This is the story of the one. As a maintenance engineer, he hears things differently. To the untrained ear, everything on his shop floor might sound fine, but he can hear gears grinding, or a belt slipping. So he steps in to fix the problem at hand before it gets out of hand. And he knows Granger's got the right product he needs to get the job done, which is music to his ears. Call clickgranger.com or just stop by. Granger for the ones who get it done. Today is a weather alert day because of our risk for flooding. We've already seen as much as three inches of rain north of Siler City, where we have a flash flood warning in effect right now. I'll show you how much rain you could see by the end of the day. Plus an apartment complex caught fire in Raleigh overnight. We're going to take you to the scene to see the firefighter response. And hear more about the American Red Cross response. And it's set time of year again. The annual Kids Exchange consignment sale coming up. What you can buy for a bargain ahead of the first day of school. Thank you so much for waking up and joining us here on WRL News on Fox 50 on this WRL weather alert day. I'm Chris Lovington and I'm Michelle McConnicky. You can see behind me at Dix Park doesn't seem to be raining much there right now, but that will change. We've kind of seen these scattered showers throughout the morning. Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner shows us where all of that rain is falling now. So we had a band of heavy rain move through the viewing area, mainly setting up in our western counties, including Chatham County, where we've seen as much as three inches of rain. So there is a flash flood warning in effect there for another hour or so. Take a look at some of the rainfall estimates from that area around Siler City, just north of town, as much as three inches. And then north of that in southern Alamance County, as much as three and a half inches. Also, Northern Orange County saw a good bit of rain there as well. It's almost two inches of rain so far. Now, that band has begun to fizzle a little bit, but we have some pockets of heavy rain and we'll likely see bands moving through. A tropical system tends to bring bands of rain that move through and then you get a break, at another band. This is not technically a tropical system, but it will feel somewhat like it. Lots of moisture in the atmosphere with some heavy downpours and some lightning. Right now, some of the heaviest rain is right over Lewisburg. We're looking at central and southern Franklin County there with a good bit of rain. Some rain falling and wake forest currently. So, blood watch in effect through the day today, with an inch and a half to three inches possible across the viewing area. We'll continue to see these waves of rain all day long. It doesn't mean it's going to rain all day where you are. We'll have those waves and those bands coming through all the way up until around midnight or so. So, it is a WRL weather alert day because of our chance for flooding. The biggest threat we'll be during the afternoon and that is for the entire viewing area. Take a look at wake forest as a live look. It definitely wet with that latest band coming through. 77 is our temperature with a dewpoint of 72. So, warm muggy start. But we don't heat up today. Our highs will stay in the low 80s. However, over the weekend, some big heat rolls back in. I'll show you it coming up, Ken. All right, Elizabeth. We do have those wet road conditions that many of you are waking up to this morning. As you can see from our map and to that end, we can see traffic is also building, particularly on the boat line, which is expected this time of the morning. Let's go ahead and take you outside and show you exactly what you can expect, particularly if the belt line is part of your morning commute. There's a camera from I 440 at Capitol Boulevard. Traffic is flowing nicely in both directions. Not we're getting a lull from the rain right now in this particular area of the belt line. The south side, we just had this camera up and it went dark on us, but no problem to report. But we're going to tell you that traffic is flowing nicely on that south side of the belt line. We do have the WRS Storm Tracker in action this morning. Meteorologist Anthony Baglione, photographer Charles Bradley in the house this morning. And you're in the apex area, Anthony. So, check outside and show us what's going on. Ken, we're just getting on here US1 from 1010 Road. And right now, here is a give you a live look of the roads, very, very limited coverage. It's almost just kind of a mist as you're headed out in this area. We've been getting in and out of those vans that Elizabeth has been talking about this morning. Most of this has been very, very light for our drive here in Wake County. Some other spots in our viewing area, that's not the case. That's something we'll be watching here through the morning, but like I said at the moment, looking pretty good here. Cars are moving along smoothly, but we'll continue to track it here in the WRAL Storm Tracker. Thank you, Anthony. New this morning, Raleigh firefighters responded to an apartment fire overnight. This was near NC State. And it happened at the Centennial Lofts off Crest Road just after 1 a.m. Firefighters were there for hours cleaning up the aftermath after the flames were out. But it's unclear how the fire started. However, WRAL is working to learn that president Joe Biden defended his fitness for