(heavy rock music) - Hello and welcome to the Hammer. I'm your host, Dave, join us always by my co-hosts. - Greg, how's it going guys? - And Steve, hey. - It is June the 22nd, and we're gonna talk about the Strike Force overing versus verdume, as well as UFC Live 4, which is coming up on the Saturday to come. - So it looks like a great car. - Sunday to come. - Yes, that's right. - And Steve also has some news for us. But let us start with, I think what we will all agree was the greatest night in martial arts history. - Mixed martial arts history, not martial arts history, just martial arts. - I think it's martial arts. - Better than Karate Kid, the movie. - Better than Karate Kid. - All three of them. All four of them. Even the one with Will Smith's Kid. - And the one with Hillary Swank. - Oh, that worked. - All right, so what was the greatest night thing? - Alsar overing versus Fabrizio Verdume. - It wasn't that great. - This is a classic matchup of a striker versus a back flapper. - Yeah, I mean, are we gonna start, are we gonna talk about that fight right now? 'Cause we might as well just jump into it. - Yeah, let's jump into it. - What, like for Fabrizio, come on. He just, there were so many points where he would just flop over and wait for overing to jump on. It was obvious overing wasn't gonna do it. It just became a joke after a while. - Yeah, two minutes into that fight, it was obvious he was never gonna follow him down, especially after Verdume went out before this fight and saying, yeah, I just tricked Vador into coming down after me when I beat him. I wasn't actually hurt. Well, give away your strategy, no one's gonna follow it. - Well, the fact of this matter is Verdume is known for using that strategy before. I'm assuming the reason that Vador didn't know that is because Vador trained in Rothschild with guys that don't know the thing about Fabrizio Verdume, he's in training for a good camp. - I'm pretty sure he got his hands on some tape. - Yeah, but I mean, at the same time, it's different watching tapes and then actually fighting a guy. - Yeah. But Alistair Orem is not gonna fall for that ruse. He's fought you before. He fell for it before. - Well, when you're sitting in there on your back and you're praying to Alistair Orem to come down, it became a joke after a while. He started laughing. - He had a big grin on his face and he was waggling his eyebrows, beckoning Orem to follow him to the ground. I just over him stood over him. - Like, as enticing as Verdume's come hither look is, I don't think, you know, it was just such a joke. - It's such a terrible, and I mean, the thing about it is, for Verdume, he's a guy, he clearly had no choice of wrestling over him to the ground 'cause he shot him over him. - Yeah, it was a good contest. - Kept just falling on his back, trying to pull a guard or trying to hold that over him and just finally be like, "You know what, I'm gonna commit and go after the guy." Orem was never gonna do it. Verdume gassed himself out, trying all these stupid wacky takedowns, over him gassed himself out, defending all these super wacky takedowns. So, by the end of the third round, they're both Huffin and Puffin, and not able to do too much. - With very little action-relatively speaking. - Very little action-relatively speaking. And the ridiculous part of this is, Verdume actually managed to out-strike over him. - Yeah, yeah, I know. - This was what that was funny is, I was thinking that he was out-striking him, then they showed the little tail of the tape, which I usually hit-- - Stats vomit. - The stats vomit at the end of the fight, which I usually hate, but I liked it this time and the only time because it actually proved that he did out-striking. - Yeah, well, I mean, even just watching the fight, you could tell that, like, for Beach it was pointing together combos, grabbing clenches, using knees, over him was getting harder shots as he was counter-punched, but for Beach it literally threw the fight away by flopping on his back, making the judges say, well, over him is getting all these crazy takedowns 'cause the guy keeps falling over. No, he's not. Verdume keeps falling over. - Yeah, it was-- - But he doesn't-- - No matter what, no matter how he's struck in that fight, he doesn't deserve to win. If every two seconds he's throwing himself onto the ground. - Oh, I completely agree, and I think that's why he lost the fight. He looked surprised after this. You know, there's no decision. For Beach it looked shocked, and he had this, like, disgusted