This is Saturday's Intazzy with David Lithgow and Brett Geeves. I'm happy with us. On the show for Harris and ages to buy, sell, or rent in Tasmania's search, Harris and ages today at 48 Brisbane Street. And for choices, flooring, Hobart, for all your flooring, domestic, residential, commercial, interior design, experts, 79, 81, Brisbane Street, good morning to wherever you're listening. The winter rolls on, we've got a perfect winter's morning again. Brett Geeves, we have had a darn good winter, haven't we? These days are magic. I mean, they cold, they're not, let's be clear, we're not in Hawaii. How are you? How are you coping with it? That's good to see you, just a heads up, 9 to 40 mils of rain tomorrow and again on Monday. Yes, that does turn to the sun. And then again on Tuesday, 4 to 15, really hedging their bets a little bit there, the weather gods. The Bureau, Bureau, Burro, Burro, Burro, Brew, Coffee. Yeah, 9 to 40, there's a big gap there, but it's 10 degrees tomorrow. So there is a change coming, I think we're going to fill winter across the next three days, no doubt. But it is good to see you. Good to see you two young men. I've had my bratwurst, I've got my banjo's cup of tea and I'm ready to... I'm not sure how you do a bratwurst at 7, 20 in the morning for 20 or two years. Your breath would be horrendous the whole day. It feels toasty, okay, but sure, I'm happy to accept that that might be a small issue. Heading to Launceston this afternoon, your mighty hawks, who are just, who are just... Well, they're a little wack to us, but the cats form, they've sort of found a little bit again. So today's... it's a big game actually, I'm super excited about it, because we haven't had many games with any fields like finals, implications for a number of years, the kangaroos have been the worst team in football for four years and the hawkers have started again. I made a comment the other day that I reckon James Sicily is worth four holes to that team still and I maintain it to be correct, he's back. I think you agree with me on that one, don't you? Not to disagree with you there. He's so critical with everything. He is. Well, it's just, you know, I mean, his ability impacts here, but more importantly, he's kicking and that's where Hawthorne really struggled. Yes. I mean, early on in Geelong, they had the first five points of the game and Hawthorne just couldn't exit because they didn't have anyone to break it open. Sicily's so good at pinpointing the almost impossible kick to break the game open, particularly through the middle, he really bites it off and yeah, they just kept down the line, Geelong just kept rounding it back in and then, I mean, what was the score a quarter time and that game was 30 to not mark. Yeah. Yeah. So, look, that would break beyond that, but Geelong are phenomenal. I mean, this kid last night, they've shot six weeks, a couple weeks ago. Humphrey's. Yep. They just plucked him from nowhere. Yeah. He's had 13 marks, kickable superbly. Ollie Dempsey's just fallen to them from the heavens. Yeah. I mean, and I don't know, I shouldn't say fallen from the heavens because that sounds like there's luck involved, but yes, their recruitment team and their talent identification people are just from a whole other planet. Max Holmes had 27 touches last night, Duncan's still rolling, a couple of girls at a start. Yep, Henry was good, they've had an interest in year, haven't they? But suddenly there are 11 wins and five or six losses. What are they? 11 and six. So, they're third on the ladder. Can I ask you a hard question if you're picking the team? What do you do with Tom Hawkins if he wants to play and he's coming back from injury and you've got to make a decision? Can you play? He want to be up and going and super fit because he can play him and kneel together. His team looks good. You see? He's being superb. The big dude up four that's replacing him. We can say, they've been better without Tom Hawkins. Clearly. Heeps better. Rightly or wrongly. And that's no disrespect to a guy that's kicked 796 goals in the game's record. I mean, he's getting a statue, there's no doubt. And it's hard when the game's great, and he is great at the game. Tom Hawkins is absolutely no doubt, probably go on just that one year more than perhaps. Yeah, because you do want to go out on a high and you don't want to let's reference Aaron Finch in his conversation. You know, Aaron Finch will be remembered for his last 12 months rather than his first 10 years. You know, his dominance of international white ball cricket was profound. Yeah. And Tom Hawkins is going to be a little bit the same. You know, everyone will remember his last year as being injury riddled and he's been, you know, half a yard off the pace and his hands haven't quite, he just hasn't been able to impact the game the same way, which is sad. So people out there remember the Tomahawk as one of the game's great. It's not this last version of himself that we have seen. So that'll be the afternoon where we'll be on air from 1 o'clock up there. The mighty hawkers who still won 6th of the last 7, will be disappointed last week against the Dockers in the game, which really does feel like it has finals implications, a bit like last night's game. I guess the big news, we've got lots of footy to talk about in this first hour. We saw the renders from the architects, the group that has government, they finally produced what we wanted to see. We used super-shocked that the Grey Whale or the Titanic, as it was rolled out by a few months ago by a group, I think, consisted of Roland Brown, Richard Flanagan, a few others. It appears they slightly misjudged the impact. Was it just a spy chance or did they don't care and they made it all up? I think you've got a sigh with humour. There was no doubt at the time that the group that pieced that together were going for shock value. Really? And they certainly did that with the code hangers on the top. The Pinecrest Tough Water Tank, shout out to Pinecrest Tough, not tough enough. Look, I mean, the designs are spectacular. It looks phenomenal, I guess the challenges are still really clear who's paying for it, what are the costs going to be, what are they going to find when they start building? So that's all still very much something that needs to be navigated. But 100%, it is not going to impact the Skyline like the Grey Whale that they stumped up, which I thought was very funny. Look, I'd like to get Roland on the program. We might try for next week's press, and just actually, I did hear him talking with ABC's Chris Ryebottom, and he said, "Oh, well, we had to sort of work with the information. We had no you didn't, Roland. This is a deliberate boy." But let's try and get him on the show next week, if we can, and actually see if we can have a diplomatic conversation with you. Well, look, I'll leave that with you. I'm not familiar with, I've heard you speak with Roland Brown on social media, and there's a bit of back and forth between you two, I believe. So that'd be a great debate, and I'm happy to facilitate and mediate that. I really put away my hitting the anti-starting people a few months ago, however, I did just couldn't help myself with just worrying, I think, two tweets in reply to a gentleman who I actually really like yesterday. But look, it's, again, referencing Chris Ryebottom from ABC Grandstand, speaking him yesterday. It's all, there's no hurdles anymore. It's happening. We've got to just, we now move on, and we do like the designer. It looks just fabulous. I mean, you can picture that. I think it's going to look awesome. Oh, it'd be great if, yeah, if it gets built, and I suppose, like, you can appreciate, given that the challenges that we face at the moment with, excuse me, homelessness and mental health challenges and the health system and the murkiness of the world, you can appreciate why people are concerned on the costs, and I'll put that to you as a question, because you were very much for the stadium today, when it's been your, your dream, but you can see the other side of it from a, from a straight up financial perspective. Well, we've talked about this, don't forget, you know, I've got most of my family work in the hospital. So, two of my family members, direct family members, work in the high bed hospital. The other ones are pediatrician in Darwin. She'll probably get here the next year or two with her three boys. Good. Good. Stop your family. Good, stop. Something happened with me. Yeah, big brains. Yeah, big brains. Yeah, you know, look, I've always, my thought was always as, you know, I'm trying to separate the two things and I don't think they've always been mutually exclusive, and the benefits long-term physical mental health, you know, and the joy and prosperity that's going to bring humans in this state far outweighs it all. It's going to happen. It's going to be exciting. I've seen the brief look at how the infrastructure, they want it to be down here. So we still don't know whether it's going to be at Rosney. The training facility, we don't know if it's going to be Kingston. That's still going to be nutted out. I still favor the fact that I think it will get to Rosney, but can it not sure? So there'll be a couple of ovals. We've seen some snapshots of what the facility may look like, et cetera. So they're starting to finally give us ties to that? The question I have is, does it need to take up both sides of the road? So why can't the facility be on just the Rosney public golf course site? So talk of it being one ground over there and a facility, and then they're being aground at, is it, Charles Hancock on the other side? It's a great question. I'm not sure. So what is it, what, I don't understand why it needs to be split, because realistically, the only challenge I see with that site, it Rosney, is if you're one of the 35 residents that lines, I'm leaving sure what street that is, that on the top side of Charles Hancock and then down the side, you're going to be exposed to, there'll be lights there, obviously, for training at nine times and potential of games, if that is the secondary ground. No, I don't think there'll be, is that something where the ground's going to be? There won't be a ground at the top bit. Okay, good. There's definitely a bit, the two grounds will be on the golf course. So, and so what happens on, I'm not sure how that's split up, I don't know. Why is there opposition to that? We'll see if we can, we'll see if we can get some more information on that. Texting, if you've got something, 0437552535, we'd love to hear from you, get involved in the conversation. It's a good question. Yeah, my understanding is that there was a ground on one side, a ground on the other. There were two grounds, but they're split across both sides of the oval, both sides of the highway there. Yeah, interesting. No, it can't answer it, but look, I've seen Altmail, I've drive past him every morning with his, with his board and, you know, save our facilities, save our parks and stuff and good luck to him. Because, yeah, like, I mean, I felt like him the