable in itself, but this environment here in Milwaukee is pretty electric at this point and just the stories of JD Vance and where he came from. I think that's pretty compelling. And then you think about the granddaughter of President Trump talking about her grandfather. I'm telling you, I happened to get a call and they wanted me to go and do a TV and a interview with Don Jr. So I go to that and go to the staging area for that. He walks in and said, "Forget it. Let's go to the President's box." He said, "We need to be there." Man, you walk in. They put me in the President's box and a couple of minutes later he walks in. So I was two rows behind him and I'm just telling you right now it's unbelievable to think about what they've been through that family. But I'm telling the granddaughter she set that place on fire. It was unbelievable how she was talking about her grandfather and it touched a lot of folks. I think the rest of the country saw it last night. Guys, I want to tell you something that stands out to me about this convention. Just watch it on TV. I mean, you do see Alabama in the room. I've seen you guys when the camera pans around. A lot of faces I know, but you know, Katie and Wesley Britt and the VIP box on Monday. I mean, you guys really are carrying the banner from our home state here. Well, I'll tell you right now. That's the one thing is for a little bit more than nine years I've known. I got to know the President very well. I think Alabama's position very well whenever this goes down because I'm telling you right now we're on speed dial with the President. It definitely will not help our state. And then you know the commitment that, you know, you look at Mike Rogers, myself, Katie, coach. Just go down the list. I mean, Alabama's pretty consistent with national security. And I think we've got someone to finish business. Are you? You mentioned JD Vance. I mean, out of all the picks, I didn't really have a preference there, but you feel pretty good about that? I feel good about it, and I'll be honest with you. I knew the President had been in with the Virginia Governor four times in recent weeks. I really thought he was going to go that direction, but I think JD Vance is a great selection. And I think the story of his family and him telling his kids to get their butt in bed. I think that right there resonates with the common people of our state being one of those. And I think that that right there is going to put it in perspective. But I think that you've got some, this is going to be a dynamic duo with a quick learn. I mean, that's the thing. I think JD just speaks common. And I think it's going to benefit our country. Well, and I had Judy Barlow from Martin of the Woods on just now, but my impression of the Vance Pick is this. In 16, he went with Pence, which was sort of the bridge to a SDD. What was left over from the Tea Party Wing and the Republican Party? And then when he's after inauguration, he brings in a lot of cabinet members listening to old Bush people trying to be like that guy that's going to bring everybody to the table and really try to govern that way. And he got burned. I don't think he's going to do that this time. And I think that Vance Pick is telling us what we're going to do. And if Vance Pick is telling us what we should expect if he wins in November. You can take this to the bank. He's not going to do that again. You looked at it. You just go down the list. General Kelly, kneecapped him throughout the people that were loyal to the president. I thought that was whenever he became chief, and that was awful. I believe, you know, matter of fact, in conversation, it's going to be about loyalty and people that are willing to work. The first 100 days is going to set the tone for where we're going with this administration. We got four solid years. I think JD will be learning a lot in this process. But I told him, I said, man, let's go seven days a week. Do whatever we've got to do. But that first 100 days is going to set the tone real quick. And we're going to be able to accomplish in this next four years. Yeah, well, and then I think that's the way that that's what people want. They want, I mean, they want to get what they're paying for. They want to buy into it. They don't want throwbacks from like the neo con era or whenever in Republican politics. And, you know, the one thing I kind of you kind of take away from it. Maybe maybe some of the messaging has been kind of weird. The teamsters guy on the first night, I'm not really sure what that was about. I know it was a big get to get him. But I do get the sense that maybe more policy oriented toward what we talk about is sort of this, this maga populism. Jeff, the issues. It doesn't matter where you go in this country. And I've been to a bunch of states here recently, especially. It doesn't matter where you go. The Southern borders, the number one issue. We had policies that worked. We had the remaining Mexico that worked. You had Trump that fueled up ICE air and processed these illegals when they came across, returned them to their country of origin. We know what works. Biden knew it worked. But that's what he wanted. He wanted to create this circus. And him and Alejandro Marquez, they created 100% of this. So now we've got to deal with it. The American people want this mass roundup conducted and get it rolling on day one. And that's the thing we've got to do. You can't reward bad behavior. The first thing you do when you come to this country is come in illegally and give the bird to the American people. That shouldn't be rewarded. That should be the first ones that go back. The next thing that I'm hoping to do as a congressman is to say if you vote illegally in America, we're going to fast track you out of here because that's the thing. They can call it, you know, they say, oh, you're trying to intimidate people. No, I don't want