Kutter Crawford working on a little extra rest pitched 6 solid innings in helping the Red Sox to an 8-3 win in the series opener over the Miami Marlins Tuesday night.  Tuesday was the 1st of 6 straight games on the road for the Red Sox.  Crawford, a Florida native, allowed just 1 run over 6 innings of work.  Crawford did not walk anyone and struck out 7 in improving his record to 4-7.  Sox are now 5-12 in his first 17 starts of the season.

Sox got on the board first with Rafael Devers knocking in a pair of runs in the 1st inning with a 2-R single.  Ceddanne Rafaela made it 5-0 with a 3-R HR in the 4th inning.  It was his 9th HR of the season and first since homering at Toronto on June 17th.  Masa Yoshida and Konnor Wong delivered RBI singles in the 7th.  Wong's hit, his first of the game, extended his hit streak to 16 in a row.  Yoshida had a 3-hit night. Jarren Duran, who stole a base in the 2nd, also homered in the 8th, his 10th.

#'s of the Night- Red Sox have now hit at least 1 home run in a season-high 12 straight games (22 Total).  The 3 Red Sox pitchers did not walk a single batter and it's the 9th time this season where they haven't allowed a single walk.

On this episode, we're also going to talk about the Sox hitters, providing Alex Cora with a lot of different options. And we're going to take another peek into the future as well. Our latest episode of the Lock-Dawn Red Sox podcast brought to you by Fandell. Make every moment more as playoffs wind down. The sports stop sports scene like we want them to. But this Summer Fandell is hooking up all customers with a boost or a bonus daily. That's right. There's something for everyone every day all summer long. Visit fandell.com/lackdawn to get started. Well, Cutter Crawford gets a start in the opener Tuesday night. Red Sox off day after winning the series finale and avoid being swept by the Padres on Sunday at Fenway Park, off day in Miami Monday. Crawford gets a start. Remember, last time out, his start was shortened because it was the suspended game against the Blue Jays last week and Boston. So Crawford gets the start, has an early 2-0 lead. We'll get into that in a moment. But Crawford, 1-2-3 first inning. Retired the sign in order on nine pitches. This is a Miami team. Now 25 games under 500. They've gone south. Tim Anderson, DFA'd before the series against the Red Sox got underway Tuesday night. He's gone. There's probably going to be some other guys moving in trades as well. They've also been hit with the fact that a couple of their starting pitchers down with injuries for the rest of the season and into 2025. Some of those guys were projected to be on the move before the trade down deadline, which is now at the end of this month of July. But Crawford, again, 1-2-3 first inning, nine pitches. 1-2-3 second inning, nine pitches again. Gave up a hit to the number nine hitter in the third. There are 21 pitches total in that third inning. But then came right back. Fourth inning, 1-2-3 go to the Marlins. Crawford, 52 pitches, 13 pitches total in the fourth inning. 52 through the first four. Burger touched him up for a home run in the ball game. That came in the fifth inning. Now I went from TV and Nesson to radio, E.E.I. in Boston, Joe Castiglione, Loom Erlone. I'm driving my car, getting out of my neighborhood, hitting Route 1, Boston Post Road. And Loom Erlone says, hey, this is not really a team that hits home runs. Loom, guess what happened? Burger, home run. Now it wasn't a no hitter intact or anything like that. If it was, and Lou told me, I would have wanted to know. I'm not holding against him. But those were basically the first words that I heard. Marlon's aren't really a home run hitting team. That's not verbatim. Burger, home run. Two out single, nothing else doing. Now Crawford in that fifth inning where he gave up the home run to Burger, rebounded beautifully. Struck out the next hitter. How many pitches, three? Struck out the next hitter after that. How many pitches, three? Took them out for the sixth inning. One, two, three went to Marlon's. Went down. Going through that lineup. Hot knife through a butter. You know, I've never been able to say that right. And I got it there, I think, pound on the back for me. So Crawford's 72 pitches. Goes to the first base dugout. Back to the Nesson broadcast, back home. And Crawford is in the dugout. And he's talking, I believe it was with Connor Wong. And all of a sudden he flashes a smile. And Dave O'Brien and Will Middlebrook's pretty much stating, you know, it looks like he's done after six. Again, I state. And I'm starting to understand Alex Khora more and more of these pitchers that are in this