look as he walked back as like, how did I lose this when I out-strucked him? And, you know, he barely took me down. Well, you, he-- - You took yourself down on that. - You took yourself down. - Well, it's very symbolic. It's just like his body. His stock has dropped as far as it possibly can now. He was the hot heavyweight last year of beating Fedor. And then we just put on this joke of performance and lost, and it was awful. I wanted to see Junior his head 'til he was punching him again. - Yes, absolutely. - Well, not impressive for you, the guy. Overeem, the thing with Overeem is I-- I used to watch a lot of Pride, as everyone knows. I watched a lot of Overeem fights, and he always makes the same basic mistake. When someone has come on Adam Hard, he backs straight up with his hands up and just gets to the cage and tries to rope a dope. And this is exactly how Shogun Ruah cracked him. This is exactly how, you know, the fact of the fact most of his losses come by K.O., this is what he does. - For B-Siver Doom is coming at him with combos, also over and backs up exactly, directly away from the guy, with no real defense or head movement. And they yell, "What great head movement?" (laughing) The guy does not handle pressure well. Even if he manages to make it through for B-Siver Doom, he's gonna fight Barnette, who's a good pressure fighter. - Oh, Silva. - Well, Silva is a great pressure fighter. - Silva's gonna destroy him. - Yeah, if he manages to make it past Silva, you know, then the next day I'll be Barnette or Kartana. Both of all three of them were pressure fighters. And then even if he manages to make it through all these guys, he's gonna have to go into the UFC heavyweight division at some point where every single guy at the top is a pressure fighter. - Yeah, oh yeah, like Dus Santos, Karwin, Velasquez, these guys, even even Brock with his takedowns, these guys are not gonna let you slide. - No. - Yeah. - Not backing up that way. Absolutely not. - Yeah, these guys are gonna eat you alive. - They're gonna come at you. They will come right at you. So, I mean, just, you know, before this, you could say Fabrizio was one of the hottest in the world, maybe the hot tech in the world. Well, in a lot of ways, Uberim was the hot tech in the world. Everyone was talking about how great Uberim was and how he was on this crazy win streak in Japan. - All these huge stoppages, winning all these belts in Japan. - Yeah, guys around. - The strike tied up you with churles. I mean, we don't know it's such a big deal. - But like, looking at this fight, this is not like like a guy who is coming from Japan to crush Dus Santos and Velasquez. - He looks like everyone else who comes over for Japan. - Yeah. - Well, it's the, I mean, it's the classic thing. I mean, everyone, there's always some guy who's come in who's gonna take the UFC by storm and never happens. The UFC is the best in the world. And, you know, the sooner everybody comes to realize that, you know, that the better it's gonna be. - Well, no, there have been guys that have come in and taken the UFC by storm. John Bones-Jones, Cain Velasquez. - Well, yeah. - Who started in the UFC. Who started their major league MMA career in the UFC. - Yeah. - Like they didn't come from another organization. - They started it, they made me start it. - You could say Brock took the UFC by storm because he came from pro wrestling. - There was no depth at that point. - Yeah, like. - It's a different league right now. - I honestly don't think, I don't think Fabrizio or over him could hang without the-- - Oh, we've already seen the birdoon can't. He couldn't hang, he couldn't hang with the last time he was there. - Yeah, exactly. - So yeah, I don't think either of these guys look that impressive. I love this tournament format though. I'm really glad that they, that Strike Force has doing, is doing it because it's sort of a lame duck brand right now since UFC bought it. But at least this is something different. Too bad the main event wasn't good. - Yeah, why not? So let me go forward to the, the, the co-main event. Josh Barnett versus Brett Rogers. Everyone expected that Rogers would lose this fight by submission and of course he did. Barnett got him down with ease in the first round. - And captain, stayed in full mount the entire round just sitting on the guy's stomach so he couldn't breathe anymore. He got the beginnings of an arm triangle choke. Didn't even pass aside, Brett Rogers just tapped. He was like, no, you know what? I know I can't get out of this. You're