This is neon. I am here with geeky sparkles. Hello. And it's time for another daily dose of dismal Disney. We're going to talk about Disney renaming Jeanie Plus to Lightning Lane or... Yeah, so Lightning Lane originally was when you wanted to pay an individual single rider lane. Now that's the name of the whole program. And it's basically FastPass Plus, but you know, you pay more. Keep track of it. It was FastPass Plus was free. FastPass Plus plus plus minus your money. We're going to talk about this. Yeah, this is really confusing. And it sounds like basically any more, the hundred plus dollars that you pay to get into the Disney theme park is just a cover charge. If you want to actually ride the new rides, you're going to have to pay extra. You're going to have to pay extra. Okay, get a virtual cue. You're going to have to pay. Yeah, and that's the Disney way now. And this is why people are checking out. You know, it's not because they're Disney haters and you hate Disney. It's like, no, Disney is not a good value for the money. A lot of people angry about this. Apparently you sent me an article from the New York Post. We'll talk about that. We'll talk about some reactions on Twitter. Yeah, so before you end today further, please subscribe for more pop culture news views and rants guys. You get woo-hoo if you do. All right, so walk us through lightning lane. Okay, so they change a name from Jenny Plus to lightning lane now. And basically what they're doing is they're letting you pick three rides like you do with FastPass Plus. They're tiered like they were the FastPass Plus, depending on which park you're at. With this, you get that. You get to make your selections. I think it's 30 days ahead if you're at the park, if you're staying on property. If you're not staying on property, it's just a few days ahead and by then everything's taken. And it's really going to screw over the annual pass holders, most likely. They keep doing that. They want the security of having annual pass holder money, but they keep screwing over the annual pass holders. Exactly. They keep making as they can't come to the parks and different things. And then on select attractions, you get your photos of the day too with this. So that's what the Jenny Plus was is now lightning lane. Now, you get these multi-pass experiences and you're going to take a look at that. Okay, so we're going to look at different parks and see what they are. But they are tiered like they were the FastPass Plus, but FastPass Plus was free. So for your payment of your Jenny Plus, which is now lightning lane, so your basic three rides. I think after you- My head hurts, my head hurts already. After you ride a ride, you can pick another one just so you know. Okay. So the top tier attractions you can choose from are Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan's Flight, Space Mountain, or surprisingly Tiana's Bayou Adventure, when it's not broken down. Works. Yeah. The other two experiences, or you can choose all three, are the Barn Store, Buzz Lightyear, Dumbo, Haunted Mansion, Small World Tea Parties, Carpets for Latin, when the poo for just poo, Fill Heart Magic, Laugh Floor, Pirates of Caribbean, the Tomorrowland Speedway, or the Journey to the Little Mermaid. Those ones you can pick. If you want to ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Tron-like cycle run, you have to buy a lightning lane single pass for those. You can, of course, still stand by line for Seven Dwarfs, and I think Tron is still virtual queued right now. I think it is. So you can still try for that. And if you don't get that, you have to pay. So basically, you pay $100 plus dollars to get into the park, and then you get to ride a couple of things. You're probably going to pay a couple hundred dollars more to get your genie plus. To actually be able to ride the things you want to ride. If you wanted these single pass lines, yes. Because I think, like, depending on the park, it was, I don't know how much it was averaging, but let's say your genie, oh, I'm sorry, lightning lane was $15. Well, they get $20 a person. That's like average in the middle, and we'll do that way so it gets easier to math. You have four people that's 80 bucks. So if you paid $120, I think the lowest ticket price is $120-ish. I don't like to get in. Then you have your $80 for your genie plus, so you're talking $200. Say you want to ride, Tron Lightsick will run, you couldn't get a virtual queue. You want to get, so you have to get the single pass for those, and say, it's like, we'll save $10. I don't know what it is. I'm talking about it. So that's another $40. You're talking like, instead of paying $120 to get in the park, you've doubled, your money, of how much it costs you to get in the park to be able to ride things. Yeah, so that's what I'm trying to get across to people. I mean, on no planet is Disney. Disney's never been a good value in terms of cheapness, right? But at least you could justify the cost because you made the memories there, and it was fun or whatever. This doesn't even sound fun. This doesn't even sound enjoyable. It's so convoluted. And it sounds like, again, it's almost like a raffle ticket. You're paying admission to get into the park for the chance to possibly maybe ride something. No, their argument is you are still allowed to go to standby lines, except for, I think, Toronto, just virtual queue. The rest of them, you can still go to standby lines and wait in line. And you can't. And you're going to have to, because you're only getting three at a time. The problem with that is, though, and I mentioned this before, like with FastPass Plus, that was the same thing. But and they would let more FastPass Plus people throughout a time than they would standby. So if they would let 30 FastPass Plus people through