(upbeat rock music) - Hello, welcome to the hammer. Hello and welcome to the hammer, so we're getting completely fed out there. I'm your host Dave, joined as always by my good friend. - Greg, how's it going guys? - And of course, Steve. - So welcome to the show guys, we've got an interesting one for you for our end of July special. First of all, we've got the results of the impact FC card from Australia. This is a Sydney card, and there was a lot of formerly well-known UFC vets fighting on this one, so we're gonna go over it quickly. However, we're not gonna spend a lot of time on it because frankly, they're not very interesting anymore. So we had Geronimo de Los Santos versus Josh Barnett. This one was actually happened a week before the pay-per-view in Brisbane, but they taped it and played it for the pay-per-view. - So that impact won. So the show that actually aired on pay-per-view was impact too, so they just decided to air a couple of the better fights, they'd better in quotations. - No. (laughing) Well, maybe they were from a week prior. - Barnett scores a KO by punches, it two minutes and 35 seconds in the first round. No surprise there, Barnett for heavyweight was considered one of the best at one point. Very, very well-rounded wrestler, very, very good boxer as well. Didn't quite make it in the EOC, but it was a very, very high-level competitor. - But this is the sort of venue for him now? - Yeah, for sure. - Yeah, well, I mean, 'cause he has steroid allegations as well, unfortunately, when he was in the EOC. So that does not help your career, but-- - Yeah, just ask Carla Parisian. - You're supposed to be on this card too. (laughing) - Carla Parisian's troubles continue. So Carla Parisian was supposed to be on this card, but was not there, so no surprise. - He didn't have his mouth guard. - Yeah. And then we go forward to former UFC middleweight champion, Marillo Bustamante, versus Jesse Taylor. Jesse Taylor defeated Bustamante by Verbal Tap in the second round. I believe this would fly a ground-and-pound strike. - Chuck Liddell would not have been impressed. - Yeah, yeah. - The job's to strikes. - Then we go to Marillo Rua versus Jeremy May. For those of you who are wondering, Marillo and Ninja Rua is Shogen Berg Rua's older brother. He competes in the middleweight division, and in Rua tradition, he scores a first round, guillotine choke victory at four minutes and 12 seconds defeating Jeremy May. - This is actually a pretty fun fight. Probably, I guess probably the fight of the show. It was pretty action-packed. And then it was really weird though. Ninja, just that they're face-to-face, Ninja jumps up and just kind of jumping, just giving him a little too much credit. But he just kind of goes up, grabs a guy at guillotine. It falls backwards, it takes him down. - Sort of like a bendo guillotine? - Yeah. - You know, like that, except just not as exciting. - Yeah. - And then there was no resistance. And it was done, like, I want to say it was a big win, but I mean, I think I could have beat that guy with the guillotine choke. Like, like. (laughing) - Well, I mean, Rua is a level of competitor where he should be able to get easy wins over guys like Jeremy May. He hasn't quite made into UFC, but you know, with his family name, I'm gonna figure in if he wants it, he probably can get in. - Well, yeah, especially because his, I mean, his brother's a champ. - Yeah, based on the last name, he should have at least a shot. - Yeah. And he's a, he's a solid fighter. He did well for himself in pride as well. Not as well as his younger brother, but still not bad. So we go forward to another former WEC champion, middleweight champion this time. Paulo Filleio taking on UFC contender Dennis Kang. - This was a serious ground fight. Like they did a little bit of a stand up, but it was a lot of working on the ground, but not really the very exciting version of working on the court. - Yeah. - And it was like, I mean, there was the occasional good transition or good submission attempt, but a lot of it was just kind of-- - Landprey? - Landprey, or just trying to get position and just not nobody really moving too much. I was hoping for some stand ups after everyone's a while. - Well, the thing with two Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu guys is that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or classic folk wrestling, teaches you not to waste your energy and to wait for