[MUSIC PLAYING] Hello, race fans, and welcome to Disc Golf Daily. We are the podcast that gets you caught up with Disc Golf News and growth in about 10 minutes, saving you time and effort. If you want to dive deeper into any story, links are in the show notes. Today, we hit on Pro Tour standings, The Points Race, and PDGA growth. But first, the news. Here we go. Our number one news story, Stokely Discs purchases Jeng? Congrats to Scott on this one. He has apparently purchased the rights or the molds or the rights and the brand or something to one of the more iconic brands from back in the day. If so, Stokely Disc just got a lot more legit in the eyes of some of us more seasoned players. Look for the Juju, one of their putters, to be released first, sometime soon. Our number two news story. This is just a bonus PDGA approval. Normally, they only approve discs once per week. But the captain's thrasher from Discraft has been PDGA approved. It is apparently a more overstable thrasher. Our number three news story of the week, the independent advocate, DGPT comes to town. The local newspaper for Des Moines, Iowa, put together a great article letting people know that the Pro Tour is coming to town. I love these articles since there's a correct presumption that there are a lot of people that care about disc golf and would like to know the best players in the world are coming to town. Thank you, independent advocate. And now it is time for PDGA growth and Pro Tour standings. Let's start with Pro Tour standings. Ganon Burr remains on top, quite comfortably, for now. Resurgent Ricky Wysocki is climbed into second, and it just feels like he's going to catch Ganon before the season points are crowned at the playoff events this year, which are GMC and MVP. He does have a good ways to climb, but it just feels like Ricky is hungry again. Anthony Barela has had his best finish since Jonesboro, seventh at the preserve, and it would be fun to see him in the mix again. He's fourth in Tour points. Paul McBeth sits in 14th and is in full Europe mode. On the women's side, 10 points, 10 points, separate the top four. A win is worth 100 points, second is worth 85. 10 points separate these players. If any of them win, they are on top. It's basically a tie. 1,025 points for 1st, 1,015 for fourth. Yeah, this is basically a statistical tie. And just so you know, none of them are named Kristin, who hopefully returns in just nine days at Crocol. Evelynna, Owen, Holland, and Missy are 1, 2, 3, and 4. This is ridiculous how close and exciting this is. And just so you know, everybody's interested in Sova Sarnan. She has climbed up 12 spots since the beginning of June and is now in 14th in Tour points. This is shaping up to be the most exciting year for the Tour points race ever. In the money race, Ganon Burr is also out in the lead with 67,000. Nicholas Ontola has earned $52,000 this year. And Anthony Calvin and Ricky are all basically at 47,000. On the women's side, Owen, Evelynna, and Kristin are the top three money earners at 36, 35, and 32,000, respectively. Now, just so you know, this only includes Pro Tour events. So elite series and majors, but not age protected majors. So the money that owned one at Pro Masters is not counted in that. Sova Sarnan is in seventh place in the cash race and has earned 60% of her 2024 earnings in the last month. Wow. Ganon earns almost $4,200 an earnings per event and leads the men in that statistic. Kristin earns almost $4,100 per event and leads the women in earnings per event. The FPO cashline at Sweden Open was 910, which is, in fact, the lowest of the season for the women. The FPO cashline was 1,004 tied for second lowest of the season for the men. Excuse me, for the men. I remember when the Big Maple Hill event, the MSDGC back in '05, '06, '07, was viewed as a cash-rich low rating event. I thought that was great. As one of the code tournament directors, I thought that was great because it would encourage more players to come. I would expect this to happen to these DGPT Europe events as well. As players look at the ratings cashline in Europe versus America, more players will embark to Europe a little earlier. I don't know if the splitting of the field is a positive or not, time will tell. I will say, getting more players the opportunity to get on coverage is a positive, as it will build their brands. So maybe this will be a good development. Either way, I would look for the fields in Europe to get stronger and stronger over time, with Americans going over there and more Europeans being on to PDGA growth. Pro payouts is the one highlight. And if we just measure the top 20 PDGA earners from 2023 to 2024, payout is up 20%. PDGA approvals. At this point in 2023, there had been 170 baskets or disks approved. In 2024 so far, there have been 124 down about 30% out. PDGA events basically flat as it has been all year. If only all the stats were flat. Participants in these PDGA events, at this point in 2023, 330,000 people had played PDGA events. In 2024 so far, we're at 306,000, down about 7 and 1/2%. Regarding PDGA membership, there are currently 113,500 members. We are on pace for 131,300 members by the end of the year. That is a 4% drop from 2023. This number is tending in the wrong direction. There's really no way to sugarcoat it. Having said that, if we'd been given the choice in 2019 of having 130,000 active PDGA members in 2024, we would have taken it all day as it is over even the best growth projections of the time. So all things with a grain of salt. The floor is not dropping out. We are just adjusting back to the anticipated growth. And it is taking almost exactly as long as we projected. We will likely see one more flattest year before moderate growth in PDGA memberships picks back up in 2026. Meanwhile, the sport as a whole continues to grow. Listen to the podcast from yesterday with our U-disc course growth. And we finish off, thanks to the players' meaning with the reminder on this one, Ed Hedrick's 100th birthday was last week. Good catch, Charlie. The founder of our game deserves to be remembered every year, if not every day. Thank you, Steady. We miss you. That does it for us today.
