So it is April the 6th, and we've got a great show for you as we always try to do. We're going to talk about Strike Force coming up between the championship fight, between Nick Diaz and Paul Daley. Now this is the first card since Zufa bought the company. It is the first card since Zufa bought the company. Paul Daley still has a job for now. For now. For now. Yeah, we went to Aurelia for the first ever MMA card in Ontario. Yeah, it was pretty cool. A lot of great fights. It'll be airing in two parts on the 21st of April and 28th of April, I believe. Yeah, that'll be on the score. Yeah, and you know what? There are some really good fights on that show. Like, I actually think that even though even if you know what happened, it's still worth going on your way to see it. Yeah, there's one fight on there, the Jason Young fight, that was probably so far my pick for fight of the year. It was awesome. And also Chris Hordeski. Yep, he didn't look well. Pretty well. So check that out if you want to get the results. Now, we're going to go forward, and we're going to talk a little bit about Strike Force, Diaz and Daly. So Nick Diaz, who is one of the top draws on Strike Force at this point. They're champion of the welterweight division, and he's so unlikable that everyone wants to see the guy getting knocked around. I'm trying to think of anyone who's a bigger draw than Diaz right now in Strike Force. Fedor is still Fedor. Oh, yeah, since, oh yeah, I guess. But he is still. I mean, Fedor is still Fedor. Fedor impossibly the heavyweight tournament as a whole. Other than that, it's Diaz is their biggest draw for sure. Maybe Chrono because Chrono out drew him that one time aside, but Chrono hasn't fought in so long that we have no idea. But Diaz is definitely, you know, he superseded Conn Lee, he superseded, you know, Dan Henderson, he's passed. Yeah, Dan Henderson hasn't had anything for ratings. They spent so much money on that guy, and he's done, when they run cards with nobodies, even though those challengers cards do almost as well as the Dan Henderson fight. Yeah, it's true. Great fighter, but he just hasn't done anything for business. I think the shields lost, knocked him down a couple of pegs. It definitely hurt. But Diaz, I mean, the other thing is Dan Henderson, he's a quiet guy who's kind of late. That's true. Diaz is such an in-your-face guy, and he's, you know, he's ridiculous. He's a clown. I don't like the guy, but at the same time, I definitely tune in to see the guy get knocked out. You know, if anyone's going to do that, it's Paul Daly, who's also a ridiculous guy. But, you know, if anyone's going to knock out Diaz, this is the guy to do it. Daly is obviously very big for the division. Yep. He's a super powerful striker. He's tons of knockouts, tons of wins by knockout. And he's also got fired from the EOC for punching Koscheck after the bell, so he's got some attitude. Wrestling leaves a little bit to be desired, but usually his stand-up gets him through. But we saw in the Koscheck fight that he's definitely got a weakness when it comes to wrestling. Now Diaz has a great ground game. He's not necessarily a great wrestler, but he can take you down, and he can definitely submit you. He can easily submit Daly if he can actually get him to the ground. See, here, this is the problem with Daly, because Daly is a very one-dimensional fighter. Nick Diaz, as much as I don't care for the guy, he has got a phenomenal chin. Yep. He can take a punch. He can take many, many punches. Yep. He's got good, pretty good boxing game, pretty crisp technical boxing, because he's so long and so lanky. Yes, exactly. He can step back and jab you from all days, from all angles. He's got great cardio, and he's good on the ground. If he gets you on the ground, his Jiu Jitsu is top-notch. He's training with Cesar Gracie and some of the aces out there. And his takedown game doesn't suck. Now Paul Daly, yeah, he's a much more powerful striker. He's probably a more technical striker as well in terms of boxing. But he's going to have a dysfunction in reach. He's going to have a hard time looping those hooks in to a guy who's stepping back and jabbing him and so tall. And he's got no wrestling, no submissions, and no defense to them. Yeah. That's terrible for a mixed martial arts going into a championship fight. He's coming out. He's coming out of that the Rough House camp, right, where, I mean, we've said before that Rough House, they've got issues where they need to really improve the wrestling and a lot of their guys, like Dan Hardy and other guys who are great, talented, awesome on their feet. But just, you know, whenever they were put up against a wrestler, they run into problems. And I think Diaz, though he's not a wrestler, I mean, he's educated enough on the ground that I think he's going to actually submit Daly, to be honest. Well, my big issue here is if you look at the last couple of Diaz fights, even though he's maybe better in some, in certain areas, like on the ground, he's actually gone out there and let these guys punch him in the face. He stood toe to toe with guys where he could take them down. I think if he stands there, let's Daly hit him and he gets into a trouble. That's a bad idea. A very, very, very bad night for Diaz. Yeah, it's a bad idea. See, he did that with KJ Nunes, but he also did that with cyborg. Fair enough. But he actually had a legitimate hatred for KJ Nunes. Did he hate cyborgs? He let cyborgs sit there and kick him and punch him in the face tons of times before he finally mounted an offense. He sat there and took everything. Well, I mean, he likes to show off what a tough guy he is and what a great chain he's got. And he does have a great chain, but this isn't the guy to do that. Yeah, we agreed. But with that being said, I have to figure that his game plan for Daly has got to be different. I mean, hands of stone took on Daly. He's got one of the best champions in the division. Daly killed him. This was one of the most brutal mock-ups I've ever seen. You know, Smith collapsed on his face. It was ridiculous. Yeah. So, I mean, as much as Diaz does like to get wild and strike with guys to show that he's got