’Oye Primos!’ is still moving forward on Disney Channel, despite backlash over the show leaning into racist tropes and people being annoyed by the voice actress of the lead character. However, it’s coming without much fanfare. Are they contractually obligated to just dump it on the platform? ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishTV.com ➡️ Audio Edition: https://open.spotify.com/show/6qJc5C6OkQkaZnGCeuVOD1 About Us: Clownfish TV is an independent, opinionated news and commentary channel that covers Entertainment and Tech from a consumer’s point of view. (upbeat music) (upbeat music) Hey guys, welcome back to clownfish TV. This is Neon, I am here with Giki Sparkles. - Hello. - And we're gonna talk about a missing Disney cartoon show. It has been found, good news everybody. Good news, Primos is not dead. We found it, it's getting a premiere sometime in July. I guess, I gotta give a hat tip to Mr. Milo who posted this on Pirates and Princesses and yeah, there's been an update on this show, it was very controversial. We're gonna talk about some of the controversy around this show and I feel like they were just laying low to let this die down. - It's weird, they never explained where it went. Like they like scrubbed it off of information pages and stuff and now it's suddenly popped back up. It's very strange. - So the exact same thing happened with high guardian spice. They made a big deal, that high guardian spice, there was all kinds of internet outrage. It disappeared for like two or three years and then at the very end, when they were selling crunchy roll to Sony, they just like dropped it for contractual reasons. - I'm saying it's probably contractual. - It's probably contractual, they probably had it done and they're like, "Oh, we gotta drop this stuff." 'Cause they're, what they're talking about more than Primos is potentially doing more gravity falls, finius and furb, going back to the tried and true shows, right? Non-divisive, guaranteed money in the bank shows and then they're probably like, "Oh yeah, crap, "we got this thing we've been sittin' on for, you know, "how many years." But we're gonna talk about it. Before we get into it any further, please subscribe for more pop culture news views in Rance, guys. You get woo-hoo if you do. So we gotta walk it back here. There were calls for boycotts of Oy Primos. We've got a whole page on Know Your Meme. It became a meme about a year ago, two years ago. - It was a while back. So they said it's done by Natasha Klein, who said her childhood experiences, it was based on her childhood experiences with her extended multicultural Mexican American family. And there was a whole thing about how even the title is grammatically incorrect. And then we had the star of the show, the voice actress going on the bender, I remember that. She was talking about how-- - Colonizers. - The colonizers from Spain forced their language on the Mexican people. And they're talking about how, yeah. Why the theme song upset people? They said, "Yeah." They said, "Oi Primos, Oy is singular, Primos is plural." Other issues people have with the trailer were the names of the various cousins, which range from Nacho to Gordita, which just means fatty. Is that why I don't have Gordita's at Taco Bell anymore? - I don't know. - I hate that he become Gordita. Yeah, but they're fat, they're big fat tacos. They're great. - I actually like them. - So greasy. It's not to be outdone one of the other cousins, a female cousin was given the name Cucita, which is, which is Evolva. - Oh. - So that'd be like naming your kid little badge or something. - Oh my God. - Hot list. - Is that for something, no. - The music ain't Mexican. Full houses don't exist anymore. The same name is like naming USA Town 911 Hills. The names, why does it look like Breaking Bad? Yeah, it looked, it looked really bleak. Other issues taken up by critics include yeah, the town of Teramoto, which means earthquake, which is considered insensitive due to countries like Mexico and Chile's history with devastating earthquake. So it's earthquake, ville and little badge and fatty. (laughing) This should be an adult swim. Anyway, lots of reasons. And then of course, the voice actress, she wouldn't keep her mouth shut. Yeah, I remember this. Smug, just God, she was so smug. Is it Murna Velusco? She was the voice of actress of the main character posted an Instagram story where she responded to allegations of unintentional grammatical errors on the show and she basically said, "Yeah, Spanish isn't even native to South America. "The colonizers forced it on our people." - Yeah, right there, you have the quote go up. The Spanish language is not a Latin American language. It's a language that Spanish conquistadors forced upon Latin American people. The other reason we're Latin people, not native American people is because of that distinction. So be mad at me all you want for misplaying words in Spanish. Be mad at me of all you want for mispronouncing words in Spanish that doesn't take away from the fact that I'm a Mexican American, native American woman. We're trying to make a good show for kids, for kids that feel left out, for kids that are different, for kids that don't have a full grasp on any language, no matter where they live, but not kids that actually speak that language. And if you're going to be mad at that, I don't know, be mad then. - Yeah, she wasn't so smug about it, she would actually have a point, 'cause so my family, my, and I mentioned before, my stepdad, his family's from Mexico, and my brothers, I guess, would be half, half Latenka Bell, is that what we're-- - No, we're not using that word. - But we didn't speak Spanish in the house very often. I mean, some words here and there, but we really didn't speak Spanish in the house very often. Sometimes those relatives, they didn't speak Spanish either, come and think of it. Now, his grandparents had, you know, they were hard to understand sometimes, but like his mom spoke fluent English and, you know, so it was like we just didn't, you know, and even when we got together with the families and stuff, it was like, we lived in California, we didn't really, so I mean, I can understand to that, you know what I'm saying? Like, I can get it, but she was so damn smug. She was so damn smug, but yeah, they're calling for a boycott of that. - Is that about any of the mistakes? It's because it's colonizers. - The colonizers, anyway, the show's not dead, Mr.-- July 25th. - Yeah, so-- - Does that have any cultural significance? - I don't know, so it's gonna be-- - It's Christmas in July, everybody, you're getting cold. - It was first, it was supposed to be out this month, and that disappeared. - Yes. - So they said it's coming out on Thursday, July 25th at 8 p.m. on the Disney Channel, or at least on Disney+ the next day. - I think they're gonna dump it on Disney Channel, 'cause they're not making like a big deal about it. - Well, Disney Channel is probably gonna be watch-- - Nobody watches Disney Channel. It's the, yeah, the viewership's in the gutter right now. And then he talks about, you know, what we just talked about with the different controversies, and the actress, and the wording, how it was-- - Yeah, yeah. - And basically, it's a Loud House knockoff. - It is Loud House. - So, yeah, it was supposed to be out June 6th, and it disappeared. They said it was scrubbed from the Disney PR page, and then people thought it was scrapped and written off, and then, oh, the surprise! - Surprise! - Coming out the end of July, coming out less than a month. - They're gonna drop it. They're gonna drop a, drop a tater on us all on Disney Channel, which nobody watches. - It's not dropping of all of us, so we're good. - It's dropping of all of us. So, there we go. It's coming out. Yeah, they had it on Animation Magazine, and I don't know. I think, honestly, God think they were just waiting for the controversy to die down, and then they were just gonna drop it, but I don't expect, I mean, I could be wrong. I don't expect for them to promote this one heavily. I think they're just gonna drop it, and yeah, okay, we did it, and then that's it. Then walk away from it. Unless it's a massive hit, which I don't see happening. - I really doubt that, highly. - Yeah, so we are wrap it up. - Yep. - Please subscribe for more pop culture, news, views, and rants, guys. We'll talk later. - Bye! (upbeat music) (upbeat music) - Thanks again for listening. More news and videos are available on our website at www.clownfishtv.com, and on our YouTube channel, ClownfishTV.