finger the other day, I didn't know. Sorry, I shouldn't have said that. The point I was going to make is that the only people that should be opposed to that are the residents, if there is going to be a ground on the, on the left-hand side, as you're driving from Rosney to the city. Oh, no, there's a bird that they're worried about. There is a bird that there's a concerned as well. Yeah, but if you're the, if you're one of the residents that line that street and you are then exposed to the lights and the whistles and the yelling and the camaraderie, that, that would have annoyed me. That's going to be the other side. No, no, no, the bottom showing is, if there is, and I am correct, if there is an oval being planted, that side of the, the highway, then those residents should be angry because that, you know, that, that bought a house opposite a park that's very rarely used. And what, what a beautiful setting you might have even get a pop of the water down there to the right. And now you're going to get whistles and yelling and barking and lights and I'd be, I'd be, I'd be angry too. I don't think that is the case. As a real estate agent, I'd suggest to them all look at the bright side. Real estate? No, your real estate value is going up. How? Of course it is. How's it going up? Well, I'd think anything around that facility. Around a footy oval. Well, I've, I've punted and not, that facility, Rosni, Bill or even General, I think that real estate's going to be, well, once you've added that world cast class of facility, it never hurts. I'm not sure that, that direction's going to go down. You think how's the process to go down? I think people would be reluctant to buy in that street if that facility is built and they're exposed to lights for nights of the week, into their living room. They don't train at night. The sound of whistles is a raw way to go. People don't train at night in winter. No, no. But if you go to an AFL team, they're not normally training at night time, they're during the day. People will be training on those grounds. Yeah, but you also hang on. You've locked in. This is the way you work. That's why I appreciate you. For nights of the week, the lights give me until 10 o'clock every night, so no they're not. So you don't think if there are two grounds, again, my understanding, and I'd love to be, I'm going to research this properly now, on the Rosni's site will be the main facility. So that will be the high performance center on the golf course with the offices and it will be a pristine oval and all that will be connected. And then on the left-hand side will be a secondary oval and that will be a little bit more of a secondary oval and there will be some, if you've got a text? I have. Good. Daimai from West Hobart's is just texted and said, "The club's preference is all on the golf course, and the mayor is also on record at wanting it all on the golf course from day dot. The original plan from the council had an oval on the golf course and an oval on Charles think." Oh, see, there you go. Yes, but clearly that's the movie in the other direction according to Daimai. Oh, clearly. Yeah. You can ask Clarence residents, yes or no, to HPC on golf course and Charles hand and yes or no to HPC or just the golf course. I'm just the golf course, yeah. So look, so there's obviously a movement that's with you. No, no, it's wild. Yeah. So you can say it, Brett, you were right. There was an oval plan for Charles hand park. You can say that? Well, I said I wasn't sure, but I was right, you can say that, Brett, you were wrong. Well done, Brett. Excellent. So back to my point that if that does go ahead in the electoral, I think it'll end up on the Rosney go. Like common sense and logical kick in, let's have it on one side. That makes complete sense. Yeah. It doesn't impact residents. No. Then win. Well done, Brett, you were wrong. Well, Brett, I'm sorry, Brett. Brett, Brett. I was wrong. You didn't think this team was going to exist. So let's, if you want me to trump you, I'm happy to do so. There's still a provisional loss in the state of this, but let's not get too far down the road. It's happening, mate. According to Daimo, there's conversations there now would suggest to me. No, no. It's not a conversation. It's going to a poll, so the client's residents will vote. Where do you want this? Well, what would you vote for if you were around there? Exclusively on the golf course. It appears to be a no-brainer to me. Yeah, that's what I said up front. But I don't. Well, let's see. I wonder when we're going to get the votes. One of Daimo knows. $150,000 worth of votes. That's the share. That's the cost to the client's city council. Well, that's the no-group. That's their poll, hasn't it? But they've said no to Charles Hand Park, which I agree with, but only if I'm a resident that lives in that direct L-shaped street that comes off the highway left and then left it again. The Bastix, the other one. The Bastix street. Yeah. That's right. Might have popped in there one or two times back in the door. It's going to be interesting. Look, we're going to come back after the break. I've got much more footy to talk about. I want to talk about Isaac Haney with you. I want to talk about Rankin's suspension, Katy Perry. She's the grand final entertainment. Don't lock that in. Don't mind that, actually. Let's have a break. We'll regroup, sip on our team, come back and talk to you shortly. This is Saturday's Intazzy with David Lithgow and Brett Jeeves. Eyes up towards Neil, Cartmar Cameron through the traffic. Every shoulder for a goal. That one was very good. It's 60 from goal. He chips at 90 to the gooey, 40 minutes from goal. Looks good. That's the boot. He looks great off the boot. Brilliant kick by the gooey. Right half forward. He doesn't take the shot. Wait. He goes to Elliot O'Hill. Alliance. And kicks in second goal and gives Colli with the lead. Duncan here below the top to Bose. Nanna Sandbaconi gets tackle as he kicks it. Stegel picks up the loose ball. But I've got tackle dropped it. Keep the goal anyway. And is running straight to Nick Daikos. That kind of leaves sidey against Manna, but he's just a little too clever for him. Nick Daikos, too sidey, just as you talk him up and he nails it. That's why we pay you the big bucks to him. He interned to Atkins, 80 from goal, chips it inside 50. Bose goes and takes the mark. He was back against the grain. He knew there might be a bit of traffic coming at him, but he's still ran into the hole and marked it. So in skips Bose and he slips it home. That Guthrie kicks to the pocket. And almost it is Oli Henry has taken the mark. He bends it. Oh, it's pretty good off the boot. That is amazing. Oli Henry, from the boundary, kicks are ripper. Nick Daikos involved. Now to go, he handles back to Richard's. Oh, that's ended over. Rowan kicks it back into the 50. On the second bounce to Stegel, who says thank you very much. The cat's are going to win. The cat's are going to win for the third week in a row. Got to go. Won't make the distance and Darcy Kamlin takes the mark and he can kick around his body. And as I mentioned earlier, I'm wallpaper over a few cracks and he does nice bit of wallpaper. Clark will kick the ball inside 50 and Darcy will comes out and that to the magpies. Gets on with it quickly, spreads to the southern side towards Bobby Hill, who marks in front of Duncan. He slips over as he tries to go on with it quickly in the sire and sounds. It's what happened. Jelong are the real deal. They've won this really well. They've now won three games in a row, 11 for the season. And on the big stage of Friday night, they've just been too good for the make-up. The mighty cat is. Look, they started the season so well, winning the first six. Seven. Seven. Amazing. They've fallen in an enormous hole and the last month they've found it again. That's a big victory. I mean, I've been so worried about Colin Wood and I'm probably still him as a swan supporter. Maybe they're many, but they're the best or the hardest team to get over, but they might miss the finals. It's that even. And that's where these games, like today, you know, Hawks and Dockers, they can... The Dockers can put a bit of... They can put a little bit of a space on Colli Wood. They could be two and a half games in front. So you go to the head and say, "Well, look, there's only six games to go." The Colli Wood can't catch Freo. They probably can't catch Essiden. You know, Port Adelaide win this week. They're two games in front. Yeah, I mean, Freo... Bazaar. Freo are quite surprising, I mean, I don't know if you remember. And we did our predictions on the year, but I had Fremantle in the eight. Yep. I had some Kilda. And then I... And then the next week, I thought about it and I completely neglected the Bulldogs in all of my analysis and I subbed them in for Freo. So I'd like to retract again and get Freo in. But look, I mean, the footy seasons are so hard to get any grasp on. I mean, three weeks ago, I reckon you and I are both sat here and roped you along off. I'm certain I did. I said they're done, put a fork in a bowl, dunk in danger fields. I'm pretty much in the same thing. That's over. Get them out. They're done. Well, they've gone on a three game burst to have played... And played in the finals teams? ...have played unbelievable football. And it's on the back of these random kids that they just stump in. This, um, Nana, who's playing in the midfield, I mean, he tackles to hurt. He's good. He's a bulldozer. Made from straight up concrete, that bloke. So you bring in him, the chap that we referenced in the opener, whose name has just completely escaped me. I'm having one of those mornings. It was the Humphreys. Humphreys, yep. He had 19 kicks, four handballs, 13 marks, only the one tackled. But he made the most of every kick. And then you've got Ollie Dempsey, who just runs the wing like he's been doing it for ten years. So the pie made me sick to long. Yes. Just a joke. My injury list, I mean, it's been a lot worse. I guess they would say the problem is now you're missing, you know, my check. He's a big out, so he's a key player to them as well. McStays coming back. He'll be a good one. Who they're missing? Quoners. Yeah. Look, Mason Cox, he's probably the other one, but they're sort of... In terms of their best team, most players are in. Still no Tom Mitchell, he's got another couple of weeks in the sidelines. But no, they're in trouble. It just reminds you how quickly these things can change, doesn't it? You know, because all I said last year, comic would. This is a dynasty. Yeah. Well, I mean, it just goes to show that you can't write anyone off at any point in the year. No, you can't. No. I mean, the footy... And the competition has never been more even. It's good. It is good. All right. Let's go to news. Actually, get your feelings on this Isaac Heaney. I'm going to shut up and let you talk about this after the news. You're with David Lithgar and Brett Cheves. You want me to do some research? Thanks to Choices Flooring in Hobart 79, Brisbane Street. # On the Holy Grail # # For having heard about the great rule of sadr # # We ran into minutes... # Right, happy with us, David Lithgar and Brett Cheves. A few Texas coming through, David from Launceston, disappointing that there are nine, nine NTFA games today and one TSL game in direct competition with the AFL at Utah Stadium today. I couldn't agree more. We might ask our man, Damien Gill, about that to see what the thought process is about that. That's a good question from Damien. Another Texas coming through from D-Dog. 2021 grand finalists didn't win a final in 2022. 