(heavy rock music) - Hello, you're listening to the hammer. I am your host, Dave, join us always by my co-hosts. - Greg, how's it going guys? - And Steve, hey. - So we were in attendance with the score fight series last night, able to get some press and watch the fights. It was a good night of fights overall. Some of the last ones were slow, but a lot of the openers were really, really fun. - This show had some former UFC guys on there, like Sokaju, and Joe Jorkson, and yeah, it's actually a fairly good card for a local Mrs. Lager card, yep. - So the main event was Mary Saramskins versus rising star Jordan Meen. Meen looked okay in this fight, but Zaramskins also looked great. Meen won this one by unanimous decision, so look forward to seeing him probably making it into the UFC sometime soon. - That was his big thing. He had said that if he, winning this fight and beating a dream champion, which should be his ticket to the UFC, hopefully this December, and he beat him. - Yeah, it's a Tennessee main soon. - Absolutely. Joe Jorkson took on Luigi Firovanti. - Dorkson looked good and picked up unanimous decision here, with only one judge giving it 29-28, and one else giving it 3-27. - Dorkson won, I'll Dorkson won that, outright, I don't know why this was-- - Yeah, I didn't see why there, how Firovanti won around. It didn't look like that to me. But Dorkson picks up a win, well done. - We talked to Joe Dorkson afterwards, and we'll have an interview with him on our regular live show, coming up to the next few weeks. - Roy Bolton fought Terry Sokaju. This fight was a little bit slow pace, but tried for a lot of single legs. Sokaju stuffed most of them and did some judo throws. Kind of a dead fight, but it's Sokaju's as long as-- - Well, as much as it was-- - Like how it started with the throws and everything. It got really boring, and the crowd kinda turned on it, actually. - Both guys gassed, but the third round, both guys were so tired, and it was, it wasn't very impressive. - I think everyone was just very excited to see Sokaju, who they know, when it was a pretty cool fighter, but just, it was, you're right, it's near the end of a long night. - Then Doug Evans took on Antonio Carvalo, and for featherweight division, Carvalo picks up your name as decision-win, and so could you also won his fight, if I did not say that? - Yeah. - In 2008, but Carvalo, he looked good in his fight very, very fast, good hands for very good kicks, but maybe a little bit too respectful. - No, not in that progression. - He seemed like he was, he hugged Evans a lot, he helped him up after each round, but he didn't seem like he was really gonna go out and knock his guys head off. So, yeah, I mean, it didn't help Pat Barry against Crow Cop, it didn't help GSP against Matt Hughes, against a guy like Doug Evans, go and punch him out. - You can't be tentative at this level. - Yeah. - But still decision victory for Carvalo, they can all be great fights, and he won, so look good, we'll see him a little later. - Yep. - Then we go forward to, but to me it was the fight of the night, Adrian Woolley versus Nick Mamalas, this fight was fantastic, Mamalas is a great striker, he rocked Woolley with an uppercut, and he got a brutal head kick in the second round that opened up Woolley's head. Woolley is a great wrestler, very compact, a guy looks like a tank, he managed to pick up and slam Mamalas at least six times in this fight. - You guys said he was five or seven more, with five or seven more takedowns. - You guys just go to his Matt Siridge? - Yeah, yeah. - He looks and talks like a 135 pound man. - He's got that Matt Sir at Charm too. - Yeah, he's he, and we've got, we managed to get interviews with both guys after the fight, so stay tuned and they will, we'll be playing those interviews for you. - Right after we finish here, we'll have to see you. - Charm and Charm and guys, Mamalas trades with Grudge, he is going to be in the UFC. - Probably. - I virtually guarantee you. Woolley, he actually said he's got some eyes on Joe Warren, who's the featherweight champion in Bellator, so. - The thing in Bellator though, is if you want to crack at the champ, you have to win a tournament. So first he needs to be invited to Bellator, then he needs to win a tournament, and then he can get Joe Warren, but. - Yeah, set the bar high, why not? - For sure. - It's good to have a dream, and I think Woolley's, he's a great wrestler, very compact, very powerful. - One announced this week, Bellator is starting to do Canadian shows as well, so maybe he can get into a tournament. - Yeah. Then we go forward to Darren Cooley versus Josh Hill. This was an interesting