(heavy rock music) - Hello, welcome to the Hammer. I'm your host, Dave. Join us always on my co-hosts. - Steve. - Greg cannot be here with us this Wednesday, June the 29th, but we'll do a good show despite that. You're listening to us live at 93.3 CFMU. You can also find us at thehammermma.com and addictedmma.com. So let's start with the upcoming card, UFC 132. We will have reviews later in news, but we want to start with, I want to start at least, one of my favorite fighters of all time, Dominic Cruz, defending his Bantamweight Championship. I guess one of your favorite fighters of all time, the California kid, or I favorite. - I guess eight, both of these guys are two of my favorite fighters right now. As a WBC geek, these two are the best of the best. And I'm looking forward to this fight more than pretty much any fight, except for another Maynard Edgar fight. - Now Cruz is a phenomenal record. He's only ever been defeated once. However, the one guy to defeat him is a rye favor. Now that was at 145 pounds, I believe. - Yep, and favor tapped out Cruz. And that is the only mark on Cruz's record. If Cruz beats favor now, I mean, I'm putting him in the top five for, five pound for pound guys out there right now. - I think he's pretty close. - I already think he is, but this is the one that cinches it. This is eventually the one loss. But Cruz has looked pretty much invincible. - Absolutely. - Since that fight, he is so fast. He has the craziest boxing style, a great take-down defense. He's inhuman. - He's dropped down weight in that, and he's actually gained speed. I think he might be the fastest of the fighters. - Yeah, his movement is just, there's no one else quite like that. And he's so frustrating to so many guys. - But Benavidez, who else, Scott Jorgensen, like he just made these guys who were excellent. Excellent fighters. Bulls made them look bad. And he's that good. - Yeah, I mean, like his style is, if you haven't seen Cruz fight, which may be a lot of you have not, the way that this guy moves is impossible to describe, but it's like a hummingbird. He darts in and out. And as he comes in and goes out, he's attacking both directions, striking, throwing combos. And as he comes in and out, he's also diving in for take-downs. And he just mixes them into his combos seamlessly. He's one of the few guys who actually does use his hands to set up his take-downs absolutely perfectly. - He never stops moving. He's like a video game, really. Like a video game character. It's almost unrealistic. - But he's a movie. - Yeah. - He's an action movie. - But Faber has beaten him before. Faber has submitted him. Faber has good wrestling. He's big, especially for 135 pound division, never gives up. This is a-- - He's a retireo, he's in a five-round fight. So much of Cruz advantages. He tires guys out. Faber's got invisible cardio. His take-down is enough that he can get Cruz to the mat. And if he gets Cruz to the mat, how would that movement, you know? Cruz, Cruz can be hurt. - He definitely can't-- - He can be tapped. - He can be tapped for sure. - His only benefit is that he's so fast. He gets out of danger so well. - Well, he's a scrambler too. He can, he gets taken down now. I mean, this new Cruz, he can get back up, I think. And there aren't very many fighters who reinvent themselves like Cruz has. Like, there's him, there's maybe Alistair over him. - Yeah, even Alistair over him. I mean, I've seen Alistair over him. I love the new Alistair over him, but he's really just a bigger version of the old Alistair over him. - Right. - Cruz is like, he's hit at something. He's the foremost come together. He is something new. No one else fights with him. And there's guys that want to. There's a lot of guys that are looking at this Cruz formula and saying, oh my God, this guy, he's got it. - Well, he trains with KJ Nunes. Another guy that I really like who, and both of these guys are really good boxers. Nunes is not putting it together like Cruz is. - Well, even outside of those guys, Matt Matreon who doesn't train with this guy says, I want to fight like that guy. You know, Phil Davis who does train with him wants to fight like that guy. There are like good, good fighters in the heavyweight division and light heavyweight division are looking at this guy saying, how do I put together my combos the way that this guy puts together his combos? - Yeah, so if everyone listens to this, I guess it's fairly apparent. We have the utmost respect for Dominic Cruz. - Oh, the thing with favor is, you know, Cruz doesn't have the power to finish him in my opinion. Faber is almost