office in a high stakes press conference last night. The president fielded questions about his age and calls for him to step aside under intense scrutiny. After his poor debate performance, Biden answered the first question about how vice president Harris with a fumble though. I wouldn't have picked vice president Trump to be vice president, but I think she's not qualified to be president. Donald Trump seized on that on social media, writing, "Great job, Joe!" That was Biden's second slip of the night after accidentally calling Ukraine's president Zelensky "President Putin." When asked by NBC's White House correspondent Peter Alexander about finishing the job he started, Biden said he believes he is the right person to take on former president Donald Trump. The Hope County Sheriff's Office arrested a man from New York who was wanted for murder. Stefan Gilliam on your screen here was found off Ben Austin Road in Rayford. The sheriff's office says that he had outstanding warrants for homicide, and once he was discovered in North Carolina, U.S. Marshals teamed up with the sheriff's office to arrest him. Fort Liberty is investigating how a slide labeling anti-abortion groups as terrorist organizations made it into a training presentation. On Wednesday, a picture of this slide was posted to X and has since gone viral. The training took place at Fort Liberty earlier this week to train soldiers who man access points around posts. People say the slides were not properly vetted and that a garrison employee made the presentation. Carol Tobias, president of the anti-abortion group National Right to Life is looking at the lasting impact. My concern is that people around the country would be worried that, you know, are they going to be beat up because they are now considered terrorists? In an ex post, Senator Ted Budd called the incident despicable and disturbing both the U.S. Army and Fort Liberty are investigating. Two teenagers were arrested for a series of shootings in North Carolina, including one in which a person died. Charlotte Mecklenburg police say these teenagers are responsible for five random shootings. This involved a two-day manhunt, 18-year-old Carlos Roberto Diaz and an unidentified 16-year-old are facing first-degree murder charges. Investigators say the teenagers shot at drivers, bicyclists and people walking all from a car. A 58-year-old was shot and killed while driving, and two other people were injured. Investigators say the 16-year-old has purposely been looking to commit more violence. No doubt that he was going to continue his crime spree. Police say they found a stolen gun in the 16-year-old's car, and they say they are not looking for anyone else in the shootings. Covering Wake County, how you can get deals on back-to-school shopping and baby preparation, the Kids Exchange consignment sale begins today. It is a big, shot-make event. WRL's Kelsey Compe joins us live. Kelsey, this is a great way for parents to save money. Michelle, it really is, but I will say, if you come here, it's kind of easy to get overwhelmed, so you can see that there's so many items here beside me in one way that the folks with the Kids Exchange are trying to make this a little bit easier, is that they have an item locator online, so all you have to do is just search the item that you're looking for. So I put in Kids Backpacks, for example, and then right there you can find exactly the row, the aisle that you want to look out for. So let's take you to video now, so you can see how dozens of sellers were lined up outside of the building yesterday. They get first tips on all of the items before today's sale that's open to the public. This sale is an easy one-stop shop for some back-to-school items. A new survey shows more than a third of parents are setting a budget for back-to-school shopping this year. As prices keep going up, big bargains like the Kids Exchange can help families save. Now maybe your kids are not school-aged just yet, there are still items available here for children of all ages. Having the three-year-old toddler, like I've been doing this since I was expecting in prep for him, and I think we've probably saved hundreds over the years, but for a lot of things, there's things that you can find here that I wouldn't be able to afford otherwise. The Kids Exchange will open to the public this morning at 9 o'clock, they'll be open from 9 until 6 today, you can also shop on Saturday and Sunday, and Sunday all of the items will be half-price. Kelsey Coffee, WRL news, live in Raleigh. And of course, this is such an important time for people to save money as we've seen high inflation. In fact, today we'll have a better idea if the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates or even keep them the same. The Producer Price Index measures the average price businesses pay two suppliers. This passed on to us, the consumers. Last month's report saw a slight decrease in demand, but economists project a slight improvement for the report this morning. This is key inflation information the Federal Reserve looks at when making decisions about the interest rates. The Fed meets again July 30th, but a decision on interest rates likely won't be made until the fall. We're going to bring you details of that report as soon as they're available, and it should be in about 21 minutes. We want to show you this now, a second person confirmed dead in Vermont from flooding. How what was Hurricane Beryl Storms are still causing major damage. And