(upbeat music) - Hello and welcome to the Hammer. I'm your host, Dave. Join us always by my co-hosts. - Greg, how's it going guys? - And Steve, hey. - It is our October 27th show. Welcome to, thank you for listening. You're listening to us live at 93.3 CFMU. You can also find us on iTunes or the internet at thehammermma.com. So we've got a great show for you. We're gonna review the previous UFC 121. We have the results of our calls and we have some news and follow it from that show as well. So let's begin with the most obvious one. Mr. Brock Lesnar versus the new Heavyweight Champion of the World, Kane Velasquez. - Gotta give you credit, good call. - Good call for this one. - Yeah, we picked Lesnar. - Yeah. - I was the one who picked Velasquez. Now Velasquez, I said that no matter what happened during this fight, it was gonna be decisive. If it went five, it would be the fight of the night. If it went shorter than that, we hope a guy finished would get the, get the sub of the sub or knock it out of the night. For this one, Lesnar came up, put him on the pressure early. He tried a flying knee. Maybe not the best thing. - And take down attempts. Velasquez popped right back up. As soon as he could, Velasquez got his leather in Velasnar's face. Lesnar started to fall apart. Velasquez hit him with some heavy shots. Brock backed off. - And he just punched the crap out. - Yeah. - Velasquez jumped on top of him and just crushed him. - Do you guys think that one spot where Lesnar fell over and got up and stumbled? Do you think that was a slip or he got hit? - It was hard to tell. - It was hard to tell. - Equal to bring a problem. - Oh, okay. - He got hit as equal to bring was thrown off. - Oh, okay. - And then she was just dissected up there. - Yeah, yeah. - Well, after that, I mean-- - After that, Velasquez just pounced on him and beat him to a pulp. Knocked her the night with a TKO at four minutes and 12 seconds in the round one. This, the damage done to Brock Lesnar was salvaged here. - He was cut with sick. - There was a seam that literally opened up on his cheek that you could have literally put two fingers into this cut and touched his bone. - It was gross. - Yeah. - It was something else. - It was brutal. - It's like something out of saw. - Yeah. - So, so this fight, like this was hyped up huge is probably gonna be the second biggest fight in the history of UFC. Did it, did to live up to expectations? What do you guys think? - It was short, but it was really exciting. - It was violent. - It was violent. It was really exciting. - It was the slow guys gave it their all. There wasn't any holding back. - Fast pays. - Fast pays, so I think it delivered. I really do. - Yeah, I mean, I think I'm a huge Brock Lesnar fan. I was kind of upset by the result a little bit, but came to Lasquez as a worthy winner. It was, it was great. What a great start to his title round. - Oh, go ahead, go ahead, Dave. - Well, I'm a huge fan of Steve Lasquez. I've supported Kane since almost the get-go. Obviously, I was rooting for him going into this fight. And with that being said, this was a fight that, one way or the other, it was gonna end early. Both these guys have such huge stopping power. I don't think, I don't think anyone said it was gonna go five. - I did. - I thought if it was gonna go five, it would be the mostly 10. - Great, you thought it was gonna be more of a wrestling match. - I thought it was gonna be the first round was gonna be really intense, like it was, but I thought that both guys were tough enough and durable enough to withstand the other. And then it was gonna sort of tail off as the fight got more into, like sort of more of a wrestling game. But it never got to that point. Kane just got the right shots in the right time and used his power. I mean, he's touted, like right now, he's touted as being more powerful than Karwin, I think, in the striking department. They were saying that his punch was registering like this incredible level of PSI. And yeah, they were saying that he was like stronger, stronger than Karwin, which I can believe. - I think Robert Busser's face would agree. - Yeah, yeah. - Well, I mean, the thing is punching power, part of it comes from your raw strength. But another part of it comes from speed. If you know physics, force equals mass times acceleration. The thing with Karwin is- - It's an educational show. - He's incredibly powerful, but Velasquez is so much quicker. - Oh, very