Welcome back to clownfish TV. This is Neon. I am here with Geeky Sparkles. - Hello. - And it's time for another daily dose of dismal Disney. We're gonna talk about Disney fans acting in a dismal way on social media. I have to laugh. I saw some tweets yesterday. I'm not gonna pull up those tweets. I don't wanna put a target on a person that made these tweets, but they were angry that people were comparing Epic Universe to some of Disney's more notable failures, in particular the disco Yeti. They said that Universal is trolling Disney and it's very unprofessional for them to be trolling Disney that the ride should stand on its own that they should not make fun of Disney at all. - Yeah, we're gonna explain that a little more here. We're gonna explain some more in a bit. We're gonna explain this rivalry and this has been going on since the very beginning. Universal and Disney are rivals and a lot of people working at Universal right now used to work for Disney. A lot of people working, well, DreamWorks literally started by former Disney people. - Yes. - So this is nothing new. Shrek was a parody of Disney movies. So many examples, and we're gonna pull up some other examples in the Universal theme parks. They are constantly making fun of Disney and a lot of times, a lot of times, imagine years, jumped from Disney to Universal theme parks and it shows because you wonder where all the creativity went, you know? They took the creativity with them, in my opinion. So we're gonna talk about this. Before you do a day further, please subscribe for more pop culture news, views and rants, guys, you'll get a woohoo if you do. So yeah, we have to talk about this. We did a video the other day reacting to Epic Universe and the new Universal Monsters Land, which dark universe, which is freaking awesome. And I guess a bone of contention for some Disney fans was the Wolfman amatronic that they showed. - Right, now remember I said it looked like the Yeti from Expedition Everest. - Yes. - And that's what I said, it turns out that's pretty much exactly what they're trying to do with it. - Yeah, they did not show a full on view of the Wolfman, but people are like, oh my God, it's lit even like the Yeti. So for those of you who don't go to Disney parks or who haven't been on Expedition Everest, the TLDR version is they have a very high tech and metronic of the Yeti on the ride that's supposed to swipe at you. - Yeah, originally it would move its arm over you. - Right, and now it doesn't. It just kind of, it doesn't do anything. It doesn't take over anything. - It doesn't, it's static now. Now they said that there's different versions of what's wrong with it, but from my understanding, they had to stop moving him because it was actually, the structure of the ride was taking damage from him moving and they'd have to pretty much tear the whole thing apart from the top of the mountain off to fix him, which is why he hasn't been fixed. That's my understanding of it, I don't know if that's what happened, but that's what I've been told. - Yeah, and they've promised to fix the Yeti for years and they haven't done it. And I'm gonna tell you the truth, I think what's probably gonna happen because Bob Iger made comments about Expedition Everest just being some generic coaster. If they decide to fix Expedition Everest, they're gonna fix it by taking the Yeti out of it and putting IP in there. - Probably, well they'll make it the Yeti from like, you know, Monster Zink or something. - Probably over. - But it's just trying to hand you a snow cone. - Pissing your mouth. - I just tell you it's raining. - The reason they call it Disco Yeti is and they now to make it look like it's moving 'cause you go by it so quickly, they flash lights, like a strobe lights to make it look like it's moving. And they're fans on it so that the tear moves and stuff. That thing is freakin' scary as hell when you see it. 'Cause somebody, we had talked about before they broke into Expedition Everest, it's one of our other videos. And they got up to the Yeti and took video of its face and everything, I can't, just thinking about it and it increased me the hell out. But yeah, they flashed lights on it to make it look like it's moving hence the name, Disco Yeti. - Disco Yeti. - But it's been like an ongoing joke for what, 20, 30 years now that the Yeti's broken. - 20 years, yeah, it's been, you know. - Almost 20 years. - I mean, well since it opened, it was only working for like a year or two and then they shot it down, didn't it? - Yeah. - It wasn't long, it was all free. - No, wasn't that long. There are, I guess, a couple of ride-throughs, like early ride-throughs that people have where it's actually working, but yeah. It hasn't worked for most of the attractions. Kind of like the, in Hollywood, the footlight parade in the great movie ride. - Oh yeah, yeah, the two of them know that used to work. I remember when that worked. - Yeah, and I have to wonder like how many of the amatronics in Tiana's Bayou adventure were gonna be the same way where they like, they worked for the first couple months or whatever and then they just gave up on it and they're like, yeah, hell of it. - But the thing is, the footlight parade, it wasn't, I don't know, I mean, yeah, they moved somewhat but it's like not like the Tiana stuff should move. And it's not even open to the public. Tiana's Bayou Adventure isn't open to the public yet for another few days, 28th, I wanna say. And the animatronics aren't working. There's video after video after video of the animatronics just frozen. - Yeah, yeah, it's pretty sad. So anyway, it's, God, just, it's so weird to see this that kind of, I guess, the copium from Disney fans that they're legitimately angry. It's like, I'm sorry, guys, all the creativity is going to universal. And a lot of these people worked at Disney. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me at all if people working on Dark Universe didn't work on Animal Kingdom back in the day. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we found out that people who worked on the Yeti are actually working on the Wolfman. - It wouldn't surprise me there. I'm not saying that's the case, I don't know. - No, no, I'm just saying. If you look at, 'cause originally what happened with Universal was Disney laid a bunch of Imagineers off and they went to Universal and they built islands of adventure and they built Harry Potter. And these were people that used to work for Disney. So you wonder why Disney's not bringing it like they used to. Well, a lot of the people that were bringing it is over, they're over at Universal. - People that, they're mandating. They have so many things that basically you can't have, anything to that and spend somebody to place it sanitized and it's boring. And then these people are going to be doing the expansions. I'm like, that's just, that's great. But like, okay, back to the point. They're like, oh, they're mad 'cause they're making fun of the Yeti. Everybody makes fun of the Yeti. It's been a long running joke that the Yeti doesn't work. So at that argument, then Universal, how dare they unprofessional 'cause they're copying. Okay, so any place that, any theme park ever that done something like this sense is copying Disney. Any theme park ever, oh my God. They're going to add a fifth gate to Universal or a fourth gate to Universal. So if Disney announces a fifth gate, Disney's copying from Universal, oh my God. This is stupid. - Yeah, so here, here's-- - Here's the thing ridiculous. - Here's the tweet. And again, I do not want to put a target on this person, so I'm not going to, I'll read the tweet, but I'm not going to show the tweet. The decision to light the promo, exactly how the Yeti promo was seemingly intentional. - Yes, it was intentional. - It was, of course it was. - My first thought was it was the Yeti and I didn't even like only catch it there having the clips of it. - Yeah, it makes me wonder if Universal thinks there's a net positive to fueling this us versus them cultural war of trolling and social media meme culture versus standing out on their own merit and instead impressing guests with immersive original storytelling. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. He's saying that Universal isn't doing immersive, you know, original storytelling. As Disney is deleting everything and I peeing the shit out of it at their parks and they're doing things like, we're doing another stage show and cheap ass, they just reskinned Splash Mountain. And then that's all they did. And then they're like, and they're going to reskin test track or anything else. But wait, they're not doing original storytelling. - They're using the Universal monsters, which are like one of Universal's oldest IP, right? So this, you know what I'm saying? But it's still they're doing something original. No, I'm telling you, all the good imagineers went to Universal years ago because Disney kicked him into the curb. - Well, I'm so glad that Disney's been doing so much original things like, you know, Gallart Guardians of the Galaxy, I guess it's Marvel, but, you know, and then they have Avatar and all this other stuff. They're using their own already too. So I don't understand what the problem is. - Oh, you're copying the Yeti. Well, so what? So a lot of other people, Disney copy. Hey, meanwhile, we're talking about professionalism. I remember when Hagrid's motorbike adventure opened, all right? - Mm-hmm. - And they had like a 10-hour wait because it had issues and stuff. Like everything I always opens has issues. Look at Splash Mountain, how many times it broke and down. And Bob Chepeck was like, a 10-hour line isn't a sign of success, it's a sign of failure. And then when they opened up the galaxy's edge in Florida, they blamed the low attendance on the hurricane. - The hurricane. - A hurricane that was already pretty much through at that point. - Yes. - And then they said, well, they had five-hour lines. They bragged about having five-hour lines for Millennium Falcon, the other smugglers' run ride. The thing is, the smugglers' run ride can't put people through as fast as Hagrid's can. - Yeah, so that means more people, like I remember the Hagrid's was, it was insane to get on Hagrid's when I first opened. So many people wanted to ride it. - I'm still mad because I was supposed to get to ride it early. - Yeah, that was actually the straw that broke the camel's back for us. But I digress. We used to be on the media list for Disney and they wanted us on the media list for Universal too. And we had some-- - That was in their fault, that was our partner. - Our quote unquote partner who tried to steal our site, we sued her, we won. (laughs) But that's all another story. Wamp, wamp. But yeah, so, I mean, they were calling out, the media was calling out, the Galaxy's Edge was fundamentally broken when it first opened. Meanwhile, Nintendo is just destroying the competition right now. People are buying up all the Nintendo merch at Universal. And the fundamental problem with the Galaxy's Edge is not based on the original trilogy, I'm sorry. - Yes, that is what it is, people. And they didn't put as much in it as they promised. They over promised and then under delivered. Didn't help either. - No, so let's talk about