improved striking, you have to figure against Daly. The guys at Gracie have got to be telling him. Yeah, sure. Take it to the ground and just finish the fight, win the fight. And I honestly do not think that Daly has got the ability to stay out of Diaz's takedowns. And I think if the fight does go to the ground, Daly is going to be helpful. It's over if it goes to the ground. It's over if you might as well just ring the bell. Yeah. So this fights either a KO from Daly or Diaz. I got to call it a submission for Diaz. This is my call for this. I agree submission for Diaz. However, I mean, this could conceivably go to the decision. Absolutely. You know, I think that and Diaz, I think, could out point Daly on the feet. I think that Daly's big thing is a great technical striker. That's true. However, his big thing is his power. He relies more on his power than his technical skill. Whereas Diaz is a great technical striker. And he's got such a reach advantage. If not a guy can KO each other, then I would see it go in a decision. And I think that Diaz with his reach and his style, he can win in a decision that way. He really is a much more well-rounded fighter than Daly is. I see. And I think that's how I think it goes. I think Diaz has got the ability to win by decision by out pointing Daly. With that being said, I don't want to envision him, you know, with that being said, if he goes for three rounds on his feet staying with Daly, you got to figure a venture. The guy's going to win something. This would be five rounds. Five rounds. Yeah, I forgot about that. So, yeah, decision five rounds now that I think about it. Like, I figure, yeah, Daly could land a knockout. Diaz could win by decision. He could win on the ground. I don't see Daly being able to out point the guy on the ground. I don't think that's even conceivable. I definitely don't think that Daly is going to be able to win the fight by decision because if the fight goes three, four rounds, Daly's got issues with his gas tank. He's going to be suffering a huge, reached advantage. He's facing a guy who's a much better technical striker. I got to figure in round four, Diaz has got the juice to go and he's going to start the jobs and the low kicks, which Daly isn't great at handling. Yeah, Diaz doesn't get that tired. He's too dumb to quit. Yeah. He's really. And we've already seen him. We've already seen him go five. A couple of times, actually. He went five rounds with KJ. Yes, he did. He punched in the face a record amount of times. That's ridiculous. I don't see Daly being able to hang with the guy. He's got to either knock him out fast or he's going to lose the fight. If he goes to the ground or for goes decision, he's losing. Diaz has got two ways to win. And as I said, I don't see Daly being able to beat Diaz because he knows what you've got. He knows you've got a right hand and a left hand and as long as he keeps his head down and tackles you, he knows this is going to win the fight. Diaz is too dumb to quit, but he's guys are smart enough to be telling him, "Get this guy on the ground." So I like Diaz. I think you guys are in the same boat. I agree. Cool. What's next on the car? So he got Gilbert Melinda's taking on Tatsuya Kawajuri. Now, Kawajuri is a great all-around fighter. He's 27 and 6. He's making his debut in Strike Force for the lightweight championship boat. Now his big deal with him is that he fought Josh Thompson on New Year's Eve. Yep. This is why Thompson is not getting this rematch. Right. So he beat Thompson in a different promotion. So Strike Force is like, "Yeah, New Thompson." That makes a ton of sense. You have to give title shots to guys who were coming up a loss anywhere. This is one of the smartest things Strike Force has done. I agree. But I mean, I would have rather they went internal to get one of their own rather than bringing someone else and being like, "Yeah, you're better than all of our guys." They've had to deal with dream and stuff. Well, why not do it? The lightweight division is not that deep. Exactly. So you've got to create, well, I'm not saying maybe create stars, but you've got to, you know, take what you can get. Really? And if Thompson's come off a loss, he does, it makes your organization look bush-leaked. To have a guy who's come off a loss, go over a title. So give the shot to the guy who beat him. Well, with that being said, Kawajuri, he managed to out wrestle Thompson at K-1 Dynamite. But Shinnyaoki managed to top him out last year. Gilbert Melendez beat Shinnyaoki. And he's also beat Tetsuya Kawajuri. They fought a few years ago. Yeah, he just did. He's won by a decision. Two years ago, though. So Kawajuri's saying like, "Oh, I've grown, you know, I've completed my game." Although Melendez just gained just like a fine wine. Melendez is winning this. Melendez is winning this. I mean, I don't know whether you guys are going to argue with me on that one, but I think Melendez has taken this. No, I think it would be a good fight. I think he's more well-rounded than Ioki. And because Melendez, like, pretty much annihilated Ioki when they fly. Yeah, that's right. I think you'll have a tougher time with Kawajuri, but he's going to win this. Melendez is straight. My palm of Kawajuri. And again, Melendez is training with Sizzo Grace. He's part of that D.S. career, and I don't like the guy. But he's definitely going to win this, and I'll tell you why. Kawajuri said that his camp was cut short by the nuclear disaster in Japan. And my sympathies go out to the guy. Yep. But you're preparing for a fight with Melendez. You can't have a short camp. Yeah. Yeah, that's not feasible. That's going to weigh heavily on Kawajuri. The other thing is, Kawajuri has come out and said, "I'm taking this fight like any other fight. I'm not training in a cage. I'm just training with my regular guys." Well, you know what? Every other Japanese fighter that's trained in the fight exclusive in a ring that's come over to a cage has gotten bombed. Yep. Because you're a wrestler. You're going to try to wrestle down a submission to a specialist. Melendez is great off his back. And he's got the cage. You can wall walk. Yep. He knows how to use the cage.