fast. - So much faster than punch. So much, you know, he just gets his hips into it. It just torques his punches. - And you see with Karwin, he's got that incredibly dangerous uppercut, which he fires very short, and he's so strong he can connect. - He can generate a lot of power in a short distance, whereas Kane doesn't need a short distance because he's so quick that he can just make up for that. - Yeah, he torques his arm back and he just throws. And I mean, I think if Karwin threw like Velasquez did, Karwin would probably be the stronger guy. - He'd be murdering people in the octagon. - I don't think that Karwin has the speed and the ability to do that. I think Velasquez is the one guy who has that perfect balance of strength and speed. - He's incredibly powerful, but he's also quick and athletic. And I mean, he just like, they're saying that he's punching at 2,200 PSI. That's well over James Tony, that's, you know, that's getting well, this might even be over him. That's over Mike Tyson. - Well Brock Lesnar's a huge guy who took a beating from Karwin. You know, this is a guy who can take a punch and he just got, he fell apart, his equilibrium was lost, his face was broken open, like Velasquez is the real deal for delivering the worst punches you've ever seen. - I mean, all I wanted to see in this match was the fighter who wins to earn it and Velasquez earned it. So I can't, I have no complaints. - This wasn't one that wanted a controversial decision. - Nope. - This was one where there was a finish and it was a decisive finish. So Mr. Kane Velasquez becomes the first Mexican-American champion of the heavyweight division with maybe the possible exception of Rico Rodriguez who was Mexican. - He's the first one to fight. - The first one advertising is Mexican. - Well Rico was born in the States but Kane was born in the States as well. So it was a good marketing hook for Kane. - It was. - The interest among Mexican-Americans was just off the charts for this. Like they did a very good job of marketing him and you know, Brock Lesnar is the big draw for UFC. He makes the most money for the company. They did a great job of making sure that people are gonna wanna see Kane fight next time. - People are really gonna wanna see that Kane Junior fight. - Absolutely. - And the other thing is, if you look at boxing, the boxing model, boxing has been kept alive for so, so long on basically the back of the Latino community of the States who are huge, huge boxing fans even as so many of the other viewers in the other demographics have moved on to other sports. Particularly prime time football. With that being said, the Mexican fans and the Latino fans in the States, they don't necessarily enjoy the brashness of Floyd money Mayweather. They like the soft-spoken Manny Pacquiao, the humble Oscar de La Jolla when he's actually being humble. - Yeah. - And then Oscar de La Jolla. Velasquez, he was very low-kienist fight. But this is an approach that works really, really well with a demographic that he's pitching at. - You know what, that's the guy you wanted to cheer for. - What I find and also, I mean, Velasquez, it seems like a great guy, but when all comes down to it, everybody loves a winner. And he's a dominant winner and they've marketed him correctly, he's gonna be a huge star. Everyone loves a dominant winner. He was humble about it. He wasn't boisterous as Brock has been prominent doing. He was very reserved. He was very respectful of his opponent both before and after the match. And the fans reacted very, very positively to him. Even Brock fans are giving him due credit. I think that he's gonna hold that belt with a great deal of dignity, which the division could use. - So yeah, I think there's something more to say about it. Velasquez is the man. - So now what does, what does Lesnar do? - Well, Nier made a lot of money. - Well, Lesnar and Nier is a fight that would make a lot of money. Lesnar, Carlin could be a possible fight in the future. - I think Carlin might be, Carlin's pulled out of the Roy Nelson fight, I think. So maybe Nelson's an option. - Lesnar and Nelson would be a massacre, but I would-- - Hey, it would be, oh no, it's totally bad. - But I think the fight that we're actually gonna see before any of those fights, and we might want to cover this one later more, it's gonna be Lesnar versus Mark Callaway. - We'll get to this later. - We'll get to this later, yeah. - So we go forward to Walter Waite