unfinished. Although he couldn't do it. I don't think Cruz is going to do it. - Although through everything, but the kids in sync at him, they were carrying favor back to his corner and he never gave up. Faber is, how can you not love Faber too? Like this is a fight where I think that they're fairly evenly matched, even with different skill sets. And I like both guys. This is a very, very exciting fight. - One of the things that makes this fight so interesting is these are two guys who actually have a legitimate beef with each other outside of the cage. These guys do not like each other. - Now, you catch it in promos and then the O versus WC versus pre-shows and all this stuff where they, I haven't seen the countdown special, but they allude to disliking each other. They do these little jabs. I don't know what the actual beef is. Is it because they fought before? - Well, they fought before. Old favorite beat on which I think is not anything that's easy for a man of Cruz is probably to swallow. Cruz has also beaten Uriah's favorite friends. He's beaten Uriah's an alpha male. - Yeah, he's beaten that better than he has twice. - And he's, yeah, and he's called out favorites saying, you know, the California kid comes out and you see the salesman Uriah, but the real Uriah is, you know, completely different. Like he's basically a Cues Uriah of being fake and basically being, you know, a jerk behind the seat. - 'Cause let's be honest, your eye favorite is probably the most likable guy in MMA or in the top three. - He definitely has a normal level of characters. But Cruz is saying, "Hey, that guy's fake." Well, that's, first of all, that's cutting into the guy's livelihood if you're making an accusation. You know, I like, that's for that's the favorite. Or favors, definitely not gonna take that lightly. And Cruz is definitely not gonna say that lightly. - No, I'm not always about the draw though of the behind-the-scenes drama and stuff, but the fact that these guys don't like each other just adds an extra little bit of me looking forward to this fight. - Yeah. - So I guess we have to make a call. - For me, I have to say that as much as I think that right favorite is a fantastic fighter. Cruz, he's reinvented him to himself to the point that I don't know anyone who's gonna be able to handle styles as long as he manages to scramble the takedown. I think he's gonna be an out-point favor on his feet. My call for this one is Cruz by decision. - Yeah, you know what? I'm thinking the exact same thing. I don't think Cruz could finish favor. I don't think very, I don't think, Kay Velasquez could finish favor. He would keep getting back up, you know? But I think about what favor brings to the table. He brings his takedowns, he brings some ground work, but I don't think he can take down dominant Cruz, this dominant Cruz, 'cause he's too fast, his takedown offense is too good. I don't think he can keep him down. - I think he can take him down. I just don't think he can keep him down. - I don't think he can keep him down for five rounds. - Right, and that leads to exactly what you said. A dominant Cruz decision. Now, a dominant Cruz tends to go to decision. I think it's gonna be one of those things that he's gonna get a reputation for it, but with his fighting style, that's just, I don't find it boring and it works for him, and I think that's what he's gonna use to beat favor. - Yeah, and then we go forward to another fight that I think will be pretty exciting. In the middleweights, wonderly the axe murderer Solva takes on Chris Lieben. - This promises to be excellent, 'cause both of these guys, these are not the most well-rounded fighters out there, but they do not mind getting in people's faces and just punching. - Yeah, these guys are both brawlers. Solva is known for his brutal brawling, and Lieben can take a punch and he can give a punch back. So this will be a striking award. - Now, here's the story with Lieben. Lieben is on a bit of a career renaissance, or at least he was. His 2010, he won, what, I think three fights. - Two fights in a month. - Two fights in a month, and I think he won previously, and I believe he was on a very good run, and in the first of this year, he ran into Brian Stan and got knocked out, and Chris Lieben is not a guy who gets knocked out, but if he's gonna go in there and swing with wonderly Solva, I think his game, the current Chris Lieben is better than the current wonderly Solva. - Now, with that being said, wonderly Solva, he does throw wild looping punches, and he's not the most accurate-- - I was saying he's not a smart fighter. - technical