(upbeat music) - Hello, welcome to The Hammer. I'm your host Dave, turn his always on my co-hosts. - Greg, how's it going guys? - And it's Steve, huh? - You're listening to us at Live at 93.3CFMU, this wonderful Wednesday night. You can also find us at thehammermymay.com. - And aziktademymay.com. - It is Wednesday, July the 6th, and it is a very muggy and hot day where we are, but we're gonna keep our cool and talk about - Oh. - Dumbened crews and awry Faber. - And this is a card that was better than that intro. (laughing) - It really was. - At least you tried. - So let's start with crews and then Faber. This is Cruz's chance for deem himself against the only man who's ever beat him. This is Faber's chance to get what he really, really wanted, the belt. So this is a story of two guys that really want what each other has. Cruz wants to be a star if he wants to be a champ. - I love that countdown special. It was like understated in that their guy suggested, they're not going over the top. I want them murdered this guy, like some of these guys do. They're just like, I don't like him. He loves me the wrong way and I want what he has. - Well, I don't think those guys, I think if it were over the top, it would just look like bad acting 'cause that's just not the way those guys are. - That's right. - You know, they're both guys that you actually want to root for. And I mean, there's no real villain in this case. Though Cruz was getting booed, you know, because I guess favors more popular, but favors was the most loved guys that I've met. - At the same time, I mean, a lot of people love Cruz. So trying to paint one of them as a super villain probably wasn't the best idea to sell the card. - That's right, and the fight delivered. - Oh, absolutely. It delivered what I pretty much expected. I mean, there would be very few people who would call against a decision. Most people probably expected this go to decision. - Well, my call was, I think Cruz is going to win by decision and favor was, it's going to be by submission. - Mm-hmm. He never really got very close to one at all. - Yeah. He made it a couple of nice shots though. - He did it in a couple of nice shots. He dropped Cruz in a couple of rounds. With that being said, the story of the match was Cruz is just so much faster than-- - Yep, fast in an orthodox. - You know, coming in at weird angles, throwing weird shots, it doesn't stay in front of you and swing. - The amazing thing is he does this every fight now. Like he's going on four or five fights using this style. - And five rounds. - And for five rounds, he doesn't get tired. And no one catches on. No one figured this out yet. He just does it to guys over and over and over again. - Well, the thing is, I think everyone knows the style. It's coming at this point. It's well scouted. Everyone's looking at it. But no one knows how to counter it yet. - Yeah, definitely. - No one needs to know how to train for it. Who else fights in a style for you to be your sparring partner? - Faber tried something about waiting for people to try. Just walk right through it and punch him in the face. That didn't work either. - Well, the thing is, I mean, you have to look, this is the Bantamweight division. How many guys really have solid one-punch knockout power in the Bantamweight division? - No one will. - And that's the thing. You're not going to hit Cruz more than once at a time. - Well, for guys that came close, Faber's one of the stronger guys in the division. - Absolutely. I would say he is. He's probably the strongest guy in the division. - He definitely dropped Cruz a couple of times in the couple of shots. The problem with it is, is, you know, Jordan Sin, who also has one-punch power in the division. - No, not to Faber's tower. - But he's a tough guy. With that being said, the problem is, Cruz is so unorthodox and he's always diving in and out. You hit him with a shot and you don't know if you've hit him or if he's just diving out. - Yeah, exactly. - And both times that Faber and Jorgensen dropped him. - Yeah. - When both of them managed to pull it off, neither one of them jumped on the guy for the kill because they didn't know if he was dropped or not. - Yeah. - They didn't know if he's dropped or if he's jumping back, if he's jumping forward. - That's definitely sort of an aspect of his game that not a lot of people talk about too, but it's very, very effective. - I was so fascinated by seeing