wannabe kingping, Jake Shields taking on Martin Kammin. - If I can make one sound effect about this fight, it's blah, I did not like it. - I didn't find it that blah. - I thought it was interesting. - I thought that Jake Shields looked not really all that great. - Yeah, this is because of serious, he's kind of waiting apparently, he didn't really look that great in there. I just, I don't know, I just thought it was an ugly fight. - Well, the thing is, it was, my expectations for the excitement value of this fight were so low that I was actually, I didn't fall asleep, so I was moderately impressed, and Kammin fought well, so-- - Kammin fought well, and also the UFC managed to do a brilliant job of getting me invested in the Shields. - Yeah. - 'Cause I was actually interested for one of the first times ever. - They did the commentary. - These Shields were gonna win and go on, and the commentary was so close to Shields. - They were so hard. - Even when Kammin was winning parts of the fight, they're like, look how great Shields is depending. - They definitely had an, you could tell they definitely had an agenda, put Shields over, make Shields look great, so that he can beat the title contender. - Now, Kammin landed a couple of knees in the Clinch on Shields head. - A couple good knees. - When Shields was going for a waist takedowns, waist locks, and dropped Shields twice in the second round, very, very impressively. And then the third round, you could tell that that point, Shields was gassed, and he was still dazed, and Kammin got a couple strikes in. Shields managed to get on top a couple times, but Kammin landed a few more of those beautiful Clinch knees. I actually scored this fight going towards Kammin. One judge agreed with me, 29, 28, because I had Kammin winning the second and third. - That's what I gave it as well. - And Shields, I clearly won the first, with his very, very incredible wrestling game. However, the other judges disagreed. They had Shields winning the first and third from the second judge. And the third judge had Shields winning all three. I don't see how a fighter who gets dropped twice by head knees and falls on his face on the mat. - Oh yeah, there's no way that the three rounds for Shields is just preposterous. Like the third round, I was kind of, I was like, this is too close to call. You know, they're probably going to give it to Shields just because that's kind of, you know what? People are expecting he had the credibility, he had the dominant position. The second round, there's no way in hell that that round went to Shields. It's just, it's ridiculous. - See, and here's how I judge a fight. If one fighter is lying on his face, squealing and moaning, he's probably not winning. - Yeah. - If the other fighter put him on his face by kneeing him in the head till he fell over, that fighter probably is winning. - Yeah. - So 3027 is ridiculous. This one goes to split decision for Shields. Shields probably did deserve the win. - I agree, I agree that he deserved the win. He did not deserve all three rounds. - You know, like it isn't a Rob race, it's the close tight fight that I scored another way. But with that being said, Shields definitely picked up the first round. You could argue for the third round. And he will definitely move forward from this, but having a not dominant win like this is not what gets you a shot at GSP. - Except it did. - He's getting a shot at GSP regardless. - Dana White in the press conference afterwards says that you have performance, whatever. He still has the title shot. He's still the number one contender. - But with Shields himself has been, I'd love another chance to prove myself. - Yeah, I think he'll-- - If he has a shot at GSP on the table, which he does, he's gonna take it. That is the next fight. - Well, you would almost have to be saying not to, but Kamen certainly did look bad in this fight. Even if Shields goes forward, Kamen has certainly helped his own career in preparation by holding off the very respected Shields. - I think that Kamen's finally recovered from that daily knockout. I think he's finally back to where he was. 