opportunities and develop them opportunities. This was a fight between two Jiu-Jitsu masters. This was a Jiu-Jitsu match. It wasn't a mixed martial arts fight. They took the fight to the ground, they grappled for position. And if this fight went on without a time limit and without rounds and it went on to one guy who got exhausted and finally got tapped for a natural fight of half hour or hour, it might have been a very exciting Jiu-Jitsu match. But for an MMA fight, it did not come together and it was not particularly good exciting because unfortunately in MMA, because of the time limits, you can't grind the guy out forever if neither of you is expending energy. You gotta make the other guy work or you gotta take some risks yourself and damage him. - Yeah, and I really don't think it was the type of audience for that fight anyway. - No, not an Aussie audience, no way. - You had a, well, look like a very small crowd, but also a very silent crowd, they're very, very quiet and not really like the Japanese wrestling sumo, you know, like very respectful. - It was kind of fascinating about the type of board. And you had, even the officials, the refs, were clapping their hands and yelling and ringing out and just were saying, come on guys, get into it. Get into it. - Aussie audiences want to see pounding beating. - Like, that's what Aussie audience wants, honestly. - But when you have anyone with a, when you have everyone with a mic begging the crowd to make some noise, like, I don't know. - Yeah. - The, I thought the reduction in the show is okay, but the crowd left a lot to it. - Yeah, I don't think the Sydney audience wanted to see a technical battle between two Jiu-Jitsu matches. - Well, the real-- - I mean, if you had this fight on the corner of the street in Kratiba, I still don't think the crowd would have been listening to it, but at least they don't have a crowd. - And you know what though? I mean, UFC, like the real deal was there once ago, but not all that long ago, I mean, you know. - And they took their starters. - Like, Australia's not starred for live MMA anymore. - Yeah, exactly. - Well, in any case, this one went to the decision and it ended in a draw, probably unsurprisingly, 29, 28, 27, 30, and 29, 29, so split draw. - It was just all over the board, yeah. (laughing) - And I mean, it's hard to judge. - Bingo. - Yeah, it's hard to judge with a technical Jiu-Jitsu match, as this one was, but, you know, it's probably the right call. I mean, the guy really got the advantage of the other. - Yeah. - So let me go forward to UFC alumni Paul Daly versus Daniel Ocasio. - Paul Daly. - Paul Daly. - Paul Daly is best known for punching Josh Kaashek after the belt and therefore punching the sport of MMA in the eye after the belt. - Yeah, punching their Toronto chances. - Right in the groin. - And he was banished to Australia. - And he was banished to Australia. - He was like most convicts. - Where he, where British convicts always go. (laughing) - And he took say takes on Daniel Ocasio. The first two rounds were a little bit one-sided for Daly. - Yeah, he looked pretty good on his feet. He looked, Daly looked fine. He looked, I heard that the first two were a split. - Yeah, it wasn't, it was fairly tight, I guess, but Daly looked terrible in the ground. Like he looked lost. He tried to, there's no surprise there. - He tried to put some arm bars and stuff on, and it was like, first day of Jiu-Jitsu school. That's where he looked like. - It's like, buddy, you have one punch. - Yeah, it's your, that's what you have. - But when the fight was standing, I mean, his striking looked good. He looked, he looked like a bit of it. - He looked like the trisper, more like a striker. - Yeah, which he ends, he ended that fight. Is he, he has a bullet on the ground, and he threw a few elbows. But he started bleeding, and that just verbally tapped. He was like, he gave up. It was like the sight of his own one. - I'm bleeding, I quit. Yeah, it was kinda sad, the crowd didn't like that. Not that bad, no. - So, Daly Ocasio, you know, does not like being able in the head. So three minutes, or one minute into the third round, he verbally submits two strikes. - Gotta give a lot of credit to Matt Hamill for taking those bones all those, and not winning. - Yeah, exactly. - And then we go forward to the heavyweight belt, the main event of the evening. - This was sad to watch. - UFC alumni and legendary fighter, Ken