gonna get me anyways. Let's just end this and get me out of here. - Yeah, no surprises. Nothing really interesting about this. Barnett looked good, so. - Barnett looked like Barnett taking on a guy who's ultimately a one dimensional guy who started his MMA career very late in life and does not have time to develop a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a black belt. That's the ultimate truth. Rogers, great strong guy, a guy, I love the guy but he's ultimately the Dan Hardy of the Heavyweights. - Yeah. - He's starting too late to become well-rounded. - Yeah, well, he's just not, he doesn't have the time or I guess the desire to work on the other aspects of this game. - So Barnett, now he has Karatanov next. He's probably gonna make it to the finals of this. - I think so too. - Yeah, well, Dana called Cabarna to win because he said this guy's got the easiest draw. All those gotta get through is to do a guy who's one dimensional, another guy who's one dimensional and the winner of what could possibly be a brutal slug fast between over aiming Silva. - Yeah, neither one of them might come out of there without an injury so. - Yeah, but particularly amused me about Barnett is the commentary in this fight absolutely splendid. (laughing) - As usual, let's try it, of course. - Oh yeah. - Just masterful. - Wonderful, great stuff. - Morrow and all decided because at one point, Josh Barnett, he's a catch wrestler but this isn't licensed to make mockery of the sport. You know, calling for the Von Eric Deathclaw. - Yeah, the thing is he, I don't think he was trying to make fun of it. He's also just a pro wrestling show. I think he was just being wacky, you know. - But Barnett's being wacky, but you don't have to also be wacky too. You don't have to, everyone follow the guy, it's down into the gutter, you know. - And if you're gonna be wacky, be Michael Chavallo 'cause he's the professor, he's the boss root. He's the voice or those two guys on the prelim card, fantastic. I loved every minute of that prelim card and it had-- - Well, we'll get to that. - Yeah, we'll get to that, oh, just unbelievable. - You can see us, we'll see us later. But then Barnett grabs the mic and he begins to-- - Cut a promo. - Basically cut a promo trying to promote this. - No, good for him. - And you know, he starts with a very loving promo where he's like, you know, crowd, I love the Mavericks, I love Texas, everything's bigger in Texas and the crowd's kind of cheering and he just keeps going and going and going. And even though he's saying, and I want you guys to support me, the crowd just started to boo him and boo him and boo him. - Well, he got tired of the promo after all. - Because the last thing that they wanted to hear was a pro wrestling promo and then Josh Barnett, who I guess is the world's biggest Warhammer fan, decided that, like his last promo, he's gonna end this with, I'm gonna be on top of a pile of bodies with a pile of gold in my hand after he's finished adding more skulls to his throne and more blood, blood, blood, blood, blood. - I don't think there's any, there's no reason to really cut that promo up. I mean, it's a guy talking about the fight, he's going with what he knows and he did a good job. - He's allowed to use skulls to his throne. - Why not? - He's allowed to speak all he wants on the fight he won. - So good for him. - He certainly has a character. - We'll be moving along. (laughing) - So how are the audience in him? Much like all of us are over in his cheap heat of pulling out the doll smavox fan. - We could talk forever about the commentary and all this stuff. Let's just move on to the fights. Let's talk about the fights. - K.J. Nunes versus Jorge Mousewell, or George Mousewell. - I was really looking forward to this. - Yeah, I thought Nunes was gonna do better than he did. It was definitely bad. - Wow. - He didn't look bad, he looked outmatched. - Yeah, I mean, he's the pro boxer who got out boxed. - He got out boxed, but he also got out wrestled. Mousewell all took him down. That's where he did so much of the damage aside from that brutal knee in the front line. - And he was knee, he was knee a bunch of top. - That was a head kick wasn't it? That wasn't even a knee. - He got a head kick and he got knee on. He had like four times, I think. - Yeah. - Yeah, he got out really old class every stage. - Like the boxing was fine. It's just that K.J. Nunes didn't have an answer for the Muay Thai or the wrestling. - Yeah. - You know, he didn't have a response to the knees, the head kicks