'Cause before that, he was gonna fight for the title shot with Mike Swick, right? But then there were injuries and whatever, and then he just fell apart. But now I think Kamen's back to that level where he can really contend. - He's kind of like in that top five of the division again, and could theoretically get a title shot with another good winner too. - He's the guy that if you beat him, you get a title shot, and if he beats you, he might get a title shot. So, Kamen's definitely redeemed himself here. So we go forward together, Walter Waits, Diego Sanchez versus Palatiago. - Great fight. - This one also went to decision. Sanchez picked this one up 30, 26, 29, 28, 29, 28. Again, I don't see the judging here. 30, 26 does not make sense to me when Palatiago clearly won the first round. - That third round, I would, I don't have any problem with that being a 10-8 though. - Yeah, but that would still, that would be still Sanchez winning all three rounds. - Oh, for sure. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Which he didn't. Like I see there being one 10-8 in there, but there's no way that Tiago didn't win that first round. - Yeah. - The Tiago won the first round. Diego sort of woke up. He started to actually go back to his game plan and not be all wild. I mean, there were some wild moments. Like he screamed while he was picking up Tiago, but it was wild, but controlled at the same time. So you definitely tell Greg Jackson's found his way back into Diego Sanchez's head. - So that was the Diego that I like. Like I'm a long time Diego Sanchez fan and his, I actually didn't mind his BJ Penn fight. Just he, I mean, he got beat up, it happened. But I thought he looked very bad and lazy in the halfway fight. And I was just kind of like, I figured, oh man, you know, he's over the hump, it's over for him. And he looked great in this fight. I was glad to see him. - Well, with that being said, Jackson came out and said, Diego Sanchez lost the first round. But during that corner, he said to Diego, what's going on? Are you going to come out and put the pressure on? And Diego said, I'm just warming up. In the second round, Diego did put the pressure on. I thought Diego's, Apollo Tiago still looked good. I had him actually doing quite well. I didn't have any of the rounds being 10-8. - That third round, I think so. Third round was close. - But, you know, Tiago definitely threatened him a lot in the second round, but Diego Sanchez came up with that incredible slam. It was one for the Hyatt Reels. The third round looked like Tiago was gassed and hurt from the second round. And Diego just kind of poured the pressure on, kept going at him, ground and pounding him quite a bit. So this one went further the night, deservedly so. Honestly, Diego Sanchez looks more like a contender than he has in some time. And that includes the fact that he actually was a contender against BJ Penn. - Yeah. - And Apollo Tiago, unfortunately, I think he was overrated because of his string of impressive knock-outs over top-rated guys like Host Check. I think can't men in Diego have deflated him, but he's still a serious, serious contender. I don't have him quite in the top five, but I think he's legitimately in the top half. - He's still got the talent. He's still, he can recover. He can basically do what can't men did. - That's why he'll have to do, because these are just too many losses in a row to keep him up in that top. - Oh yeah, he's not in the top. He needs to get himself back up. - He's not at the top of the top, but I think he's the top in the middle. - Yeah, makes sense. - Dude, I mean, I think that a top guy like Cantman or Diego Sanchez or GSP is gonna beat him, but I don't see anyone below that level beating him. Dude, I mean, and I would love to see a fight between him and Tiago Alba, actually. 'Cause they're both big bruiser, isn't like that. - I think Alba's is a little bit higher on the-- - No, actually, after losing the fish. - Oh, I think I agree with this, actually, because I think Alba's is rated too high now, and I think he should go back down, and if he can beat a guy lower down the car, then you can keep him up there. - Tiago Alba's having issues with his weight cut and with his size and looking very lethargic in the fish fight. - Should we even be talking about it? 