this rivalry. This was so weird. - Yeah, and there is a rivalry. It's been going on for years. Universal constantly trolls on Disney. It is a running joke. I mean, Disney for the most part doesn't do it back, for the most part, they get things in here and there. But mostly it's been Universal at Disney, but it's funny as hell. - Well, what are they gonna say? Like, oh yeah, we dropped the ball and let all of our Imagineers go to the competition. We dropped the ball and we lost Harry Potter to Universal. We dropped the ball, you know what I'm saying? - Right. - Like we could have had Nintendo, we could have had Harry Potter, we could have house up, but no, no, no, we had to Disney. - Disney's trying to win social media, but Universal does. - Yeah, and they troll them all the time and it's freaking hysterical. Like if you follow the Universal account on Twitter. But yeah, they've been doing this. I mean, I even want to talk about DreamWorks. DreamWorks, which is a major part of Universal now, was started by former Disney staff. - Yes. - Jeffrey Katzenberg and we had a bunch of Disney animators and Shrek itself was a parody of Disney. - Right. - It was like the anti-Disney. This is going back to 2001 when the first movie came out. It was an anti-Disney fairy tale and there are a lot of digs at Disney and a ton of different DreamWorks movies because a lot of the people working at DreamWorks used to work for Disney. - And they started their own thing for a reason. - They started their own thing for a reason because the magic ate at Disney anymore. It has not been for a long time. So we try to tell people like, you need to follow creators, you need to follow individual directors or individual animators. Why are they all jumping ship from Disney and going to DreamWorks? And now they're going to Skydance because Disney's not the place to work where it used to be. Or they're getting passed up for promotion. (laughing) - Yeah, 'cause they're the record people. - And I have to give a hat, I can't believe I'm giving a hat tip to inside the tragic. But here we go, inside the magic, had this article last year, but they're just showing some of the razzings that Universal has given Disney. This has been going on for a long time. We have haunted condo closed for annual ghost busting. We have the Simpsons ride to make fun of Pirates. We've got Trek 4D, Donkey, make fun of Dumbo. And I know when they have-- - Go on to teacups, yeah. - Yeah, in the teacups. But I know when they have Donkey there, he was actually the one actor doing Donkey. That sounds bad. The one actor doing Donkey was making fun of how Disney was treating their employees and told people to come work for Universal. - Yeah, but that's also because-- - Yeah, they kept their people. - Yeah, they kept their people. Disney laid them off, let them go. - Here we have another reference toward Pirates of the Caribbean. Jurassic Park, we got Mickey ears floating in the water. - Yeah, there's Mickey ears. But I also get that body, yeah, it's that. - Twister, bright it out. We got some Mickey ears and it's smashed. I mean, this is nothing new and people are still like, "Oh my God, they're making fun of the starcruiser. It's too soon." It's like, "Bitch, they've been doing this since forever." - Right. - You know, they've been doing this forever. Look, they're competitors. They are competitors. They're going to compete. We're talking millions and millions and millions of dollars are on the line. And they are, look, they're gonna take every opportunity they can take to beat Disney. And I think they actually, Universal is actually positioned to beat Disney because Disney, in the parks, they're in an all-time low. - Disney promised a bunch of stuff. Did the bear minimum deliver some things? Like, I mean, the regardless of the galaxies, cosmic rewinds amazing, 100% amazing. - Without a story, how many years ago? - I know, but I'm saying, they promised all the stuff way back when they had money, okay? They did deliver a Tronco, Stereto, EOS, and new rides. But they have since not had the money, they had that. And when the pandemic came, they literally cut back, a ton of stuff that they could cut back, they did. And then some things they should have canceled like the starcruiser, they didn't. But they don't have the money to go all in anymore. And now they're gonna try to find it 'cause I guarantee you, D20, they're gonna announce a fifth gate. I'll be very surprised, they don't. Or at least another minor park. 'Cause they have to. And then I'm like, this person's like, "Oh my God, their university's copping Disney." Well, are they gonna say that Disney copied Universal when they announced another gate? I mean, 'cause it's stupid, it's dumb. Of course they're copying. I'm sure Disney takes stuff from Universal all the time. - Well, okay, you know why we have Hollywood Studios, right? - Oh, yes, I do know this story. - We only have Hollywood Studios because Universal was building their own theme park. They're building Universal Studios. - Oh my God, Disney stole something and tried to open it first. - And they did. - Oh, no, they did the back lot toward everything. - All of it, yeah. And they started filming shows there, originally back in the day they were filming shows 'cause what? - Yes, I went to some tapings. - Yeah, so what originally happened was the great movie ride was supposed to be a pavilion in Epcot. And then they caught when the Universal was gonna open their own theme park focused on movies and backstage tours. So Disney tried to beat 'em to the punch. - Uh-huh. - Oh my God, how dare they? How very dare they? - So they technically