are being taken down. - And I think he looked better in the D.S. fight, much better in the D.S. fight than he looked. - D.S. - He went to the box with the guy. - Yeah, I guess. And Mousewell all kind of drives me crazy. I think he's a good fighter, but every time it looks like there's gonna be an awesome sling fast, he does that little boxing back pedal thing and it never gets going, but I can't blame the guy for being a smart fighter. I just, every time I want to see these guys go at it and he's just too elusive. - Mousewell all will not commit for a finish. - Yeah, that's true. - He's gonna take his time and pick you apart and get to this game. - He did a good job of it. As long as he does it in an interesting fashion and he looks like he, like, he'll pick a guy apart and he'll deliver shots like that great head kick and I'm fine with that. You know, I don't need him to change up his style. I mean, I enjoyed Machita when he was first starting to do that too. So I don't have a problem with how Mousewell thought. - And he was very violent at this fight. He did a very good job. And now him versus Gilbert Melendez. - Yeah, that's gonna be good. I'm gonna do that. - That's gonna be good. - So we go forward to Daniel Cormier versus Jeff Munson. - That's okay. - This was wrestling versus wrestler. - So I don't think it was a great fight but I thought that Cormier's striking looked really good. - It looked okay. - I've seen it better than any other time I've seen him fight. That's true, he is improving. - Yeah, he is improving but again, he's both, like I looked at these guys and the first thing I said to Greg when we were watching it was like, these guys both look so old and small. I mean, ultimately they're two, five, 10, have 235 pound guys in the heavyweight division who are gonna be significantly outmatched in terms of size once they move up the card. - It's hard to take them seriously. Well Munson, I mean Munson's been around for a long time. - Munson's 40, he's up 40. - Serious, serious vet. And Cormier is 35 and he's small for the division. - Yeah, he is very small for the division. - And he's talked about cutting a 205 already. He wants to lose first. But if you're undefeated, don't wait till you lose the cut. Cut. - Well, I think he has a similar style to Rashad and I worked out really well for Rashad going down to the heavyweight. - Definitely. - So maybe you should follow suit. - Yeah. Well, I mean, I think if Cormier goes down to 205 with his wrestling and he's fairly powerful. - Yeah, he's improving striking. - He's improving striking. He's gonna clean up that division. I don't think there's any guy in the 205 do we wait division? No. - He's trying for us, I can handle it. - Yeah, I don't think he's gonna drop 25 pounds anytime soon though. But I think it should be an inevitable-- - If you think you can do it, go ahead and do it. Because right now they're putting your champion against Fedor, go down and make your mark. Because right now in heavyweight, you're never going to get a title shot. - Yeah, and you've only got so much time to make an impression before strike force gets dissolved. - That's very true. - But he's already won four fights in strike force. - Yeah, but nobody notices him. - Four fights, one more thing I need to do. He's not even a tournament. - Yeah. - I know. - I've never two of those fights have happened since the tournament started. - This is true. That's true. - Yeah, but he was on two of the fights before the tournament started. - No tournament. He still brought in Karatana and Barnett with all his licenses, he just didn't give this guy a shot even in the tournament. You got a favor, even if he continues to do well, over him's going to have to fight the winner of the tournament unless he's over him himself. You know, other guys in the tournament are going to, all those guys are ahead of Cormier. He's well out of the title contention in heavyweight. - I have no problem with him not having been in that tournament. They made him an alternate, that's fine. - It's just he's going to have to make, he's going to have to make a real mark. - I mean, four. - Before strike force goes. I maintain, even no matter how well he does, he's not going to be even in the top four guys in line for a shot at the title in heavyweight. If he cuts down to 205, he might be the next guy. - I agree, yeah. - Who do you put Henderson with other than Cormier? - Oh geez, I don't know. - Or OSP maybe. - Yeah, yeah. - You know, he's definitely in the top two. - I agree, if he can cut 25 