2022 grand finalists didn't win a final, that was the swans, and a big chance. This could be repeated this year. Well, it is a big chance. That's quite remarkable. I'm pretty surprised about how the pies Brett are travelling. A few little tick bits before we get into... Tid, Tid bits. Yeah, sorry, I'll just say Tid. Crap, Tid bit sure. I'll wrap that up. It's important there. Jockovich in our careers is the final of Wimbledon last night. Jockovich, he's had almost a saloon passage through because, obviously, the demon pulled out of the quarter final, which was awful when he nicked his calf, and then he only had to...not only, but Mercedes had a great run in the Italian, but he wiped Mercedes off the floor in three sets overnight. Alcares is done at the Hardaway, and he's had to beat Medvedev, who had a terrific tournament again that went down in four sets. Medvedev winning the first set. So it's Alcares versus Jockovich, the cheapest ticket Brett Geeves, I believe, to get into the Wimbledon final is Tingrand. It's what it is to sit in the rafters, is the most expensive tennis match of all time is what they're saying. It's the most expensive sporting match of all time, if 10,000s the boys are. Scottish Open's on there. Scottish Open's a big event because, you know, it's just before the British, of course. It's worth $10 million that Scottish Open. This is some money in the world, isn't it? Huge. There's a lot of money in golf. Since the Liv's come in, the other tournaments are paying a fortune more as well, which is probably not well. It's a good thing if you're a good golfer. The Swede, Orberg, leads at -12. Adam Scott, not far off the pace, he's at eight under, so he's four shots off, he's at it. He's very consistent, Adam Scott, isn't he? He keeps... Do yourself a favour, jump on socials and hunt Adam Scott hits high draw with driver off there. It's beautiful. There aren't many people that can do that. His golf swing is in all time, and look to be honest, he's probably underachieved a bit of a bit. How good he is. Yeah, I mean, it's a tough game. Short game. He's putting. Yeah, that's right. He's probably... He's probably, and I'd say this, this is a bit loose, but he's in the conversation for best ball strikers ever. Yeah, best golf swings ever. What? Most efficient. He's superb. Sarah and I, when we went to the British Open at Karnusti a few years ago, we followed out of around four, most of one day, and the second day, and it was just... Yeah, handsome. All of that. Absolutely brilliant. He... Look, he's fallen one short, I mean, he should have clearly won another British shape, and he choked when he led by four shots, and he let it go, and that... It's so hard, please, people, don't judge Adam Scott for choking at golf, or anybody choking at golf. It's hard to scan doing it. Golf courses are like that. And that's a thing. So, people play, you know, play Tazzy Golf Club today, and they go, "Jesus, it was hard out there. The greens were sleek, and..." Yes. "Like, half the fairways tripled the rough, and put more speed into the greyser, like you know, and see how you go. These pros are about a whole other player." And the margins, and I remember there was one shot, and Adam blocked a little bit into the rough, and there was no one in the fairway, because Tiger Woods was a couple of holes down, so that's where the crowd was. And we stood about three metres away. It was literally Sarah and I, and the catie, Adam Scott, came around, and he hit a three on, you know, maybe two, fifteen out. And he's hit this three on, and straight away off the club, you thought, "This has gone in the hole. It was so perfect." Yet, the margins with the undulations of the greens, and just beforehand, it actually missed the green. And the role of the green, you think, "How did that?" Because there's such fine margins, aren't they? Yeah. The slopes, the whole lot. We're going to continue to talk some footy, we're rolling up to the nine o'clock news in 20 minutes. Coming up in the second hour, we're going to have Eddie Ockendon, Steve Smith from the ESPN, and the veteran former Bulldog, Lion and Tazzy Devil Trent Bartlett. Stay with us. This is Saturday's in Tazzy with David Lithgow and Brett Jeeves. # We've got stars direct to our faith # # And we're praying, yes, now too late # # 'Cause we know we're falling # Paulie from West Hobart has texted in, never, ever, right off the mighty cats. Jeever and Flash. Yeah. They keep doing it well. Paulie. I'm with you, brother. I'm desperate to write them. I'd love to say you're wrong, but you're not. They're just like, they really grind me in the cats. Well, 'cause you're at rest, again, we've mentioned it the other week, but your family is cat supporters, your brother, and your old man, and your love. Yeah, but... Why? I've been there the best of times, of course. It's also hard because you know, like, your dad, who's your old man going for? It's funny. He's a football nut. He doesn't really have a team. Doesn't really have a team. No. He wants the swans to do well for you. No, no, but he would always like, he usually likes to cure because of bald off back in the day. Remember, dad's 86. He liked the pies. He likes the swans. But he doesn't really back for anyone. He will. He'll be 90 years of age. I'll make sure he has his, um, Tezi Devil's, um, he won't wear a jumper, of course, but he'll be 90. He'll get him a, I'll get him a golf shirt, you know? Mm-hmm. So, yeah. But, but he's, but he's, sorry, on that point, now he brought it up, he's a, he's a typical older Tasmanian that we didn't have our own team to back for. So we, we picked someone and dad's guys, he didn't pick anyone, he just, he picked Scott style. Yeah. You know, that was his team. Mm-hmm. He backed four and back in, you know, under 50, 60, 60, 60. Well, he's got gutters off a half back flank, got it off half back four, which is exciting. Um, the, the point I was going to, I was leading into is that my dad's a Geelong supporter, but he wants Hawthorne to do well for me. Yes. So, you know, Geelong are pantsing us, uh, last weekend, a little bit of sex in me. Sorry, the hawks aren't so bad and, you know, they'll be right and, and it's like, shut up. Yeah, I'm sure. Like, I love you. And, and thank you so much for being kind to me. And bringing the hawthorne to win. But shut up. This is where you go away. Got it here. Well, anyway, well, I, I, I, I was that keenie. Oh, well, I've been using those words, shut up to a lot of smart, alien mates and people on Twitter. And even here on our own, S-E-N. Yeah. We like it. No, no, no, not about the swans, but about he and, you know, Mark Robinson talking about during the week, our own Sam Emmons about it. What did Robos say? And a curiosity. Oh, it's definitely a week because he, he, he jobbed him. He, he punched him in the face. The world is that a week. The great Dwayne Russell, who's a, we love Dwayne, he's one of the great humans. No, he punched him in the face. No, he didn't punch him in the face. No, he did. I'm going to stop. Brandon, you go. No, no, no, no. Look, I, it's, everybody knows that's, listen to us, said that morning, there are two things. We're, we're always poorly researched and I, I love arguing with you. And, but in this instance, I can't because Isaac Haney, he's, he, yeah, okay. Absolutely. His hand made contact with Jimmy Webster. Yes, it did. Yes. Who was in a horrible position and had hold of him. So Isaac Haney's trying to, it's a footy move well used by Ford's, but the history of time. Yes. Chop the arms. Yes. And run. And lead. And so he's not even looking at Jimmy Webster. He's just slapping his hands away. And Jimmy Webster for the reason is falling to the ground and gets, gets a smack now. Is it a free kick? Absolutely. Is it a fine? No. Is it a week and going to cost Isaac Haney a brown low? Maybe based on your results. It was over four weeks ago. He was on 45 points in the runaway winner, but I'm with you David and I'm, I'm now passionate and I feel myself getting worked up about this because it's, it's complete bollocks. Like the, the man of people would have said to me he punched him David. He punched him there. There are footy actions and that's a footy action. That is a footy action. I mean, the worst case scenario with this, okay, I'll cop careless, right? Careless. I'll cop. I'll cop careless. Yeah. And therefore fine. 850 bucks. Or whatever it is. 1630. It doesn't matter. But the, the man of people that say, no, he punched him in the head. No. No, he didn't. No, he didn't. And then, then I arc back to the, the previous weeks where we saw what, cause you know how big I am about protecting the head. And so I'm always been the last 10 years when someone cleans someone up and they get him in the head bad luck. All right. To me, cause you don't have to clean anyone up. No, that's right. I've never worked out why you're, people say, oh, it's footy. You can't stop. Well, you sure can. Unless you make this a shepherd. You put it on a shepherd. Put it on a shepherd. Not like Luke Parker put on a shepherd with your feet off the ground. Well, I said five weeks and he got, he actually got 12. He got plenty and he should have done it. And by the way, Rankin, as well as people that think, well, no, but he got, God wasn't looking. And he cleaned him up and he hit him in the head. It's bad luck. We saw Patrick Dangerfield drive Sam Walsh into the ground. Right. And those actions we've known since I reckon the first person that did it was Shane Mumford in 2010. And he drives someone in the ground. He just got at the swans. Along. Down at Geelong. He drives someone in the ground. And that was like, oh, hang on, we've done that for a hundred years. But that's when it changed. Can I jump in on Dangerfield? President of the AFL players. Yes. Yes. Helpful. Has to be helpful in that situation because we've seen players get suspended for that for the last 12 months. Week after week. Yeah. But it's a newish thing. The sling tackle, protect their heads, yeah, it feels new to me. Sure. Not for Danger. Danger's got. And again, this is where Geelong really did say. Well, he had a brilliant, he represented himself and he talked the most amount of waffle of a burn. He's good. He's good at it. He got off. Yeah. And good luck to him, however. And then two weeks ago, we saw the young bloke from Boyd from Carlton. He just misjudged it and he hit Mansoul. But they got off on defense and the defense was all Mansoul ducked his head. If he didn't duck his head, he would have broke his