Shamrock takes on former UFC champion, Pedro-- - No contender. - Former UFC concentor, Pedro Rizzo. Pedro Rizzo is a little bit younger than Shamrock, and came up with a lot of low kicks and punches. - It was all, like, so many low kicks. - Yeah. - So he's good low kicks. - Yeah, very good low kicks. It really caused a-- - Yeah, very, very crisp. Eight or nine of 'em, Shamrock toppled, and just-- - He eventually went down on Wendy and just-- - Couldn't get up. - Just, he gave up. - Yeah, it was kinda difficult to watch. - So this one's actually ruled a TKO by low kick. Shamrock gives up the match at three minutes and 33 seconds into the first round. In the post-fight, caught talking, Pedro Rizzo was obviously very excited to win over as such a legend. It's still 45 years young. - Like, Ken Shamrock mentioned that he is out of money. - Yeah, he didn't say in so many words, but it's true. And he said that he will just keep fighting. He'll keep fighting for money. He'll keep taking the payday, and, I mean, guy needs money, he's gonna keep fighting, but he's never gonna win a guy like-- - Yeah, he's basically the lifelike dummies from Deadliest Warrior, like that's what he is now. But, he's better paid than those dummies, and that's what he-- (laughing) - So, not a particularly impressive result from Ken Shamrock. - And not a particularly impressive show, overall. - Mm-hmm. - Like, the fact that they had to fill the undercard was show was to happen a week prior. Like, they showed the car was new to fight as well. - I mean, it's not like we're talking about, you know, a well-established organization here. I mean, it's, it's their second show. - It's like, yeah, and the first-- - And there's some reasonably good names. - In the first month of existence. - Yeah, so, I mean, we gotta cut 'em a little bit in the slack, I mean, they're just getting off the ground. So, I mean, it's not like we're talking about UFC or Strike Force. Strike Force deserves ridicule, but I don't think these guys do. - This was the right time for the show to come on, because there's about a three or four week gap between the shows. - Mm-hmm. - As anyone's listened to our show, we've been talking about pretty much every promotion, but UFC lately. - Yeah. - There's been a real drug of shows up into, until, until like, a seventh when it comes out. This is the right time for the first show. - Oh, yeah. - Oh, like, it's first on versus show. But this is the right time to run a show like this. I don't know how successful it would be. - Names are well known enough that you're gonna get your, you're gonna get your name up or your promotion's name up on support center. And, you know, what can you ask for? - Maybe, yeah. I think that might be stretching it. - So, we go forward to the news, and Steve, where we have the news is correct. - All right, so this has been a long time coming. Jake Shields finally signed with UFC this week. He wanted to go into the middleweight division, but it's been decided that he's gonna go down to 170 because it's more natural weight. His first opponent, Martin Kim. - I guess it makes sense. I mean, Kamen didn't have a dance partner yet. - No, he doesn't have a dance partner yet. - He's coming off a win, yeah, yeah. - Seems good, and you know what, the guy that if Shields beats him, he's got enough credibility. You can move him up into either a title match or a title limiter. - Yeah. - And if he loses to him, then it's still like, okay, Kamen's still pretty good and wins most of his fights. I think it's the right opponent. - That would be really, really shocked if Kamen beat Shields. - Well, Kamen's a tough guy to beat. I mean, he proved that against Paul Tiago. - Yeah, that's true. - So, I mean, he definitely has enough of a defensive wrestling game that Shields won't be able to handle him easy. With that being said, I still think Shields will handle him. - Yeah. - And this fight's gonna happen in October at the Brock vs. K. Velasquez show. - Now, my ultimate dream for this signing is that if Shields defeats Kamen and John Fitch defeats Tiago Alva's, we could see the title limiter between John Fitch. - Oh, I'm gonna go by sleeping capital for myself. - You wouldn't be sleeping capital. - You wouldn't be sleeping capital. - They should be sleeping capital. - No, like, you won't need some. - No, no, the sleeping pedals should be that match distilled in the pill form. - That's how you get your classic