The man at the center of a DWI crash that killed a Garner family of three is expected to make his first quarter appearance on tomorrow. Twenty-five-year-old Jordan Porter was released from the hospital yesterday. Now he faces several charges, including three counts of felony death by motor vehicle. Porter's bond is set at $3 million. Officers say Porter was under the influence when he caused a crash on Memorial Day, killing Tyler Campbell, his wife Susan, and their eight-year-old son Miles. Police say he was driving 85 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone. Durham public school officials plan to introduce the new superintendent to the community tomorrow. The school board voted unanimously to offer Anthony S. Lewis the job. Lewis has spent the past six years as superintendent of Lawrence Public Schools in Kansas. Lewis joins DPS after a turbulent school year marked by months of clashes between the district and classified staff over promised pay increases. The turmoil led to abrupt resignations by the district's chief financial officer in January, then the permanent superintendent in February. Lewis, however, says he was impressed by the school system and its search for a new leader. Speaking of new leaders, tomorrow will be the first day on the job for NC Central's new chancellor, Dr. Kerry Dixon. Dixon is the first-generation college graduate of multiple UNC institutions in her family. Now, the outgoing chancellor, Johnson Akingley, has been in the role for about eight years. His last day was today.