fight. Cooley is from Stockton, so the crowd booed him, 'cause they knew where that's where the Diaz brothers are from. Then they announced that he trains that Cesar Gracie, Jujitsu, the crowd booed him more. (laughing) Josh Hill is from Hamilton, the same town that the hammer is from. There was a huge Hamilton Churing crowd here. - My entire section. - There was, there was mass, at least a hundred fans here from Hamilton, For Hill, that left right after the Hill fight, basically. Hill overpowered him. Cooley kept trying to pull a guard, but it always ended up with Hill landing on top and just punching him from a guard. - Yeah, I think we had said that this is the worst of the Cesar Gracie Diaz style. - Yep. - It's a bad idea as impression. - Yeah. - Yeah, not able to strike that well, and not being quite as decisive with your submissions. This fight looked like it was gonna go doctor stoppage when Hill opened up Cooley's eye in the third round. However, the fight was on the bridge of the nose. The doctor like, go on. Cooley had apparently enough vision to continue. Hill just crushed him after that with strikes and picked up being able to make his decision victory. 3027, 3027, 2928 from one judge. - I have no idea. - No idea. - What didn't Cooley want? - There's, there's, he went for an arm bar and it didn't work at all. And right after that, he got nailed with a brutal shot. So, there's no way Cooley won around here. It didn't happen. And then, Kurt Southern took on George Bredo. Bredo's got some Bred Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but the story of this match was Southern overwhelmed with wrestling. He just kept pushing him down and taken him down at ease. He looked okay on his feet, but not great. At one point in the third round, Southern went for a dive punch into a guard. Bredo managed to somehow shock it and jump on Southern's back while he was still in mid-air. Look like he was going for a rear naked choke, but Southern managed to power up, flip it over and go back to flow guard. - Yeah, that rear naked choke attempt was the only thing Bredo showed the whole match, other than a lot of a tough chin. What I've learned from Bredo in local fights is that he's got good BJJ and he is tough as nails. - Tough as nails. - He's not, I never see him win, but I see him take a beating and get back up and that impressed me. - Well, in the second round, honestly, Josh Rosenthal was showing a lot of mercy 'cause Bredo was getting hammered with ground and pound. Southern had him down the whole round, was just nailing him. So, and his, Bredo was another one who was bloody and it looked like he was stunned in her. So-- - Good fight too. - Yeah. - Good fight. Southern's at 155. He's got some upside. He's got a really, really good brush-loading base. So, I mean, he, I think he's got to work on his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and his striking 'cause he didn't look comfortable on his feet. And it didn't look like he knew how to finish once he got the guy down. - But that could be developed. - If he develops that, he's gonna make an impact. So then we have Tristan Johnson versus Will Romero at featherweights. Good fight back and forth. It could have gone either way, but it went to Johnson 29-28 unanimous. Good striking from both guys, a lot of head kicks. - Wild times, but still pretty entertaining. - Yeah, wild but entertaining. - Yeah. - And then the opener of the-- - Of second-toe, yeah. - Second opener of the night. Mike Sledsian versus Alec Ricci. This was another great fight. This would have been Father Knight if William and Mamalas hadn't been so good on most UC cards, this would have been Father Knight. So this is lightweight. Sledsian was pushing the pace with a lot of clenches and a lot of hard shots. Ricci showed some multi-striking low kicks and clinch knees. Then in the second round, Sledsian had him rammed up against Cage. I guess he didn't like his grip 'cause all of a sudden he let go and step back, but he let go and step back with his hands down. So Ricci came over with a brutal overhand right and crushed him with a knockout. Two minutes and 22 seconds and a round two. - Yeah, I think had Sledsian not made that mistake and this fight continued, it would have definitely been a contender for Father Knight, but I think another thing Sledsian was that it ended early, but it was a great knockout. It was really impressive, nice overhand right. - Yeah, so well done, Ricci. When you get a crowd that's that far behind you and he managed to deliver a knockout, that impressive. - Yeah, he brought all of Woodbridge with him. - Yeah, he had a massive section to him. The only