Amazingly there is not a single UFC, Strikeforce or WEC show to talk about this week.  That's never happened before.   So we're left with a mixed bag of topics, including the Japanese promotion Dream, MMA in Australia, Brock Lesnar, Frank Mir, Two Nogueria's, Strikeforce's Fedor problems, and Korean Zombies.

(upbeat music) - Hello and welcome to The Hammer. I am your host, Dave. Join us always by. - Greg, how's it going guys? - And of course my good friend. - Steve. - So you're listening to us live on 93.3 CFMU. You can also see us on TV. Cogeco TV, channel 288. - Only in Canada. - Only in Canada. And you can also find us on the interwebs. We are at thehammer.com and you can also. - That's not H-A-M-M-A-R.com. - And we are changing that to the hammer at some point in the future. And then you can also find us on iTunes and on the-- - Facebook. - So we're gonna start with a quick review of the July 18th show for those of you who have no idea what that is. - Well July 18th hasn't happened yet so it's technically a preview. - Not technically a preview. Actually no, we're gonna start with a review, kind of thing of it. Sorry, this is the dream show from last week. - From Japan, last product. - No, I know that most of you probably are not hugely watching the Japanese in promotions but dream is a good one. - It plays out HD net in the States but I mean barely anybody watches it. - And they're cross-promoted with strike force too. So you see a lot of the guys from dream come over to strike force and fight each other, so. - So yes, and that's what makes this one important because a lot of these guys are strike force guys as well. So we're gonna start with light weights. We have gaseous calvalcante versus casanoic econy. Calvalcante picks up a slow decision at the end of round two. We had the grand prix opening bouts for the light heavy weights for the title. So we started with a bout between Gighard Musasi and Jacob Bryan. Now, Jacob Bryan came in a little bit heavy for this one, he came in at 212. - No, no, no, no. They didn't catch me at the 212. He showed up in Japan at like 230, wow. - So he weighed quite a bit more than Musasi. - He got a strap on those garbage bags. - And unfortunately, because of that, he started with a yellow card and a 10 point deduction under the dream scoring system. - 10%. - 10%, yeah. And then unfortunately, with that being said, it did not help him to weigh more than Musasi. Musasi choked him out in the first round at 31 seconds. - There's a surprise. - Killer teen show. So Musasi looks to be getting back on form. That is important. We've always said that he's one of the best light heavy weights in the world. He didn't look that great against Kim O'Laul in the match rate loss. He's the light heavy weight championship and strike force. - Well, that is just 'cause he incorporated such a horrible strategy. - But he will be back, I think, and I think he's learned from that experience. Comment on that? Nope. So then the other light heavy weight grand prix opening bout was a Melvin Mannhoff, the very, very feared striker who looked all right against Robbie Lawler before all end up. Robbie Lawler came back and knocked him out versus Tetsuyo Mitsuyuni. Mitsuyuni picked up a win over Mannhoff seven minutes and 23 seconds to round one. Dream has 10 minute rounds by submission comora. So Mizuno picks up the win over Mannhoff. Mannhoff is not looking good. He's lost two in a row. - Yeah. - And then we go forward to the lightweight championship bout, dream lightweight champion Shini Ayoki, last seen over here fighting Gilbert Melendez in not the most exciting fight. - It was the most exciting fight of the evening though. - Yeah, yeah, it wasn't a very exciting part. - Melendez really did. He had a great game playing. - Oh yeah. - And he made the dream champion who came over just overclass. - Just overclass. - Like, I mean Melendez is one of the best lightweights in the world. - Yeah. And Ayoki is one of the best submission match in the world, but Melendez knew enough not to take it to the ground. He kept on top. So, Ayoki took on Katsuye, Kawajiri. Kawajiri, unfortunately, was foolish not to take it to the ground. One minute and 53 seconds, Shini Ayoki locks in an ankle lock and gets the top. So, Ayoki retains his lightweight championship and therefore will most likely be seen again in strike force. Probably not with Melendez, but this is kind of great. - Here's the thing. His dream is starting to become kind of, that they're talking a lot. Well, no, no, no, they're talking a lot and making a lot of promises and doing a lot of bait-in switches, that they're promising. They're promising Ayoki versus Melendez fight in Japan in late September. And Melendez is like, I never said that. - Why would he, why would he fight Ayoki again? Like, he has nothing to prove and the first fight was boring in her end. - And I nailed it for this card that just happened was Riko Rodriguez versus Alice Roverame. And hopefully he's like, I didn't train for this fight. I didn't even like agree to it. - They're just making stuff up. - Riko Rodriguez went to Japan, showed up, ready to fight. And they're like, oh, Wolverine, no showed. Well, Wolverine didn't even start training. - Jokes on you. - Wolverine's been on vacation, right? And so, yeah, he actually got paid though, Riko. - Well, yeah, he better get paid. He flew all the way to Japan. - But this is a dream, it's a promotion that looked really viable even a year or two ago, but they're starting to bleed money. - And so it happens when you associate yourself with Strike Force. - And also, when you're paying Jose, you can say go to fight with me. (laughs) That was hilarious. - But yeah, they're starting to bleed money. And then they're also promising fights with Americans that just aren't happening, that weren't even agreed to. - Yeah. - It's, I mean, Strike Force has been looking bushily, glibly, dream is a completely different level. - I mean, but this is how a promotion dies. You promote these carnival act-full fights. And then you begin having issues with contracts and you can't get your fighters in