fighter, but wonderly Solva, this guy's power is, you know, in his prime, it was out of this world. - It's not there anymore, though. - And he's certainly gonna be, he's gonna have to be as big as Lieben. You know, Lieben's not gonna have the size advantage over wonderly that he typically has over most opponents. - Now, in the last couple of years, Lieben's been going out there, and for the most part, finishing guys. And you've got, in Silva, since 2006, he has two wins, and they're against Keith Jardine in a fairly close decision with Michael Bisming. He is not on the role of his life right now. - Oh, absolutely. - And I like the guy-- - Of course, the role of his life was a streak of pride, where he was. But he was one of those legendary fighters in the world. - Right, but this, you know, but that is not, you know, the axe murder right now. And I love the axe murder, it's impossible not to like wonderly Solva, but I can't see him beating Chris Lieben. - And so you call him Lieben? - I'm calling Lieben. I don't know if he'll knock him out, but I can't see Voldely Solva beating him. - Voldely's had a long way off, and Ring Russ will be a factor. But with that being said, I love the axe murder. I was a huge pride fan. He was one of the reasons I started watching MMA. So I cannot call against the axe murder. To me, I think Voldely Solva, he's powerful enough, and he's ferocious enough. - Do you think he can finish Lieben? - I think he can finish Lieben. - Do you think he will finish Lieben? - No, I think he's gonna win by decision, but I think he's gonna punch Lieben apart over the course of three minutes. - Lieben will stand there and take those shots. - No, Lieben will stand there to finish. - You will get the shot. You will get the chance to hit Lieben. - But Lieben's Lieben's strategy a lot of times is he takes a brutal beating and a knocks a guy out when he's gassed. Well, if you're taking a brutal beating for two rounds against Voldely Solva, I don't think he's gonna be enough until he's left in the third round and knock the guy out. - This is gonna be a good fight. So I take it, it will not be boring. - No, it won't be boring for sure. One that might be boring. - Yeah. - When Light Heavyweights Tito Ortiz, this is his last stand, and he's gonna be taking on Ryan Bader. Now Bader is a monster. He's huge, ferocious wrestler, and he's got a really, really wicked white hand. - Let's be honest. Bader's the new breed of Tito Ortiz. - Oh yeah. - Tito Ortiz, almost impossible to finish. You know, I don't think there's been too many guys that managed to clean knock 'em out. A couple guys have pounded him to death. - Or an Ortiz has not won since 2006. That's our issue, but I'm gonna give him a bit of credit to Ortiz. Since 2006, he has fought like a murders row of guys since his last win. Chuck Liddell, Rashad Evans, Leo de Machida, Forrest Griffin, even Hamill, and now Bader. Like he has not had the easy road at all, but he can't be Bader. - Well, he's fighting, yes. Ting that he's lost the top notch guys. Okay, but Bader's a top notch guy. - That's what I'm saying. Is that this is not another, you know, for a fight, which is, you know, the story is if Tito doesn't win this fight, he's finally cut. Bader is not the guy to get the easy win against. Bader is probably gonna annihilate him. - Yeah, I see that. I think that basically in this one, I don't see either guy having a significant wrestling advantage. Bader is probably the better wrestler, but he likes to stand. - I'm saying Bader just because he's younger, and I think his gas tank's better now. I think that'll help the later rounds. - Well, Ting has got an invincible gas tank. I mean, Ting doesn't gas, but with that being so-- - Do you remember the last round of him versus Forrest? Not the both of those guys were done. - Fair enough, but, you know, I just-- - All credit to Ortiz, but this is not in the fight to save your job. - Bader's gonna win, and I think that that's pretty much an obvious one. - Do you think he could finish him in any way, or do you think it could be a decision? - No, I think it'll be a decision. - I think you're right. - Carlos Condet versus Joong Hong Kim. - This fight excites me and scares me. - Yeah. - Condet is a rising star in the welterweight division. He's looked phenomenal in his last couple outings, including a crushing knockout on Dan Hardy. - Really, he's like phenomenal for years, actually. - Phenomenal come behind against Warren McDonald. - Incredible. - Joong Hong Kim, this guy is almost unstoppable, very, very big for the division. - He's