Delta is saying the Olympic Games are bad for business, why flights to Paris are less sought out than usual. And a cell is dumping extremely heavy rain over Franklinton right now. I'll show you whether or not you might see a cell like this later on today. Every day, we rise, challenging ourselves to work for what we believe in. At U.S. Border Patrol, protecting our borders is more than a job. It's a calling. Agents answer the call, working together to keep our country and communities safe. If you're ready for a new mission, join U.S. Border Patrol and go beyond. Learn more at cpp.gov/careers. This is the story of the one. As head of maintenance at a concert hall, he knows the show must always go on. That's why he works behind the scenes, ensuring every light is working, the HVAC is humming, and his facility shines. With Granger's supplies and solutions for every challenge he faces, plus 24/7 customer support, his venue never misses a beat. Call quickgranger.com or just.buy. Granger, for the ones who get it done. Let's get you a live look outside right now, and the WREO Storm Tracker. Right now, there are an I440 near the Wade Avenue exit. We have meteorologist, Anthony Baglione, that's in there. You'll hear from him in just a bit as you're watching WREO News. Here in the studio, we've got Elizabeth Gardner, who is tracking your WREO weather alert day. The radar is behind her to show you exactly what's happened out there with the rain. We had a heavy band of rain develop across parts of the viewing area and set up in our western counties. And that's where we have a flash flood warning in effect right now until 9 a.m. The part of our viewing area affected is going to be that far northwest corner of Chatham County. Lots of heavy rain has fallen here along this band. Look at this. It just keeps on adding up the southern part of Alamance County, seeing almost 4 inches now, 3.8. And we haven't seen much more really piling up there in Siler City, looking just north of Siler City, about 3 inches of rain. The northern part of Orange County at almost 2 inches. A lot of the viewing area, especially around the triangle, has only seen a trace so far, but we're just getting started with this. We're going to see bands of rain continuing to move in across our area today. And that means it'll rain heavily for a while and then we're going to break for a while. It'll rain heavily and another break. And that will continue all the way until late in the evening. So now the heaviest rain is falling over parts of Lewisburg and moving very quickly off to the North and West, headed up toward the I-85 corridor. So there in Franklin County, it's really been coming down very, very quickly. We'll take a look at what some of those totals look like coming up in just a little bit. But let's take a look at what that looks like. I mean, it is just pouring there in Franklinton and that continues to shift off to the North and West. So if you're in the line of that, just be very careful. Visibility is going to be fairly low and at some point we may start to see some cumulating water on the roads that could be dangerous. An inch and a half to three inches is an average of what we could see across our area today. This morning it's a wet commute in some places with some waves of rain coming through. As we see more of these rain bands this afternoon, flooding is more likely. And then as we get into the late evening, we'll see storms scattering out with a lower flood risk. We have a stationary front that's creating these bands of rain coming through and a low pressure system that'll ride up that front as we get through the day, which keeps this on going all day long. So you can see here at 9 AM, we continue to have these cells popping up moving through, these bands of rain, 5 o'clock, plenty of rainfall, and it's going to be a messy evening commute for us and continuing all the way past dinnertime. Looking to Saturday morning, a few isolated cells in our eastern counties, but we should see some gradual clearing in the afternoon on Saturday. So Saturday will not be a washout, but today we have a level two risk for flooding. It's not a risk for severe storms, but I'll tell you what, there's a lot of lightning out there right now. You need to be careful of that along with what's happening out there on the roads. And we're from an inch to an inch and a half, as much as three inches in some pockets out there for today. Boy, we need that rain. Our drought status moderate to severe across most of our viewing area. It is cooler today with the rain 83 degrees, but the heat returns over the weekend, especially on Sunday. We'll see a high of 96. And next week looks brutally hot again. We get it 101 on Tuesday. We'll likely have several days next week with heat advisories again. Ken's here to take a look at how that rains affecting our roads this morning. Yeah, so far so good, Elizabeth, which is good news. It's really a bit of a rather quiet morning commute. You can see all the wet road conditions that we're experiencing this morning. We do have the W.R.A. Storm tracker out there this morning. Right now, Anthony Baglion and photographer Charles Bradley are on the Beltline this morning, working their way across the community. You can see him passing just in North Hills area right now, heading back on these eastbound lanes there on the Beltline. There weren't too wipers slowly going this morning, but nothing major. Elizabeth has been mentioning all morning long. This rain