That's right It's first victory against Australia in any format in yesterday's 20 run 21 run super 8 victory at the T20 World Cup and to break it all down for us this morning It's over to you the former test captain of this country to talk us through this shock result Was it that big of a shock? Yes. Why because it's a game. We should have won in those conditions We spoke about this at the start of yeah, we yes, we should have won we are a better team But remember the start of the tournament. We spoke about conditions Wearing as this tournament goes on pitches starting to spin teams like Afghanistan are going to be super super dangerous They've got high quality spin dangerous batters Those conditions closed the gap and let's you don't have to go back to the last game. We played them They would have beaten us in the 50 over World Cup too had Glenn Maxwell Not gone berserk. They were all over us We've been on this tournament though. We've been flying really heavily. Well, not really anything. I think the last two games We should have really really poorly Really poorly and that's that's not a great sign. I don't think For me, it's that shows a team who is slightly off for whatever reason mentally physically tired Not not as switched on as they should be fielding is a is an attitude and an effort thing at that level they are all high quality filters and The last two games against Bangladesh and Afghanistan our fielding has been nothing short of waffle Yeah, yesterday was hard. That's not just to say it for saying it's sake. Yeah The fielding has been really really poor. Yeah, and it's and it's fitness in the backside. Yep There's no doubt about that. No doubt about that Where's it go? Let's go back to the start of the game. All right selection So we leave out Mitchell Stark And again, they'll say oh hindsight you can say that to him by what I said at the start of the tournament He was our out now at number one. Did I not picking him in every game? And I don't know if he's injured But are you telling me that those Afghanistan batters would have been lining up to face Mitchell Stark left arm six foot seven 150 Ks can swing the ball Takes a wicket in the first over sets the tone more often than not What I want with a with a brand-new ball, which I said when England played Australia is it you either went really high quality spinner or pace or movement Mitchell Mitchell Stark has all of them. He has pace. He has height He has swing, which is crucial in the first couple of over the t20 if you're balling straight They tear you off. He can move the ball through the air. He bowls a 150 Ks He's a left arm angle. He brings variety. He plays every game for me Particularly against a team like Afghanistan who are talented, but they don't facing Mitchell Starks Ever no they get to face him once or twice a year if he gets one right in the first over He's hitting pad or stumps every time. That's the first thing he for me should be playing every game Secondly, I didn't understand and I don't mind winning the toss I'm bowling, but one the conditions to me at that ground The games have been played in the World Cup every second innings has been lower every team batting second has lost Yep So we win the toss and we bowl So if I'm bringing in a second spinner that tells me that the wicket is going to spin so it's going to be harder to bat More likely most likely in the second innings. So why are we dropping a fast bowler for a spinner and then choosing to bowl first That didn't make a lot of sense to me Is there a third point? Not really okay Well the third point is they outplayed us. Yeah, there's no doubt about that But I think Mitchell Starks for me should be playing every game and I wasn't convinced on the decision at the toss to bowl first If you're going with that second spinner Was always going to be harder to bat you could see that the evidence in the tournament has been batting second at that ground has been harder every game Yeah, Starks our mission was interesting to me too He also brings variety. He's left army. It's different. You've got you've got Hazel Wood or Cummins. You've got Marcus Stornis You've got Mitch Marcy. You've got plenty of right arm options that can all bowl You throw Mitchell Stark and he can come around the wicket. He can bowl over the wicket. He can swing the new ball He can he can create different angles which makes batters hit the ball to different parts of the ground so you can defend them easier and he's just an out-and-out gun and that all the three quicks are but Starks his record in big games First over is incredible and he would for me He's someone that can set the tone and get you off to a fly. So he plays every game So does your gut feel to you that they left him out because they're confident in getting it done or he No, I think it was a conditions based and it's a it's a really really tough call when you've got Mitchell Stark, Pat Cohen's and Josh Hazelwood and you got to leave one of them out to play his second spinner And I think it was the right call. I just would have gone with one of the other two Purely because he he does what he does in the first over and he's a left arm and he adds gives me more variety But I think the call to play Ashnaiga was the right call. It was right cool Yeah, but wicket was spinning a lot even in the first over. He spun one that far But if you're going to go with the second spinners, let's put him in the best possible Conditions and position which would have been for me to bowl second on that wicket. Yeah, so it makes it tough Yeah, doesn't it. Well, not really well, he's got a win or we could actually lose and go through mmm Because it's not an Afghanistan play each other So if Afghanistan wins that they go. Sorry if Bangladesh beat Afghanistan everyone's on two points except for India So we could we could lose to India and still go through or We could beat India Afghanistan beat Bangladesh and we still don't go through mmm So how bizarre is that we could win and go through win and go through we could win and not go through he could lose and go through It's bizarre of course. That's all for mischief though Tim had we won yesterday. Yeah, but we can beat India Yeah, we can we play well of course we can point we play well we can beat anyone But for me the worrying sign has been our fielding. That's what Australian teams are around for especially in big moments big tournaments and big games Our fielding has got us over the line in tight games before and at the moment the last two games In particular have been ordinary, and I think they'll be the first to admit that just quickly because we're gonna get to a break South Africa flying under the radar. They aren't they they are flying. Yeah, two literally under the radar Yeah, England have just belted United States So they are through which is another bit of salt in the wounds for me Brenna after I said we could have dusted them out They are through And South Africa will play the West Indies at 10 30 this morning with the winner of that likely to go through with England So it's great. It's getting to the pointy end the crickets been excellent the conditions have been challenging And the next week is going to be fascinating to see how it all unfolds and to see how this Australian team responds most of the time this group of cricketers have responded in a positive way and got the job done So hopefully they get the job done against India and they push on you nine and forklift's end of financial year sale is now on secure a cat forklift for only twenty seven thousand nine hundred ninety dollars plus GST It is breakfast powered by Kubota take on any job with Kubota's range of tractors mowers and utility vehicles Loving your texts on the Harkorts open line this morning Harkorts results for you get us on hope for three seven double five two five three five We're a minor we've got Brendan Blomley the city of Clarence mayor coming up after eight o'clock If you'd like to send him a text do that right now or give us a call 1342 1533 ♪ Just tell me ♪
