[music] Hello, race fans, and welcome to Disc Golf Daily. We are the podcast that gets you caught up with Disc Golf News and growth in about 10 minutes, saving you time and effort. If you want to dive deeper into any story, links are in the show notes. Today we talk about course growth and our United Rankings, but first, the news. Our number one story of the day, statmando stats recap. Calvin Heimberg finished tied for 44th at the Swedish Open. Tied for the final position above the cash line, Heimberg's cash streak is extended to 47 consecutive major or elite series events. That is the longest active MPO streak, and he did it by the skin of his teeth. Heimberg has earned over $190,000 during the streak. Thank you, statmando. Silva Sarnen wins the Swedish Open, her fifth consecutive victory. Silva Sarnen won by five strokes. She led in circle one putting, Silva can putt, 24 of 25 from circle one, 11% parked, 65% scramble weight rate. She is tied for second with the most consecutive wins in 2019, Paige Pierce had five, and over 2017 to 2018, Paige Pierce had seven. Silva won every event in June. What's next for her? July. Our number two news story, Netflix's corporate team building, Jack Tragasar of School of Disc Golf and AJ Munoz of Above Gravity are growing the sport in their own ways, but one way they are both growing the sport is by encouraging groups to play disc golf as a corporate team-building exercise. Yudisk's release point blog discusses how Jeff Shee, engineering manager at Netflix bought what Jack was selling. "I wanted to try something most people haven't done before," said Shee. Team outings can become repetitive and we wanted to try something new and build new experiences. The barrier to entry is pretty low and it's something everyone can play and enjoy. They played doubles, likely based on Jack's recommendation. You can have one person taking a conservative shot and the other person taking a high risk, high reward type of shot, said Shee. The game taps into everyone's competitive nature but also allows teamwork. I saw people on my team pointing, strategizing, cheering, laughing, and occasionally friendly trash talking, disc golfers in the making. The event culminated in the type of epic fashion that every disc golfer and event organizer dream about. There was a pretty intense moment. You've got a 40 or 50 foot putt with winning and bragging rights on the line. The shot left the hand a little wobbly. It followed a curve, hit the chains and went into the basket. Everyone burst out a big cheer clapping, screaming, gasping, and congratulating the winning team. According to Shee, on the drive back to the office, people were still talking about it in the car and reliving the moment. That's what a team-building event is all about, having those memorable moments that you can take away with you and your team. Witnessing the thrills and camaraderie that disc golf can provide, Shee decided to head to his local course with his teenage son and felt immediately welcomed by the disc golf community. For corporate leaders, having a few of their employees find a new healthy hobby, maybe a small side benefit of team-building with disc golf. But for Jack and AJ, it's a big reason they started running disc golf events in the first place. Growing the sport, one corporate team-building event at a time. Our number three news story, PDGA-approved discs. Discmania has a new putter called the Notion, PDGA-approved. Supersonic Discs has their fourth disc PDGA-approved, it is called the Sugar Glider, it is a fairway driver. And Compound Discs has their third disc PDGA-approved, it is a putter called the Path. Our number four news story of the day, Bristo Disc Golf announces that they've chosen their course designer. Quote, "We are proud to announce the name of our Disc Golf course designer, Kyle Gibson is as excited as we are to bring this project to fruition." And then they go on to highlight some of his accomplishments and achievements. And it's just a great article all around, it also talks about that he's been the tournament director for 2024 Junior Worlds right there in Oklahoma, where the course is going in. Now why is this so great? Obviously, every course has a course designer, but Bristo Disc Golf is literally announcing their course designer. It is time that we recognize that a good course designer is worth their salt. They matter and it is worthy of publicity. Go ahead and say we're building a course, this is our course designer, they are awesome. This is a great step. I applaud Bristo and Kyle on bringing another course to Oklahoma and letting the world know about it. Our number five news story of the day, just a public service announcement, PDGA elections are going on, link in the show notes if you did not get your email to vote, let your voice be heard by voting in the 2024 PDGA elections. And our final news story of the day, green splatter had a really good article I thought called play it, well, that I, that I retitled play a tournament. The vast majority of disc golfers play disc golf recreationally, that makes sense. But it is so easy to dip your toe into the competition waters in disc golf. You can go to a local random doubles league or a local seat here if you really want to dip deep. But practicing a course with the purpose of playing in an event where it matters helps focus your play. It makes you care just a little bit more. If you're like us obsessed with disc golf, experience all the sport has to offer. Playing an event is one of those things. And lastly, this might seem like a weird one, but having thrown a tee shot approach or putt under some kind of pressure makes makes watching the disc golf pro tour that much more satisfying. Unite might not be the second coming of Paul McBeth, but if you've chosen to compete on at least one occasion, you'll be better able to understand and empathize with what he's going through for better or for worse. As always, green splatter, well said. Now, let's talk course growth and who's number one. All right, we had 24 new courses in the past week. That brings the average number of courses every week up to 21.8. We still sit at 3.1 courses per day. I estimate that we will have 16,232 total courses at the end of 2024. That's over 1,100 new courses. And an annual growth rate of 8.22%. The United States had nine new courses in the last week, Canada had four, Norway had three, Estonia had two, and Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Italy and Hungary all had one. So now let's talk United Rankings of Disc Golf. They didn't change much. We had an event over there in Europe. Ann and Burr still leads, Ricky is in second, and Calvin Heimberg is in third. The biggest movers and shakers, Joey Buckets Anderson gained three spots and he's ranked 20th overall. Bradley Williams also gained three spots. He's ranked 23rd overall. On the women's side, Kristin hasn't played in a while. Things are getting very tight at the top. Kristin is still the number one ranked player according to our United Rankings, where we combine our rankings, stat, Mando, power rankings and dgpt standings. Missy Gannon is closing the gap right behind her and owns Goggins is right behind both of them. Holland and Evelina are both in the mix. So Vasarinen has made some great moves. She moved up three spots and is currently ranked 8th in the world. That does it for us today. If you have any thoughts, news or opinions, shoot us an email, disc golf daily at aol.com. Have fun, throw them straight and hit the thin gap. (upbeat music)