showers will come in waves, but we just have a couple of incidents we want to make you aware of before we let you go. This crash just happened on the Beltline on the westbound lanes of I-440, near six walks road. Right now, we're not picking up any major delays. It's likely a minor accident, but look for some police activity in that area. This is a disabled vehicle in Glenwood Avenue near Glen Avenue, not causing any problems in the area as well, but just keep an eye out for it. You can see people might be just helping that driver this morning. We do want to give you some other looks at what you can expect if you're heading out into the roadways this morning. This is our camera from I-440 in Capitol Boulevard. Traffic is moving nicely in both directions, not a problem this morning. On the south side of the Beltline, traffic is definitely beginning to pick up. The eastbound lanes are heading away from us, many of you will be taking an early trip to the beach this morning, and you can see that it's nothing happening. And the westbound lanes, those lanes are moving nicely in that direction as well. All right, thanks Ken. This massive fire destroyed an apartment building in northeast Philadelphia. The fire broke out Thursday night and quickly grew. More than 100 firefighters worked to get it under control. Just after midnight, three people have minor injuries. About 50 people are out of their homes. The cause of the fire is under investigation. And massive power outages in Texas and deadly flooding like this further north in Vermont. Marianne Rafferty takes a closer look at the mess left behind by what was Hurricane Barrel and ongoing recovery efforts. Days after Hurricane Barrel tore through Texas, destruction from the storm is still keeping tens of thousands of people in the dark, with major power outages raging on in Houston amidst high summer temperatures. But relief may still be out of reach for several more days. If center point meets their goals by Sunday, they will have reduced it from about 2.2 million people without power down to still about 500,000 for next week. Folks, that is not acceptable. Barrel made landfall along the Gulf Coast Monday as a category one hurricane. The weakest type. It seems incredibly common that the infrastructure can't handle a basic storm. Leaving for a category one is sort of crazy to me. But as local leaders promised an investigation into efforts to turn the lights back on, the remnants of Barrel are overwhelming communities across Vermont with deadly flooding triggered by heavy rainfall. We got about six inches of rain they said. It was coming down, it felt like about two inches an hour at one point, and it just totally washed away this culvert. And now we've got a river in our front yard. More than 100 people needed rescuing as the water broke apart roads, knocked out bridges, and swept into homes. All hell broke loose. Several shelters are welcoming those who need a safe place to stay as neighbors work together to clear mud and debris from their properties. The flooding in Vermont comes a year to the day after similar rainfall swamped portions of the state. That was Marianne Rafferty reporting. Former President Donald Trump is asking for his guilty verdict in his hushed money trial to be tossed out. He made that request because of the Supreme Court's recent immunity decision. That outlines when a former president must be shielded from prosecution. Sentencing was scheduled for yesterday but was delayed. Prosecutors are expected to respond to the latest filing by July 24th. Sentencing is currently set for September. Volley police held a wreathling ceremony yesterday for Detective Paul Hale. Hale died in the line of duty on July 11th, 1997. He was shot in a parking lot on Lenore Street while trying to question a murder suspect. Dozens of officers showed up to the event paying tribute to his service and remembering the sacrifice he and his family made for the community. The Cumberland County Board of Education has reached a deal with the town of Hope Mills to secure school resource officers. Last month, the town learned the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office would no longer provide school resource officers. The town council's agreement with the school system provides SROs and school traffic control officers for the coming school year. Fayetteville Police will provide nine SROs as roving officers in the high schools this year. There are also expected to work with traffic control officers to add them to city limits. And some areas of Raleigh can be nearly 10 degrees hotter than others according to a new analysis. Climate Central calculated an urban heat index for every census block in Raleigh. Look at your screen here. It found this area in the eastern part of Raleigh. It's baking. You can see it on the map in purple. The Raleigh Country Club is in the middle of that spot. Areas with more paved surfaces are typically hotter with areas than hotter than areas with water or trees. About 40% of the city was above 8 degrees elevated additional heat in the city. So it's definitely an area with the problem. And as you know, your baseline heat is very high to begin with, so we're talking about additional heat on top of already quite high temperatures. Planting trees and installing reflective roofs are some of the ways to reduce heat islands. 