'Cause he can't make weight, right? The guy can't make weight, so why is he even in the division? - Yeah, but I think if he can make weight one more time, I wanna see the fight between him and Paul and Tiago. - Yeah, I think it would be a good fight. I just don't think he'll a cut the weight, and I think I agree that he's overrated on the list of Walterweight fighters, but, I don't know, Tiago-- - Well, he's overrated on the list of Walterweight fighters, because he's a middleweight fighter. - Yeah, well, exactly. So, but anyway, I'm more excited with this fight. I would like to see Cammon and Sanchez. That would be fantastic. - Cammon and Sanchez, as I think, is the next logic move. - The winner of that fight, right there, in the contender category. - Cammon beat Tiago. Diego Sanchez is now beat Tiago. I think if he gets a serious win over Cammon, he'll redeem that John Hathaway loss, and we'll be back into contention. The other guy kicking around in the division is Mike Pyle. Pyle picked up that win over John Hathaway. - You know what? That was a very impressive win, but you need more than that to be that win in the game. - I mean, he's still stuck for a while. - Pyle might get a little-- - If Tiago, Elvis, it really does get exiled to the middleweight division. - That would make sense. - Yeah. - Keep in mind that he's also moving up on an upward trajectory. So, his Pyle attack moves in a downward trajectory. They might intersect. - All right, what's next? - He's in my dark horse. - Tito Ortiz versus Matt Hamill. Hamill picked up the unanimous decision victory here, 29, 28, 29, 28, 30, 27. - No surprises there. - No agreements with the judging here. - I will say though, again, I didn't pick Tito to win. I definitely picked Hamill to win, but Tito actually looked better than I've seen him in a long time. He did not look terrible in defeat. - Tito looked the best Tito we've seen in years lying on his back as Matt Hamill dropped Hamill after Elbow on his head. With that being said, Tito being beaten by Elbows from the side control position is a level of MMA irony. - He was not murdered. He was not murdered in that fight. - I agree that he was not murdered in that fight, but I also will say that there was no point in that fight where I thought he was going to win. - No, no, no, no. - So, yes, he looked better than standing there like a lump during the third round of the forest fight. So, it is an improvement, but how big is that improvement ever gonna get? - Yeah, exactly. I think like a lazy useless Tito, and I got a fighting Tito, which is a staff program. - A fighting Tito who got solidly beaten, but not even any shred of a doubt, fully admitted that he got defeated and didn't even come out with his typical list of excuses about, you know, his back was-- - Yeah, however, it's still a step up. - In the post-conference, post-fight conference, he was really, he was asked about his future and if this is gonna be one of his last fights and he was really like defensive. He was saying absolutely not. This is not gonna be one of my last fights. I feel better than ever. I don't have any more injuries. My brain's not leaking out of my ear anymore and et cetera, et cetera. - Well, after the forest fight, I figured, you know what, just cut this guy. After this fight, I'm like, you can still keep him around the bottom of the division. There's no reason not to have Tito in your car now. - Well, Adele is still, if Dana's still considering letting Adele-- - He's not. - Then, well, he's not okay. Well, we'll watch that. - Well, Adele's done. I think that, you know, Adele is the only guy who'd ever come back for his Tito or the other guy that, like, Dana would let him come back for his Tito. - No, Dana said no interest in the fight at all. - Yeah, well, Dana's never had interest in the fight but the fans have enough interest that Dana's been known to bow to them when they demanded hard enough. With that being said, Tito, Matt Hamill is not a top contender in this division. He's a solid journeyman. - Yeah. - He'll beat, again, he's a gatekeeper. He'll beat pretty much anyone below him on the card but he's not gonna beat anyone above him. Being thrashed decisively by Matt Hamill, I'm like, I don't see Tito ever being able to compete at the top of that. - Oh, no, of course not. But I also don't think he deserves a pink slip or not. - I don't think he deserves a pink slip or not. Give him another fight with maybe John Bonestones. - Based on the fact that he could probably still draw, you don't give him a pink slip. But, I mean, with regards to his performance, I mean, who has he lost four fights in a row? - Oh, he has a one since, like, 2006. - Yeah, so, I mean, if he didn't have the name and he didn't have the drawing power, he'd be gone without question but the name is keeping him alive. - But, I mean, with that being said, even with the guy who, you know, is credited with saving