guy that got more of a cheer on the night than he was Josh. - Josh Hill, yeah. - So, and then the real opener, Mike Riley versus Tyler Hardcastle, kind of a fun fight. Both guys are from Canada, but the crowd was kind of booing Riley and cheering Hardcastle 'cause apparently Hardcastle bought some fans too. - I think he's from Brampton, that's why. - Yeah, so he's very, very close to Mississauga. - Yeah, this is a great way to start the night. Interesting fight. Both guys were being very aggressive in the first round. Hardcastle was throwing a lot of short elbows and landing him to the head, which is normally pretty devastating, but Riley was just shrugging him off like it was nothing. And then Hardcastle looked like he was getting tired 'cause he was missing a lot of shots and throwing pretty wildly. In the second round, Riley grabbed him into a clinch, pulled him and did a beautiful judo takedown slam. So hard that he managed to knock Hardcastle out off a judo slam. - Yeah, hardcastle hit his head on the canvas. - Oh, the back of his head went right into the canvas. It looked in a bounce twice. - It was like a hockey fight when the guy falls down and hits his head on the eyes. - So he was out for a while. He was lying there for minutes. - Yeah, at least three, four minutes before they could get him up. He was really, really rocked by this slam. But Riley, very impressive. You rarely see a judo guy missing, get a knock-out slam. - Yeah. - Two minutes and two seconds into the second round. Well done, Riley. - Yep, so this will be airing on the score in Canada. - At some point, it seems like we're going to try and cover a lot of local MMA if we can. 'Cause I mean, these are rising stars. These are guys, Jason Young, who we saw a couple months ago fight at a local show, is on the UFC card this weekend. The Santa's a Lesnar. And who do you guys think are the go-to guys? - I think that Maine, with a win over a dream welterweight champion, like Sir Ampskis, who's a really tough guy. And with the fact that the UFC is now running three shows in Canada per year, Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto, Maine is going to get the call. You will see him in the UFC. It won't be on, you know, at first it won't be on the main card, it'll be pretty, pretty on him. But he's got enough of an upside that even in welterweight, he's going to make his way up. - Yep. - I don't know if it'll be at the top but he'll make his way up. And I think Southern, if he develops a skill a little bit more, he'll do well as well. - Same with Josh Hill. - Josh Hill is another guy who looked pretty impressive. And Dorksing, you know, the story of Dorksing is sometimes he has a rough run in the UFC, but at the lower level, he's great. - Yeah. - He'll, he makes his way back into those promotions 'cause he goes on huge winces. - Well, it's definitely a UFC caliber fighter. - It just has runs in the UFC, haven't been. - He's also fought some really tough guys in the UFC, too, so. - He's definitely good. - He's a super nice guy. We got to actually get an injury with Dorksing as well, which we'll be playing on the show later. (silence) - So I'm here with Adrian Walsley, who is one of the stars that showed tonight. You're in a great fight with Nick McMiles. How you feeling now? - Hey, I feel like I look like Brad Pitt, who's kidding him, you know? No, it's all good. I had a great war today with Nick McMiles. He's a tough kid, and that's exactly what I got. I got a war. - Now, you've always got really, really great grappling. You slam them all all over the place, but it seemed like you had a bit of an edge on with the onion, with the strength, with the stand up. How do you feel standing up? - I mean, I feel comfortable. I mean, I don't feel great when I'm getting need in the face and punched in the face and kicked in the face, but who does? But, you know, I'm not afraid to sit there in the pocket and, you know, put on an exciting fight for the fans 'cause that's, you know, at the end of the day, that's who pays the checks. You know, these fans want to come here and they want to watch a great fight. - When lose or draw, I think you put on an exciting fight. - Absolutely. Now, Nick caught you with a really brutal look and head kick in the second round and kind of cut your scalp. For the fans that can't see this, your scalp is still kind of bled, bled, bled it up. Did that hurt you? Did you imagine it's just tough through ever? - No, you don't want to go. I didn't feel, you know, when you're in a fight, you don't feel anything. You know, you're willing to go through anything, and I certainly wasn't going to get my ass kicked in my own