confrontation of ground skills. - Both fantastic fighters, but wow. That'd be a huge mess there. - A lot of exciting style match up there. And then there's a fight that-- - No, didn't wait to be the first person to complain about the game. - Oh, I can't say it's, you know, white would definitely. He'd actually probably not put the match on for that. Was it a reason? - Probably. - But that's actually one of the most logical outcomes of this, so. - But that's assuming that Tiago Alva's is a win too. - Yeah, well, I mean, I don't like to bet against John Fitch because dude wins, you know. - I don't even see an Alva's shields by being that exciting, actually. - So going forward. - And they had the ESPN Heather Espie Awards this past week and GSP was nominated for Best Fighter and Lost. And Frankie Edgar was nominated for the best upset. I'm gonna be BJ Pan and he lost as well. - Do you know who GSP lost to? His Best Fighter? - I'm here. - To Floyd Mayweather, which is-- - Okay, all right. - It's American. - It makes sense. - It makes sense. - This American Floyd Mayweather was very, very well known and boxing is still a huge dominant sport. - Actually, because I have Bill Maher on my Twitter. - Yeah. - And he was saying that he doesn't really understand the SBS, why they would have an award for Best Football Team. - You have a Super Bowl. (laughing) - It's true. - The answer's already there. You don't need five nominees, right? - Yeah. - CFL versus NFL, okay. - And who was the one for Best Upset? - Oh, for Best Upset? Northern Iowa's NCAA basketball tournament upset? I don't know what that is. - Yeah, Northern Iowa's NCAA basketball tournament upset? I don't know what that is. - Oh yeah, it was. - NCAA. - NCAA. - NCAA. - NCAA. - I don't know what the scenario is. - Sorry, our friend Steve is not a very big sports fan, so. - He could argue that the NCAA tournament is probably the biggest sports event in the States, like period. I mean, people take it so seriously, so that doesn't surprise me at all. - And then we've got Franklin, he won the surgery on his arm after having a broken in the chocolate L fight. So he should be back by the end of the year. I'm not sure he'd be putting him up against, but. - Well, there's, I mean, there's guys in the division. Bros is coming off a win. - Yeah, they do what's fun to do with them. The force is always kicking around. - The force is there. - He'll be healed soon, I'm sure. - Oh, then this is kind of cryptic. Quentin Jackson, he's just said that he's about to sign for a fight on November 20th. He didn't say his opponent. He always said it's a guy who's named. He doesn't know how to spell. (laughing) I want to make the easy joke that it could be anyone in the division. (laughing) - Well, I mean, that's kind of Rampage's character. He always pretends to be a leader. - Are you A, is that the heart? (laughing) - It's probably not Shogun. - Well, he's fought Shogun before, so he definitely is a fighter. - He's a father. (laughing) - Terrific. (laughing) But I think Joe was. (laughing) - I really hope Rampage isn't listed in the show. - Moving right along. - And so what do you think, Machita? It may happen? - Well, no. - It should have turned out Machita. I mean, you know, honestly. - That sounded like great clue. - To me, to be honest, like, if I was Rampage, I wouldn't want the Machita fight. Two, like an aggressive striker versus a counter striker is just madness. It's not a good style matchup for him. He was right to not want that fight. - Yeah, but fighting top ranked guys, if you want to be champion someday is like a champion. - Yeah, of course. - But I mean, there's lots of top ranked guys in that division. That's the joy of that division. - But I mean, there aren't a lot of top ranked guys ranked higher than Machita. - Yeah, true. - Machita still, that's pretty much third in that division. - Yeah, but you can legitimately ask for the winner of Coachura Tony. - Which is not going to put you ahead of Machita and get you any closer to a title. - Yeah, but they're not going to give Machita the next fight with Ruoy, he's our lost. - Yeah, but if you beat Machita and Ruoy beats Evans, then you're probably on deck to face Ruoy. - True, but if you beat Coachura and Tony. - You're not on deck to face Ruoy. - If you beat James Tony, you're getting props from Dana. That's all you're getting. - It's all you're getting. - And a great countdown special. - Tony's