80% of the US population lives in cities with urban heat islands. Those people face greater health risks when temperatures rise. The Summer Olympics in Paris are causing problems for Delta. The airline says the gains will cost it $100 million in revenue. That's because travelers are skipping trips to Paris in an effort to avoid that city. Delta has the most service of any US airline to Paris, including a joint venture with Air France. Delta says travelers are heading to other destinations, hoping for less crowds. A zoo in Prague is celebrating the birth of a Chinese pangolin. The female cub was born 10 days ago and weighs under 5 ounces. It's only the second cub to be born in captivity. Pangolins are critically endangered because of habitat destruction and poaching too. They're hunted for their scales and their meat, which are used for traditional medicine, footwear and accessories too. Coming up, two people are recovering this morning after a stabbing at a Raleigh Walmart, the details police are sharing about what led up to the exchange. President Biden is defending his fitness for office. Here his response to questions about his candidacy at last night's press conference. That's just ahead. Every day we rise, challenging ourselves to work for what we believe in. At US Border Patrol, protecting our borders is more than a job. It's a calling. Seeing lots of rain out there, there's a flash flood warning near Durham and Chapel Hill right now, Elizabeth. With a WRL weather alert day for our potential for flooding, we've seen at least three plus inches from Siler City Northward here, where this flash flood warning is in effect for just 30 more minutes. We'd be very careful driving that way. If you're going to be driving down 64 past Siler City, especially just North, there's been a lot of water there this morning. A fast-moving cell coming out of Franklin County, moving toward I-85, also could cause you some problems this morning. We are under a flood watch for today with an inch and a half to three inches of rain possible. All right. Happening now in the WRL traffic center, we are seeing those wet road conditions all morning long. You can see it right here on our map everywhere you look this morning. You're waking up into some wet road conditions. The icon just seeing right now are in local roads. One is on the belt line, but not really causing any problems for you this morning. The WRL storm tracker is out there in the roadways this morning. He is on I-40 Eastbound near Garner. Let's take a look at that shot. You can see right now, the windshield wipers are not going. You do see some little damp conditions there this morning because of the overnight showers that we had. But do give yourself some extra time this morning if you're getting ready to head out. Thanks, Ken. Zebil and police arrested 19-year-old Romeo Sanchez for what they say was domestic related shooting. Police responded to the scene on flannel way around 9 p.m. The person who was shot is expected to be okay. Sanchez faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. And Raleigh firefighters responded to an apartment fire overnight at the Centennial Lofts near NC State's campus after 1 a.m. Crews worked for hours to clean up the aftermath. We know the American Red Cross also responded no word on how the fire started. Next on Fox 50 how a fight at a Walmart led to a stabbing in Raleigh. Every day we rise, challenging ourselves to work for what we believe in. At US Border Patrol, protecting our borders is more than a job. It's a calling. Today is a WRL weather alert day. We have a flash flood warning for part of our viewing area. I'll show you how much rain has fallen here and how much more we could see across our area today. And we are live on the roads right now in the WRL storm tracker, tracking all of these conditions across the area just light sprinkles currently, but we'll talk about where we could see more rain through the rest of the day coming up. And it's that time of year again, the annual Kids Exchange consignment sale, coming up what bargains you can find for your child this back-to-school season. Shopping on a rainy day might as well. Thanks for joining us this morning. I'm Michelle McConaughey. And I'm Chris Lovenguet. Yeah, look for like an umbrella, maybe some boots or raincoat. You're going to need it today on this WRL weather alert day. Elizabeth Gardner has been tracking that very, very closely, and she can see that band that's across our area. And we've had waves of rain coming through this morning, one very heavy band in our western counties early this morning dumped as much as three inches of rain in some places. We still have the flash flood warning. Flash flooding obviously means that the water comes up fast and then often recedes fairly quickly. But do be careful from Siler City northward there in Chatham County. We've seen as much as 3.2 inches of rain there just in the last four hours, almost four inches now, just to the north that's actually in Alamance County and then two inches in the northern part of Orange County. So that band really dumped a lot of heavy rain. We also had a band here in eastern North Carolina along in east of I-95. That's continued to spread westward but dissipated except for that little cell right here that's moving out of Franklin County and into parts of Vance and up toward the I-85 corridor. Watch out for that when there's a lot of lightning, there's a lot of heavy rain, but it's moving fairly quickly. So it may not end up dumping as much rain as that first band that we saw back to the west. It is a WRL weather alert day because we are