I've told you about the weather corridor through the Kingston twin ovals Yeah, you put the HPC down there good luck with player attention. I've told you. Yes Multiple times will not be a good result for an amazing degree It's worst case scenario do the work clearance in the council be patient get the best result Bar that you will want to start into the roofs. It will ends up ends up in Kingston I've worked these ovals it ain't pretty with the weather that flows through that corridor JB through a terrific facility down They don't get me wrong, but I've played some cricket down there on beautiful days, and it's still cold Not to upset the people of King Road. You will give them the jack jumpers They have their own high performance center But for football outdoor sport it does get very windy down there. We need this man to get it across the line for us Well, this man is our next guest It is the mayor of Clarence Brendan Longley welcome to the show Brendan great to be here. Thanks for having me Interesting day yesterday labor obviously were against the stadium for such a long time But they've turned their opinion around on that and they're fully supportive to of Clarence getting the high performance center for our AFL team Must be nice to have that bipartisan support for the project. Oh, it sure is and it's a great It was a great announcement by by the leader Labor Lady yesterday I've been in winter and also great to also have David O'Bern on site as well So with liberals labor and independence, so it's full seam ahead for for Clarence. What could go wrong then? Lock it in the elected poll is going ahead. Definitely. Yes, sadly, we'll go ahead Tim thousands of digits is a very low bar to initiate one of these and We're working through the electoral commissioner and the the group that initiated the poll that the set of questions and That has to be backed by the I have to be conducted by the 14th of August. How many people live in the Clarence City Council? there's 64,000 and All but it's only those that are on the electoral rolls so the electoral commission will advise what that is but yeah This is a cost of $200,000 for Clarence right pose with senior a 0.3 percent increase on on all our rates as a result So so thank you to those initiated the the elected poll and as we know it's not binding But I'm confident it'll come back overwhelmingly in support of the high performance center And you're for now as as the mayor to have everything on the golf course side of of the highways, right? Oh, absolutely. That just makes a great deal of sense. It's you know This this terminology of parklands well until three years ago as we know it was a golf course This is a sporting precinct In having it all retained within the former golf course site It of course retains Charles Hammer Memorial Park as it is all those trees at green space that people value will be retained So this is a win-win for for everyone here Just just on that we had the someone texting earlier about the report council received back in December Advising that it might not be the best site to have everything one on there on the on the parklands side of the ground It said how the combination of site characteristics and estimated cost resulted in no satisfactory option being identified For HPC located fully within the Rosney parklands the report ultimately excluded option a from further consideration That was from David in Hobart. Is that still the case then? What did that report tell you? Yeah, well that was the 11th of December report. It was if you like an instrument by by the staff Very good qualified staff, but the geotechnical work hadn't occurred at that time That's just been finalized. We're expecting the report back very soon It's important to note to the final decision as to the site selection will be made by the state government in consultation with the AFL We've provided a number of options for them. As you know, we went out across the city The only available site is at Rosney. That's the only available site. So these people talking about alternate sites There are none in Clarence. This is it and have they put any forward? Other individuals. Yeah, well, we looked at Gilston Bay. Yeah, we looked at a Bay view out there as well We have people have also even suggested Cambridge, but you know There was a set of criteria outlined by the Department of State Growth and the only site that matched up against that criteria was Rosney Yeah, now you've been out on the on the ground if you like. Do you think they save the Rosney part people? Are they in the they are in the minority? Oh, absolutely. Yeah, you're very well organized 80 development group. Yeah, that comes at swinging every time we want we propose a development in Clarence Yeah, and I saw had this question asked by a few people that had text through Do we have the same issues when we put the retirement village on the other side of the golf course? So why is that? Oh, you'd have to ask those individuals Yeah, it just it just baffles me It is so bizarre that every time we want to take a step forward in the city of Clarence There are those it'll knock and and just work seriously against