MMA, even with Steven Bonner, at four fights, at four losses in a row, Dana said, "Hey man, you better win your next one or stop relying on Uncle Dana." I think it's time to talk to Tito and say, "Hey man, you've lost four in a row. You haven't had a win in two, in four years. It's time for if you can't win and fight in four years, who do you wanna fight next?" - Yeah. - Who do you think you're gonna be John Bonestones? Do you think you're gonna be Shogun? Do you think it'd be Rashad, Rampage, Liodo? Is Leo already murdered the guy? - This is all true. However, the one difference is, nobody pays to see Stefan Bonner. - Exactly. You know what? Tito versus Kristoff or something. Just do it, why not? Who cares? - That could work, you know? Like, there's no reason to watch that fight. I would watch that fight. - Well, but that's the level he's at. It's Tito versus Kristoff and the opening match of the main card on Spike TV. - Totally, not on Spike. It'll be the main card. - It's Tito versus New Stefan Bonner. - Yeah, which is absolutely true. - Which is definitely true, but still at the point of that is, there's still a spot for him. I mean, it's fading. It's fading. - It's fading rapidly. I think Tito's career is done. I think he's got maybe two or three fights left in him. I think they won't be against, like, I don't see him putting together a huge three-fight win streak to go after him. - No arguments there. - Yeah, there may be one with co-turgs for nostalgia factor, 'cause co-turgs still kicking around like heavyweight two. - Co-turgs way higher on the card. - Yeah. - You know, I think co-turgs would just take it, just to abuse them. So then we go forward to the heavyweights. - Brendan Schab versus Gabriel Gonzaga. - I was wrong about this fight. - So happy about this. I'm so glad that Schab, you know, stuck it out and actually did a good job. - He kicked out. - He looked awesome. - Gabriel looked like a kind of a pile of crap on that fight, which is unfortunate 'cause I like the guy, but he was not there to fight. I don't know whether he was not there to fight. I just think Schab looked so awesome. - So sluggish looking. It was, it was not good. - Gonzaga is very, very hard to generate a power shot while walking backwards. Schab capitalized on this by hitting Gonzaga with a lot of jobs and a lot of straights to keep him moving backwards and keep dancing back out of his range and diving in with lunging punches. - This is perfect game plan. - Schab knew exactly how, or shop, knew exactly how to take on Gonzaga. His plan for this was perfect. He really, really took Gonzaga apart. And afterwards, he called out Frank Mir. - Yep. - I think he might get this fight. - If it's possible-- - If a listener doesn't get Mir next, then I've got no issue with that. - If a listener doesn't take on Mir for whatever reason, 'cause that's the fight that they want to do. - That's throw shot in the deep water. - That's why it would be in the deep water, I think. Because, I mean, you called the number one guy in the division, you're probably not gonna get him. The number one guy, the number two guys can get him. You called the number 10 guy in the division. (laughing) Yeah, I mean, like, there's no reason-- - Maybe if you started dating Joe Silva. (laughing) - Yeah. I don't see any, like this, Mir doesn't have anything on his plate. I think that there's-- - Other than except less. - As an listener, I think at this point, no Gary and Mir are a reasonable competition. - Yeah, I'm cool with it. - Yeah, I don't wanna see him with Nelson again. Maybe Strew, for me to use him. - Strew's below us. - Strew's below us. - Strew's below us. - I'd be possibly Madsen, but I think even though-- - Oh god. (laughing) - McSweeney, maybe? (laughing) - McSweeney, who dropped away heavyweight? - Oh, Dave. - He's on the division. Anyways, so we go forward. Prelim Card and Spike TV. Court McGee took on Ryan Jensen. We told that this wouldn't be an entertaining brawl. - McGee, like a-- - The very veteran, Ryan Jensen, came out very strong in the first round. - McGee rallied up and just blew him out in the second and third set up an arm triangle choke and got a great win. McGee is so resilient and so tough. Got so much heart. - Great to watch. - I think he's got to get behind. Good for him. - He's gonna get on Spike TV for a long time, I think, as long as he keeps moving. - Unless he moves up to the pay-per-view card, which will probably happen