going to see this on and off all day. Flood watch in effect for us an inch and a half to three inches and we've already had some three inch totals back to the west. The rain is going to come in bands meaning that you're going to see some heavy rain potentially in a pocket for a little while and then a break and then another band and a break and that's going to be the pattern all day long. Here's a look at lunchtime, scattered heavy cells across the region that continues there during the evening commute, the evening commute's probably going to be pretty messy for us but by midnight all of this begins to taper off. So flooding is possible, so that's why we have our WRL weather alert day. The biggest threat will be during the afternoon and that is for the entire viewing area. There's not really one favorite area. It was really pouring here in Franklinton earlier. That cell is moving northward at this point. Our temperatures are in the upper 70s and we'll only climb into the low 80s so we're out of the big heat only for one day. I'll show you when it does return coming up Ken. Elizabeth at 832, we are seeing those wet road conditions as you can see from our traffic map this morning. Believe it or not, it's been a really quiet commute this morning. For many of you, those of you who are getting ready to head out, that's some good news. We just have a couple of incidents to tell you about this morning that's been happening for maybe in the last half hour or so. This is a crash on Blue Ridge Road on the westbound lane there, Summer Park Lane. As you can see, it's not causing any problems for your morning commute this morning. There's a little bit of a slowdown there on the belt line but it's just a little bit of a slowdown. Traffic is still moving. This crash that occurred about 45 minutes ago on the westbound lanes of I-40. I-440 I should say, near 6/4th road, nothing but green showing up as a result. This is likely off to the side of the road not really causing any problems for your commute. Just look for that police activity and if you have an opportunity, definitely move over one lane. We do appreciate that. Given the opportunity to work that crash scene safely. We do have the W-R-E-L strong tracker out on the roads this morning. Needer on just Anthony Bagley, photographer Charles Bradley, on the road this morning. You're on 70 eastbound Anthony, tell us what you're seeing now. Okay, well, like you said, we're on 70 eastbound heading kind of closer toward Clayton here shortly. I'll give you a live look on the roads right now from this vantage point and at the moment very, very limited coverage. You can see one swipe there of the windshield wiper and then we're looking good to go here for the next couple of minutes. We're headed toward a batch of some more light to moderate rainfall that we may get into here in just a little bit. You can see some of those drops there on the windshield. Not a ton of coverage, but as Elizabeth has been saying, really off and on through the day. That's what we've been seeing out here this morning and we may start to see it pick up a little bit later. We will continue to watch it though here on the roads, but for now looking pretty light coverage here in the W-R-E-L storm tracker. New this morning, Raleigh firefighters responded to an apartment fire overnight near NC State happened at the Centennial Lofts on Crest Road just after one o'clock this morning. Crews stayed on scene for several hours working to clean up the aftermath. We know the American Red Cross also responded, no word on how that fire started. We're working to learn more about the extent of the damage there and the number of residents impacted. Zebulim police say they arrested a man for what they say was a domestic related shooting. Police responded to that scene on Planaway around 9 p.m. last night. That's on Old Bun Road if you're familiar. 19-year-old Romeo Sanchez faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon and the person who is shot is expected to survive. We're working to learn more about what led up to that shooting. Two people are recovering this morning after a fight escalated into a stabbing near a Raleigh Walmart. You can see the moment the fight broke out at the bus stop outside the Walmart on New Burn Avenue. A person pulls out a knife and stabs someone. Another person was also hurt in that fight. This is the second stabbing at that location. In April a person was killed after being stabbed at that bus stop. WRL spoke with Councilman Corey Branch who says the area should not be defined by these incidents. There's been a lot of work to be very proactive in trying to change the air to what has been going on there. So I go there myself so I have a daughter so I definitely feel safe and secure going to the Walmart and to the other stores in that shopping center. Right now no one is in custody Walmart has hired private security and installed cameras in the parking lot. President Joe Biden is defending his fitness for office. The president took questions in a high stakes press conference last night and he said he will not leave the race. I think I'm the most qualified person to run for president. I beat him once and I will beat him again. I'm not in this for my legacy. I'm in this to complete the job I started. Biden made some missteps during his news conference. He referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as Vice President Trump and called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Putin. This