him the duck and dodge and weave around and then he stops, catches his breath and like starts the routine down over again. - You could see him, he'll do a heavy breathe and you'll think, oh, is he gas? - No, he's just reloading. He's like a robot, like he's been programmed. It's amazing. I'm fascinated by it. - Yep. - And he's, I don't know who could beat this guy and let them in. - And having met him, he's a cool guy. - He is a very cool guy. - With that being said, Faber definitely rocked him with a brutal shot in the fourth round. And after that, you could just see the spring went out of cruises steps. - He got it back. - He got it back. I mean, but he definitely, that's the way you beat this guy. He really is a video game character. He's so fast and so-- - You got to make his energy bar go down. - Fragile, I can see him. If you can hit him hard enough and slow him down. - Fragile to a point, but not fragile in the sense that you'll hit him once and he'll go out. - True. - Right, he recovers quickly. He scrambles well. What I thought was really interesting about this play is I had a really difficult time calling any round for either guy, except for the fourth round, which Faber won. - Yeah. - But, you know, the judges gave it to Dominic Cruz and I agree too. - I agree. - He's the champ. - And I agree, I think he won. - I had the fifth round solely for Cruz because he was called for the takedowns. I had the first two or three rounds for him. Definitely the first two 'cause I think you definitely have a point in favor on his feet. The third and the fourth I thought were favors 'cause Faber definitely caught him in both rounds and dropped him in both rounds. So to me, the guy who gets dropped is obviously less effective than the guy who's doing the dropping. Now, I mean, again, this one is so close. Anything could have happened. - Yeah, for sure. - When the judge said 50, 45, I had-- - That's a joke. - One, that's a joke, but two, I didn't know who he meant. - Yeah. - When the guy, when they say 50, 45, and I am not sure which guy gets that, that's a fight they could go either way. - Yeah, it can go either way, but at the same time, it was not 50, 45. - No, well, I thought they might have gone 50, 45 favor off the track for the two knockdowns. - Oh, honestly. - I was briefly, well, so I say scared that, but because the fourth round-- - But I had the first one. - The fourth round is the only round that I'm like favored definitely one that. There's no way that could be 50, 45. - Yeah. - But close fight, and now what's next for Cruz? Like, there's already people talking rematch. - A rematch? - I think you should fight someone else first. - Yeah, so I think favors gotta fight someone else before it comes back. - Favor's on three failed title shots now. - Oh yeah, that's true. - But the, well, so who do you give 'em? Do you want some Mighty Mouse probably? - Isn't he gonna drop to fly weight though, or when's that division coming in? - Well, not till, not probably six months. - Oh, okay. - Yeah, 'cause they also mentioned that in the post fight press conference, they mentioned Mighty Mouse, so-- - Well, Mighty Mouse is there. There's other guys in the division. - I would've said bowls. I would've said bowls that bowls look better. - Yeah, he'd find on the same card on their card. We'll get to that, but if they had said him, I would've went through it with bowls. - I mean, there's definitely stuff for Cruz to do, and the other thing is, if you're gonna put Cruz back with favor, do it when he could film him for an ultimate fighter. - Yes, yeah. Those two in the ultimate fighter would be amazing. - Agreed. - You know, like, it needs to happen, so. - And I have to say, I love favor. How can you not love favor? And he could win that belt on any given night, but make him win another one for him. - Make salad for all his, I mean, that alone is worth putting him on the ultimate fighter. But I wanted him to win a fight before he gets another title shot. - Yeah. - Okay, fair enough. - So, we go forward-- - I just want to see those guys for the interview, too. - We go forward to Wonderland Soul vs. Chris Lieben. Wonderland came out looking like his old self, going berserk, didn't work for him. Chris Lieben soaked it up and counter punched him with a brutal uppercut. Wonderly grabbed for a clinch. - He was married to that clinch. - And he just wouldn't let go as Lieben landed after uppercut after