illegal alien voting in this next election. I want the American people. The legal, the folks that are here legally should be the ones voting. And these illegal ought to be returned immediately. And I think the vast majority of America stands behind that. We're joined by Congressman Dell Strong here on the program. Of course, there's something else that occurs to me. And like we'll talk about Saturday, the elephant in the room. And like they couldn't get that right. They couldn't. That's like one of the most important things we expect out of our federal government is the secret service to get that right. But I think it's more emblematic of what's going on in the Biden administration. Just these colossal failures of this policy, be it execution, be it whatever it may be. If this is going on in the secret service, which is a very, very front and center, what do you think it's like at the Department of Transportation or the Department of the Interior or any other facet of the federal government that is under the control of the Biden administration? Well, you saw with the local people were saying, you got to gown this building. He's dragging a rifle with him. Okay, there's no way that guy looked like anybody in law enforcement that you couldn't well, that it would. There were so many things in that the president, you know, I mean, I'm six one easily. He's six three and a half and you got somebody five foot six trying to cover him. I'm telling you right now, they can't cover body mass or somebody five foot six. Thank God the president was able to walk off the stage because they could not have carried him with the people that they had trying to cover him. Then if you notice, whenever he walked off the stage, pumped the crowd and was getting in the armored SUV, notice how long that SUV sat there. If the president has attempted assassination on him, that SUV should have been moving within seconds and it's sat there or they waiting on a hand or need to come out there on it. The American people saw it. You don't have to be in law enforcement. Understand there was a true breakdown there. There were some good things that happened, but I'll tell you this right here. I can't imagine in law enforcement having to ask for a green light for a shot on somebody that's on top of the building and the number one presidential candidate giving a speech. I hope that's not the truth, but you know the committees I serve on. I'm on Homeland Security. I was with my Mark Green yesterday, the chairman. He said, are you ready? I said, I come to our committee. Then I saw Speaker Johnson yesterday. If we put a select committee together, he asked, what was I willing to serve? I said, absolutely. I said, we've got to get the questions there and find out what's going on. It looked like to me that they put just scrapped a secret service group together to do this. It's strange to me that they still got security on Fauci and we don't have enough security on who speaks to be the next United States president. So we've got to get the questions and I can't wait to ask them. Well, and I think this is the important point because luckily the hand of God, by the grace of God, this assassination failed. But Congressman, what if it had been successful? What does the world look like today? People need to understand if that 20-something year old kid is successful, how that really would impact their lives. There would be profound implications throughout the world and I don't think people, I mean, it's hard to grasp it, but you talk about faith and confidence in the government, faith in people out there and you know how people could be with believing what they want to believe. I mean, it's chaos would ensue. You can't have that happen in America. Absolutely not. And whether you're a Democrat or Republican, you've got to have that security to protect the leader of the free world. And I'll tell you this, you know, I've been with the president a good bit. New Year's Eve, I was at Mar-Largo with him New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. There were 700 people at Mar-Largo. I'm sitting with the president and had a great conversation and he said, "What are your concerns?" I said, "Sir, there are 700 people here at Mar-Largo." I said, "They checked my ID to get in." I said, "Then you've got a red carpet and not one bag was checked. 600 of these people, he could identify about name. A hundred of them, he probably didn't know who they were, but I'm telling you right now, this cannot happen. You've got to have sufficient security." And this is the other thing is, even after they're president, you've got to secure them. And I'll be honest with you, now they know that the odds are he has a high probability he speaks to be the next president. The security that was on him in Pennsylvania, I don't care what they say, that right there was second and third tier secret service, unable to holster their weapons. Not sure where to go. SUV sits way too long. The heavens is standing wide open to the crowd when he's walking off. Someone five foot six trying to cover a large body mass. Unacceptable. And then when he comes into the convention the first night, it looked a little bit more like it. Six, six, two, forty-five, able to cover up if they've got to, but I'm just telling you, anybody with walking around since saw that there was something missing in Pennsylvania. Our hope is, is to get to the bottom of it. And I'll tell you the calls that have come related to that have been unbelievable saying here are questions that should be asked. But if we have to put privacy on Donald Trump, let's don't look back. Let's do it today. And that's one thing I did. We talked to folks right there around him and that's the thing. You've got to put private security on him. Do that because we've got to get him across the line. I mean, you think about talking about that. I mean, it sounds like