[MUSIC PLAYING] Hello, race fans, and welcome to Disc Golf Daily. We are the podcast that gets you caught up with Disc Golf News and growth in about 10 minutes, saving you time and effort. If you want to dive deeper into any story, links are always in the show notes. Today, we give a preview of the fast-growing True Bank Des Moines Challenge. The broadcast-- live daily broadcast Friday to Sunday. That starts tomorrow-- FPO multi-card coverage begins at 10 o'clock Eastern. MPO multi-card coverage begins at 3.30 Eastern. First round on YouTube, all three rounds on Disc Golf Network. You got to tune in if you want to watch. [MUSIC PLAYING] The history-- the Disc Golf Pro Tour returns to Des Moines, home of the 2004 Pro World Championships, which, just for funsies, were won by Barry Schulz beating out Ken Klimo and Brigida Lagerholm, who beat out desk-reading. Barry and Brigida won a combined $6,700. Last year, just for reference, Ganon and Kristen won a combined $25,000, more than four times as much. And the event had a total payout of $110,000. Yes, we've come a long way. And wonderfully, we have a long way to go. And Disc Golf Daily will track the coming growth as we live it. Ty Tannett will be of the DGPT will serve as the tournament director and run the event with the Des Moines Metro Disc Golf Club. The Des Moines Challenge started in 2001. It's been held over 20 times. It first became a national tour event in 2005 and was first on the Pro Tour in 2021. [MUSIC PLAYING] MPO Champions of the Pro Tour iteration have been Paul, Simon, and Ganon. FPO winners were Missy and Kristen, with Kristen winning the last two years. This is a storied event, a beautiful course, and will almost for sure come down to the final two holes. [MUSIC PLAYING] Let's talk a little about the course. Pickard Park was notably designed by Juliana Korver, five-time world champion. The current iteration of the course has the men playing 9,600 feet and the women playing 8,100 feet. Both come in at a par four-- sorry, both come in at a par 64 with a single par five on hole 10. This course is pretty much right in the sweet spot of where Disc Golf Pro Tour courses are. The final two holes are both par fours, with hole 17 being a placement shot out of the woods to an OB carry to an island green. As a side note, the island green is in the shape of Iowa, which is a great shout out to a nice place to grow. Hole 18 lines the left side of the fairway with OB, and is an easy par if you're playing for par, in my opinion. If there's a two-stroke lead going into the final hole, I'm calling it it's basically over. Now here's something fun. The DGPT has added on this new feature. Just listen to this. The Pro Tour is introducing an exciting new feature to the DGPT lineup, the Thursday practice pass. Not only will you have exclusive access to the live press conference, but you'll have the chance to preview the course firsthand with the featured pros during their practice round. That is so cool. I love that the Pro Tour is doing this. This is a fantastic way to have a cool, one-of-a-kind experience. The Des Moines Challenge feature practice, featured practice round kicks off at 10 a.m. Central time. That's local time for the event on Thursday. And it features Ganon Burr, Isaac Robinson, Alden Harris, and Gavin Babcock. Plus, this Fourth of July edition practice pass is also going to be followed by a barbecue with free food, free food. I heard free food. I want to be there. Our predictions for this event. Ganon Burr has this on lockdown. Ganon for the win in front of his hometown crowd. I see Simon Lazott and Chris Dickerson filling out the podium, and I expect them to both play well down the stretch as they move up the point standings. I say down the stretch. I mean, the season. Other players to watch. Can Anthony Barela continue to stay relevant and nab another top 10 finish? Can Andrew Presno make another push to get a top five and hold on to his top spent 10 spot in the point standings? Every position is going to matter when going into the Tour Championship. As our dark horse, we are going to call out Luke Humphries to thrill us again and push for the lead card. On the women's side. I'm looking at Holland, cat merch, and Rebecca Cox to come out firing. Missy and Owen will hang close, but in the end, a newfound confidence will spring from Holland as we approach the European Open. This is going to be the most exciting second half to a disc golf season we've ever seen. Can you imagine? Let's pretend Holland wins. We've got Sova winning five in a row. You've got Evalina, Hannah, Kristen, and Onikin. You've got a lot of other European women, too. And they're all going to be meeting the American women all at the European Open in just, what is it, four weeks now? This is going to be so exciting. I also expect D.N. Kerry to make a little noise this weekend. I have a note and I forgot to say it. So you heard that here first. So get your burgers and beverages ready. The Pro Tour is in Iowa this weekend, and there will be fireworks. That does it for us today. If you have any thoughts, news, or opinions, shoot us an email, discolfdaily@aol.com.