pounds, which I think is an extra 25 pounds, which I think is easier or something done, it's a good number of four. - How's the next 25 pounds? He's fighting us walking around? - Oh yeah, I guess so. - He's fighting 10, he's fighting us walking around. - Yeah, so yeah, it's easy from the kind of X-25 pounds, what I was going to do is cut 25 pounds. - Yeah. - And he's certainly got some bones to us. (laughing) Then we go forward to Valentin Overing versus Chad Griggs. Grave Digger came out to-- - Chad Griggs is awesome. - Yeah, to just a big ovation from the Texas crowd. They definitely want to see him do well. - Yep. - Overing came out. Griggs charged and put him up against the cage. Over him tried to push back, Griggs turned into a lateral drop, got to the top position, started pounding. Looked like it was going to be the referee was going to stop it because he was just sabotaging the guy. No, overing him and I tapped out to start. - I thought it was really impressive because on the way for being taken down, Griggs reversed it, landed on top and finished it from there. This guy, he's got that killer instinct. - Yeah, he does. - He's great. - He's impressed me three times now. So, and he's impressed pretty much everybody three times. There isn't really a bad thing you could say about this point. - He's got three crushing stoppages in the row. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - He's the guy I want to see dropped into the UFC middle of the heavyweight division with your guys, like your Christian more craft. - Yes, Mitrios. - Your Mitrios and your Pat Berries and these guys, that would be just awesome. - I have a human Pat Berries and him and Crow Cop would be both be great fights. - Him and Travis Brown. - Yeah. - Wow, yeah. - Again, Griggs. - God, the division is so deep. - Griggs would be, I think, too small for a guy like Travis Brown, but Griggs versus Roy Nelson, that match can't get better. - That could be really good. - This is a guy who can't stop punching versus a guy who can't stop taking punches. (laughing) - I think we're all fairly in the Chagrigs camp now. - Oh, absolutely. - Absolutely. - I've been, since he's Lashley, I've been noticing him, so. - And again, for wacky commentary moments, after he stops the fight, Marlon all yells, "Well, wait a minute." And can Chamauk's like, "No, it was a fair stopage." - Don't make the same mistake, yeah, he said that we've made fun of him before. - That's a bit fair, but we've had him in my head. (laughing) Chamauk stops him and says, "You know, "that was a fair stopage." Not only was it like a fair stopage, had it been a stopage, it was a tap-out. - Yeah. - Look at the monitor on your desk. - Yeah, yeah, exactly. - There's a monitor there. - There's a monitor there. - Just wait a minute before you start tearing into the officiating and maybe wait for a replay. - That's who it is. - He's really the boy who cried wolf. He just always wants a controversy. - He wants to be the guy who calls the thing that nobody else calls, but he'll do that 100 times and be wrong to do it. - Yeah, well, he'd call that Barnett would win by submission, you know? - In the second round, yeah. - Made sure to notice that anyway. - Who else would have thought this was coming? - All right, really quickly. What was on the prelim card? - Michael Schavall didn't like fast-roon. That's what was on the preliminary card. - Honestly, the prelim card did not have a ton of great fights on it, but just how excited Michael Schavall goes, 'cause this was an HD net, so they weren't burdened by the showtime guys. You got to pick their own commentators. - Yeah. - Schavall was so excited, he gets you excited. - Yup. - And Boss Ruten is funny and he's got a good technical knowledge of the sport. - He even made shark fights entertaining. - Yeah, he did. - They both made this list, it's tremendously entertaining. As for the fights themselves, Jay-Z Kavalkante, he ended the fight with Justin Wilcox with an accidental eye poke in round two. - Yeah. - It happens, at least they were fighting the entire time before. - They're probably re-matched. - Yeah. - Maybe. Connor Hoon versus Magna Omeda, this was a pretty interesting fight. Both guys had ground specialists. This was a very tactical battle. One thing I have to say is just Connor Hoon, he got caught in two really, really tight submissions, an arm bar and a choke, and he just was knocking a tap. He was like, "No, I'm winning this fight, I'm on top. "I'll take the awoken arm to get the win." His arm looked terrible