was Biden's 15th solo news conference, a historically low number compared to recent predecessors at this point in their presidencies. And this morning the list of Democrats calling on President Biden to end his campaign for re-election is growing. This time it's representative Jim Himes of Connecticut. He's the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee. Himes released a statement last night after Biden's news conference there and he said quote, "The 2024 election will define the future of American democracy and we must put forth the strongest candidate possible." He went on to say that he no longer believes Biden is that person. During a visit to North Carolina, Vice President Kamala Harris told supporters that she and President Biden will continue to fight as fears about the future of his 2024 campaign grow. The Vice President was in Greensboro yesterday for a campaign rally. If Biden were to drop out, Harris is considered a likely choice to replace him on the ticket. Biden has repeatedly said he will not bow out of the race. A hard-wrenching service in Durham for a two-year-old shot and killed three weeks ago. The family of Manari Bradcher buried her yesterday. The funeral was held at Antioch Baptist Church in East Durham. Her family members wore t-shirts that read quote, "It's on too soon." And they tell WRAL she was such a sweet little girl, full of light, who always had a hug ready and loved to dance. "It was a really good kid when she sees, hey, she runs up with a smile and she hugs everyone and she's going to really be missed." She's no longer here, police are still searching for the person who killed Manari. Durham Sheriff Clarence Birkhead attended the funeral and he's calling on the person responsible to come forward. This morning more than one million homes and businesses are still without power after Hurricane Barrel swept through that area that includes over 879,000 people in Houston who are dealing with extreme heat conditions. Governor Greg Abbott has requested an investigation into some of the power company's restoration. State officials say it's likely that companies underestimated the impact of the storm. Houston's biggest power utility said that 500,000 customers likely won't have power until next week. "Stubbering Wake County, you have a chance today to snag some great deals on kids, toys, clothes and so much more. The kids exchange consignment sale begins today and WRAL's Kelsey Coffee joins us live from there at Kelsey. We've seen some people walking there already getting some stuff, great things." Chris, there really are so many amazing items for people to choose from. You should be able to see way back there. There's tons of clothes, two miles of clothing racks. So whenever you come here, it's best to make a list and have a plan. Let's take you to video now so you can see some shoppers yesterday. Now those people on the screen there are sellers so they had first dibs on all of the items before today's sale that opens to the public. This sale is an easy one-stop shop for some back-to-school items. A new survey shows more than a third of parents are setting a budget for back-to-school shopping this year. As prices keep going up, big bargains like the kids exchange can help families save. "In years past, people do kids exchange to be a good steward of what they have. Right now when the economy is really, really tough, the groceries are expensive, everything is higher, this is becoming really a necessity for parents. They're like, 'If I can save $100 on my fall wardrobe for my kids, I need to do it.'" The kids exchange will open to the public within the next hour or 30 minutes or so here. And it will be open today from 9 until 6 and then you can come Saturday and Sunday and on Sunday, all of these items will be half priced. Kelsey Coffee, WRL News, live in Raleigh. Here she said, 9 o'clock, 20 minutes from now. A bear in Johnson County was captured on camera the other day. First ahead, what neighbors are saying about their encounter with it. And today, the James Webb Telescope will share new photos. Wow, coming up the exciting NASA anniversary, being celebrated. Granger, for the ones who get it done. Welcome back on your WRAO weather alert day. This is a live look from the Storm Tracker, Business 70 in Clayton right now. A couple of sprinkles on the windshield. It is coming down heavier in other areas. Meteorologist Elizabeth Garner is tracking that of flash flood warning until 9 o'clock this morning. So only about 15 minutes left on this flash flood warning, but boy, a lot of heavy rain has fallen here, especially just north of Siler City and just south of Graham there in Alamance County. Let's take a look at some of those rainfall totals. It's almost four inches now, south of Graham, and that's just over the line from Chatham County in Alamance County. Also, that northwestern corner of Chatham County, north of Siler City is seen as much as 3.2 inches. We've had a pocket there of almost three inches down south of Ashboro, and watching what's happening here too in the northern part of Orange County, north of Hillsboro, as much as two inches of rain. So lots of heavy rain falling across the viewing area. The latest pocket of heavy rain is here moving across I-85, so if you're headed out of Durham up toward Virginia on I-85, you're going to run into that pocket of some very heavy rain. We also just had a small cell move across I-95 there right around Roanoke Rapids. So we have some