uppercut until Wonderland melted. - I don't think Bondurley respected Lieben's close in sort of punching power. I think that he figured Lieben would hit him a couple of times and it wouldn't do much. But Lieben got that first uppercut and you could tell that the first uppercut rubbed Silver's legs and then they just kept on coming and he just went right out. - 29 seconds later, yep. - 27 seconds. - 27 seconds. - Yeah, there was a time when his chain might've been enough to take that punch until he grabbed that tie clinch. - Yeah. - But the problem with Wonderly is he's such a brawler with, you know, not the most technical striking. He comes forward rushing at you. You know, exactly what he's gonna do. - I disagree. - And he has that tie clinch. - I mean, I know that's his style. He fought smart against Bizbank. He would not have won that Bizbank fight if he didn't fight smart. - Yeah, that's true. - I think he looked better in that fight. - I think what goes to his strategy, right? He had a brawler strategy coming into this Lieben fight because he figured that he was stronger and tougher and more powerful than Chris Lieben and then he was wrong. - Yeah, I think that after all the years and all the mock-ups, I don't think that his chain is what it is. - Oh, his chain's definitely weaker. But I definitely think, I mean, if he came in with a better game plan, he would've had a much better chance. But if they're gonna stand and bang, it's gonna leave him. - Well, I mean, if Wonderly come out with a give the game plan of, I'm gonna low-kick, dive away, and pick him apart with my job, then yeah, but that's not Wonderly. I don't think he's next to you. - I think he could definitely execute that. I think he's a good enough fighter that he would be able to do that. And I mean, as you said, he fought very smart in the Lieben fight. I mean, not in this big fight, but he just didn't want to do that. He wanted to give the fans a great show, and he figured that he would out brawl Lieben. And that's not the case. - No, it's not. - Oh, brawling Lieben is not easy. - And Dana White in the press conference afterwards said that this should be Wonderly's last fight. It looks like he's got him on the chocolate L trajectory. He wants him out, he wants him done. Do you guys think he gets another shot? Or is it just a time to go? - I think one knockout's not enough. Keep him around, one more fight. - Well, I mean, one knockout after two-year layoff over a win over base ping. Fairly good win over base ping. - Yeah. - After seven losses before that. - It wasn't a different weight class. - Yeah, but like, Wonderly, it's clear that he's not getting to recover that prime. He's 36, or 35 now. So, I mean, you know. - Which, I mean, in normal years isn't really that big of a deal, but in pride years, that's right, you've been able to be 100. - Yeah, exactly. I think he's got, to be honest, I think he's got another fight in him. He looked so good in that bizming fight. I really think that he came in here with a dumb strategy. And I think he didn't have the win on his mind. He had the show on his mind. - I think they should do what they did with Chuck Liddell, give him like a fight like the Franklin fight. A guy a little less likely to knock him out, and if he still gets knocked out, count him. - Yeah. - So, we go forward to Dennis Weaver versus Matt Wyman. This one was a really close one. - This is a fun one, I enjoyed this fight. I really did. - Yeah. In the first round, Wyman was going for takedowns, was not able to get them. Seaver was definitely winning some really good stuff on his feet. And the second round, Wyman got the takedown and just absolutely crushed Seaver with ground in a pound. - Great elbows. - Brutal, brutal elbows, ripped Seaver's face open. - I cannot emphasize enough how important elbows are. And like they, just one shot and you open a guy up. And only some guys use them still. It's amazing that everyone doesn't use these elbows. Like how do you watch bones versus Hamill and not go elbows are my strategy now? - Yeah. - If you're putting them to ground, I see guys that use them and use them poorly too. - That's true. - I mean, well with that being said, Seaver obviously did not have a good grasp on how to defend himself off his back. Wasn't really good at recovering guard. Wasn't able to really control Matt Wyman's posture. - He's hard to get to the ground, but once you get him there, he's