been great building up this coach here. - Yeah, I was talking about that in the weeks coming up. There are some fights official for UFC 120 in London. Bisping versus Akiyama looks like the main events. - That makes perfect sense. - Makes sense, yeah. - And then Dan Hardy versus Carlos Conda, which you mentioned that I want to see. - That's going to be a good fight. - Oh, what else do we have here? Oh, yeah, this is kind of strange. Herdine and John McCarthy are, they're talking with the California State Athletic Commission about changing MMA scoring and adding half points. - Okay. - 'Cause you know what? And I agree, they don't use the range of numbers they have already, like you don't see very many eights. But do you think judges be more likely to give an 8.5? - No, to be honest, I think the half points I have to do is actually kind of a foolish one. Boxing flirted with this. The thing of it is, is people think in round numbers anyways, and I don't want to see fights scored like, oh, this was a 10, nine versus a 9.5 and-- - Yeah, that's a layer of complication that you can solve by just using a wider range of the 10 numbers you have. - Yeah, you have three numbers. You can give it a 10, nine, you can give it a 10, nine, eight, seven, and you can score to draw off the fights very, very even. The problem with the judging isn't that they don't have the ability to do half points. The problem is they're not using the numbers they have. - Yeah, it's all a scale, I mean-- - You know, the problem is they need to take Cecil peoples out into the beating field. (laughing) That's what a low kick feels like, and this is why you score it as a point. (laughing) You know, like, ridiculous. - And so Bobby Lashley, he's got to do a opponent. He's gonna be fighting on August 21st against Chad Griggs, who's a former IFL fighter, and he's a firefighter with an 8-1 record, mostly knockouts. He could be good. Lashley needs to get back into fighting if he's gonna, if he doesn't want to lose the momentum, he's not-- - Yeah, well, yeah, he's gonna find a while. - He doesn't build up that momentum, am I mean? - No, seriously? - Come off as win over-- - The West Sims momentum. - The West Sims momentum. - No, I'm not saying from guys he's beat, I'm saying just high name value and hype. - Yeah, sure. - I mean, with this whole fate or situation, I mean, he's on a short list of guys to fight fate or because it's messy. - The more he waits, the further he gets from his fame and base in the wrestling community, particularly because he was not, by any matter of means, the most marketed of the professional wrestlers. - No, I mean, you can carry him to UFC fighters. - So, you're not like, pressing level-- - Or a ball or a ball or a ball or a ball or a ball or a ball. - Or a ball or a ball or a ball or a ball or a ball or a ball. - Yeah, Lashley was never like big of a step. - Now, I think he's actually the more physically able of him and Batista. - Oh, I think he sleeps and bows younger, less beat up, or like 10 years younger. - Physically stronger, in my opinion. - He's training a lot. - Very, very fast, much more technically skilled than that, he comes from a wrestling background. - Not a body building background, yeah. - So, I mean, you know, if he's gonna make his push, this is one to do it, particularly because everyone in that division is scrambling right now. If Lashley gets a win, he can ask for Bigfoot. He could probably ask for verdume. - Yeah. - 'Cause verdume, you know, no one knows what they're gonna do with verdume now. - Yeah, in terms of, he's been talking about maybe needing surgery, so you might be able for a little while. But that strike force heavyweight division just became such a mask. - Yeah, but I mean, like, there's legitimately four guys he's able to ask for. He can ask for the championship saw. - Maybe strike force should bring in some headliners from Gusson. It looks like they've got a show coming up October 9th with that Marius Skye, the- - Marius Orumski, the strongest man? - The strongest man. - The strongest man, versus Kimbo. - But really, Kimbo's gonna dust him. - And Butterbean's coming at the winner. - Nice. - What a traitor act. (laughs) - Well, Kimbo's- - I like Butterbean, though. - Kimbo's a professional fighter. - His K over Johnny Knoxville is one of my favorite things of all time. - So moving right along. - All right, that's about it for news. As we said, there aren't really a lot