pockets of heavy rain. This is going to be either pockets or bands of rain that keep moving through. It's not going to be an all-day rain in any one spot. You're going to get a break from time to time. But this will feel very tropical. There's so much moisture in the atmosphere. These cells are dumping a lot of heavy rain when they move over you. This one, boy, we're watching the camera there in Lewisburg. It was just pouring. Also lightning with these as well. You're dealing with this right now in Henderson, and then just to the southwest down I-85. Lightning, don't take that lightly either. Lightning, one of the very dangerous weather phenomena that we have, just be careful. We'll see a lot of lightning all through the day today. An inch and a half to three inches of rain is what we'll likely see. We have that flood watch. It's a W.R.L. weather alert day at level two risk for flooding today. That's a risk for flooding. It's not a risk for wind damage, but definitely a lot of heavy rain today. We take a look at future cast, and it doesn't stop. We'll take it out to around lunchtime, plenty of rain. It may migrate back along the I-95 corridor, but we'll likely see plenty more of it developing in other places through the afternoon. So no matter where you are, you have a good chance of seeing at least some pockets of a heavy rain. We just tapered off nicely here in Franklinton, but we ended up with at least an inch to two inches in that area with that cell coming through. Right now, 77, 2.72, it is not going to be a heat issue kind of a day. 83 in Raleigh, 82 in Durham, 85 in Fayetteville. So nice to have a break from the intense heat, but the trade-off is we'll have to be watching out for that lightning and potential flooding. 72 is our dew point. It may drop a little bit on Monday and Tuesday, but we still have the potential for a heat advisory with our heat climbing Saturday, 99, Sunday, it'll feel like 103. That'll keep us just under heat advisory criteria, but just note, you know, over the weekend, it's really going to be hot again. We get back into that uncomfortable feel. And by Tuesday, we're looking at temperatures as hot as 101. Jeff Hogan in the Doppanera Live Center, speaking of a little bit hotter. Right now, the Producer Price Index was just released from the U.S. Department of Labor and Statistics, and it shows that it's ending in June, a little bit higher than what was expected. 0.2% is what wholesale prices rose. I'm going to go to the U.S. Department of Bureau of Labor and Statistics. Right in the middle of the page there, you see the PPI, the Producer Price Index. That's the price that producers pay to get wholesale products and services, and then they pass along that price increase to consumers, you and me. And the services area increased 0.6%. The goods area declined half a percentage point there, but all of this translates into what experts are saying. The economists that were surveyed by Dow Jones were expecting a 0.1% increase for that index. It went up 0.2%. So it's unexpected bad news for inflation because it went up just a little bit. It does retire now at that 0.2% increase. It reaches the highest level for this since March of last year. Want that interest rate cut from the Fed? Thank you, Jeff. Today, the armorer on the set of the film Rust is expected to testify at the trial against Alec Baldwin. Hannah Gutierrez Reed is serving an 18 month sentence for her role in the shooting death of Helena Hutchins, the cinematographer. Now, her lawyer says that she plans to plead the fifth. Yesterday, the jury was presented evidence that showed there was a live round inside the gun belt prior to the shooting. A crime scene technician also testified that live rounds were found in several other places on the movie set, including in the prop cart. Still unknown if Baldwin will take the stand in his defense. If convicted, he faces up to 18 months in prison. An Australian army private and her husband accused of spying for Russia were denied bail this morning. We are hearing from a Johnston County woman whose ring video camera captured the moment a black bear walked right through her yard. Tammy Strickland says this is the first time her cameras have ever spotted a bear. It was just strolling through right at 10 o'clock Wednesday night. It went around the side of the house, another part of the house as well, where a second camera picked up its movements. About 15 minutes later, Strickland walked outside herself to put a few things away for the night. But she had no clue that bear was likely still close by. I didn't believe it. I kept looking at it over and over and I couldn't believe it. It wasn't aggressive or anything, it was just walking around, but it was still scary to see it. And while life experts say sightings like these can become more frequent in areas where new construction and development occur. Police in New York are monitoring the beach and queens after two confirmed shark sightings. Parts of Rockaway Beach were closed to swimming yesterday after two sharks were spotted there. NYPD drones captured the video of the sharks off the coast. Lifeguards say there may be more reported shark sightings this year than in years past, but they say it could be because of warmer water and because there are more tools available to spot sharks. With two weeks to go until the Summer Olympics in Paris, organizers put the finishing touch on the volleyball venue at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