like a turtle. - I think he was a little bit cocky from the Sato fight. I guess he figured that he's a little bit cocky from the Sato fight in that Sato couldn't take him down. So he figured Matt Wyman probably couldn't take him down either. So he didn't train that aspect. - Wyman pulled it off. Now the third round, Seaver was again, Wyman was looking for the takedown, Seaver was looking to avoid it. This was a really, really close round. Seaver, Wyman did get a takedown in a submission time. Seaver managed to get the takedown back when it rushed at the end. - Yeah. - I kind of had Wyman out pointing him in the third round. I thought Wyman won this one, 29-28. But the judges gave it unanimous to Seaver, 29-28. - I thought this was a draw. - Yeah, that round was really close. I thought the whole fight was really close. I called it Seaver 29-28, but I can see it going other way. I believe FightMetric gave it to Wyman to Wyman, but Seaver struck him. It's been very, very close. It could go other way. - To me, as I said, the strength of the third round, that round was close enough if that's not a draw, nothing is. But because nothing is, you know, as these judges, quite kind Wyman and women. My favorite line from the press conference, though, was somebody asked if Wyman got robbed, and Dana said that, oh, I picked Seaver, but Justin Bieber picked Wyman, 'cause he was sitting with Justin Bieber. So Bieber thinks it was a robbery. - Yeah, wow. - Okay. (laughing) - So, Mom was on-- - Bieber just jumps like 10 cool points in my book, the fact that he watches UFC. - It can score a fight. - It can score about poorly, but-- (laughing) - Fuck you. - So, you and Justin Bieber agreed again. - Nothing wrong with the Biebs. Anyways, Wyman was kind of a bad sport after this. They announced the decision, he obviously thought he won, he ripped off his shirt and discussed and stormed out of the ring. Seaver was obviously very, very grateful for the win. Afterwards, in the press conference, Gjard said he would be happy to fight Seaver again. - I can't wait for that. - And when you call a guy out, sitting in the press conference, that you've knocked out before, I mean, Seaver can't back that down. - He can't back down. - Absolutely not. - He has to accept that. - Yeah, for sure. I mean, his translator answered for him, but I'm pretty sure that Seaver was, like, Seaver's eyes said yes. (laughing) - So, which I was next to. - Before this, there was Ortiz versus Bader. - Oh, man. - I think-- - Do we have to talk about this? We really have to talk about this. - It's like you can comment on this. - I'm not commenting at all. - I'm gonna comment then. - I'm stating mute on this one. - I'm a big Bader fan, have been since, you know, the Ultimate Fighter, you know, we all really like him on the show. - Yeah, a little teetoh. - When Teetoh walked out there, punched him in the face, took him down, and then, ground apparent him, and then submitted him, it was beautiful. I never felt happier for a fighter than Teetoh getting that win. He saved his job, he looked awesome, he got to do the grave dig again. Amazing, loved it. - Teetoh definitely needed the win. Bader came out looking very, very bad on his feet, very uncomfortable, which is weird, 'cause he's not that bad on his feet, but he just looked awkward and stumbly. - He took this fight too lightly. - And then, Teetoh just caught him and grabbed the guillotine, choked him out. - You know. - Teetoh came in. I remember, I think it was you, Steve, who was saying that Teetoh had a really odd look as he was coming in the ring, and you were like, is Teetoh scared? - He looked terrified. - He looked terrified, but honestly, that was the BJ Penn intensity, I think. But in a different way, he was like, that's, I guess, how his intense look is, because that, like, the way he came into that fight was the way BJ Penn came in against Matt Hughes. - It had to bother him that if he loses, he's cut, and that everyone's expecting him to lose. Like, to be a fighter, regardless of if you like the guy or not, to be a fighter, everyone thinks you suck and you're going out there to die, it's gotta do something to you. - Especially if someone likes Teetoh or Teetoh. - That's right, and he came out there and he looked great. I mean, who knows if he can keep this run going, but I was glad to see it, I really was. And hopefully, Bader can bounce back, 'cause Bader's awesome too. - Well, I