undefeated. - Undefeated, great judo game, great defense against striking, great defense against grand grappling, but not a brilliant finisher. - That's right. Now, he did finish a lot of guys pre UFC, and now that he's fighting top-notch competition, it's been grinding decision, grinding decision, grinding decision. And that is a problem for Carlos Condet, because Condet is an excellent tough fighter. One of the best welterweights out there, I think, but his weakness is wrestling. He's got a Jiu Jitsu game, he's got great striking, he's got good cardio, but wrestlers really bother him. He got out wrestled by Rory McDonald for two and a half rounds, two and three quarters rounds, before he's striking one in the day. I don't know, maybe that was luck, can you do that again? Carlos Condet's one of my favorite guys. - Another thing is, even if he does it again, he'll be like, the ref stopped that fight in the last 10 seconds. Joong Hong Kim, if he holds on for 10 seconds longer, he's gonna pick this one up, two rounds to one round. And this is where I feel bad, because I've been a Carlos Condet fan since WBC, but I've never seen a Carlos Condet fight, which I haven't enjoyed, but if you go back in our radio show archives and see our previewing every card he's ever been on, I always call against him because I'm like, this is the bad match up for him, this is the one he's gonna lose. And I think I have to say it again, Kim is too smart of a wrestler, and I think he's gonna hold him down and get the decision. - Kim is a very, very good wrestler, but with that being said, he kind of gassed out pretty badly against Nate Diaz and got ripped open in the third round by a guy who doesn't have nearly the finishing power that Carlos Condet has. - Here's the thing though, it's on the ground, it's Carlos Condet, he can finish guys with submissions, he's got a great jujitsu game. Diaz can finish him on the ground, I don't know if Condet can either. - But I do think that Condet can weather the storm and then fire up in the third round. I do think that Condet is better on the ground than Diaz is, and I think he's a better striker than Diaz is. The other advantage that Condet has is the man with a towel. - That's right. - The great Jackson's jam is not gonna be letting this guy walk into this fight blind. Condet's gonna have the game plan, and he's a adaptable fighter. - Absolutely. - He can switch up on his feet. To me, Condet's too smart to get out-pointed by Kim, 'cause that's the thing, Kim's gonna have to out-point him. - Oh, of course. - He's not gonna finish him. - To me, Condet's got more tools. He's not gonna be in danger of being finished, so he's gonna be comfortable throwing, he's got better submissions, and he's not a bad point fighter himself. To me, I think that Condet's got enough tools in his belt. He's gonna pick this one up. - Okay, so for me, when I vision this fight, I envision Kim taking him down and holding him down, but I would love to see some good rally or some great game plan. I would love to see Condet win this fight. I'm very much looking forward to it. - Yeah, me too, and I call all of this as Condet. So you go forward to the lightweights, opening the card, Dennis Seaver, he have the three-fight win streak, including killing the eight-fight win streak of Sutteropolis. He is gonna be making his return to take on Matt Wyman, also on a three-fight win streak. These two guys are hot contenders in the lightweight division. - They're each on a three-fight win streak, and they're both really reinventing themselves, but on a run that they haven't had before. - They're on a rise. I mean, they're starting to get to the point where people are talking about putting these guys in title matches and with title contenders. - That's right. - So I mean, a win here is gonna get you an Anthony Pettis or a Clay Guido, or this is the win that gets you into the conversation with what do you guys-- - What do you guys take on, Frankie, I think, or not? - One of these guys is in the talk. The other guys back in that deep, deep, deep, welterweight division, back in the hole. Now here's why I think Seaver looked amazing in the Sutteropolis fight. The take down defense I did not know we had. He fought a smart fight. It was excellent. Do you think that was because Sutteropolis just doesn't have great takedowns, or do you think he has really become a great takedown artist? He's facing a wrestler now. - I think that Seaver does have great takedown defense, absolutely, but Sutteropolis's takedowns are nowhere close to Matt Wyman. - That's right. This is what I'm thinking. - Wyman's