nose. And it's like, oh, so I'm shattered. This is as angry as I've been since the good scenario over 10 years ago. Since you got the Charles hand park overall wrong, 33 minutes ago, I remember I said I didn't know. But I've never been so. Yeah, because I'm angry that I'm angry that I was actually so, doesn't get too, potentially. He hasn't won it yet. I reckon he's probably still slightly in front. But who knows? We're only assuming that he doesn't get a potential to win the biggest award individual ordinary game. It's a big honor to be a brown-o-metal huge huge. Hey, his crypts got off two years ago. Oh, yeah. And he's cleaned up. That was four weeks now. Like in this year. Well, it should have been. He got off. And I just think, well, what are we doing here? So, is Jack Rui while playing today? Footy today? No. Did he play last week? Yes. So, is he playing again? Well, he needs one more game to qualify for. So, he'll play. He'll play. So, everyone out there, when you go and watch Jack Rui while play, he's going to line up a full forward. That's right. Watch how many times it chops to defend his arms without looking and then breaks and leaves. Well, he will do it 25 times in the game. Correct. Well, I spoke to him during the week. Can he tell me? He said Max. I do this. Yeah. Over and over again in every game. It's a pretty move. It's a footy action and, unfortunately, Jimmy found himself at Isaac he's hip level with his head. Why? How? What's it worth to him? That's like, if I was Isaac's manager, right? I would have been, because maybe this one's didn't do a good enough job with the defense, so I don't know. But what's it worth to him financially after footy finishes? What's the number? It's seven figures, I reckon. Oh, in terms of Brownlee medal winner. Let's say, and I'm painting a picture that hasn't happened in the next four year, Swans win A flag. So he goes to a premiership player that played in four or five grand finals, because he's already played in three losing ones, and a Brownlee medalist. What are we talking here? Let's just back up. I thought that you had a lead on the Swans win in the form. No, I'm saying. I'm painting a picture. I know. I know, I know, I know. I'm browsing you up. I'm browsing you up. I'm browsing you up. Look, he's going to be fine in terms of the speaking circuit post-plank. It's a good looking kid. He speaks well. He's probably got a career in the media. So maybe not as much as if it was an Adam Cooney as an example who, like from a Brownlee medal perspective. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, and that, please don't think I'm downplaying their careers. But you know, Isaac Heaney is an extremely good looking boy, you know? So he's going to be, he's going to be right from marketing and speaking circuit types and look at him. Adam Cooney's media work is very good, but he's not quite as good looking as Isaac Heaney. No. Who's a bit of a dreamboat, isn't he? Most of us are. And SCN Stadium has arrived in Tasmania. This is Saturday's Intazzy with David Lithgow and Brett Jeeves. Right, Ted, you're going to get us on Saturday morning, David Lithgow and Brett Jeeves with you nearly wrapping up the first hour. Well, but Katy Perry, we're happy with her. I thought she was a good addition. She'll get a, she'll get a minute. Look, I don't listen to music, but she'll have a jump in, won't she? Out of the seats. Katy? I'm not sure. Well, Paul Persons told us with Katy Perry fits the demographic that she's like, you think about? What is the demographic? What do you think about footy, you know? Oh, Grandfather. Yeah. You know, we're with the footy. Yeah, but it's a footy. You know, like you've got to, we want some ads, we want some pop, Robbie Williams gets some. Yes. It's Katy Perry singing about the teenage dream, really get him. Is it this? Kiss was awesome. Teenage dream. Have you had it? Look, they've had it. They get a bad wrap. Kiss was awesome. Sting was awesome a few years ago. Sting's great. I think they've actually had a good few years, so Katy Perry, listen, just four golden years. Can I ask you about James Anderson? Oh, yeah. He finished four. Yeah, let's talk about James Anderson. We've got, he's retired, 41 years of age, beautiful bowling. My favourite to watch. Yeah. And I know that that's, you know, has an Australian, that'll get me, people will be throwing rocks at me. Yes. Even harder in the street. It's hard. The Australian media hated James Anderson, Australians hate James Anderson. Well, can I, can I just say, the one first time that I met him was Dan Hissam, and I can't remember what I was doing and what I was doing. And I, I get it. And I wasn't trying to have a conversation with him. He looked like the rudest, you know, what I've ever spent a lot. However, that was a small sample size, and he may have had a bad day. Great head of hair. What a head of hair. But what about what? In terms of watching someone control the seam, I don't think there's been, wasn't that grand? It would be in that conversation. Jamie Fleming had a great outswing. I'm not sure Flemos had the, had an in-swinger as can, as consistent as James Anderson. But a little bit of Ben Hill for now, at the time. He'll, he'll be no in-swinger. No in-swinger. But James Anderson's ability to shape the ball both ways on command is, I loved him. I thought he was great. And congratulations. Great career. Between him and Brawl, it was the 1,200 wickets almost. They were 1,200. Amazing. They were an amazing company, he's finished four short, which are, believe, of Shane Waugh. 700 polls. 704 polls. So a lot of wickets. The great James Anderson. Coming up after the break, we're going to have a few interviews with Eddie Ockenden, Steve Smith from the ESPN, and former dog, lion, and Tazzy Devil, Trent Park, with joining us in the next hour. I'd like to be back for Saturday morning breakfast, David Lithgow, with you this morning. What a pleasure. It is straight off the top here to welcome someone that I haven't spoken to for a while, and haven't seen for a while, but a great name in Tazzy football in particular, Trent Bartlett. Good morning, Trent. Good to see you, mate. Morning, Flash. Thanks for inviting me in, mate. How's things? How's life? Life's good, mate. Life's good. The family's good. The young fella turned 10 a couple of days ago. Yes. Good morning. That's good. Always fun birthdays and parties and bits and pieces, so. Now, the last time I spoke to you, I was trying to recruit you to play 40 with me in the national carnival, which is in Fremont of this year. I didn't really succeed. I'm going, by the way. I'll give you this as a cold shoulder, isn't I? I've started my program, but your shoulders and knees and hips worried you a little bit moving forward, but you're moving okay. Is the body not too bad? Oh. You're a bad at warrior back in the day. I'm a bad at warrior. I've had a new hip put in four years ago and that's going really well. I'm really happy with that, but I've liked the shoulders are really playing up at the moment. Yeah, which is unusual. I never really had a lot of shoulder injuries playing, but it's just sort of, I don't know what it is, but just aching and, yeah, I don't know what this is, I think it's just old age or something, but yeah. Well, the last time I did speak to you was about a year or so ago, just after the Tassie footy thing happened in terms of the announcement, et cetera. You were as happy a person than I, and I spoke to a heaps of happy people for this, of course, but it's something that you just loved once it all sort of happened and Gail McLachlan, everyone came to North Harbor and we got a team. Yeah, look at this, I got a little bit different perspective. I was lucky enough to get drafted and go away and have a career, but I had to move into the state to do it. Yes. I left Deliraine at Hofstra for the 16th, and all of a sudden, you move four states or whatever it is in the territory to get to Queensland. Yes. We'll talk you back to that a bit. That's a big move. So, what was the process? Well, my process, well, back in those days, and it was those days, Flash, is that I was doing an apprenticeship as a fitter and turner, and just up the road from where I lived with Mum and Dad in Deliraine, and... St Patrick's College. St Patrick's. I left the year before and did an apprenticeship, schooling probably wasn't my go, and I got a phone call from the media, or my Mum and Dad did saying that I'd been drafted. Right. And that was sort of it. And then, not long after that, I got a phone call from Robert Walles, to congratulate me. And I wasn't really sure it was Robert Walles who wanted me measuring me up taking the Mickey out of me. So, I was very sheepish on the phone, having that first conversation with you guys. So, I was a bit vague, and a bit, ah, yeah, so that was sort of the experience, but that was, oh, 16 at the time. Yes. You allowed the draft at 16, and then... Yes. Then that... So, you started Tezi for years? No, no, no. That was like November, middle of late November. Turned 7-8 just after. Yeah, so you're not allowed to go. You weren't allowed to go until January in the new year, but I went, you're allowed to go and have a look. So, I went up for a couple of weeks, and trained, and all that sort of stuff, and then, you know, a few weeks after that was Christmas, and then bang, you're up, and you're into what sort of thing. So, big move. My earliest memory, of course, in your case, was, you know, you're 12 months into a footy career, and you're in the MCG playing against Carlton, I mean, that's, you know, so early, you got a taste of... Well, that was... It was my second year. That was... It was my second year. Yes. But that was '95. So, I got drafted back in the '94. So, I had 94 in Brisbane. That's right. 