soon. - He's gotta get a couple more wins, but I think he's gonna do it. Meanwhile, Patrick Cote looked phenomenal against Tom Lawler. I've never seen a guy fight off his back. - This is my review. My review, by was boring, Cote was fired. - Yeah. - Rightfully so, even though he's Canadian. - Tom Lawler just abused him. This is a Russell vs. Stryker 101. Lawler just held him down and punished him for the whole fight. Lawler, Cote looked lost. - Yeah, he looked like the prey. - Yeah, so he's gone. Robert's vs. Daniel Roberts vs. Mike Geimann. This one was an exciting one. It actually made it onto the pay-per-view after the Velasquez Lesnar fight. - Great submission. - And it was a beautiful submission. - Well-deserved submission of the night. He's out of the Diaz camp too, so. - Yeah, so look for Daniel Roberts to make waves in the Walter division. There's a lot of movement in the middle part of that card. So with that beautiful submission of the night, Roberts will be looking to take up a spot there. Sam Stout takes on a victory over Paul Taylor. This was a split decision as always in Sam Stout fights. - I like Stout. - Yeah, but he loves going through split decision. Chris Kamozi takes a win over Dong Yee Yang in this leather split decision. This one was a brutal one for Kamozi. He took a very, very savage cut with a knee. And then John Madsen got a relatively exciting win for being John Madison over Gilbert Eiffel, to get a beautiful running, leaping takedown followed by elbows from the top to get a TKO at one minute 48 seconds in the first round. - And now the news. - Yes, John Madsen just can't talk about him. This actually became a surprisingly big thing coming out of UFC 121. The undertaker from WWE was being interviewed afterwards by Aria Awani and Lesnar after his loss to Velasquez walked past him. They got into a quick little confrontation like war of words looked very staged actually. And then that's it. So everybody's talking. Lesnar versus Undertaker at WrestleMania. It's not going to happen. Dana said, Dana said it's not going to happen, but this was such a big deal. Everybody's talking about it. I don't think it's, I'm going to put it right out there. Neither of you guys think this is a good idea, right? - No. Well, I don't think it's a good idea for the UFC. I think it might be a good idea for Brock Lesnar. And I'll tell you why. Now, when two wrestlers get into a beef behind stage, this probably legitimate beef. If two wrestlers get into a beef in front of an interview camera, they're working an angle. - Yeah, staged. - They're staged. So when Mark Callaway, the undertaker, 'cause I can't call a grown man the undertaker, when Mark Callaway yells, you want a piece of me at Brock Lesnar in front of an interview camera. - Yeah. - So both these guys are planning on going somewhere, even if it's just generating press. - Yeah, for sure. - You know what I mean? And with that being said-- - They should fight over Michelle McCool. - Yeah, well, yes. Mark Callaway's girlfriend, who was present with him at the event, is named Michelle McCool. - And gorgeous. - She's very pretty, but I can't call her Michelle McCool any more than I can call a grown man the undertaker. - No, no, no, I think this is a bad idea. Like, I do think it's a bad idea. It's not very good for the UFC. - It's terrible for the UFC. - But here's, I actually thought of a couple of reasons why this may, this could actually work. - Okay. One, Brock Lesnar would not be any less of a UFC draw with the WWE think. He's already a former WWE wrestler. - That is true. - He's showing into people still paid to see him. That's not gonna change, right? And all these kids who don't watch UFC, but they watch wrestling, you get a whole new audience. - That's true, because he hasn't been in wrestling for a little while, so the new fans-- - Like, like six or six years or something. And I just, I came back months ago from a trip to India, and I saw hundreds of WWE shirts. Undertaker, John Cena shirts everywhere. How many UFC shirts did I see? - Yeah, that's true. - Zero, and all you hear UFC talking about is trying to break into India and shine in all these places. This could be the way to do it. - I mean, I'd rather not make this a wrestling show, but-- - No, but this, no, this is Brock Lesnar's future. I mean, there's money in it. - I don't know. - With that being said, I definitely think that the wrestling company would pay him an immense