it It is so disappointing and this is an amazing opportunity for the city of Clarence. Absolutely Yeah, you've you've been a part of high-performance centers for many years now and for our for our footballers have access to You know state-of-the-art a training facility will be absolutely fantastic to 70 million dollar investment in the heart of Clarence It'll bring economic and social benefits to our city like we have never seen before Absolutely and importantly it'll provide a pathway for our kids Yeah, we are building for the future. This is that this is a key Step towards us getting the team. We need to build the high-performance center. We need to build the stadium We need to have our VFL VFLW teams in the competition by 2026. Yeah, it's an ambitious timeline All that work you're doing now, which you said is almost complete to test the site, etc Will that be available before people take part in the elective poll? I really don't know to be honest Brent, but that's something that's but they've been engaged by the Department of State Growth So that information will will be available to DSG and the AFL that will inform their decision as to where you know We're the evils and the training administration's facility goes You know from my perspective it's important. We keep pushing ahead because we can't simply stop for two months Because of an elected poll Devil's Chairman Granite Brian put out a letter to the devil's member saying that they were still invested in vested Vestigative tip. Thank you Brent. We're going on it. Was that a surprise to you? No. No, we're aware of that and working with them Yeah, no, we've been working with them. So any fairness To to to grant and the board and the devil's you know, they've also looking at the site be is is king But yeah, it is a twin oval so they're also doing best to get investigative work there But yeah, you also what what Grant also said in that email to foundation members was that the preferred site is Rosney and it's it contained wholly within the the golf course site. Let's not forget to this is a 14 hectare site This is a huge site. Yeah, and you know two ovals and the training administration facilities will take five to six hectares Yeah, I mean, you know, there's gonna be plenty of green space. Well, it's and it's been a golf course for how long? Oh, over a hundred years Incredible it is staggering at times. Are you worried though that you know? kimber is a live option their council fully supports it you guys over there are still sort of a little bit split I think there's a few more in favor than not but are you genuinely concerned that you could be sat on this now? It's a risk. Absolutely. But what we did unlike kimber was we went out. We consulted with our community You know last year they didn't do that They as a council are united absolutely sadly since day one we've been divided seven five And that's been consistently since day one on this issue Five of my colleagues don't want the high performance center in Rosney However, the majority do and I'm confident that we're reflective of the majority of our community Overwhelmingly people want the high performance center to the five who don't want in Rosney wanted in Clarence Oh, they say they do. Yeah, but I'll go back to my earlier comment. There's no other site Yeah, how serious are they? I mean, let's be fair think of if you don't want it say you don't want it. Yeah Don't don't sort of you're allowed to take us inside the the chambers of the Clarence City Council How does that all go down? Is it is it strong healthy debate? Between the seven and five or is it voices being raised is it heated? No, I'd like to think at all times It's respectful. They're very passionate views on both sides of the debate But as I say there have been five that from day one have just been dead against it and now we're against every consulting with our community It's just incredible. Yeah, you know, so so now there's a move to have his elected poll It will happen at the cost of $200,000 and again I'll come back overwhelmingly in support of the high performance center I'll leave you with the texts from the Harkorps open line Brendan for mr. Blomley Will the CCC hold the naysayers to account for harassing borderline Abusing people to sign a petition when they are simply trying to go about their day That's from an unknown texture on the Harkorps open line. Yeah, sadly some of the conduct throughout this debate hasn't been respectful The number of people have contacted me complaining about the way that they've been approached. They've been harassed Forced to sign the petition. That's unfortunate The the elected polls happening now and I just hope that we keep the debate respectful at all times Well, it's not what happened to George Bailey. Is it? No, I told this story George got a knock on the door one night and answered the door said good evening. They said oh, you're no good to meet and walked off How long there wasn't a select on? Brendan Blomley Mayor of Clarence great to have you in the studio Thanks for your time and good luck moving forward with the Harkorps performance center in Clarence Thanks so much.