the standby line, they might let 20. Okay. Now what they're doing with the, well, the lightning lane now is they would let like 50 lightning lane people through for every like 10 standby line people. So the lines are longer because they're trying to force you into buying the lightning lane, which was GD Plus. Yeah, it's just, it's insane. Well, we'll look at the other parks too. So that was Magic Kingdom. EPCOT is going to be your top tier is frozen ever after Rami is rather to adventure or soaring around the world. Your other two to three experiences can be Disney and Pixar short film festival. Oh boy. Showing into imagination with figment, living with the land, mission space, the seas with Nemo and friends, spaceship earth and turtle talk with crush. So pretty much, well, the three cabo years that the Grand Fiesta Tour is not on here. I'm sure some other things aren't on here. Test check is not on here because it's shut down. If you want to pay for the single pass, you it's for guardians cosmic rewind. That's also virtual queue. So your two options are virtual queue. If you can't virtual queue, you have to pay for the lightning lane. And some people just pay it because they're like, I don't want the dick. We're trying to get a virtual queue. But this used to be fast pass and it was included, right? Fast possible was always included. Yes. Yeah. And then you basically and they started doing that because they wanted people to schedule their time out. But it was the thing is, when you pay over $100 to get into the theme park, you just assume you're going to be able to ride the rides or at least some of the rides or most of the rides. That's why I try to distress people. They're like, you know, oh, we're just going to go and have a chill time like we used to. You can't. You cannot. It is. It is a logistics nightmare. Like if you want to ride everything, you need a plan, you have to everything figured out. You know where you're going, what you're you have to have stuff scheduled. It's just the way it is. And if you don't know what you're doing, you're not going to get to ride jack crap. I don't know what you pay for extra for this. You have a ride called jack crap. There you go. Just like for all the people that aren't willing to pay to ride the good rides, you can ride jack crap. There you go. It's like a push cart by the dumpsters out back at Epcot. I'm surprised you're at charge people put their food on on garbage cans. Go ahead. There's other ones. We didn't do other parks yet. Oh my God. So there's those two. Okay. Hollywood Studios is the top tier Mickey and Minnie's runaway railway. William fucking smugglers run. Rock 'em with a coaster. Slinky dog dash. Which I'm surprised. I'm surprised Slinky dog dash is actually because that one's always busy. I mean, if I had a choice of them, then when I pick on their Slinky dog dash, Mickey and Minnie's move quickly. Falcon is if you want to ride that one, you might want to use it that or Slinky dog because they the only in Falcon is to put many people on at a time. So it takes a while. The other two or three experiences are aliens pulling saucers, beating the beast live on stage. Oh boy. Junior playing dance frozen sing along. India Jones epics tons spectacular. That's stupid because they take a bunch of people at once. There's no reason to use it on that. Muppa Vision 3D star tours the Twilight Zone Tower, Terror and Toystar Mania. Of course, rise of the resistance you have to pay for or you can just stand by. Again, if it's working because that seems to be an ongoing issue. And animal kingdom, they don't have any top tier. You just have your choice of three, dinosaur, expedition, Everest, feathered friends in flight, festival, Lion King, Finding Nemo with Big Blue and Beyond. It's tough to be at bug. Call your verapids. Kilimanjaro Safari is Navi River Journey. And of course, if you want to pay, you pay for Avatar Flight of Passage. I don't even know what to say. Like, like, look, if you've been listening to this channel, to this show for a long time, you know, we've definitely kind of soured on Disney. But like, it's so depressing because we used to love going. It was such a big part of our lives. Now, it's just a shameless cash grab. I mean, it always was, but it's even more blatant now. And it's not even fun. You know, it's not even fun. And you're gonna, you could theoretically drop five to $10,000 on a Disney vacation and not get to do crap. You know, unless you, you, you pay for extras. You pay to have them suck off your wallet, but you don't get any fun from it. I mean, you get some fun, but it's not as fun as other things. Oh my God. That's, that's going to be the new, the new rides, I was a hot to a, like to a ride. Oh, no, no. Anyway, Disney's, no, Disney's going to buy that. It's going to be, it's not just going to be Disney's. No, magical. That's, that's, um, that's the feathered friends in flight. No, no, no. So let's, let's talk about, yeah, this, yeah. So orange and orange for the sub, which I thought was pretty funny. Eisner creates fast pass. Eisner creates Eiger. Eiger creates Chapek. Chapek destroys fast pass. Actually, that's not true. Eiger destroyed fast. I'm sure Chapek was involved because he was in charge of parks, but Eiger was CEO of the company and green lit it. And that they made a big deal D23 in 2019. This was coming. So this was completely Eiger. Eiger destroys Chapek. Eiger creates fast pass. It's a circle of life, guys. A circle of life. Um, and death because a lot of people I think are noping out because it's just, it's, it's their price and people out, but we've gotten to a place where, like, look, it's, it's very clear that Disney was not for everybody. It was very expensive. Um, but now it's not even, it's not even sane. Basically, they're just