amount of money for this. So, I mean, in terms of financial gain for Brock Lesnar, it certainly would make sense for him. - Should he, Dana has a say in terms of-- - Oh, he has a complete say. He would have to sign off on it, which I really doubt he'll do. And I understand his reasoning. - In terms of-- - He would have, sorry, go ahead, Dana. - Dana's a huge defender of the dignity of the sport, and I don't think he would ever let one of his top guys go and do this. - Unless his top guy was made to look incredible. Which brings in the whole idea of this streak, but I don't want to make this a wrestling show. - It's an interesting topic. We'll see how it plays out. I doubt it'll happen, but I see what they're thinking. Yeah, I understand too. - It's cool, and also for like another, in sort of Brock Lesnar news, Shane Carwin has a back injury. He's out, so the big fight in January between Carwin and Nelson is off. What are they going to do with that fight? - Well, the thing that I found very interesting about this was Nelson had previously, or Shane Carwin had previously been sniping at Nelson on Twitter for Nelson's lack of physique, or attention to physical conditioning. - When's Carwin a trash talker? - Oh, apparently he doesn't like Nelson. And Schwab also is Carwin's best friend. So apparently, - Oh, there you go. - Carwin has negative feelings on Nelson from his defeat of Schwab. Now, after pulling out the fight with an injured back, Nelson rebutted Carwin's agreement with his statement. He said, "I hear that Carwin pulled out the fight "because he couldn't pass the steroid trust "or he was afraid of me or something." So, Nelson, you were out of this fight. You got a hall pass, man. - Yeah. - You got out of a fight with Carwin. - Yeah. - And you just reel it back in, man. You just reel it back. - That would be the biggest fight in this period. - Once Carwin gets healthy, if this fight with him and Nelson goes down, he will murder Roy Nelson. - Well, you would expect that, but I mean, again, if you called the number one guy in the division, you're not gonna get him. If you called the number three guy in the division, you might get him. - Yeah, that's true. - I think if Nelson's saying, "Hey, man, "I've got a shot against this guy. "I call him out, I get him, if I beat him, "maybe that puts me at the title-contention shot." And that's a realistic thing. If you blew out Carwin, that would get you Velasquez or DeSanto. - He'd be close over the other. - So, I mean, Nelson, take your shot. - Yeah, maybe he just won. Maybe this, he realized this is a shot. - Go for it. - This is a shot, and in the meantime, who are they gonna put him with, you know, like Russo? - No. - No, he's already lost DeSanto's. He's already beaten Struv, Schwab. - But this is-- - It's Congo, Mir, or Nogera. It's the only people left in that same range as him. - But this opens up stuff. I mean, you can do, you know, Nelson will fight someone else, then maybe they'll do Lesnar Carwin again. The whole heavyweight division is in complete flux now. Anything can happen. - Now that the title's changed hands, and everyone's jockeying for position, it's a pretty good time for the heavyweight division. - So everyone in the heavyweight division is starting to make, is starting to call someone else. Nelson is hung his hat on Carwin. He thinks if he beats Carwin, he's gonna get the title shot. Carwin obviously is, you know, hasn't said anything because he's pulled out of this injury. No luck hasn't said anything. Obviously Velasquez has DeSantis next, so those guys are focused on each other. But Mir, and Nogera, and Crocop, if these guys are ever gonna make a move, now's the time. And you gotta figure that Mir, particularly, is gonna make his shot now. - You know where exciting waves aren't happening? On Strike Force Challengers, which was last Friday, and nobody watched it because everyone was so excited about UFC. But in case anybody was curious, Bobby Volker be Roger Boling, and I don't think the rating was all that hot. It's in sort of related news. We're doing a show this weekend on our iTunes feed that is reviewing the EA Sports MMA game, which is essentially the Strike Force video game. - Yeah. - So yeah, keep an eye on the Hammer MMA's iTunes feed if you wanna hear what we think of the game. - Or check us out on thehammermma.com. Well, I think that's what all the time we've got this week, guys. Thanks for tuning in. - Have a good week.