did it first. - Yeah, and the only reason they did Star Wars to the level that they did it was because of Harry Potter. But why did they have to compete with Harry Potter? Well, Disney had the opportunity to do Harry Potter and they dropped the ball. - Well, they basically, they basically were going to tell you what's what. - Yeah, they were going to tell her what's what. - Yeah, and now we're looking at our third Harry Potter land and, you know, she, I mean, she could never release another Harry Potter book or game or whatever. Just the money from the theme parks, she's set forever. Like they make so much money off a butter beer scheme. - That's why all these places now, like if you want a publishing deal or movie deal, you have to give up your theme park rights. There's a reason. - How trained your dragon? That's the guy who did Lilo and Stitch. He didn't feel welcome at Disney. So he went to, he went to DreamWorks, you know? And I'm sorry, it is what it is. I'm sorry you're angry, but I think Epic Universe, especially just Nintendo alone, kids are going to say, hey, I want to go see, they don't want to go see Mickey. I want to go see Mario. Let's go see Mario. Okay, let's go get you a Mario hat instead of Mickey ears. And that's what they're going to do. 'Cause Disney lost the plot, you know? And that's their own fault. Disney, it's Disney's own fault. - Now, Disney wants to stay competitive. They're going to need to bring a new gate and they're going to need to bring it. And they're not talking. The idiots that don't put Dr. Facillier in Princess, they're the Tiana's bio adventure because, oh, it's Voodoo and that's bad. I'm not talking about those dipshits. As long as those dipshits that they're the ones who have to take all the natives out and replace them with chimpanzees. And if it makes sure that they're being authentic, animatronic chimpanzees so they don't hurt their feelings, they need to get rid of those dumbasses and then find people who are actually going to bring it. Because if you're going to, you want to compete, you're going to have to compete head to head. And right now, you people are so busy trying to sanitize everything to be not offended and not offensive to anyone. That it's just basically, I don't know what they're going to do. I can't even say you're riding circles in a car because someone might be offended by that too. - The emissions. - I know, right? - It's causing climate change. - You're going to offend someone about what you do. And so they're going to really worry about trying to not offend people that they're just completely sanitizing it to the boredom levels and stuff that sucks. And then, meanwhile, then Epic Universe is going to become in and kick your ass 'cause they're just trying to bring a kick ass attraction. If people want to go see it great, if they don't really want to go spend someplace else in the Super Nintendo area, they can do that instead. Like, they understand that it's not going to be for everyone and that's okay. You're going to make it as amazing as you can for those people. And Disney's not doing that. - Yeah, they're not bringing it. I don't think they have the people there. I don't think they have the capability to bring it. They push Joe Rodey out, for God's sake. - But we don't know that. You keep thinking that. - 95% sure. - Until it says that's the case, we don't know that. - 95% sure that they pushed him out. - But you go to Universal and you want to go see Harry Potter, you go to Harry Potter, you know? And now, they're not going to bring it. Like, they're going to bring Dark Universe to Epic Universe, but if they do a villain's land, it'll probably be, okay, but we can't have this villain because that makes this person upset. We can't have that villain because I make that person upset. - Yeah, we can't have Dr. Facilier because of Voodoo. And this movie only came out, you know, 15 years ago. - And he's an incredibly popular villain. - Incredibly popular. And we're probably not gonna be able to do Hocus Pocus because Witchcraft, they even nerfed Ursula in the new kids show, they made Ursula like her aunt or something and she's like kindly older. I'm like-- - Yeah, she's black now, even though-- - Yeah, so I'm like, what, like, you're not, Disney's not gonna be able to do it to this level. I don't think I'm good on them if they can, but like all the people that made Disney great, they're either dead, they're retired, or they all went to work for Universal. And we're left with what we're left with, the leftovers. It's basically, imagineering, wearing the skin suit. - Plus, I don't think they get something done as fast 'cause I don't think people was willing to work with them because it's how many lawsuits over them not paying and stuff. - Yeah, I've heard that the reason it takes Disney five years to build one single coaster, which is just, and I'm talking about Tron, which is a clone of other coasters, is that they are really cheap when it comes to dealing with contractors, and they're unfair. And they're also, I think they're dragging things out because they don't wanna pay it all up front. - Yeah, but I do know they've been in lawsuits for construction companies constantly. So anyway, we're gonna wrap this up. - We're gonna wrap this up, guys. Sorry you're mad, I can't wait until it opens, and it's just like, it just goes gonzo. I think Epic Universe is gonna be the most visited parks, or one of the most visited parks next year. I think it's gonna be insane. - All right, please subscribe for more pop culture news, views, and rants, we'll talk later. - Bye. (upbeat music) - Thanks again for listening.