mean, the thing with Bader is, and I love Bader, I think he's a great fighter, I think he's a great guy, right? For God's sake, stop training with CB Dalloway. - Yeah, you said this before, and then this-- - I cannot stress this enough. - This is the first time I really agree with you. I've disagreed with you on this before. - Go to AKA. - He has to go to AKA if I was serious wrestlers like Cain Velasquez and John Fitch and these guys, and go and learn to be a monster. - Yep. - The monster that he is, yep. - You know, this guy clearly, for a phenomenal wrestler, he does not strike particularly well. He's not a well wrestler. - He's got power though, he's got power. He does not have to eat his power. - Everyone's got power in 2.5. If you're at 205 pounds, you don't have power, what are you doing in the division? Drop down. - It's the rock band who has their buddy manage them. Like, he's gotta step up, because he has so much talent. I mean, he should have a title. He really should have a title if he was training with AKA. - If this guy had more comfort on his feet, so he wasn't getting punched out by two or T's of all people, then, you know, he'd be a serious guy. If he had the ability to use clinches and his upper cuts in his knees, then he'd be a serious guy. But as it is, this is the second time I feel, the first time I saw him fight his fight, he said, "Fight a top guy," was John Bon's Jones. You lost, whatever. Bon's was free. He's gonna beat everyone. Tito or T's, this is a fight you were, this was a gimme. You were supposed to win this fight. You were supposed to end Tito, - Could not be why I lost. That's as Greg said, he probably took a lightly. - He took a lightly fight. - He was tweeting in the cage. - Yeah. - Like, that's taking a lightly. - Yeah. - Tito, I think that Tito has really stepped his game up, and also another thing about Tito, a little side note, he was definitely the star of the post-fight press conference. - He's so awesome. (laughing) - I forgot how much I loved cocky Tito. - You know, I haven't been the biggest Tito fan, but he, I guess he's won me over now. I mean, it still sucks that Bader had to lose, 'cause Bader's one of my favorite guys, but Tito, he looked great in the ring, and he looked even better in the post-fight press conference, so. - You gotta win. I'm a lucky punch, I'm a lucky 18, good for you. But. (laughing) - David's not convinced. - I mean, okay, you beat Bader. There's still a lot of guys left in the division. You've already lost to Hamil. You've already lost Liodo. You know, you called out the winner of "Forrest vs. Shogun." Forrest, you've already lost to "Forrest." And you know. - I think he would beat "Forrest." I think right now, if he steps into the ring, the way he stepped into the ring against Bader, he would beat "Forrest." Shogun, I'm not so sure. But "Forrest," I think he could definitely handle. - We'll see how that goes. - I'm into this comeback tour. So am I. - Yeah, I think I'm thinking, you know, he's gonna walk into the next point he's gonna walk into is obviously gonna be a guy who's a head of Bader. - Yeah. - One way or the other, whether it's "Forrest" or whether it's "Forrest" or Shogun. - If he fights Shogun, he's in trouble. - Yeah, I mean-- - And if he goes above that, where he's not gonna take it on Rampage, Rashad, Jones, those guys are all gonna murder. - Oh yeah, of course. But, you know, the guy's doing this little comeback. He gets a win. He's sticking around for at least two more fights. I'm cool with it. - Yeah, fair enough. - Okay, so then we go forward to Carl's Condit versus Jones, home Kim. - Yeah. - Wow. - Wow. - This was, you know, our expectation for this was that Kim was gonna hold Condit down for a couple rounds and Condit was gonna just kind of power through it in the third, like David McDonald. - He didn't even wait for that. - Condit's just decided not to wait for it. He just rushed Kim, club him with a couple shots. Kim went falling back. So Condit followed him in with a flying knee. - That was so great. - And then went in with the punches and not-- - He's speed bagged up against the fence or that was amazing. - Or that was ridiculous. - Violent, vicious. - Condit is awesome. - He is just awesome. - And Condit does the thing that I think is great of all fighters. They're saying that he can have the next title shot after GSP and Diaz. He's like, nope, I'm not waiting that long. I'm