within this fight. - Yeah, well the ref raised it and he winced in pain. Like his arm was dislocated or broken or something. - So I actually missed these fights, I was out of town, are they a good fight? Should I capture them? Not the eye poke fight, but the other one? - Well, they're all decisions pretty much. And I don't know, I guess it's worth watching. I mean, just for the commentary, it's worth watching. - Sounds good. - It's worth it listening to Shavala. - Yeah, there's some pretty good fights here. Nishan Baral looked like a pretty interesting fight. - Oh, that was a good fight, yeah, yeah. - He had a very, very impressive winning. And Isaac Valley Flag, he looked like he got destroyed in his match. He did not look like he won his fight. Yet somehow he managed to pick up the win. - The man with the towel strikes again. - Fourth or fifth time, I've seen a Greg Jackson guy who I could have sworn was losing the fight. And then all of a sudden the judges just picked him up then I gave him the win because it was Valley Flag, Nick Mamalas versus Adrian Walsley. - Nick Ring. - Nick Ring. - Garcia's done it before. - When Garcia's done it twice. I guess they're fanning against John. So. - What's Nick Mamalas, a grudge guy? - That's Jackson's count. - Oh, is it okay? Oh yeah, sorry. What am I thinking? - Carl McCon went in. - And speaking of Jackson fighters, what have we got this weekend? - So this weekend, we've got the other Jackson guy. Nate Marquart versus Ricksory. - The other one. - Now, Marquart's the one guy who can't win decisions than this can. - That's what I was thinking. - Yeah. - It's taking on the story who's an incredibly good wrestler with a pretty ferocious trench in. - This is Marquart's first Walter Way guy. - First Walter Way guy. - And he's big for that division. That's so tough for you. - That's so tough for you. - He's big for the division, but so story. - The story's already been fighting in it. And Marquart's cutting down. - And the story says that he saw jail son and had the plan to beat Marquart. And he's gonna follow that game plan. That's a lot easier when son is that big. I think, I think story's gonna have to win this one just by, I don't know, I actually, I think I really like story. I really like the role he's on right now. But I think that Marquart might just be bigger and better at what he does. - This is a dangerous fight for story. - He took it on like what three weeks notice? - He's got a thing. - He's got a thing. - He's got a hope that maybe, well not hope. I mean, he's a great fighter, but Marquart might be fatigued because of the way cut. Though it has been a while, he's had some time to make the cut. - Well, the other hand, the Marquart is a wrestler and he does have a really, really good right hand. We know a story can take a punch. And we've seen Marquart out wrestled. Oh, comedy did it in jail son. - By bigger guys though. - By bigger guys. - That's my thing. - But if story thinks it's good enough, you know, if he can get this guy down and take out Marquart in this first fight in Walter way, that's a big feather. To take your fight on three nights, a few, three weeks notice and beat Marquart. - Yeah. Well, I don't think this is gonna be a, I don't think it's gonna be a domination, but I'm still gonna call Marquart to win this. - I really wanna see story keep this role up and I've been really behind him on this, but I just think this is a bad matchup. I think Marquart can win this. - I love Marquart and he definitely has a potential to win it fast. With that being said, I gotta respect stories, God's for taking a fight in short notice. I gotta respect the role he's been on. Marquart has not looked hot his last couple matches. I think if story's taking a fight, he's gotta be confident enough or maybe possibly enough that he's gonna be able to, he thinks he can out wrestle Marquart or have seen it done. - He had picked his fight. They offered it 'cause Rumble got injured and he took it 'cause he's Rick's story. You know, I don't think he picked it 'cause he thought he could win. He took it 'cause it was there. - I still think that story, you know, he's confident enough from self to think you can take on Marquart. I'd like to believe the guy. Let's see what he can do. - Yeah, I'll look forward to it. - So a story I'm about your back. Let's see if you can take on Marquart. And honestly, if you're looking to get a shot against GSP after Diaz, taking on Marquart's-- - Well, you're gonna have to go through it. - You're gonna probably have to