of shows going on over the past, like, last week or the speed coming up. So we opened up kind of our mail bank for the first time, and we found out a bunch of questions. So from, from Annary, first question for us is, who do you think will be the next UFC heavyweight champion? This is assuming Lesnar ever loses the battle. - Well, I think Lesnar's gonna hold it for a while. - You don't think Velasquez is the guy? - I don't think so. - I'll tell you why. Velasquez is a much, much time more technical striker than Karwin is, but he doesn't have the same knockout power. He doesn't have the record of knockouts. I don't think he's got the power to decimate Brock, and he's so much lighter that I think that Brock could easily tough out the storm and weather it and win, as he's shown he can do against Karwin. And I mean, there's not a lot of guys in that division that are capable of handling a 300-pound wrestler. He's incredibly physically strong and very, very fast for his size. - You know what? I would say junior, if he wasn't so small, that's the only problem with junior is that he's just-- - Two years, two years, the best striker, but he's 235 pounds. - Yeah. - You know, like he definitely doesn't-- - He can knock out, you know, Lester. Actually, you know, maybe that's what I'm thinking maybe. The best chance possibly the next UFC heavier champion, this may be a year or two down the line. It could be Karwin rebuilding himself with a couple of wins and coming back with a better game plan. - Keep in mind though, Karwin is 35. - Yeah, I think Karwin, two years from now, he'll still be strong dude. - Yeah, I think Karwin has got a reasonable shot. I think if he and Lesnar fought 10 times, it would go six-four, you know what I mean? I think Velasquez has a shot, but I do think that Lesnar can handle him. And I think that De Santos and Nogara have two of the best shots provided that they come in with an excellent, excellent game plan. De Santos's game plan has to be, I am going to stay off the ground, I'm not going to give up the takedown, I'm going to out point him the way that Frank Edgar did be Japan, which is a very, very dangerous strategy to take against a wrestler for five rounds. And then Nogara is incredible off his back. So if he gets back healthy to the level that he was, even if he gets taken down, he might be able to fight off his back and pull off a crazy submission as he's done before. - I think a healthy Nogara is a pipe dream. I don't think that's what I'm going to happen. - I don't think at this point he's too physically abused. I mean, two years ago, he was my guy. He was the guy I thought I was going to be able to beat Brock. But right now I'm thinking, you know, like in my plot on that was basically, he's tough for the mirror and he's got just a good jiu-jitsu. At this point, I think he's gone. - I would actually, I'm actually going to say junior. I think, I'm a big junior fan. I think he might have it. - But this doesn't necessarily mean that the junior wins his title shot if he gets it next. I mean, this will be the next person to hold the UFC bell after Brock. I say it in maybe years on the line. I say it the next guy after Brock, Carlin. - Hey, you guys. - Carlin's a good bet. I'm honestly thinking that junior is probably my pick just because I don't think that, as Greg pointed out, Carlin at this point is 35 years old. I don't think he's got a time left. You know, I think that at this point, if he didn't do it now, given the fact that you've got to figure that Velasquez is on deck, Junior is on deck, Roy Nelson's on deck, and they still want to do the mirror fight at some point. They're not going to get to Carlin for at least three years, in my opinion. - I'm just fighting the three times a year to two, three times a year. - Yeah. - If Lesnar stays healthy. - If he's smart and stays healthy, there's not long breaks between fights. We'll see, but I mean, that's ambitious. - Yeah, by say, Carlin gets two more wins. He stacks on deck. - Can we see that? - Can we see that? - And what else do we have here? Oh, from JD, he wants to know what force is up to. Is he coming back soon? And who is he going to face? - I believe force is up with Richard. But a new book is coming out, and he's on a book tour for August, I believe. So he's probably just going to promote that for a little while, then get back to training. - And everyone should see the cover of this book. It is hilarious. It's