rotation. They mentioned it again tonight. Tanner Hauck has already gone over his innings from last year. So he's gonna work extended innings beyond what he did last year. Fingers crossed stays healthy. Same for Cutter Crawford. He's getting these guys out. And tonight I understood it even more because you had the day off yesterday. And the bullpen's fresh. But what the Sox did was they also added on. So no Kenley Janssen. And I'm loving that that Kenley Janssen has a couple days. Remember, I think it was the red series, where he worked three straight games. Capable of doing that. Do you want to go down that road often? No, you don't. So out of the bullpen Crawford, six NH3 hits, one run. The home running allowed. No walks. Love that number. Seven strikeouts. First pitch strikes. 16 of 21. And again, Will Middlebrook's on TV. Lou Merloney on radio for the Sox on Tuesday night. Both saying at different times. This is a Marlins lineup you can take advantage of. They go up there hacking. They don't see a lot of pitches during a pass. They may not have read Moneyball. They may not have seen the movie Moneyball. They swing early in the count. Am I saying undisciplined? No. But once they were down in the game, and guys are swinging like that, it's like, hey, you know what? I got my at-bats. I'll get my knocks tomorrow. Tomorrow's another day. I didn't necessarily see that. Now they got the home run. Then they got a couple of runs against Zach Kelly as we turn to the bullpen. Kelly gave up a home run to Jesus Sanchez. And they can hit home runs. There's some boppers in the lineup. One out single, two runs scoring in that. Ending to make it 7-3. Jaren Duran, home run. We'll touch on the offensive moment. We're then Bailey Horn. Bailey Horn. Crawford goes six. Bailey Horn goes two scoreless. His second outing, since coming up and making his debut over the weekend. Not only with the Sox, but his big league debut as well. And I'm wondering right now, Bailey Horn. Get it up there with the fastball. Another option in the bullpen for the Red Sox. And a fresh arm. Because you can keep-- you hide them down in the minors. You pick them up. I don't know what his numbers are completely over the course of the season so far. But you have to absolutely be thrilled with what Cutter Crawford did in his start against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night. Six game road trip off to a great start. You'll win the game 8-3. Eight runs, 13 hits. Into the lineup in a moment. Hey, put some balls in play as well. Errorless baseball for the Red Sox. Love to see it. Love to see it. So the Sox are now six games over 549. They've won three straight on the road. And Crawford, again, shorting outing last time out. Wednesday against the Blue Jays. Club now. Five and 12 and is 17 outings. You'll take that. Fifth win and 17 starts. He has given up at least one home run in nine straight outings. But again, I'll live with that. Connor Wong, base hit. Connor Wong delivering. Connor Wong is now hit safely in what is 16 straight games for him. Now, Jaren Duran had a stolen base early on. I looked up these numbers on baseball reference earlier today. The Sox had actually gone. It was the running Sox. The go-go Sox, right? They've gone five straight games without a stolen base. Duran reached with two outs. And it wasn't any more they didn't get a run. But again, they got to the starter early. And with that, Duran had a two-out walk. It was in the second. His 21st stolen base of the season. He was in scoring position. Tyler O'Neill retired. But a touch on Tyler coming up in our next segment as well. But the Sox fast start offensively. O'Neill, one out base hit in the first inning. Will your abreya crush to double off the wall? And they both scored on a hard hit single off the bat of Raffi Devers. Devers had two runs single right there to make it two nothing. RBI's 46 and 47 on the season for Raffi Devers. Seydon Raffiella. And Will Middlebrook said it after it is three run in the home run in the fourth inning. Just the beginning for Seydon Raffiella. I'll tell you what, Raffiella healthy. Will your abreya get these guys going in another stretch? Can it be before the all-star break? Get one more good stretch. Everyone in the lineup is going. And the lineup is clicking. It might be close again. Raffiella number nine on the season to go with 44 RBI's. Had just one home run in the month of June. Look that up. It was June 17th on the last road trip and he homered against Toronto. So nine home runs total five, his splits five on the road four at Fenway Park. And what the Red Sox did tonight against Valente Balazzo. And I heard his name pronounced