go through Marquart at this point. - That's right. - After that, Congo is gonna take on, Czech Congo is gonna take on Popberry. - This should be great. - Yeah, this is a bottle of two great heavyweight strikers, which means that was gonna be wrestling match. (laughing) - I wanna see Berry actually come out swinging. He hasn't seen to do that in his last couple fights 'cause I know he can punish Congo if he comes out with the right mindset. - Yeah, Berry's got all the striking tools you need. He does. And I think he's a better striker than Congo. - I think so too. His last two fights just hasn't brought it. - Well, without being said-- - You're including the Crocop fighting that though, where I think he was just overwhelmed by facing his idol. So I'm not even gonna count the Crocop fight in Berry's resume there. - And I honestly don't think Congo is all that great. - Well, the thing of it is, Congo is a pretty talented striker himself. He's gonna have a size advantage. - That's dope. - To me, I think that the weakness of Berry is he doesn't have a particularly great wrestling game. Congo's shown that when he needs to get a takedown and knee a guy when he's down, he can do it. And Congo also brings in a vast array of striking techniques that Berry doesn't have. Congo's got, you know-- - Growing kicks. - Growing kicks, eye pokes. - Grab the cage. - Short grabs, you know, like, he definitely, he likes to fight with the quench, he likes to fight dirty. And I think that's a good stuff. If you wanna, like, don't let Berry tear off on it. Grab 'em, put 'em against the cage and get a little bit dirty with 'em. - That's how Congo's probably gonna have to win this fight. - Yeah, oh, that's definitely-- - If he lets, if he tries to swing with Berry, I really think Berry's gonna take him down, like, just get him and completely destroying him. - It's time for Berry to come out and do it and I'm calling him-- - Well, he's such a cool guy. It's way too fun to come out, you know? - Berry's a great guy and, you know, I definitely have nothing but the best wishes for him. I just think that Congo is a little bit more complete of a fighter. That's why I'm calling Congo to win. 'Cause to me, they're both very, very good strikers. Berry's probably better, but Congo's not, no, no punk either. And Congo has a bit more of a developed wrestling game. And he's willing to be, he's, he's willing to go with it. He's willing to be dirty about it, so. - Cool. - What are you guys calling? - Berry. - Berry. - Berry. - Berry. - You can't call him. - Berry. - He's awesome. - No, you can't, I just did. Matt Brown versus John-- - It's Berry's time. - It's Berry's time. - Berry's time. Well, we hope, we hope. Matt Brown versus John's doing this at Doomsday Howard. - Brown took this up the last minute. He's on a three-fight losing streak, but I like the guy. - Yeah. - He's tough. - Yeah, he's tough, and John Howard is tough, and-- - Both these guys are actually inconsistent. - They're inconsistent, but that, a lot of the time, that makes for a really good fight. I think these guys are gonna, and these guys are both intense too. - They're inconsistent because they both come out and brawl. - Exactly, exactly. - And that's not a good way to win fights, but it's definitely a good way to entertain a crowd. - Yeah, for sure. - I'm calling Howard. - Yes, oh my. - To me, Howard's a more powerful man. I definitely think that I was gonna win this one. - Cool. - And then we go forward to Matt Mitrell and taking on Christian Warcraft. - Awesome. (laughing) So good. Dude, these guys, these are tough dudes. This is gonna be the really good monsters, yeah. - These are two very, very big men. Both of them, 6-4 from Mitrell and 6-6 were more craft. - I'm having a hard time with the call in this one too. - Both cut and weight, I think, to make heavy weight. Mitrell and has shown an extremely improved game, and he's training in a better camp now as with Rufusport. His training has been striking with Pat Berry, and he's got some good wrestling too. More craft, he's very, very intense. He's driven, he's hungry. He wants to make a name for himself, and if you take out a guy on a four-flight wing street, there's a good way to do it. He happens to have a pretty good submission game, and he's very, very strong, very powerful striker. - I don't really have anything to base this on, 'cause I find it's tough to call. I'm gonna go with Mitrell. - I'm gonna go with Mitrell as well. I think that Morecraft's chin was exposed slightly in the stuff in Stru