him in a loincloth. - It's him in a loincloth, and it's about, I can't remember the title, but it's about-- - It's about to survive the coming apocalypse. - Yeah, apocalypse, yeah. - Yeah, one of his real man guides. - Yeah, it looks pretty funny. I read his last book. It was entertaining. - It's basically a guide of various apocalypse scenarios and how Forrest Griffin would think you should survive them. So, I've always wanted to know how Forrest Griffin thinks I could beat back the zombie plague. So, I mean, this is my opportunity. - And-- - Let's hear it in any case. I would say Forrest Griffin probably back December. This is what my guess is. - He does the book tour. It's healthy, trained for if I ended the year, I think. - Yeah. - And if Little Nogue is still on that same level, then I'd be fighting him, I guess, and-- - In December, January would be my guess, and probably with Little Nogue. - And how about this from listener Tom Cruise? (laughing) Probably an alias. - Oh, you think? - Yeah. - What are we gonna see? - Tom Cruise. - C-R-E-W-S. - He spoke correctly. - Yeah, he says, this is a question. The ultimate fighter sucks. It's no longer a novelty, and it hasn't showcased a legit field of talent in years. How do you remake that show? First of all, you bring George St. Pierre into it. (laughing) - Okay, and again, what do you guys, I guess the first part of that question, has legit talent come out of that in recent years? - I do think that-- - We'll see what court McGee's gonna do. - Well-- - What about Bader? - Bader, yeah. - Bader has had an opportunity to prove himself yet. - He's gonna do it. - I mean, he definitely has the ability to do it. - Come with favor views. - Amir Sedala, unfortunately, at this point, looks to be a bit of a dog. However, Rashad Evans came out of that show, and he's done pretty well for himself. He's a former-- - No, I think we're talking recently. - No, we're talking recently. But like, I mean, Nelson, we'll see what happens against Junior, I think Junior's gonna crush him. - No, this thing here-- - And shawd, don't forget shawd. - There are guys, I think so. I don't even particularly think it's a talent, but how do you remake the show? I agree this past season was fairly dull. I didn't particularly like the coaches, I didn't really like the guys, the wild car thing didn't work for me. - Too many injuries. - Yes. And how do you change the show? I don't know, it's a tournament, it's a tournament format, there's only so much leeway you can take with that. - Yeah, I think unfortunately, you have to stick with the format it's got, and you just gotta go with, we're gonna do the fights, once a week, you know, one every show, and we have to make sure that we've got the right coaches. Now keep in mind that all the ultimate goal of the ultimate fighter is not just to get another two contenders for the division, - Yeah, it's the fight advantage. - It's the coach fight. - Yeah. - And I mean, I think that, you know, with the last couple of seasons, they haven't had very interesting coach fights, because a lot of the big contenders-- - They haven't had coach fights. - They might, particularly speak a lot of great English, or that the coaches are-- - Oh, people are really interested. - Yeah, but we're only two seasons removed from a lot from Rampage or Shot. - Well, the thing is, I mean, the reason why, I mean, the reason why the heavyweight season, halfway through kind of fell apart was because people knew that there wasn't gonna be a Rampage or Shot coach fight until, you know, years down, or a year down the road or whatever. And then, Tito Ortiz pulling out, that obviously didn't help the credibility of-- - This last season-- - This last season. - Really hurt the ultimate fighter role. - But you know what was interesting was, when I saw the first episode of this last season, I was like, oh man, these fights are awesome. This is gonna be a great season. - How does the show-- - They showed a highlight package. - They showed a highlight package of what, like, 16 fights or something, or have they had a ridiculous-- - Well, there were what, yeah, like, but they showed full fights. Like, I mean, they were showing a guy, like-- - Oh, they showed a couple of-- - Yeager looked like a world beater, but that's 'cause he was facing a complete dud. - Well, but I mean, like, everyone had, if you show 16 fights, you're gonna show 16 great kicks, but then, like, you