(upbeat music) - Hello, race fans, and welcome to Disc Golf Daily. We are the podcast that gets caught up with Disc Golf News and growth in about 10 minutes, saving you time and effort. If you wanna dive deeper into any story, as always, links are in the show notes. Our number one news story today, Team USA wins the President's Cup. Yes, it is a team event. Yes, Team USA has won it 12 times in a row, but we can still glean some interesting nuggets heading into the second major of the season for the men, third for the women. First, though, how exactly did Team USA win and who was on the team? The team consisted of, from left to right, Paul Ulabari, Missy Ganon, Ella Hanson, Calvin Heimberg, Eagle Wind McMahon, Ricky Wysocki, Paul Macbeth, Anthony Burrella, and Ganon Burr. In round one, the three hottest scores were all scored by Team USA, Paul Macbeth with a 24, that's eight down over nine holes. Ricky Wysocki with a 26, and Eagle McMahon with a 28. Albert Tom gets an honorable mention as the best scorer in round one on Team Europe tying Eagles 28. On the women's side, Kristen and Ella led the women, which arguably should see equal representation in future iterations, note to the event organizers. In round two, in the round two match play matches, Team USA won six of the eight matches. Notable performances by Paul Macbeth who went four down and likely just played safe after going up three after the first three holes against Simon Lazade. Yes, Macbeth is hot and loves these courses. Ricky Wysocki won two of the first three over Nicholas Antela and won by two. Ella Hanson also won two of the first three holes over Kristen Tata and ended up beating her by three. Evelyna and Maury Vilman would get the only two Team Europe match play wins, but it was not near enough as Team USA won the two nine hole round battle, 34 and a half to 17 and a half. My big takeaways, Paul Macbeth birdied eight of the first nine in his first match and his first three in the second match. 11 of the first 12, a great start for Paul Macbeth. Our number two news story of the day, European Open Primer. The event presented by Discmania is being held July 18th to July 21st. Today is the first day. It is the second PDGA major of the year for the men and the third for the women. It is being played on the beast at Nokia Disc Golf Park, which is about 92 hundred feet and the monster at Tampere Disc Golf Center, which comes in around 10,750 feet. The monster appears much more technical and has OB on 10 of the 18 holes finishing up on the famous submarine hole. On the beast 12 of the 18 and when you see the submarine hole, you'll understand why they call it that. On the beast 12 of the 18 holes have OB, including all of the last four and the OB gets quite tight on a couple of them. Coming down the stretch is going to be very fun to watch and at the end of the rounds, virtually no lead will be safe. Looking at the finishing holes in fact, holes 15 to 18 may be the least boring finishing stretch on tour. We'll find out on Monday from what Brian thinks. Listen to these scoring spreads on the beast on the last four holes last year. Hole 15, 23% birdies, 35% pars, 38% bogey or worse. That is insane. Hole 16, 41% birdies, 39% pars, 20% bogey or worse. Again, crazy spread. Hole 17, little more traditional in the spread here, 26% birdies, 54%, 54% par, 20% bogey or worse. And then you get to hole 18, 43% birdies, 34% pars and still a quarter of the players getting bogey or worse. Every one of these finishing holes has two stroke swing possibilities. Both of these courses are beautiful and a joy for the players to play as well as the rest of us to watch. When they are challenged but happy, the spectacle is on. And this weekend, the players will be challenged and happy. The weather forecast is showing chance of showers, Thursday and Friday. Temperatures should be in the low 70s all weekend. Once we get through the possibility of rain early on, it should be beautiful finishing up for the last couple of days at the European Open. When to watch, DGN Pro goes live with the women at 1 a.m. Eastern and the men go live at 7.30 a.m. Eastern. One thing to remember though, with the new DGN platform you can watch from the beginning whenever you wake up. I've been loving waking up with the European events and doing the breakfast grazing thing while watching Kristin and Silva go at it. Get ready for some fun spectator. And if you can't watch it live, Jomez Pro will have all of your post-produced stuff. Past winners, Corey Ellis and Paul McBeth have seen recent success at the European Open as has Eagle win McMahon. On the women's side, Kristin Tatar, Paige Pierce and Katrina Allen have dominated this event for five of the last six years. Not counting the one that didn't get played. Question of the day. Shoot me an email for three disc golf daily points with your guesses, which is more likely to go to a tiebreaker. The men or the women? Just shoot us that email, the men or the women. Actually, we've got two more questions for you. So stay tuned to the end. Play-off rules at the European Open. The final round will be played at the beast and the playoff holes will be 16, 17 and 18 sudden death on repeat. And I'm guessing it's not gonna last long with the scoring spreads on those holes. Past payouts, last year's purse was just over $100,000 and I expect that to be beaten by quite a bit. Second disc golf daily question for your email. Payout over or under is set to $113,000 by me right now. Will it be over or under that amount? Include that in your email as the second question. I'm gonna go a little on the wild side for these picks for our predictions this week. Kyle Klein shows up and grabs the major victory. Paul McBeth gets second, tasting a bit of the medicine he gave Kyle at the USDGC. And Nicholas Antela and Ricky Wysocki tie for third. A four pick podium may seem like a cop out, but it won't seem like it when it happens. On the women's side, we're gonna see a lot of names in the mix for the first couple rounds. Also, here's our third question of the day. There will be 7 1,000 rated rounds by the women during this event. Do you think I'm right or will there be more or less? We will see Kristin, Onakin, Silva, Ella, Rebecca Cox, Hannah and Evelina all performing well. I am looking for Rebecca Cox to perform well above her rating, threatening for the podium. Evelina will definitely podium likely second because Kristin is going to win, but not as convincingly as we expect. And there you have it. Now turn this off, turn DGN on, and let's go European on this thing. Thanks for watching. Please share the podcast with your friends and give us a rating. It really does help. And email your three guesses to Disc Golf Daily at aol.com. Answer question number one, which is the tighter playoff, the men or the women? Question number two, will the payout be above or below $113,000? And question number three, will there be more or less than 7 1,000 rated rounds in the women's division? Have fun, throw 'em straight, and hit the thin gap. (upbeat music) - Thank you so much for watching. Please like, subscribe, comment, and share. It really does help us grow.