gonna fight again. Get me out there. And he wants to fight his teammate. He'll fight GSP for the belt. This guy-- - He called out GSP in his post fight here. He said, you know, am I in the title conversation yet? Yeah. And then he said, oh, I don't want to wait for it. Give me a fight in the meantime. - Awesome. Tough dude, respect him. - I would actually be more worried about Condit against GSP than it would about Diaz against GSP. - That's GSP. - That's, yeah. - Because the guy is 6'2". He is not small. You know, you think people don't, people think, oh, Kim is so big. Condit's bigger than him. (laughing) - He called the comment, "Definitely had enough size to take on Kim." - Yeah. - He's gonna be bigger than GSP. He's got phenomenal knock-up power. He's buried, he buried hard, he buried Kim back to back. - And you know he's a hard-- - I'm very McDonald. - And you know he's a hard enough worker that he'll work his wrestling to nine. - And he's a scrapper too. - Yeah. - He will fight with you. - Yeah. - Well, if these are GSP's next two opponents, I don't think we're in for any more boring GSP fights. - No, absolutely not. Not for a while. - I don't think Condit can have a boring fight. So that was great. - That was great. - That was great. - I loved it. This being card was so amazing. - Yeah. - Those fight fights. That's why I love MMA. The knock-out of the night here, well deserved. There's actually a couple of containers for this, but Condit probably earned it the most and flying me. - A couple of them were on the free spike prelims. - Yep. So going forward to the free spike loom prelims. Melvin Guillard took on Shane Roller. Roller was coming at him with some punches. Guillard caught him with a brutal counter punch. - Bad idea. - Just jumped on him. - Bad idea. - Guillard just got nothing but killer instinct. - Why would you stand with Guillard? (laughing) 'Cause Roller's really not a striker. Despite knocking out Tavares last fight, he's not a striker. Not like a yard. - I'm a big roller. I've been a big roller fan for a little while. - You happen. - He, wow, did he look, he just bad strategy. Bad, bad strategy. - Well, the other thing is Guillard is so fast, it's hard to close on the guy to get a good shot on. - This is true, yeah. - It's hard to wrestle. Guillard's got wrestling credentials. - He's got great. - He's not a striker, he's a wrestler. - In a lot of ways, he's the most dangerous guy in that division. Yeah, I believe that. - I certainly think he's the most athletic guy in the division. He's certainly the fastest. He's certainly the guy who has the quickest hands, the best movement. - Yeah, for sure. - Like, I honestly think that, like, - And he calls guys out and never shuts up, so that's even better. Dana told him to shut up during the post-war press conference. Because he goes, "Are you the silent as I said?" (laughing) Oh, and also that press conference afterwards is great too. Oh, I love that whole night of fights. All right, so what was next? - Guillard is called out Seaver, which, and again, given that Guillard has been on such a crushing win streak, I don't know why he was in the prelims, and Guillard was on the main, or Seaver was on the main car. - Exciting fights, Spike TV. - Fair enough. - Yeah. - And before that, Sodoropoulos versus DeSanyos. We expected this one to be a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu match between the two chess masters. - One thing I didn't expect was a knockout. - Yeah, not from DeSanyos, but DeSanyos does have some Muay Thai. He walked out, punched Sodoropoulos in the face, knocked him out in 59 seconds in the first round. - What a fall. What an absolute fall. - I'm still gonna call it that that's less DeSanyos and more George Sodoropoulos just falling apart. - Yeah, he's really falling apart the last couple of fights. I mean, that was, I was really shocked, really shocked. - So Sodor's gone from an eight-fight win streak where he was being talked about as the next guy, to a two-fight losing streak where he's got a fight for his job. - Yeah, wow. And that's happening so much in the lightweight division right now. Guys are dropping like flies. I mean, it's so hard to pick. Watch Guido loses next fight before he gets a title shot. - It can happen. - When you've got 20 world-class guys in that division and the two guys at the top keep drawing each other? - Yeah. - Like, it's a good thing though, because it keeps