gouging people that are just, apparently you've got like the life's infinite money code turned on because I'm sitting here looking at this like, you know, I can imagine somebody making six figures even looking at the prices and being like, hell no. Hell no. That's too expensive. Yeah, that's way too expensive. It's too expensive. People can't afford it. It's like, you know, you buy overpriced food and medication or you go to the Disney parks and pay a bunch of upcharges to maybe ride something. Yeah, it's like, yeah, good luck, good luck with that because we're seeing fast food restaurants walk it back now. McDonald's has their five dollar value meals or whatever. Yeah, because they're trying to, because you used to have actual value meals and now they are values and they don't have it lately. The dollar menu. Remember that long ago, it's more than two dollars, but yeah, they're walking it back because people can't afford it. But to be fair, the cost of food goes up. So I'm sure it costs them a lot more too. Like I'm almost saying, if she went to a restaurant there, do they always go to? And where it normally wouldn't have cost them more like 25 bucks, she might that maybe out to give them that much. The same things they always ordered end up being over 33 dollars. And they're just like, it's just huge increase in price. You're not getting it. Nothing's changed. It's all the same. Same size and everything. But more expensive because food prices are way more expensive. Yeah, which I mean, I get, I get to a certain degree, but I'm like, I mean, this is just, you know, Disney is outpacing inflation. Inflation's through the roof right now. But Disney is just, they just keep looking for more and more. And this is the problem when you have a mega corporation like Disney. And we talked about this before that the theme parks are basically picking up the slack for when they fail at the box office. And unrelated, but kind of related what you're saying over here, Marvel Studios is going to come back to San Diego Comic Con for 2024. Of course they are. And they have a D23 event this year. So they're going back because nobody gives a shit about Marvel. And I guarantee you they're trying to push. They're going to try to push the Thunderbolts and Captain America because nobody cares. Yeah, the only thing people are talking about is Deadpool Wolverine, which to be to be fair, Wolverine's mask looks really good. I can't believe it took him 25 years to get to that point, but like to actually put him in his comic book costume took 25 years. I just happened to see that. And I was like, speaking of which. But yeah, so people were mad about it. This New York Post article is talking about how everybody's they're just upset because we're like, is it only was a name for this? It was called FastPass Plus. Yeah, it was free. We just basically just went around in a circle and came back to just charging people for FastPass. And but now it's infinitely more confusing. You know, they said they're talking about how under the genie plus system that was introduced just three years ago, guests are forced to log into a site each morning and perhaps sponsor eyes. Yeah, it's fun. I've done it. That's fun. Yeah, we've we've actually gotten up at like six o'clock in the morning to try to get restaurant reservations and ride reservations. And it's like, yeah, this is a great vacation. We're getting up earlier than we would for work, you know. Yeah, I know, right? We made guests grapping back, getting up at seven. No, we get before that. So as soon as it would roll over, we would actually be in the parks. I remember the one trip right before the pandemic, when they just opened Star Wars. Yeah, that's when you had to with riser's assistance, you had to be in the park to make the virtual key reservation. We were walking in the dark at like five 30 in the morning from our hotel, because we were at the the boardwalk. We're walking over to Hollywood studios five 30 in the morning, hoping that God, we didn't get eaten by an alligator. Oh my gosh, it wasn't that bad. I mean, it was a walking patch all the time. I know, I know, but but I'm just saying like it was weird. So yeah, so we did this before. We did like the run Disney events and stuff, but it was weird to be there that early. It was still dark. And then I remember just like sitting around and we're waiting for it to hit seven o'clock so we can get on the ride. And I knew what to do because I had seen people do it. So I knew to go to a different part of the park because everybody was gathered in the same place trying to go buy the the traction. And the thing is, if you go everybody else's, you can't get signal. So I went to the other place that I knew I could get signal. We were talking about anybody around. We got right in because everybody else couldn't get it because they were losing signal. And actually everything worked that day. I think that was the only time that we'd ridden it that everything was working. When everything's working, it's worth going at least once. I think it's pretty. I love the steam, the walkers, but it's really better if it was original trilogy. But anyway, people were talking about, they're very upset about it. So keep going down. They said that they said that both rising booked the advance through the multi pass system, which we mentioned, they're talking about different places. They said Disney want visitors paid extra 15 per ride for Gini plus with Disneyland page 20. That was originally that they were set their flat rates. They are now varied rates. I hate that. I hate that so much. They get more money that way. Yeah. So basically, let's talk about everything we talked about already, but go down and they show you some people's comments. They don't even let you pick three ones. They have different