fight. - Yes. - And Mitrell is just a monster in our country, so I definitely think that I'm gonna call Mitrell for this. - Well, Mitrell is definitely, has some a lot of upsides to him, but to me, Morecraft is just, he's too hungry, and he's got too many tools, and he's too much of a development fighter. I think that Mitrell is a little bit too behind on his game, starting too late. - Yeah. - And I think that Morecraft will be able to surprise him, so that's my call for this. - Oh, that's valid. I'm still calling Mitrell now. - No, it's a good call. This one's a pick on to me. - Yeah. - That's how I feel. It'll be a good one though. And then all of the prelims are on Facebook, which is pretty cool, starting really early, like five months. - There's some good ones. - Yeah, which is really quick. - It's Tyson Griffin versus Mandeville Gambirian. - This is Tyson Griffin's first fight. - First my featherweight is taking on Mandeville Gambirian. Both these guys cut to featherweight, so neither one's gonna have a size advantage. - Then Joe Daddie Stevenson is making his featherweight to be against Javier Vasquez. - He can win this, I don't think Vasquez is that great. - Yeah, well, definitely. Joe Daddie's definitely, he's mixed, but so is Vasquez. - Danzig was his last fight, wasn't it? - Yeah, he's on a real slide. He needs this, and I think he can do it. - Yeah, absolutely. - And then Joe Lozon's gonna take on Kurt Warbinton. - Lozon's got that for sure. - Yeah, I can't believe he's so far down the card on the Facebook prelims. - Yeah, I know. - He's awesome. - Dan Roberts who just fought at UFC 129 in his club, Patrick. He's gonna be taking on Rich Antinido of Ultimate Fighter fame. Ricardo Lamas is gonna take on Matt Grice. And Michael Johnson, also of Ultimate Fighter fame, is gonna be taking on Edward Falotto. - Yeah, cool. - Anything quick in the news? - Really quick, Spike TV's running in date Mark Hart Marathon all day, Sunday, to build up to this fight, even though it's on a different network. So if you just- - Thank you for using him, hang it out. - Is the Damien Maya fight gonna be on here? - I'm sure it will be. I'm willing to put money on that. - I'm sure they could find time for that fight. - I would actually like to see the son and fight again too, because I really thought that Mark Hart looked all right in that fight. He got out wrestled, but he tore son in a part from a lot. - Yeah, he didn't stop fighting in that fight. That's the last time I think we've released to see Mark Hart show some real heart. - Yeah, I enjoyed that fight, other than the fact that Mark Hart lost. - I'm gonna have to watch the Mark Hart marathon. And MMA's not happening in New York this year. - No, well- - They came close. - The bill, the bill ran out of time, but it's run out of time the last two years as well, so. - Well, we don't live in New York, so. - Yeah, but I mean, it's important. - Toronto is a big victory for us. - There's one last pen that Pegman needs to fall and that's Madison Squarecard. - Which it will, it's inevitable. - Well, so I wanted 'cause there'll be Buffalo cards we can go to, 'cause Buffalo's real close. - Yeah, for sure. - And the last thing is there's a strike force challenge card this Friday with not a lot on it, but Ryan Coacher is fighting again against Matt Ricehouse, who I don't know who that is. But I wanna see Ryan Coacher fight again, and also the first female fight that Zufa has ever run now that they own strike force. And that's Jermaine Durandomei versus Julia Butte, and Jermaine Durandomei's supposed to be really good kickboxer. - Jermaine Durandomei I've seen before, she's a phenomenal kickboxer. Julia Butte likes to brawl too, so I mean. - But she got knocked out in like 10 seconds the last time I saw her fight, so. - Yeah, but. - Is she Canadian? - Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. - Honestly, she's probably knocked out in the nights like this one, 'cause Jindarmi is a very, very kickboxer. - I can't call against a Canadian though, and I'll probably watch this card just 'cause I've been supporting women's MMA, just like you support Canadians. - Yeah, for sure, why support both? - Yes. - And this has both, so. - It's female Canadian, double sport. - There you go. All right, 10 to the other, it's a bit of other news, but we're out of time, so it's not important. - Thank you for tuning in, you've listened to us on 93.3 CFMU, you can also find us at thehammermma.com. - And addictedmma.com, live at breathless, stay addicted, have a good week.