you on your toes and you can never really predict who's gonna rise to the top here. - It keeps you on your toes. Once one of those, once one's Frankie and Maynard get back in it and one of them disposes of the other. So they can start taking on some of these challengers rather than having them all die waiting. (laughs) 'Cause right now they're all dying waiting, you know? - Yeah. - It's entirely possible that Ben Henderson will beat Jim Miller. - Oh man, I would love to see Beno get another title shot. - I like that. - But Ben Henderson wouldn't get the title shot. Miller would just be out. - Yeah, Miller would just be out and then we'll do-- - Beno, Wita. - We can see her beat, kill, kill, kill. - Oh, they're teammates, they won't fight. - They're teammates. (laughs) - Man, I love going through the-- - Of course you, Greg Jackson. (laughs) - For having half the guys in the UFC. - Yes. - So what's on the undercard? - Undercard fights, we had Jeff Hoeglin taking a UMass decision against Donnie Walker, well done Hoeglin. Edgy Kwanil looked phenomenal as he ripped apart winner in the first round with a Neutai Knees and just picked his shots, kept it up in the second and third in Adam's decision. With a 30-26, two judges gave him a 10-8 for the first round. - That's the most interesting thing about that fight was Winner's chin. He took knees and strikes, everything, and never went down ahead. - Oh, he took everything. He's not from the finish with strikes, but at the same time, you're a pure striker, you've always been dominated by wrestlers, and you just had a pure striking match with Edgy Kwanil and Edgy Kwanil killed you. - Oh, I know, I said you look good. I just can't believe you think it knocked out. Walking papers are coming for a winner. - Winners, who can you beat? - Not no one. He's the guy, I think, at the bottom of that division. - Yeah. Brad Tavares took on Aaron Simpson. Aaron Simpson managed to hold him down for your name as decision victory, 30-27. Tavares had some sparks in this match where you got some press of striking, but Simpson was just two seasons of a wrestler. - Yeah. - And then Bryan Bowles took on Ticakayo and Miyagaki. Bryan Bowles was kind of a step ahead throughout everything. They actually kind of strike him, kind of near his submission in the second round. - He turned his hand early, but still had too much for Miyagaki. It was a great fight, though. - Kind of a boring one, but decision. - Boy, he's going to get a broken hand. - Yeah. - I will say, though, both put on a better performance. He would have been next in line for a title shot. - Yep. - And he didn't. - So submission of the night obviously goes to Tito for 75,000. - Awesome. - By the night, there was a couple of different candidates. I thought I would go to Seaver and Ryman, but there you came up with the chatter. - Nah, yay. That's not going to be a three-round entertaining fight. It isn't going to beat a five-round entertaining fight when the title is on the line. - Yeah. So Cruz and then Ryman should walk away with 75,000 each. Deservedly. - Yeah, for sure. - So what do we have for the news? - No, Carlos Condit. (laughing) - Yes, that happened. And we'll do some quick news here. Pro Elite, the company that owned Elite XC is back. They tried to buy Strike Force a few months ago, or bit by UFC. Now they're putting on their own show, August 27th in Hawaii, apparently with Andre Alofsky headlining. I don't know if this is big news or not, but the last time that Elite XC had a run, they got on TV, they got on CBS, they had the biggest still, the highest rated MMA fight in history on TV. These guys, they blow money. Like they're very bad business men, but they've got connections. - Well, they do have connections 'cause money buys connections. But with that being said, right now, Strike Force is still on CBS. UFC still on the spy. - Well, theoretically. I mean, if you don't put on a fight, if a tree falls in the forest or you're still in there, like-- - Yeah, exactly. - I just, I don't think there's enough space for them. - Yeah, but I mean, they could always get this, you know, if UFC bales from Spike, like the rumor is, maybe they can sneak in before Bellator. I mean, you know, it's worth keeping an eye on these guys, even though they've got bad business acumen. Like, you know, they blew $50 million in four shows or something. - Well, they need to stop. - They need to stop trying to fix