takedowns are far, far better, and Wyman's a tough cookie. Seaver, he's all punched guys before, but Roy Piro, Ross Pearson managed to beat him out in striking. - And I consider Wyman on that level of Pearson, guys who, they're good strikers, they could fight fairly smart, and I think Wyman can beat him. I think so too. I think that, again, Wyman's the guy with the tools here. I think that he's gonna be a good enough a striker that he can definitely take the fight to down Seaver on his feet, and I also think he's got the wrestling to score points with takedowns, and if he has to, if Seaver starts to rally, to take him down and say, you can't strike with me until I get my wrist back. To me, Wyman's gonna win this one. - I can't disagree. So that's the pay-per-view card. There's also Spike TV fights. - Absolutely. Melvin Giard is taking on Shane Roller. Giard is phenomenal striker. If Thaumont cruises the fastest guy in MMA, Giard's the second fastest, in my opinion. - Yeah, he's watching him strike is incredible. - Just insane. - Now, I've seen him in fights where he's more cautious, but when he turns it on, he, his striking is phenomenal. - Yeah. - And that's actually Roller's weak spot. We're not running roller and knockdown just last opponent, but the guy's not a great striker. - Roller is not a great striker, but he's an extremely powerful wrestler. So there's gonna be a question of, can Roller get to the fight to the guy or ground against Giard or is he gonna get caught? To me, Giard's too fast and too slick. I see Giard winning. - I even think that Giard's got enough. I think he has enough take-down defense. I think he can keep on his feet if he wants to. I think he can scramble back up. I think, I like Roller, but I think this is a bad matchup for him. - So then George Soderopoulos, who lost to Dennis Seaver in Australia, he makes his return to take on Raftfield to Samuels. This one's gonna be an interesting one. Both guys are phenomenal Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experts. They're great on the ground. So that means it's either gonna turn into an other striking battle 'cause neither one will wanna go to the ground or it's gonna be a battle of Giard passes and a very, very technical fight on the ground. Soder works fast. He's very, very good. Desagnos is an incredible scrambler. - He is. And watching Soderopoulos work on the ground is like watching some guys on their feet. Like, it's art for me. I love watching it. I don't think it'll be boring if this goes to the ground. And I think, I know you can't use MMA math like this, but Desagnos has lost to all the top guys he's fought. Guida, Tyson Griffin, even Jeremy Stevens. His wins are over guys like Terrietta, Bradley, Emerson. Soder office is a higher competitor, a higher level competitor than he is. And I can see him winning this almost anywhere. - I think Soder was gonna win this one as well. - He needs to win too. - Yeah. And then we go into the Facebook card. Brian Bowles is taking on Taekei Michigaki. This is an interesting one. Michigaki is kind of the nemesis of Raft Faber who is one of Bowles' friends. - Yeah, I don't know about this fight. I'm really not that sold in Michigaki. He's fine, but every time he fights out when I consider to be top competition, he loses. - Well, with that being said, these are both two guys that are probably in that championship talks in Bantamweight. They're both very, very exciting fighters. So it'll be an interesting fight. - I call Bowles. - Yeah, fair enough. I don't have a call for this one, but Bowles is probably a smart call. Brad Tavares, he looked good against Phil Broni, but he did lose against court McGee. He is an alternate fighter fighter fight, I think, but still a loss, not on his record, but a loss. - Yeah, versus Aaron Simpson, who is a good, good wrestler. However, he's had some tough competition lately and lost to Munoz and Divin. - Yes, he's a good wrestler. I actually don't think this fight, you actually said earlier when we were talking before the show, this fight probably won't be very fun. - Well, the thing with it is, Brad Tavares, he does have great Mai Tai, and he's a pretty solid wrestler with that. But Aaron Simpson is a really solid wrestler, and I just see Aaron Simpson riled wrestling, that he's got the power to do it. And after two losses, this guy's not looking to mess around. - And he's been fighting tougher competition and that makes you better. - And he's fighting tougher competition, and he's gonna be pushed more. - Yep. - So to me, Simpson's just gonna out wrestle him for this one. Endure quantities