a couple of different ways. But Balazzo, just looking at it, his pitch count was up there. Early, 50 pitches over the first two innings and 87 through four. So you got to the bullpen. You're right where you want to be against the Marlins teams. That is now 25 games under 500. You're right where you want to be. You take game one. You can't sweep a series against a bad team. You can't sweep a series against any team. You don't take game one. Now you're set up. Now you look at Brian Bayo tomorrow. OK, you're not down on one in the series. Bayo, big start for him. I do believe it is. Not only for the team, but really for him as an individual. As a member of the starting five that you want to go out there every fifth day, every sixth day with a day off mixed in extra day of rest in between there. Another sign for the offense. Masa, Yoshida, RBI hit. Third hit of the game, that in the seventh inning. Then Wong thought with an RBI single to extend the hit streak, as I mentioned, to 16 in a row. Another nice sign in that seventh inning. Yoshida, RBI Bayo's hit with two outs. Wong, RBI Bayo's hit with two outs. So they added on. And with that, Marlins weren't within striking distance. 8-3 victory, Kenley Jansen rests. Kenley Jansen, you know where you really want him. Upcoming weekend against the Yankees. That's where you want Kenley. You want him for that series. You want him fresh, ready to go. So Cutter Crawford, terrific. Early runs, Raphael Devers. Two run base hit in the first inning against Bayo's and the lineup. We're going to touch on that coming up next as well. Everything coming up, all smiles for the Red Sox as they do pick up the win again. Six games over the 500 mark. Lockdown Red Sox postcast. But no stand zone. Give you plenty of numbers and segment number one. We've got a segment that we call Numbers of the Day or numbers of the night and our third segment. So no stand zone here. Try not to give you any real stat numbers, all right? For this segment right here, going to try to do my best. All right, here we go. So this is one of those where we're going to get into in case you missed it. The rosters for the 2024 All-Star Futures game, which is sent for Saturday, July 13th at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. We're going to get to that in just a moment. But something that I noticed and Alex Cora's line up from Tuesday night, the flexibility in the lineup. You've got hitters, where you can put in a lot of different spots in the lineup. Not only do you have that, rarely do you ever hear-- I haven't heard it once since we started doing this three weeks to the day, right? I haven't heard it once where a guy in the Red Sox lineup's like, well, I don't like moving around in the lineup. I like that in the number three spot or I am the cleanup hitter. We've seen Tyler O'Neill move around the letter. We've seen Raffi Dever's move, 3, 4, 5 as well, right? So Tyler O'Neill for Alex Cora was in the number two spot in the lineup on Tuesday night in a series opener against the Marlins in Miami. In recent weeks, Alex Cora hasn't really had a steady number two hitter in the lineup. He's had David Hamilton there. He's had Rob Refsnider there. He's had En Manuel Valdez there. He's had Romi Gonzalez there. He's had a lot of different guys. Well, you're a brand you has been in that spot. Now, Abreu, late May was in that number two spot consistently. But since then, it's been every couple of days another number two hitter. Tyler O'Neill was also-- so there is a number here. The Red Sox have had 10 different players in that number two spot in the lineup this season. When Alex Cora has made out the lineup, what was this? This was game number, I think, 84. But O'Neill in there for the sixth time in the season and for the first time since late April, but again, one of those things. The hitters that the Red Sox have this year, they can move in different spots in the lineup. You like Rafaela 9. You like Duran in that lead-off spot. 9-1-2, Hamilton gives you a speed option with a little pop in the bat when he hits second. But Tyler O'Neill in there for the first time since late April and that number two spot in the lineup. And in the first inning, got it going with a base hit. Ended up scoring on the two-run base hit, off the bat of Raffi Devers. So something I noticed, the lineup, a lot of flexibility there with the different hitters that they have and those speed guys, Duran from the left side, Hamilton from the left side, those speed guys, you can put in a lot of different spots in the lineup. Power bat behind Duran and Tyler O'Neill on Tuesday in the opener. Let's see what it is with the lefty Rogers on