know, like, what happens in the other four and a half minutes of the fight? Maybe take it back to two separate divisions. Maybe do that. - One of two separate divisions, I think they're not-- - Less fights for everybody. - But I don't mind the one weight division. I think the big thing is just, you have to have interesting coaches. And I mean, you know, if they had Lesnar versus Karwin, that would have been a much more interesting season, obviously, than Tito versus Chuck, particularly with Tito having all kinds of injuries. By the way, he's saying that right now he's back, and he wants to fight for a square friend. - Oh, I bet he's 100%. - He's always been 100%. (laughing) - So, yeah, so-- - I honestly don't think there's too much wrong with the show. I mean, you just have to keep in mind that-- - You have good seasons and you have bad seasons. - You have good seasons, you have bad seasons. They have picked up a couple solid contenders every season. - Like, they usually won or two. - Like, they can't set it, like, you know, like, on a boat, you know? - They're pretty fortunate. Like, with what they can do. - I just want to point out that I have been watching reruns of the first Ultimate Fighter on Sportsnet, and wow, is it ever awesome. So, they've got a lot to live up to for that one. - And, yeah, that's it. We're going to keep doing the mail bank stuff, so if anybody wants to, I think we're going to do it one more time next week, but-- - Well, I mean, if we get a question-- - If we get questions, we'll answer them, but we might have to go through them a little bit quicker if we have things to preview. - So, the hammer.com, that's the H-A-M-M-A-R.com, and drop us some questions on the forum. - And we do have a long-term goal of changing that. So, basically, we're going to go forward to the Strike Force Challengers card coming up this Saturday, and we're going to go through it relatively quickly. So, first of all, we're going to start with the light weights. We have Caro's Fodder taking on-- always went on Thomas DiGania. I honestly don't know either of these fighters who want to have the comment on it. - Or pronounce their names correctly, and I don't know either, so let's move on. I'm not even going to try. - Then we have Corey Devala versus Bobby Volker. Volker's actually fairly serious welterweight contender. I would imagine he'll be able to pick up the win here easily. Then we have Light Heavyweights, Abongo Humphrey versus Mike Kyle. Again, I don't know either of these fighters who want to make a particularly deep call on this one. I'm going to go for Abongo just because he's got such a cool name. - (laughing) - If you need Abongo, you have to be able to fight. And then we have the two main events. We're going to start with the Heavyweights, which is the main main event. Shane Dola Rosario versus Lohale Mayo. - Mayo was, there was a Strike Force Challenger show about three or four months ago, which was the most boring, heavy weight fight I've ever seen in my life. Yeah, he was half of that, so I hope he loses. - Yeah. - We're not expecting a Barnburr on this one. - Yeah, we're not expecting a Barnburr. And then we go forward to the co-main event. Women's Bantamweight Championship about the champion Sarah Kaufman versus Roxanne Maudia Ferry. Sarah Kaufman is a brilliant, brilliant women's boxer competing at 135. Roxanne Maudia Ferry does have a definite chin. - Yeah. - I've seen her take some really, really hard shots so she can definitely hang with Kaufman. She's got a pretty good takedown game as well, so that's like working in her advantage. I do think Kaufman's got the tools to handle her, but Roxanne's no joke. She's definitely legit, can I have time to take it? - I think it'll be a tough fight, but yeah, Kaufman's going to take it. - Yeah. - This is about the only fight I'm looking forward to on this show. I really like Strike Forces women's division, but even though the talent's hit her miss, but I'm glad they're doing it and I want to support it. - What annoys me though, is I think Strike Force needs to take it more seriously. This is a championship boat. This should be the main event, not the combing event. - Yeah, I totally agree. - But I'm certainly not watching that show for the heavyweight boat. - Fair enough. So that being said, I think that's what all the Wii News we have for this week, guys. Hope for the tournament we'll see you next week. - Have a good week, guys.