can take on Andre Winter. These are two guys that are pretty good strikers, so this one will probably be pretty fun. Andre is more of a point fighter, but Endure quantity has got some phenomenal knockouts, including kicking Chris Hordacke's head into orbit. - Yeah. - And then Jeff Hoogling, who I know very little about, takes on Donnie Walker, who I know even less about. - There are very few fights that happen in any major organization where I don't know either guy, and I can't recall seeing other of those guys fight, so hopefully I guess we'll see them this weekend. - On to the news. - All right, so Nate Marquardt was not only cut from the UFC Live 4 main event, but also cut from the UFC this past weekend, really a day before the show. He tested for elevated testosterone levels, and not only was off the card, Dana just executed him. He's gone. - Dana came out in an impressed conference, said he was disgusted by Nate Marquardt, and KSA is not going to be fighting in the UFC anymore. - I still think that's-- - Dana's hot tampered, he guys been able to recant these things later, it would be in the past. - But even if this was a full-on steroid thing, guys get suspended for that. They don't usually get fired. The only thing I can think of is that after the whole jail sun in debacle, which was regarding this high testosterone thing, he's got to draw the lines somewhere. - Now, it hasn't been said that it is steroids, although Nate Marquardt does have a history of steroids in his past. He has been said it's elevated steroid, elevated testosterone, which is a very common symptom of steroids. Here's my thing with this. This is the idiocy of the story. They tested him, his blood test, six weeks earlier, and they found out he had elevated steroids. Now he came up with this excuse of, well, I was moody and depressed, and my doctor recommended I take steroids to replace my low testosterone count, or you know, testosterone therapy. - Let's be realistic. He has lowered levels because of previous steroid abuse. - Yeah, so I mean, that's his medical excuse. Now, the commission here did not suspend him on the six-month test. - They gave him time. - They gave him six months and they said, well, okay, you've got to have your testosterone level under control by the time you get here. And he came in still high. And he says, his defense is, or named Mark West Defense is, well, they tested me the day before the fight, but the day of the fight, my levels were normal. So basically what you're saying is, in addition to trying to cut weight to make it to 170 pounds, you also need to time your steroid cycling off. - Yes. - And you miss timed how quickly you need to cycle off of your testosterone. - Yes. That's it. - And that is your excuse for, this is why you shouldn't be cut because you didn't time your steroid use cycle properly. - Yeah. - Man, come on. - Oh, and now again, I'm not saying that- - Come on. - that he shouldn't be punished or suspended or whatever, but I'm very surprised he was fired. I think he'll be back. - I think the stupidity of this deserves you to be fired. You've been suspended before for steroids. When begging got that suspension removed, when begging for a medical exemption to be able to get hormone replacement therapy, or testosterone replacement therapy. And then you couldn't cycle off of it in time for your fight. You knew you had a fight coming. - Yeah. - But he didn't keep anybody in the loop. - How many people in the UFC used steroids and it managed to cycle off of it in time? Come on, man, you should be a pro at this. You used steroids before. You've got busted freezing steroids before. Cycle off, dude. Cycle off, like everyone else. - Well, I think that he took the bullet that they couldn't hit. She'll sign it with. I think that's what it is. - Well, I think he'll be back. - I think the stupidity of it was he didn't keep dating in the loop and he didn't provide test results - Yes. - to the dedicated commission. I think if he told Dana six weeks ahead of time, hey, man, I'm having medical issues. Can I pull the fight? Dana might have let the guy go. - Absolutely. - You tell him the day of the fight, yeah, by the way, I'm suspended for a year because I'm on juice again. - Oh, we just set up Spike TV the entire previous day to do the best of Nate Markhart, fight marathon. Like they put a lot into him and he let them down. - Yeah, so I mean, particularly when Dana's in negotiation with Spike and they're not sure if they're gonna keep that as a network, this is not time to be messing around. You deserve to be fired. That's just level of stupidity