Wednesday. I would imagine Rob Ressnider is probably gonna be in the lineup somewhere, getting ahead of ourselves. Again, I touched on this. I got a little bit of a head of myself. But in case you missed it, rosters for the 2024 All-Star Futures Game. It's gonna take place Saturday, July 13th at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. rosters announced on Tuesday, catcher Kyle Teal in Fielder Marcello Meyer will represent the Red Sox and the American League Roman Anthony has also been selected to participate in the future skills showcase that will take place, I believe on Saturday, July 13th as well. So this is the 25th year of the Futures Game. Not sure who came up with the original idea, but if that person is still working for Major League Baseball, I think even present day, even if they got a pump and pay, a raise, salary increase at the start of the calendar year, give them another one. It's always been a popular event. And thanks to Fran Jonathan Mayo with MLBPipeline.com. He reminded me earlier today that the first ever Futures Game took place 25 years ago. Yeah, think back 25 years ago, do the math. I did it today. Came up with 1999. What team, what ballpark hosted in 1999? The All-Star Game. Yeah, Fenway Park. That was the first ever Futures Game that was held by Major League Baseball. I think it's a great event. Again, Roman Anthony's gonna participate in the future skills showcase catcher Kyle Teal and Fielder Marcelo Meyer. They'll participate, represent the Red Sox in the Futures Game and the American League roster as well. Those guys may not be in Portland much longer. So if you're gonna go to a Portland Sea Dog game in the coming days or if they're on the road, I'm not even sure what their schedule is right now. But if you go to more Portland games than AAA Wooster, you might wanna get an autograph from Teal or Meyer because something tells me that those guys are gonna be bumped here in the next couple of weeks. And they'll be in AAA I think for the second half of the season after the All-Star break. Another note, reports on Tuesday. Liam Hendrix is continuing with his bullpen sessions. Gonna ramp it up again this week. Still on track to return at the end of the month. I don't wanna hear about Kenley Janssen being traded. I just don't. First of what's gonna be many reminders this month, Trade Deadline Tuesday, July 30th, 6 p.m. Eastern. I don't wanna see Kenley Janssen traded. I wanna see Hendrix come in and I wanna see that do in the back of the bullpen. Eight ninth inning. And Hendrix to me, never met him, but the personality is there. I don't think he's gonna mind being the eighth inning guy in front of Kenley Janssen. And then if Janssen goes twice back to back games, you've got Hendrix there. If you haven't used him in those games where you can use him in the closer situation as well, I'm all for it. I am all for it. Yes, I went away. It was not the no-stat zone. I gave you the one with Tyler O'Neill and that number two spot in the lineup and using 10 hitters. But overall, some news and notes there. Socks win it, eight to three. We're gonna have numbers of the night. And we're also gonna take a look at the pitching match up. Brian Beow gets a start for the Red Sox in game two of the series on Wednesday in Miami against the now 25 game under 500 Marlins. All right, we are getting into our numbers of the night. Red Sox pick up the victory. Six games over 500 and they will try to clench the series against the Marlins with game two, Brian Mayo, the pitching match up against Trevor Rodgers, we'll get into that in just a few moments. So Cutter Crawford got the win. Six innings, one run allowed, Tuesday night. Crawford fifth win on the season. Actually, now four and seven though, I'm sorry, four and seven record. Team with five victories and a 17 starts. But Cutter Crawford, the team's record overall not good. But Crawford, remember, got off to a great start. So giving up the one run over six, a quality outing, Tuesday night for the Red Sox to get the road trip off on a positive note. It's the seventh time this season that Crawford has allowed one run or less. It is the ninth time this season where he's given up two runs or less in an outing. The Sox, two home runs. State on Rafaela, three run shot, Jaren Duran, solo home run. So the Red Sox have now hit at least one home run in a season I-12 straight games. In this stretch, I think the number is now up to 24. 24 home runs during this stretch, I believe that's where we're at. But two more home runs and Rafaela would have slowly made Earl Weaver happy as he hit the home run with two runners on base and they pick up the victory again. At least one home run in a season high, 12 straight games for the Red Sox. And that's a great start. That's a great number right there. 