tiers to pick from. It's trash. That was a fast pass, but at least you weren't paying for fast. You know what I'm saying? It was included with the price of the ticket. So even if it was trash, at least it was like, well, I can't get on mind train, but we can go do, you know, Buzz Light Year or something, right? Because, you know, that's the way it was. It was fast. It was free. So you're just like, you know, this weight line, you get what you can get. Keep going down. I think there's more comments on here. They're just saying, still charge you or something that used to be free. So is it like how fast pass was, but now you pay for it? Yes. That's exactly what it is. This is really going to screw a pass orders because they won't be made spots left for APs because, yeah, the way they're doing it, people that aren't staying on property are going to have whatever's left over. Yeah. So this is what it is. Yeah. People are not happy. I didn't see the comments on it, but yeah. The changes designed to enable guests to do more of their planning before theme park day. Personally, I do not want a vacation that requires more planning. Yes. And the moon landing. Disney Land was such a wonderful place back in 81 to no crowds, few lines. Everyone happy not even that long ago. Because we've been covering Disney for years. I mean, we started our Disney podcast over 10 years ago. And we had a Disney blog, a different Disney blog than the one that Giki is running now. But we did this pretty much for our living. And even back then, it wasn't a logistical nightmare. Like you could just show up and get on most things you wanted to ride. If you knew where to go right now, they've just made it impossible and it costs twice. And some people, they swear they will not pay for Gini Plus no matter what those guys, except, you know, they'll get on the attractions they want by just waiting in line or doing it, planning it out well. And for some people, you can if you know what you're doing. But most people, it's not really going to happen. There's a time when those visitors go deep into debt to visit a Disney park, more and more families are just not going to go to them anymore. Yeah. And the parks have jacked up food prices way beyond inflation. Exactly. Just keep doing things like this, I'm sure everything will work out fine. Yeah. So it's, I mean, like a lot of people and some of the people who are complaining, I'm going to be honest, a lot of people are complaining, actually, they just hate Disney. They don't, it doesn't, it doesn't have anything because they're not customers. They never really were customers are like, well, back when I went in 1975, that was the last time I set foot in a Disney park. I'm like, well, then you were there, like back when they were doing tickets. Yeah, it's like a totally different thing. Here's one person. Hey, they're hardworking family have paid 450 just getting to, I'm assuming Disney World, they mean like one of the parks. Yeah. Just what, just wait 85 minutes in line for your concert where I had tough luck and be waiting for more because that overpaid non-contributing zero just hand it Mickey and I'll just see a note. Yeah, pretty much. I mean, that's it. Screw Disney go to universal better rides and hotels. A lot of people are looking at universal now. Here's the thing though, I'm super excited about universal. I'm super excited about dark universe. I'm very excited about dark universe. I also know that the stuff is not cheap. And I don't expect universal prices to stay down forever. Well, I don't think, I mean, they are down and they do a lot of times by like a ticket get one free type situation. But where they get you though is like, if you want to, they're like, we're, they're talking about the lighting lane and it might be like $20 or whatever. It's much more expensive at universal. I will say that, but there's a couple caveats with that. One, because it's so expensive, not many people use it. So it's actually worth the money. You actually are going to get to the front of the line fast or get through faster. Where now you're getting to the front of the line, but you're just still going to wait a long line for the front of the line. Two, it's pretty much on all the rides, not just like this one, select few. You can use it pretty much everywhere. So it's a lot more expensive. It's, it's almost as much as a ticket a lot of times, but you get to, if you do want to go that route and some hotels, the hotels there, you'll get it included. It's worth it for that reason because you're not going to have the competition. You do a G plus because what's happening now is like with FastPass Plus, I told you before, if you let so many people in, G plus is much worse. So you're going to be, what G plus, you're going to be waiting in the line. You would have been waiting in as a standby line before and the standby line is going to be there forever. So I'm just telling you, I mean, it's just, it is what it is. Like, I mean, you can, you can get in the door at Disney. Basically, the ticket is the, the, the over $100 to get in the door is just to get in the gate. It's a cover charge. If you want to actually do anything and actually get the ride everything, you're going to have to pay extra now. I mean, this is how it works. But I'm also like, why don't you just like charge less at the gate and then just charge more for the rides and people will ride what they want. A lot of, a lot of theme parks, you know, they have books of tickets, Disney used to do books of tickets. You know, they could do that, but it's just, it's insane. It's not even fun. It's not even, you know, it's, it is what it is guys. This is modern Disney. So we're going to wrap this up. Yeah. Please subscribe for more pop culture news, views and rants. We'll talk later. Bye.