12 months in. And here you are in the MCG against the Hall against Carlton. Yes. That was... And took it to him. The 13 point loss of the day. Yes. Yeah, that was... I think it was '55,000... One of the great times of all time, by the way. Well, they're the one 16 in a row in '95, Carlton. Yes. And we give them a real good show, and actually quite a bit of a scare. They had a couple out that day, though, Greg Williams didn't play, and then one had one other out. But... Hurricane Roger Merritt played pretty well. Yeah, Big Roger stood up, as he does, and knocked a few teeth out, and stuck into his earbuds. And I think Vosya was pretty good. Greg Lambert was very good that day, too, by memory. Yeah, that was just unbelievable, exciting running out in the ground, and I'd never played in the jury. That was my first game on the jury, and it happened to be a fine... '65,000 there. It was pretty event. Yeah, '55, '65, '65. Sure. It was a big crowd. It was the biggest crowd I've played in front of. Sure. And it was... Yeah, just that. It was amazing. Like, it was absolutely amazing. And then, 90, 5% of them were against the Brisbane at the time. Yeah, for sure. All the bears, then. That's right. But it was a pretty amazing... Very amazing sort of time. So, you get drafted in '94, you get a message. Mum heard something from one of the people down the exam, and I mean, you think, "How did that ever happen?" It kept going forward with that, some of those early experiences from your recollection, which, by the way, is 30 years ago, if you didn't know. Well, yeah. Well, I thought that boot didn't get in your part to be... That was my first game. And remember... It's... You remember it clearly parts with the other parts you don't, but I remember sitting on the bench. I was on the bench first quarter, and every time back in those days, it was actually fine-ran. Yes. And there was big, high benches those days at Canadian Park, and you're sitting up really high in the fine-ran, and I was right next to the fine. Yes. And, you know, you're going from 80 beats a minute up to 140 times the fine-ran. Just one thing I want, but you didn't want to go on, you want to go on. And then, when the phone call, and they say, "Get put bad on," well, I was like, "I was outside." I said, "The sock... I mean, mouth guard tucked down the socks, socks pulled up, because mum and dad always said, "Look, Trent, whatever you're doing. The males will look like a football, back in those days you have the socks up. Look, if you can't play, just look like mum. So, I've jumped down, and I've pulled the math guard out of my sock, and I've kicked myself in the calf, and I've limped onto the ground from the first go, and mum and dad were in the stands, and mum, and afterwards, I said, "Well, you're limping. I kicked myself in the calf. I was jumping down." Oh, my gosh. I saw a calf. And that was amazing. And then, all I wanted to do then was just put ball on the foot, because, um, Damien Burt, the extra long counters, and a good friend of mine. And he was... He always used to tell me the story that he's first game of foot, he never got on the field. So, he's played a game in this... So, what took... When did you come on? So, quarter? No, no, first quarter. Sometime late in the first quarter, I think it was by memory. Yeah. Come on, and I threw the ball on the boot pretty quickly and straight towards the long part, but I didn't care because I'd had a touch. Yes. So, I didn't get duck eggs in day one. That's all I wanted to do. Game one. No. Had to have a stat. Definitely. And, sort of, career, and, yeah, you went to the dogs, and, I mean, I'm sure most people didn't know you. The famous memory, the only kick five, and they'd opt to cycle down there. And that big fist pump in the corner when you kick your balls. It's a different road now, isn't it, compared for kids, and talented kids, and girls as well. Yeah. We've got our own mob to break for, and what to play for. Oh, it's misreaded. I mean, yeah, you would have done anything for that. Oh, absolutely. I think my generation, which is your generation two flashes. Unfortunately. Yeah. And even up until now, you know you had to leave if you wanted to play. Yes. So, you always had... You never know if you're going to get drafted. No, I was going to get drafted. I thought I might have had a chance. Sure. You know, play two-cup. You play for Tazzy. You do well. You make, you know, all Australian sides, juniors, and stuff like that. So, you think you're, you've got a rough idea where you're sitting on a picture. So, I thought I'm a chance, but you never know. But you always knew you had to go. Yes. So, it was never an option not to not go. So, I was prepared for that. I always probably wanted to go to a Victorian club instead of an interstate, further interstate club. Only because Tazzy, that's all you knew the advice from. Yeah, that's right. Although I did know the best because I used to play on the Sun the afternoon all the time. And that's what you watch on Tilly. Yeah. You're the Richard Champion or Robert... Ah, Robert. Richard Champion or Roger Merritt? Swan's the early guy. Yes. Yes. Yes, Swan's the best guy. He only plays you knew from Brisbane. But, so, you always knew you had that prepared. But now, what our young footballers, male and female, have got this opportunity now to have a... I just say that it won't get drafted to the count and will go into the future either. No. Of course, no. And, good luck to women, Brisbane and Doggies. But, number one, the guy, I want to play for Tasmania, it's just unbelievable. And, you know, as your career went, you got a good taste of it in the sense that, you know, as your career there, I feel level stopped was the start of the Tazzy Devils at the Vifil level. And what's your recollections back then, you know, 20 years ago now, we're four, 10 years in your career. I mean, you got to wear the map a lot. And I know you loved it, all bears at the Vifil level. Yeah, look, that was, look, I've played a bit of Vifil footy when I was at the Doggies. That's right. So, it was like, you know, I've played in the Grand Final for Werribee and I've played a couple of games for Williamstown. That's that whole... That's my whole career though. I was in there at the seniors and playing Vifil or Quaffle Footy or whatever it may be, with, you know, interside with the AFL, so... And always wanted... I thought I had a couple more years left, didn't you? You always do. But, you know, those decisions have taken out of your hands, you come back home, which was a great opportunity to come home and work in footy and play and then wanted to play at the highest level. I couldn't believe that's the Vifil outside the AFL. So to come, I didn't honestly appreciate how big it was until I come back and that first probably, you know, four or five games where we played North Hobart and we had five or six thousand there. Then we started winning a few more games, all of a sudden you're getting seven and eight thousand, thousand at North Hobart, which is a great little amputee, a great little ground. Yes. So we started winning games and it was a really exciting time. The goal was coming towards the end of my footy, but I was still playing good footy at that level. Yeah. So, and some exciting, you know, local talent in the mix with it. So it was really exciting at footy. And look, and that was like a mini AFL club to, you know, went in that little thing. Like, it would be scaled up a hundred times now, that's why people probably don't realize it. That's right. And we had, you know, 10,000 a couple of times of Bill Reeve and the North Hobart to watch finals. That's just going to be scaled up a hundred times. It's amazing. Yeah. It's, yeah. It's pretty incredible. And I guess opportunity is well, you know, you think back to your teams, I mean, whether, what does it mean if you got an AFL team? Does it mean an early in Kalan, never has to wait until he's 28 to get an opportunity? Does it mean a brick open has an opportunity? I mean, there's some people in particular from that area, you think, you know, what, if this was now, they would get a crack on a list, a rookie list of whatever it is. Well, the buck of the Atkins, you know, look, look, like, and eventually got his chance but had to go in the state to do it, Brett and have a gotten opportunity. Betty Atkins did get drafted, but then come home, and there's various reasons why all that happens, plays out. But if you don't have to go away and you're there, he's the one that stands out to me. You know, he's the best player I've played with that never played. What was good about that? It was a beautiful kickoff. Disappear, he's tough, he was hard, he can run, you know, he read the play beautifully. He was a very good footballer, very good footballer. And for him, you know, for the next generation of those two guys, you don't have to go to Melbourne, or you don't have to go to Brisbane, you don't have to go to the West Coast. And the disadvantage for us, as people don't understand, is that it's a lot cheaper to take a Queensland kid and put him on the rookie list and it says, "Maine and Boy, and vice versa from Western Australia or Victoria." And if there's two kids, you know, I shouldn't say kids, but there's two players, and this would be the same for the girls as well, the women as well, is that if they're about the same, they're going to take a local. They're going to take a local. So, you know, Tazzy's going to have... That's right. I am... But all will take the goals. And we're going to get a lot more of them. And that gives a lot more opportunity to the players, but in saying that, some things I'm not sure if people do realise that aren't heavily invested in footy is that we're going to have a lot... They're going to pick the best players I can, and they're going to come from all over Australia. So, we're going to have really good opportunity, but the thing I learned when I went to Brisbane that being a Tazzy boy, very quickly, you get a Dr. Boy, you state your act. And we'll do the same with the Victorians and the Western Australians, the South Australians who come here and apply, because that's what they'll do. If they're the best, they'll get the mean to apply footy. Yes. And they will become Tazmians very quickly. Which is a great thing. A couple of questions. I'm interested. I'm looking to form a teammate of yours, Matthew Gape, and a week or so ago, and he's got little reservations about how they get the VFL team up in two years, because they're all scarred from it with that North Melbourne circus, and how it all ended down here, of course. I've got a sort of feeling that once the VFL team comes, we're going to get some fringes from in the state. We're going to come here, get incorporated into this program, be, as you said, Tazmian's pretty quickly, that they can create something pretty special still from the get-go, can't they? Absolutely. And look... I'm not quite with Kat when he says that, you know, he's worried about it. Well, it's probably, look, I haven't looked at it that closely, but again, they're going to scare the best next generation of footy balls underneath the AFL, and where they're going to come from. They're not going to come from Tasmania. No, they're not. So, be prepared. They're going to be into status, and they're going to come in and play for this team. Yes. But there's going to be quite a few that are not, which is fine. I've got no issues with that at all, giving other people opportunities as well, but they will build very quickly from that and go, you know, they don't have to be super successful there, but it's just that nucleus at the start of the club, and the women as well and the girls as well, that'll generate the same time and coming through. So, I'm excited. Like, I think you can't not have an AFL team and not have a VFL team, because that's the reserves. That's right. And you don't, you know, you don't necessarily, well, once the AFL team lifts up and running, you don't, you know, they'll feed that themselves. So, that'll generate their reserves, footy. So, you know, there's a big opportunity as I'd imagine how they run it, but basically it'll be just, you know, the AFL boys playing in the VFL, they don't get a game. What about, as time has escaped before we get to a break, as always, great to talk with your train. Tell us about one thing I'm interested