you've lost a little bit of faith in the secret service to do his job. Well, you know, this is the thing. I think there's two standards that the American people have seen. One standard for the Democrats and another standard for the Republicans. Unacceptable, totally unacceptable. But we've got to make just now, even before this select committee gets rolling, like we were talking last night, put folks that you know can protect him. Don't look back and say, man, we should have had some people taller. We should have had people heavier, people that could care somebody out if they are incapacitated. That was the biggest thing that I noticed on TV. Number one, when he got hit, you're sitting there thinking, okay, where is the shot hit? You knew there was blood there. You knew when they were down behind the podium. Thank God, you know, just no CPR was going on. Secret service was communicated with him. And then all of a sudden, whenever they stood up, another breach because he squared up to the crowd and didn't have cover in front of him. And then all of a sudden, you're sitting here and you're thinking, are more shots coming? Going down the stage, open again, then he gets into the limousine and hello and behold, it sits there for how long. I mean, it just seemed like a week to me because I was thinking, they've got to get moving. They've got to get out of there. But thank God, there weren't other participants. And we dodged a horrific situation for our nation. There's no doubt. Well, and then finally, we're wrapping up on this. I mean, tonight will probably be the most watched speech in the history of presidential conventions, of any political party. Well, what do you, what's your anticipation there? I mean, we talked a little bit about it off air, but what do you, what really would bring it home for the RNC, you think? Well, I think the biggest thing is that this country know what's at stake. Number two, the value of everyone showing up to vote. The next thing, protecting the integrity of this election. You know, people, you know, they tag you. These liberal media outlets, and they say, oh, he doesn't believe in the election. I don't believe that this day Joe Biden got 80 million votes. That's just my opinion. So what we've got to do is be sure that we've got poll watchers everywhere. You know, you look at it, it's funny. They say that in Alabama, we're 51st in math. But the one thing you can, Alabama, you'll know all 67 counties and how the votes turned out, usually by about 9.45 or 10 o'clock. We've got some states that can't get it worked out in three or four days. That's unacceptable. And they could learn a lot from our Secretary of State and these southern states because of how it works. But tonight, the big thing is, is people understand what is at stake. Donald Trump speaks to bring a defining moment in his life, this speech tonight. And I think we're fixed to do is we're fixed to watch. The Christians get off the sideline. They're headed to vote. We're fixed to watch this country. It's going to be the biggest turnout in the history of our country. And so that's what we want. We want people to come out and vote. The other thing that we're fixing to probably hear in the next day or two is where Joe Biden today, every day changes. What you've seen on TV is not something new. The first week I was in Washington, I was in the group of 20 freshmen, including Katie Barrett, invited to meet with the president. He didn't know where he was that night. He was looking for a teleprompter. This is nothing new. The media has covered it up. It has progressively got worse every day. I'm over there. I've been to the White House. And I'm telling you right now what the rest of the country is seeing is what we've seen for 17, 18 months. Congress, you've got to leave it there. You're very kind to come on and talk to our audience down here in South Alabama. Let's talk again soon. We'll see you to see all of y'all soon at the beach. Talk to you later. All right. Congressman Dale Strong there from North Alabama. We got to get a break here. We'll be right back. This is effing talk. 1-0-6-5 1-0-6-5 They're sticking around on what's left of this Thursday morning. We certainly do appreciate it. Come up tomorrow on the program. Todd Stacey, Alabama Daily News. State Senator Chris Elliott, a returning champion. And we'll have some other guests. One other guest, at least, to be named later. But things are kind of always fluid, so you never know what you're going to get. Come up here shortly. Midday mobile shots. What you got for them today? Jeff, a mix of things. Guest wise, John Sharp's going to join me later in the noon hour. Dale Leish in the 1 o'clock hour. So John with Dale.com Dale with Lanyap. And in the beginning, we're going to circle the wagons here on a... Maybe you can do this. You have a building science degree, right? I do. Okay. So building science degree. I have no degree in it, but I've repaired and put on one roof new and repaired several roofs in my life. Two on twelve. Slope. Two on twelve slope. That's darn near just enough to get the rain to run off, right? Yeah. Okay. All right. We're going to discuss that as Cheetos, you know, using that as... I mean, just say it's my fault the buck stops with me. Okay, stop right there. Don't go on and say, "Well, here, the rope. It was too slopey. It was too slopey." Give me a break. Really? The other news, the streak remains intact, which 20 years, 20 years of no nappy. Which I think is actually harder than winning a nappy. So I think you, uh, you should be proud of your streak. This is my 20th year writing for those guys. And I have now have multiple chances to fall far from one. Still no doubt. Well, I'm getting the Susan Lucci and the nappies. I got you out of here. It's been a pleasure guys. We'll do better tomorrow. Sorry, folks. I forgot to say goodbye. [music] (upbeat music)