22 total, that's what I was looking for. Had hit at least one home run in 11 straight and 17 total back in May. So 12 straight with a home run and big home runs, adding on to leads, you'll take that. And this is a number that, yeah, I paid attention to it every single night because it's a great number. And the Red Sox have now done it for the, what, nighttime this year? You might know the number, zero, Crawford, seven strikeouts, no walks. Kelly, one strike out and one, any no walks. Horn, two innings, one strike out, no walks. The nighttime this year that the Red Sox pitchers have combined for zero walks. You take that, right? You'll take that and you'll take that and run with it. So when Cowsky Sunday, Crawford Tuesday, Brian Bay will keep it going. Pavetta will go on the finale, day game, Independence Day on Thursday, then in New York. The Red Sox are gonna be heading to New York. I just thought of this. Thursday night, they're gonna get done. I think game is either 105 or 135 on Thursday Independence Day in Miami. I'm sure the roof is gonna be closed. Couple hours, what, four hour trip? The Red Sox are gonna be heading to New York. Probably, I might even land. I'm not sure where they're flying into. But they may actually be in the air while the fireworks are going off in New York. Now we know, we know. I'll be in front of the TV. Don't we know Red Sox Thursday night? I'll be in front of the TV watching the fireworks from Boston. But a start for Bayo that that's an important one. It really is. After his last outing, I said bullpen or minors. Doesn't have another. He's got two more starts likely before the All-Star break. So he would miss the Yankee series likely after tomorrow. His next series would be at home against the Oakland A's. I believe it's the A's and the Royals to wrap up before the All-Star break. But Bayo needs to go into the All-Star break, feeling good about himself. The Red Sox need to go into the All-Star break, feeling good about Brian Bayo. He has given up a home run to Josh Bell. He's given up two hits to Nick Gordon. Jazz Chisholm is over three in his career, three at bats against Brian Bayo. This is a lineup he can attack. This is a lineup where you can get outs early in the count. If he's working deep counts against this Marlins team on Wednesday night, you got to kind of scratch your head a little bit. Wonder what else is there? Game a couple extra days, he tinkered. Maybe they worked on some things. Maybe just got a little bit of a breather, a mental break as well with a little extra rest. But it gets a start against the Marlins. Not, you know, it's pressure, but you know, it's nothing more than what he's gone out there on a game day where his number is called. Just go out there and pitch the way you're capable of pitching. Down in the zone, tack the hitters, don't nibble, throw your pitches. Let them get themselves out, they can do that. You get in a gym, you've got runners on base, don't break down mentally. That's Brian Bail, go out there and do it. He's capable, he's certainly capable and he's going to be needed in the second half of the season. Marlins will have a left hander, Trevor Rodgers on the mound. Numbers, I'm not going to say similar to Cutter Crawford, but he's got a one and eight record entering his start on Wednesday against the Red Sox. 4-8-7 ERA, so he's pitching almost to a five ERA. He is pitching to a five ERA at home. He's on for the season and he's got a whip of over 1.5, 1.56 is the whip. That is something that I'm looking into more and more. I like that, that's good indication. Walks hits allowed in innings pitched. Devers, two base hits, a double against Trevor Rodgers. O'Neill, over three, a couple of strikeouts. Dom Smith, lefty batter. See if Dom Smith is in the lineup. Two for four, career against Rodgers, the lefty and a run batted in. Again, he's 0-4 and nine starts at home this year. His last victory, here's a guy that is starving for a win. His last win at Detroit on May 15th. So, Marlins are just three and 13 in his 16 outing, so that's where similar to Cutter Crawford. And he's given up 10 home runs this year. Most of those, I think eight of the 10 home runs allowed to right-handed batters and he gets a start against Brian Bail. That will be the series finale or the game two of the series or the Sox and the Marlins on Wednesday. And a reminder, we will be on within minutes of the last out, perhaps talking about another Red Sox victory. A lockdown Red Sox postcast follows each and every Red Sox game all season long.