that goes beyond it. I don't love Nate Markhart, he's a great guy, but I mean, like, come on, man, come on, what are you doing? - So what ends up happening is he's out of the main events. Rick's story, his previous opponent, gets Charlie Bruneman from the prelim card and then what gets bumped up to the main events? Let's talk about it now. - Chick Congo versus Pat Berry. - Probably the most fun, like four minutes I've seen in a long time. - Two and a half minutes. - Two and a half minutes. Oh, wow. Pat Berry came out, Congo had a huge size advantage. It was very, very impressive to see massive chick Congo versus one of the smaller heavyweights in Pat Berry, all of Pat Berry managed to weigh him. Pat Berry came out with phenomenal striking. Rock Congo looked like he was almost gonna go out. - We said it last week, we wanted to see him come out and be a killer, like we know we could be and he came out and he went for it and-- - He was a killer. Congo scrambled, he looked like the ref was gonna stop it, but he, you know, good raffing here. Mergly out, I realized Congo was still in it. He got back up, Berry dropped him again. He got back up the second time. Berry came in for the kill and Congo threw an incredible right hook, stopped him in his tracks and that brief second pause followed up with an incredible uppercut, crushing Naco. It looked like Berry was dead. It looked like he gets dropped by a shotgun. - He was down on the ground. His eyes had that dead, dead look. I don't say this very often, but if you didn't see this and I don't think a lot of people, actually it turns out not a lot of people watched this card, go onto YouTube, look for Pat Berry versus Chuck Congo and watch this fight. - He's two and a half students and 40 seconds. - I was amazing in this and a scary, scary ass knockout. - Yeah, Mergly out of look panicked after this. I thought Berry was hurt, like really badly hurt. - This is must see. - Yeah, so incredible Naco for Congo, gets my $50,000 bonus, well done, sir. Rick Story versus Charlie Brenneman. Brenneman is a guy that's managed to quietly rock up a 13 and two win record. Rick Story is a guy who's on a run, any, you know. - The run of his career, he's tricking together. Six wins in a row, but just one fight gets chaguelvas, one of the toughest dudes ever, a welterweight. - He's walking to the ring and they're saying, if he gets the win here, his win streak is going to be as long as GSP or Anderson Silva. - Well, next in line after those guys. So he takes this fight to replace Rumble Johnson on like a three or four weeks notice, comes in there and trying to make history essentially for himself and he came in flat, he-- - Brenneman out wrestled him for two rounds. - And I've seen Rick Story out wrestle guys who I think are better than Brenneman. He came in flat. This was not the real Rick story. He rolled the dice and he paid the press. - Well, the thing is, Rick Story rolled the dice 'cause he was saying they're saying, you know what? Fitch and B.J. Pan have got each other. B.G.S.P. just beat cost check-in and shields. If he beats neat Dias, which is likely to happen, and I beat his best friend Nate Markwar, can I get into that picture? He threw the dice on, this is my shot at GSP, and instead he got Charlie Brenneman, which has just completely screwed him up. And then the other thing is, Brenneman came in, and I mean, I have never seen a guy follow his corner's instructions during flight-- - So impressive. - He got him in Brenneman. - Not just him, his corner was great and he followed them great. They came in against a guy who is higher up the card than them, came in with a perfect game plan, executed perfectly, got one of the upsets of the year, nothing of a respect for everyone involved in this. Rick Story for taking the fight, and Brenneman for winning the fight. - Yeah, and I mean, the worst thing about this fight was it was actually a really good, really exciting fight, 'cause it was such an upset. - It would've been better if Story had more gas, I think. - But Story, in the second round, he saw in his face, he was like, "Oh my God, I screwed up my entire career." Third round, he came out like a house on fire. He was going for a really, really good submission attempt, looked like a Camora to an on-bar, Camora with an on-bar option. - Knowing you had to finish. - The rough stood him up, for no reason. - You had the Camora and the rough stood him up. - We're not gonna have enough time on the show to go through every fight on this card, but this is the worst officiating I've seen in a long, long time. - Oh, it was