backyard, so there's no way I was going to back down from anyone. - Now, is there any one thing in your game that you'd like to improve for your next fight? - Oh, there's tons of things in my game I'd love to improve, who's getting new? I'd love to be a better grappler. I'd like to be a better striker, obviously. You know, if I was taller, better looking, that'd be great too, but beggars can't be choosers. - But at least you've got your arm, right? - Yeah, that's it. I got lots of personality. - So one thing I'd like to ask you, if you could have any one dream fight in your division, one guy that you'd have to fight next, who would that guy be? - Someone that's, I don't want to say equal 'cause everyone would trash me for saying it, but Joe Warren, you know, there's a guy that everyone talks about that he's just a wrestler and he's tough and he's gritty. Cool, let's put two gritty wrestlers. You know, let's get down and dirty, let's swing for the fences, and at the end of the day, we'll see who's tougher. You know, I'm cool with that. I know his striking black luster, as is mine. You know, I'm not gonna lie about it, and yeah, I'd love to swing at Joe Warren's head. - Sounds like a great plan, but let's do fight. Thank you very much for taking the time to talk with us. - Thanks so much, guys, cheers. - Thank you, I'll take it, pretty fight. - Thanks a lot, thank you. - Cheers, guys. (crowd chattering) (upbeat music) (crowd chattering) - So, I'm here with Nick Mamos, he's just won one of the best fights of the night against Adrian Wolsey, and Nick, how do you feel about your win? - You know, overall, I'm pretty happy a win to win. I think it could have gone a little bit better for me. My conditioning wasn't quite there in the third round, but overall, I'm happy. - Now, it seemed like Wolley had a pretty big advantage in the wrestling department, but you had a lot of more Christmas stand-up. What was your strategy for the fight? - Yeah, I really wanted to keep it standing and just out-strike him on it. I knew he's not comfortable on his feet, and I figured once I put some weather on his face, you know, he just get more and more frustrated. It was working pretty good the first two rounds, that third round, like I said, I just kind of didn't have the gas tank for this one, so. - Now, it seemed like in the second round, you got him with a really, really good head kick, and he opened him up pretty good. How bad was that cut? 'Cause it was hard to tell from the press. - You know, I really couldn't see it too good myself, but there was blood all over the place, so it was a pretty good kick. - Now, for your next goal, for your next fight, do you have anyone in mind, or? - Uh, you know, anybody, really. I'm not here to pick and choose who my fights are. I'm just, I'm taking anything that's thrown at me, and I'm ready to go. - Now, are you looking to fight in Canada again, or do you just work the circuit? - Yeah, I really liked it here. If I got invited back, I would definitely be interested in fighting in Canada. You know, the crowd was a lot of fun. They were into it the whole time. Obviously, they booed, but it was still a fun crowd, and I enjoyed it here. - Now, obviously, the decision was fairly, fairly close. If you had anything you could do again, to make it a little bit more decisive, what's the one thing you'd like to do other than the conditioning? - Finish him. In that first round, I had him rocked, you know. I didn't jump on it quick enough. I didn't finish him. But other than that, just, you know, it'd be nice to have a little bit more time and get better prepared for the three round war like that, so. - So how long did you have a notice for this fight? - Only a couple weeks, so I didn't have enough time to really get in great shape. I didn't have a long camp, so that affected me definitely towards the end. - Is there anyone in your camp that particularly had a big influencer game plan for this? - You know, everybody, at Grudge, it's great. Everybody really pulls together and throws in there two cents, and, you know, helps you come up with a game plan, and your partner's all trained, you know, the way the guy you're fighting is gonna fight, and so everybody there really pulls together and helps you out quite a bit. - So if you could have any one fight in your division, who would it be? - Miguel Torres, I would love to fight him. - Torres? I like your guy, a lot of good striking. - Yeah, he's got great striking. You know, he was a great champion, and I just think it'd be a good fun fight for me, so. - Well, I'd love to see it. Thank you very much, take your time to talk to us, and we're here with Nick Moss.