in. You're from Launceston. Are you from De Laurent? I'm from Scott Star. You know, so we're Northern Tasmanians, and we've been through a generation of the old north south thing. And of course, you know, our friends on the northwest coast, Denport, Bertie, and Arvis, and Penguin, and Smithdon, and I, I, I believe this is going to be the tonic that actually finally gets us all together. Well, how do you see this devil's thing in terms of capturing all of us, not just us he's seen in the Hobart, which I think is so important. Well, I'm not as probably as hopeful as you are with that flash, but well, a classic example is my parents don't think we need a stadium. As old as my dad, mate. So this, and this is, and we'll change by the way. Well, hopefully it will change, but, but, you know, but ultimately, you know, they're saying about housing and all this sort of stuff, yes, you need all that hospitals. You need all that stuff. Absolutely. You need all that stuff. Absolutely. Very important. But you've got to have other things as well. Well, I don't think necessarily the argument of being north and south is that. No. The argument of north and south is north and south. Yes. Why isn't it being built in Launceston? Why is it being built in Hobart? Yes. That's the argument that still hasn't been won from a northern perspective. No. That's my take on this. I think so. Our parents' generation, mid-late 60s, early 70s, though, there is a, there is a group in Launceston. Well, hang on. Why is York Park not? Why are we not playing here? And my answer is- Well, why aren't we playing here? Well, why aren't we playing here? Well, that's right. You've got to set the kids up from Corfield Grammarine in Vermont or Summer Hill, or do we- Come on, mate. We love in Vermont something worldwide. That's exactly right. But it's not that hard if you- it's got to be here. But at the same time, York Park's such a huge part of this, and York Park has to have multiple games and- Well, they would. There's another 170 million getting built. Fantastic. Which is exactly what it is. Absolutely. Absolutely. That's wrong. On the Northwest Coast. That's happening as well. No. You need the infrastructure around. You need, you know, there's, you know, there's 50 players or 40 players. There'll be another 100 plus staff or 120-th inch staff. Yes. There'll be 150 plus, including suppliers, that you need a home, you need a base, and- And this is the other thing about where it's this new facility going to be built. Well, you know, it's- that's a 60 million, probably 70 or 80 million dollar facility, but it's a high performance facility. It has to be built. Like you said, you get- you're competing with Hawthorne about to build a new one in Dingley Village. That's right. You know, Brisbane have just moved into a new resources. Yeah. And it's windy- not windy, but at the Easton Airport. That's right. It's probably 15 years old and I'd be looking to spend another 40 or 30 million dollars on that. Those are revolution 10 years ago, but not anymore. The Bulldogs have redeveloped this twice since I left. Yep. So, you know, that's in 20 years, or when you said 30 years ago. Yes. You know what I mean? So, that's- it happens fast and you've got to have the resources, otherwise you're not just about getting pliers. No. You know, your coaches, you're going to get staff. That's right. You're going to get medical staff, administrators. Professional people. Right. You want the best. And then you need- because you've got that infrastructure having the best, then you can develop underneath that with local people coming through, learning the craft, and they become that. Just as I leave here, have you got your tazzy short sleeve yet? Have you ordered one? No, no. We've got membership, myself, my wife, Philippa, and Ned, we've all got ours. We've got our stickers, mate. We've got all the bits and pieces. I will get the jumper, but I actually forgot that, and I didn't get one. I've got the jumper anyway, mate. Of course, yeah. Trent Parley. Great to have you on, mate. I'm going to look forward to seeing you. And it is exciting, isn't it? No, it's great. We're going to have a bit of fun. It's super exciting. It really is. Let's just get on and build our starting. Wherever they're going to build it and build our high performance center wherever we built, and let's just get on with it. Well done, mate. Thanks for coming on. Thanks, mate. Trent Parley joins this morning. Great to have you back, David. Let's go with you this morning. And what a pleasure it is to welcome, well, Icon almost isn't good enough for this young-ish man, as we're all getting involved in, good morning to future five-time Olympian, Eddie Ockenin. G'day. Great to have you with us. Good morning. Thank you. How does it feel when I just say that, you know, five-time Olympian, you've been thinking about it for a while. I know that. But now it's actually happening. Is that sort of sit back and not think, "Golly, this is unbelievable?" Oh, it's sort of really interesting, like, I know it's definitely not special, like, and I've been sort of chasing it for a few years now, I guess, or after Tokyo. But it's so funny because, like, all I feel like is there's an opportunity for us to go sort of next week we're leading, and it's always this one, like, right now that's still so much more important. So it's really difficult to sort of think about, but I sort of do realise that it's pretty special. It's been a really long time. So, yeah, and I'm very proud of it, but, yeah, it was just like there's something coming right up for us, and that's sort of where you put all your energy into, I guess. What's your preparation been like? I know you were knocked up with a little lergie last week, but the reality is that, suddenly, we're really, really close. How are you going on an individual level and, I guess, more in particular with your teammates? Yeah, I mean, we've had a really, really good preparation, like, you never really sort of know, but we've been, in the year, earlier in the year, we've been in Europe sort of May, June, and I think, like, performances, I mean, results aren't everything, but we've had some really positive results, and I guess, yeah, in saying that the performances have been really good. So, you know, we've played a really big squad throughout the whole year, and we've been performing pretty well, and once you select the team, I guess, it becomes closer even still in the last few weeks, we've just sort of been training with that team that's going away, a few practice matches in Perth, and I think the preparation's been really good. Like, we know our best is really good, and it's good enough to beat all the best teams in the world, and that's really good to know, sort of, know that going over there. Well, what have you got in your back pocket, you've got a bronze medal, you've got one silver, two bronze, is that right, I've started well then. The last Olympics, obviously, super successful, extremely disappointing, all at the same time, how it finished. How do you feel about this one going in as you're hunting gold? Yeah, I mean, like I said, it's sort of really hard to know, I mean, yeah, we've got two bronze medals and a silver medal in my Olympic career, and we've been from fantastic performances and a few disappointing performances in that as well, so it's sort of really hard to know. You get to this point where you're leaving in Awaken, you just sort of sit there sometimes and guide you, so I hope this and I hope that, but realistically, there's a lot of evidence around us being a really good team, having really strong results and really strong performances, and yeah, I think I'd sort of mentioned before, but having the belief in the team that our best is good enough to win a gold medal, that's really nice to know that, because we know we're going to have to go over there and play well, there's no two ways about that. We know we're going to have to be good on a number of days to win everything, but like I guess having the comfort and the belief that we know that our best is good enough to beat any team in the world, that's really nice. Belgium and the Champions, of course, are runners up in 2016, Argentinians winning 2016. It's Germany before that, and all traditional superpowers, although Belgium very much in the last seven, eight, nine, ten years, who do you think is going to be the strongest competition for you? Oh yeah, I think that's a beauty about World Hockey at the moment, like we say it to a lot of people that anyone can really win, but don't know if anyone really believes us, but I guess the European Superpowers are still there, so we're talking about Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and GB are also very strong. Traditional powerhouses in India took about Argentina who won in 2016, I mean, the competition is so strong I don't know, which is fantastic, I think for World Hockey, but it is a really, really strong competition, and we have quarter finals now, so whoever we cross over with, it could be a number of teams in the quarter finals, we get that far, it's going to be a tough game, and yeah, I guess that's why we've got to transfer so hard and prepare so much because you want to play your programs, you want to be informed, but you know you're going to come up against a really good team in the quarter finals and you have to win that day, so it's difficult, but that's what I guess we love about it, the challenge. Hey, Liz, I know you love your footy, and I believe there's a footy team coming down here soon, what is Eddie Ockenden thinking when you're on the other side of Australia with an AFL team coming into town? Oh, I mean, I love representing Tassie, you like that, it's a huge kind of, I guess, how I feel about my sporting trail, representing Tassie, and I'm really proud of that fact, and I guess I have always said, you know, any attorney advice I'd like to give, and I would always just tell kids I'd go out and play sport, any sport, like I would recommend Ockie, because I've had a good experience with it, but realistically go and do whatever you want, and even if it's not organised sport, go and play in the park, go play in the playground, so I think when you've got teams like professional sport teams coming to Tassie, the visibility and the connection that kids can have in that sort of sporting space, I think it's awesome, like they'll be able to, hopefully we see a big uptick in kids playing sport and, you know, even watching and supporting is great for the community, but I think kids playing sport is what I really think is special. And look at a kids' level, and that competition, Eddie Israel, isn't it? We've seen the Jack Jumpers, super successful, basketball, humming, right across Tassie, foot is about to happen, at a kids' level, field hockey, where is it at the moment you think? I think we've always sort of been very community-based, you'll notice that people play through their families, or they might have friends at a school that will play and sort of get drawn to it like that, but yeah, very family-based, I think