ridiculous, it was terrible. - Up and down the card, terrible, terrible rafts, just miserable. - John Howard, a boring decision lost to Matt Brown. Mitrielle knocked Miss Chris from the more craft round two. He was a great knock-out. - Okay, Mitrielle is now in that conversation of like top 10 heavyweights now, I think in UFC. I think he should have Congo next. - Yeah, it's a good call. And the card would just be one of his best friends, so why not? Griffin versus Man of Alkambirian, Griffin picked up the win. - His first fight on Featherweight, okay. - Joe Dye Stevenson made the cut to take on Javier Vasquez and Vasquez beat him anyways. - So Joe Dye's first fight on Featherweight looked lame. I think they're gonna cut him. - He's in serious danger now, 'cause he's been losing streak in lightweight, and now he's dropped the division of loss. - And he'd be the guy who I don't think is a top featherweight. I don't think he's that good. - Vasquez is good. - He's fine, but he's not a role beater. - Yeah, he's certainly not a Jose Aldo. - Yeah. - Joe Loza managed to pick up a incredible submission against Kurt Warburton. - This is one of my submissions of the year so far. - He basically charged out of the gate, threw the guy on the ground, grabbed his arm and camarred him and caught Warburton, topped out in two minutes. - And he threw up the legs for position, and just Joe Loza and I love watching him submit dudes. - His submissions, when he comes charging out, he's amazing. Anthony, you don't manage to outpoint Daniel Robertson. Anthony Loza's a better striker here. You just power the guy through. For some reason, two refs gave Daniel Roberts a round. - Yeah. - Can't see why. Rick Arnold Lamas defeated Mac Rice with a knockout, four minutes and 41 seconds. Johnson knocked out Edward Falodo at four minutes and 42 seconds. So good on you. Michael Johnson. And then let's talk about Nick Lents versus the Charles Olivier era. - Very quickly. - First round, amazing. This was a great technical battle. Olivier looked to be getting the better of it. He looked to be the better striker, enabled to scramble out of all of Lents' takedowns. So this was looking to be the best fight that we've seen in some time. - Now for Nick Lents' fight, especially, this was a very exciting fight. Really start to end, but it ended for you. - Well, because people expect Lents to be a smother, Olivier managed to scramble out of the smothering, which made it exciting, and he was winning the striking. - Yup. And I was really, really into the fight, and then Olivier had a knee, and Lents was actually down. - Two minutes in round two. Lents was down on his knees, and Olivier and knocked him with a knee in the head, crushed him. This was a brutal blatantly illegal knee. The ref was standing there, watching the knee, didn't call for a stop, didn't weigh the fight off. Olivier pounced on the wounded Lents and got the rear naked choke, as obviously he would do, 'cause Lents was pretty much dead. And the ref just let it go and called it a win. - Yup, and I don't blame anyone in this, except for the officiating. They've ended up overturning the loss to a no contest, and it's still won by the night, and I guess it deserves it. You can't really blame those guys. - Well, the first round was the best round, but I mean, to me, it can't be by the night over Burnham and vs. Story, because for you, it wasn't a fight. It was no contest. It was obviously an illegal knee. - It wasn't no contest when they gave it by the night, when they gave the bonus, it wasn't, and that was a better fight than Story Burnham and I kind of said. - Well, the first round was, but I mean, Olivier looked great. It sucks a through the league knee. It wasn't really his fault. Lents looked pretty good too, so I mean, you know, interesting. - I'm curious what will happen next with his ass. - Terrible raffing, and I mean, this guy was doing all the other little undercard fights, and the main carteaches vanished and Murglelet ought to replace them, so I figured it was like, this guy, he's never a raff before. - Well, they used to use their name raff for the main carte fights, though. - Yeah, well, the crowd was booing this vociferously. Everyone knew this was an illegal knee, but the raff, and the commission guy walked into the ring, grabbed the raff as the fight ended, and was like, idiot, what'd you do? And the raff looked like he's, like, looks stricken as he raised Oliver's arm, because at that point, even he knew, why did I miss that knee? - And much like that raff, we are out of here. - Yeah, so thank you very much for listening.