fights. - That would help. - They'll be back to fixing fights and bouncing checks soon. - Someday I'm gonna, someday I'm, well, we've got nothing to talk about in the show. I'm gonna run down the whole Elite XC saga. It's fascinating. - We've got a few free weeks coming. - Oh, we do too. Let's see, Jake Shields versus Jake Ellenberger is the main event of the September 17th UFC show, Battle on the Bayou. - Interesting. - Awful name. The only reason-- - You flow back to the old age. - Yeah, I guess. The only reason this is really noteworthy is because right after UFC said that they're gonna be doing five round main events for every card, they're gonna do three rounds for this one. Why do you guys think that is? - Gee, I wonder. Just because Jake Shields-- - Shields are too exciting for five, four rounds. - Oh, yeah. - The audience is just tired of excitement. - Shields has a history of being ratings. - Yeah, spontaneous combustion in the crowd. It would be so exciting. - So there's an asterisk beside five round fights. - Yeah, for sure. - Let's see, Bellator 47 is the first Bellator show in Canada is coming up July 23rd. This was looking to be a huge card, but they're having a rough go of it this week. The featherweight title bell between Joe Warren and Pitbull Fair is out due to Pitbull's hand injury. There's an Adrian Woldefite, who's the guy we're actually-- - Yep. - A fans of a local guy that it looks like it's may not gonna happen and Ben Saunders just pulled it with an injury. So Bellator's trying to come into Canada, but this is gonna be a tough call. - Not a good start. - Well, obviously, Ontario is a super, super hot market and Bellator wants a slice. We were really looking forward to this. Entries happen. I'm sure that they'll try to grab some other guys and see what they can put together. 'Cause they definitely want this fight to happen and we'll keep you posted on that. - Either way, I mean, I think they're gonna sell well. - Yep. - We went to at the same venue. Casino Ramen, we went to a much smaller publicized show that MMA, the Reckoning, and they sold out. - Yeah, and it was well organized. - It was excellent. So, John McDessie's injured. So he's a of the August 14th card against Paul Taylor. Donald Seroni just jumped in to take the fight on short. - All right. - It's an un-televised pre-limb. - Oh, watch out Facebook. - But watch out Facebook. - You know, but Donald Seroni. - The more I get to see Seroni fight, the better. - Absolutely. And in the rest of the week, former Strike Force heavyweight contender Brett Rogers, he's facing charges of domestic assault by strangulation, assault, and child endangerment, following an argument with his wife. - Come on. - Obviously, he's been fired from Strike Force. - Yeah, obviously. - Aw, man, really. - Well, thank God, though, for one thing, at least Josh Barnett beat him first. - Yeah, sure. - 'Cause if he beaten Barnett and he was still in the turn, I mean, what a disaster that had been. - They would have just put in a fill-in just, yeah. Although you're right, at least he lost. At least he's a dude who can't win a fight, who's now out, but this is awful. - Apparently won one fight, but-- - Like, every second week, some guy gets arrested, we have news about the press. - That's gotta stop. - And I guess the very quickly, the last thing, Ken Shamrock for his James Tony, September 23rd in Texas. - So they finally saw us. - I mean, matchup boxing. - I bet. - It's interesting, 'cause Shamrock, he is ultimately a baseline wrestler, which Tony has not shown the ability to handle, but Shamrock's also really, really old. - Didn't make his last fight, right? Wasn't he supposed to fight on that Shark Fight's card, and then he pulled out of that? - Yeah, he pulled out the Elite XC fight a couple years back to you. I don't really care who wins this fight. I just still want to watch it for a big show that I didn't-- - I don't think his fight's gonna go on. - Yeah, we should take odds on if the fight even happens. - I mean, I don't think he's gonna show up. - I think that now it's been made. It's almost notable that it will happen, 'cause there's money on the line for both these guys now. - There was money on the line for Shark Fight's too. - Fair enough. Well, we'll see. We'll keep the post on that one too. - And you can tell we're talking about Shamrock for James Tony, so we're out of news. (laughing) - So thank you very much for tuning in.