it's a very, I think, a high participation sport. I think it probably, I'm right in saying that it used to be slightly higher participation for kids, but I think it's very accessible, it's very inclusive, so there's a lot of ways kids can start playing hockey from a really young age, sort of like four or five years old, which is really cool, and you see the masses playing well past 80, so it's a sport that men and women can play from that whole range of ages, which I think is pretty cool, but yeah, I mean, like, you know, kids, you know, I choose hockey because I love it, but go and do anything, sort of find something that you love and just keep doing it. It's a little different town, we've got going here since time when, you know, you left the shores and Hobart's certainly very evolving in that cultural sense, in the sporting cultural sense, which has got to be a good thing, doesn't it? Yeah, I mean, I think what you'll find, like, apart from just having kids, is that people have any connection to a sporting team, and that can be great for communities, and yeah, I guess like social connection as well, just supporting teams and going to watch games, you know, wearing a gear around to a cafe or whatever it might be, I think, yeah, I feel very strongly about sporting, connecting, and a good thing for the community, so yeah, I think it's going to be great. What about this tournament, have you thought past that? Not really, I mean, I think you sort of, in an Olympic cycle every four years, you sort of just put all the eggs in the basket of what's coming up, and yeah, I haven't really thought too much without it afterwards. I think a lot of people are a bit like that, you sort of, you know, have such a massive opportunity and a huge experience right ahead of you, and you just sort of focus pretty hard on that, and yeah, loose plans and things like that, but yeah, and I haven't thought too much ahead. Good luck. Well done to you. I believe there's a flag that goes around before, does anyone have inquired with you and said whether you'd be available to help out? I mean, I heard a few people asking me, and that sort of thing is pretty good at looking at that really, I mean, I've never even thought that that's sort of like a possibility, like when you're a kid or when you're training, like it's not something that ever crosses your mind. Huge, man. Yeah, it's pretty crazy, but yeah, who knows. Well done. We're all very proud of you. It's great to see how you've continued to keep on keeping in as you're creeping through your late 30s. We can't wait to watch you again on the international stage, Eddie Ocken and well done, and good luck in Paris. Alright, thanks for asking that. Thanks for joining us, Eddie. I'd like to have you back with us, David, this guy on Brett Geeves, with you this morning, we can continue the hoops theme as we do so often here on Saturday mornings, and someone I admire greatly with his work and very familiar with it on his writing with ESPN, et cetera. Steve Smith has jumped on with us. Good morning, Steve. Good morning, mate. How are you? Super. You excited? This boomer stuff that we love and the Opals, by the way, is coming soon, soon. And the how's your levels of giddiness? I don't mind as an absolute boiling point. Yeah, look, I'm really excited. Look, I think the sightseeing controversy decides there's still, you know, it's still a really good boomer team, and I'm really curious to see how it goes. Definitely. We'll get to them, but I think just talking about the boomers and look where they've probably gone wrong, and that's just, the team is what it is at this point now. It is. I'm not going to change unless there's a last minute injury, so it is what it is, and we'll just have to wait and see how it goes. Let's talk about it. Very difficult discussions, and in fact, I'm sure in your time a bit like mine, I've never ever in my, gosh, put my age out here, but best part of 40 years being a boomer's fan since a very, very early age of five or six, I can't remember so much anticipation, so much keenness to know, and people really came to have their opinions. It was an awfully tough team to pick whichever way we went. Yeah. Yeah, I think so. I just, for me, and I've, you know, I've written about it at length, and I've talked about it at length, is that just, I just can't see a scenario. I just don't understand the thinking about leading the team's tribal out. It just for me, he is one of the 12 best players that we could possibly pick, and I know Brian Jordan talked about, well, he's gone for what he considers the best fit, not necessarily the best 12. I just can't understand that thinking that doesn't include one of the 15 to 20 best defensive players in the world. Yep, sure. And difficult decision. It does appear the last call really became between Daniels and Matisse, certainly by the understanding of the dialogue we've obviously got feedback from after the event. Yeah. If that was the last call from my eye, that in itself was a really line ball one. If that's the decision they make, I guess just for the minute park, the other players that obviously were in the discussion to make the 12. Yeah, I think, you know, there's a talk also about, you know, Joe Ingalls was on the bubble. He was on the outside looking in, and, you know, sort of Gordon talked about the second half of the second game against China, how Joe sort of settled the team. And I think, you know, Dyson as well, look, he was on the bubble as well, but I think they take him because of his extra playmaking duties. It just means though that if they've taken him, Gideon and Dally, and also a bit of a kind of lesson in long history shooting from the point that spot, but look Dyson's an incredible defender as well, so he's long and athletic and combined with, you know, excellent green. I think that's a really good career to defend the wing. Yeah, like you say, it's such a hard thing to pick, but that's the way it is. It's a good problem to have. It is, and I think that's from my perspective and, you know, from back three months ago, I struggled to fall under spot for Matisse. It obviously was a tough year for me, and you can't necessarily put all of the Portland spell, of course, in isolation because a very tough place to be when you're in a tanking organisation as well, it doesn't mean you'll always get onto the court, but he's somebody that's really struggled to evolve offensively. And I thought the first game against China was a stereotypical Batussable game. He had four steals, and he was one from six from the field, and most things didn't look like going in. He said a fair analogy of how it was, and I know it's a difficult conversation, the balance of offence and defence. Yeah, I think he still puts more on the table than he takes off, and I think the issue for me is that you can have basically two ways you win at international level, at that top level in, you know, grind it out, defence, or you have some elite distance shooting so that you can shoot over, you know, some pretty heavy physical zone defence. So if you're not going to take the season, why wouldn't you take like a knockdown shooter like Chris Golden? The thinking for me that it just doesn't mesh. If you're not going to go with all of the defenders, then you go with all the shooters, and they haven't done that, and it puts an awful lot of pressure, I think, on young Jack McVeigh, who, look, I'm so excited to see how he goes, because if there's anyone with the self-belief to do it, it's him. But it does put a lot of pressure, because he's realistically the only proper threat now from distance, it really probably depends, I guess, on Patty and Joe, and they've got how much they've got left in the tank, but the signs there are probably, you know, not great either. So we really need one last for us from both of them as well, and look, if they can, great. But to me, there's a real depth of shooting there at the moment. A fair question, Mark, and I think the deli I think none of us even, these greater supporters may have been at the top of that list, had him anywhere near this 12, six months ago. It's a tremendous finish to the year for Melbourne, and I wouldn't say he had a year where he's shooting, he's three-point shooting, and sort of come back to those housing days of nine or ten years ago, but he forced his way into, I guess, you know, we talk about Daniels and Exum and Green, can you get, I mean, Exum's had an excellent two series in a row for Australia, the World Cup, and the previous Olympics, can you get more of an offensive result from Josh Green, can Daniels, I guess, evolve offensively, which would make that decision to leave Matisse off a little better, of course, I mean, it feels like they might be backing themselves in, can we can green average 12 or 13 points a game, for example? Yeah, and I think, look, there were signs there, and obviously the international game was a little bit different, but there were signs from both Exum and Josh in the NBA Finals and throughout that playoff run from Dallas, that there were, you know, signs there that there's some development and some maturity in both of them from an offensive standpoint. So I think it's there, it's unlocking it and how much can they step up this time, and look, in all honesty, I'd be really hopeful that they can do that. It's just, you just don't know, it's such an unknown factor, and I agree, I think offensively the bonus is that that's where we're probably going to struggle a little bit, and just having players that can create buckets from nothing, and Josh, give you going to be super important there, because he's going to have the ball in his hands a lot, and I don't think the game plan will be just for him to distribute, so he will need to score a lot more than maybe we thought he might have to, but I'm excited to see what he can do, if he's got the ball in his hands, you know, 60, 70% of the time, we didn't go to work. No doubt about that, it's a very exciting opportunity for him as well to be able to showcase what we know that he hasn't spent an awfully, awfully tough 12 months for him, he, you go from the world at your feet to obviously the personal issue, which is golly, whatever the case must have affected a lot, the family, et cetera, and then he gets trided, I even saw a little bit of evidence in game two where he cut the bankers and a little bit more straight ball if you like, where perhaps he does have that gear in him, and we think he's got that he can actually, you know, take out a game offensively, and that makes scoring as well, not just facilitate, doesn't it? Yeah, for sure. I think we also saw signs of it, you know, throughout obviously he's NBA-crigated, and I think at the last World Cup, you know, he had, he was a little bit up and down, but the good signs were really, really good, so the potential is there, and I'm really excited just to see him go, because there's just so much talent there, and I think he'll have the confidence of everyone around him, although I think the trade is actually a good thing for him, it was clear that both Jim and Oklahoma needed to go a separate way, that he wasn't willing to come off the bench, and that's fair enough, you know, you're a long time retired, and you've got to make the most of the opportunities in the NBA where they present themselves, so going to a team like Chicago, which also has a young core, and they'll probably look to run more, and that suits me talent as well, so he'll be excited about that, so I think all in all, it's a really good start for him, and yeah, I can't wait, it should be really good. All right, well, let's take us into quarter final, we've managed to get out of the group, which is going to be really difficult, I mean, Spain, perhaps we think they're, perhaps not what they've been over the last 20 years, but always competitive, of course, Greece, let's not call it a one man band, the Beaumont Guard is outstanding, the veteran, they've got a couple of wing shooters, but essentially, it is a Gianna's show with a reasonable one core, of course, and then, you know, can you see a situation, you're a quarter final against America, there's five minutes to go, who's on the court? Yeah, it's a good question, isn't it? If we're within touching distance of the US with five minutes to go, something's gone very, very wrong for America, and something's gone very, very right for us. Hey, Steve, come on, let's just, let's be optimistic. Yeah, look, no, I hope spring's eternal, like, that absolutely has to be. That is such a loaded squad, that, you know, they're really shot badly if that happens. But, look, you know, let's say it's Germany, whoever it is, whoever we're playing, with a game is on the line, we want to get into the semis, because these are big calls, you know, we sure, Patty Mills, are still able to be there and all the things with it, you know. I believe Jack McVay might be on that court at that stage, I'm interested in your views on it. Yeah, look, there's a school of thought that Jack, over the course of the selection camp, not only sort of played his way onto the squad, obviously, but he played his way right into the core group. There was a lot of reports about how, you know, even Matt Nielsen was one of the assistant coaches, he was a couple of days late to the camp, and everyone was like, "Oh, you can see what Jack's doing." He was a bit sort of, not skeptical, but he was like, "Oh, I just want to see what's going on here." And then he, after one day of watching Jack McVay at camp, he's like, "Oh, yeah, no, I just got it with you." So, look, yeah, there's absolutely a scenario, especially if he's caught fire earlier in the game, earlier in the tournament. Like, you want someone like that who's shooting some distance with confidence. I absolutely could see him being out there. He'd probably be alongside, you're probably going to the team as that one-way bomber, and then you've got some... Stretch four or something. Yeah, yeah, that's why he goes smaller, and they have Landale at the five. That's wrong. And then they've got, and then they've got X and Green and probably Giddy. I think so. I think so. Yeah, yeah. I think so. And if they're playing well, Giddy's going to have to be contributing to a lot of those points, whether it be by the feed or scoring, and it's really exciting. We know what the world game has done, and so many of the big names right across the place, American, particularly, still annoys me the job, and beats somehow part of that team. But we really are in a different world, and certainly it's the strongest team we've seen since 1992 from the Americans. But the gap, funnily enough, when we say that, and they're probably going to streak it when gold, it is closing this gap, and I feel like at some stage, they'll have some competition from somebody, and it may not be the bonus. Let's be really clear at that. Yeah, no, look, look, if Canada clicks, they've got a bunch of NBA talent. They're clearly going to be the toughest team for us, so they've been in our group. And so, look, even in their warm-up match, they showed flashes, and there's so many different nuances to the international game that some of the US players will have to get used to. We saw Joel Embiid sail out in 12 minutes of play. He went sail hunting, and international rest will not give him those calls. So, this is something that's kind of fascinating to watch, like on talent alone, they should win easily. The international games are funny on some times, and you can have some upsets, and it only takes a couple of off-games and a couple of people on the other things to get really hot. And we saw Joel Embiid in the World Cup against America, we got 37 in the finals, so he wasn't saying something like him who's just an average NBA scorer. The whole thing, the patty thing, that applies to other players in other countries as well. Definitely. You pull in that national jersey and you suddenly get about three feet taller. I did about it, just a recap, of course. Greece, Canada, Spain, the three teams that are going to be featuring. The Will Magnae pacing at all. It was pretty clear early on in the why they did, and the fact that they wanted to start wreath and jock alongside each other. They're going to need one big back, but it's probably, he's a biddly too. I liked the fact that he was 40 feet out of his, you know, hibernating here, if you like, and seven metres past the three-point line, and double-teaming, and then hustling back on the big seven-foot-four guy from China. He's got a role, hasn't he? Because it's that little bit more of explosion that some stage I think that he might be better suited than Landar, even in some match-ups. Yeah, he'll get minutes. I think they took an extra big because I think Brian's, sort of, Brian Gordon's overreacting, not overreacting, but I think he's looking at what happened at the World Cup, and Landar's limited pride, so when they just went with top rope race, it's the only big, and I think he probably regrets that, he sort of goes outside a little bit. And I think that's the reason Will got picked over Xavier Cooks. I think Xavier Cooks is, obviously, a far more athletic, more versatile defender. I think Brian Gordon looked at it all, looked at some of the teams when he's playing, and said, "Well, I mean, we just need the size, and we probably have enough athletic defenders, and you can gather the way on what the preference is there." But I think that's the thing behind it. Look, he'll get minutes. He is, you know, he's a big dude. He can rebound. He's not going to be needed to score a lot, but he will be needed to put a big body on another big, and that's 5,000, you know, even if he's playing 10 minutes again, that's a really good, I think, indicator of how well he's going. Very exciting. As is the Opals, who appear they like they might be surprised, and if you're after, probably the toughest four or five years stretch, you could say in three decades, almost, in terms of success. The great story is Lauren Jackson, 43 years of age, but she hasn't, she hasn't earned it because the team's known bloody good either, has she? There is a, you know, the seven girls have come back from America, there's some young stars like Ezzy, who keep getting better, they've got a few pieces there that are going to be really competitive, albeit perhaps not against the Americans, who again, are probably more than they've been the strongest team in any sport for so many decades. Yeah, no, I'm really bullish on the Opals and what they can do. They've got a really good mix of age and experience and youth. I think obviously, LJ is LJ, and even at 43, I don't expect her to be our leading scorer, but she's going to be really, really important from a size perspective as well, like there was about three really four really good bigs to sort of rotate there. And like you said, the youth factor as well, which is really interesting because like, I think there's three or four on that squad that weren't even born when Lauren started playing for the open. Amazing. How does that happen? I know it's such a good story, and I think everyone who understands what Lauren has been through. She's sharing for this, because I think it's to make your fifth Olympics 12 years after your four. She should have played in seven, mate. What are you talking about? Yeah, exactly. She was, yeah. And to be able to do that, I chuckle every time I think about it, because it's just so incredible to see about it, isn't it? It means LeBron's 40 and the end of the year, along those lines is in terms of, you know, she's almost four years older than where LeBron's at, and obviously such a high level. And she appears to be playing such a high level. We didn't see the outside shot fall in those China games, but we know she strikes it really well. It really, the bit of a Tasmanian flavor course with Atlanta Smith, the son of, well, the boss here, the jack jump is a devil's great. If you like Darren Smith, Atlanta, she's she's coming in and she's having a terrific year myself. Yeah. Well, she's been great at Minnesota and another one who's been around the block a couple of times as well. This will be her second game, Second Olympics. So, you know, I'm really happy for those sort of players who, and yeah, there's a couple of first times as well. Like you look at Sammy, which can, it's her first game and she's 35. Like she was really unlucky at the last Olympics to miss out. That's unbelievable. What was it? Yeah. Like Kristi Wallace at Indiana. It's Seth Talbot at Las Vegas. There's a bunch of WMBI players back out on the Phoenix. They're all going to be so important. It's such a well-rounded squad. I'm thinking they'll go close to getting a medal. Obviously, I don't think they'll be in the US, but I think they'll be right there for the bronze. And look, if everything goes their way, they could well be in the gold medal game. Brilliant to touch you, Steve. We could go on and on here. There's so much excitement. We'll go forward of course. The jack jumpers we haven't touched on, they've got their international debut coming up in September. I think that's a pretty cool thing to be back in that sort of game. The NBA always in it, to have a representation on the world stage. Yeah. Look, the NBA NBA Games concept is a really, really good one and it's been really beneficial not just to the NBA teams, but just in terms of attracting that next star talent and outside of that, just really good importance to them, sort of come along so I can't wait for that other. Great to have you, Steve Smith. Thanks so much for joining us this morning. Good to talk some hopes with you. No worries, my cheers. Great to have you with us for the day. You can't wait for the foot of this afternoon and finally here in Tassie we get to go down and foot in the hawkers and the dockers. It feels like a big game for the hawks, can they? Can I step up again after a pretty disappointing loss against the cats? And the dockers, can I keep rolling? It's a really good story. We're heading up there, catching all of us up to know myself, Bray Castello and Bray's game. Great to have you with us this morning. Catch you next week.