your card. And soon enough, you start losing sponsorships. And the second you lose the sponsorships, it's over and dream of collapse and that. And I mean, this is exactly how I lead a seed-eyed. This is exactly how affliction died. You know, we've seen five or six promotions go by the way. - Yeah, once you start losing your sponsorship, you get desperate, you start fixing fights, you start doing like-- - Dream is already-- - Or making up fights. - Dream is already in the making up fights category. - Yeah. - They're soon gonna lose spots. People that pay, people that sponsor to stay, oh, I want my fight, I want my product to advertise in an over-in-fight. And then they're like, oh, I was an over-in-fight. What do you have in this place? Kavakante versus Keguni. - Yeah, well, plus think about this. Why would ovary, after, you know, just there's a lot of talk about him and the Strike Force heavyweight title, why would he go over to Japan right now when he's just about to break big in America? - Yeah, he just had his first title defense in multiple years. Why would he go to Japan? - And people are talking about people who are buzzing about him. You know? And why would he go over to Japan and risk his status right now on like a fight with like a few weeks notice? - Yes. - If I was him, I wouldn't show up either. - And for a Strike Force update, completely off the other side, I'm saying that Strike Force has about 14 and a half months left in his career. - I countdowns getting pretty fast. Yeah, I think you're 18 month promotion, I think you're down to like 15 months, 15 months. - 15 months or something, I'm so... - It's bleeding weeks. - I definitely think in Strike Force is bleeding. They're already doing carnival act fights. We're gonna talk a little bit more about the teeth. - Yeah, and the teeth. - And then like, it's just a short step between when they start having issues with sponsorships, they're already having issues with CBC, or CBS. - CBS, yeah. - Unfortunately, that is why Dream is important because it is a road map for how a promotion dies, that we've already seen it with a lead XC and a affliction, but now we can actually call it on air as this promotion bleeds out. And it's gonna apply to its partner promotion, Strike Force over here as well. - Although Strike Force isn't, doesn't have any money involved in Dream, but they're sharing talent, which... - They're sharing talent. - They're sharing reputation. It's bad all the way around. - Yeah, but it's just a train wreck, basically. So let's go forward to some news. What do we have in the way of news? - All right, so I actually thought this was pretty strange. Brock Lesnar's Jiu Jitsu coach has said that Lesnar wants to enter the Abu Dhabi World Submission Championship. - Well, honestly, if anyone's gonna be able to do it on just a little bit of training, then Lesnar, he's a pure athlete. He just, he can do everything. - So his game plan would be that, like they said, his game plan would be that he wouldn't even really do submission stuff. He just wouldn't get tapped, and he would out point with his wrestling. - Yeah, totally. - But with that being said, Avery Jiu Jitsu coach likes to be like, "Oh, at some point, my student's gonna enter ADCC." Until I hear Paul Heyman or Brock Lesnar say, we've bought him a ticket to Abu Dhabi, I don't count that as news, so... - I agree. But I mean, that's a pretty established, some credential for him. - If he manages to go and pick it up. But I mean, like... - I think if he went, he'd do well, to be honest. I mean, he just has that... - Well, that's a great, all right. - In turn, ability. - He's a good wrestler. - He'd do okay, but I mean, at the same time. Like, I don't see Brock Lesnar going to Abu Dhabi. - Well, he's the UFC heavyweight championship. - Well, he's the heavyweight championship to fight for no money. - Yeah, I agree. - Just to prove that he's the best grappler in the world. - Especially when he can fight, he can fight in UFC to make like $3 million a night. - Yeah, like... - However, it's not like he needs the money right now. - True. And UFC 119 on September 25th, they just announced their double main event. It's a no-garra brothers double main event. You've got... - Mm-hmm. - Antonio Rodrigo no-garra is facing Frank Mira in a rematch. - Oh, good. I'd like to see that. - Which is very important because... - I'm interested in that. - Their last match for the interim heavyweight title... - Yep. - No-garra had a staff infection going into it when Mira knocked him out. - And Mira's been using his knockout of no-garra in every... - No, Mira established himself as a great striker. - Oh, yeah. He knocked it again with a staff infection. - And then the co-made event is little nog versus Ryan Bader. - That's gonna be good. That's... Bader hasn't fought since he knocked up Jardine, how's he? - That's right. - So that'll be it. - This is a big step up to Card for Bader. - Bader's a friggin buzz saw. - Co-made, co-made, co-made, co-made... - Co-made, co-made, co-made, co-made, co-made. - Do you guys think this pay-per-view, anyone's gonna... - Absolutely not. - I mean, no-garra, no, senior no-garra, big nog. He's an extremely famous legend in fighting. But... - I love the guy. - This isn't for a belt. This isn't for a contender shot. This is just to have to see if he can advantage his loss with Mira. - I think the hype package is gonna sell on a ticket, still. - But keep in mind... - Mira's always good with hype package. - Keep in mind that we're... - You're still gonna fight with Congo. - Yeah. - Yes, but when they were both made eventing a show after they came off a season of The Ultimate Fighter, that pay-per-view didn't do all that well. - That's true. - So, I mean, there's no reason to suggest that these two two guys together without an Ultimate Fighter. - Or a belt. - Without a belt. And without any real grudge between them, 'cause they've already settled it in their last fight. I have no reason why this one would draw money other than to say, "Well, this is no-garra healthy." And unfortunately, no-garra is not the fighter he was 10 years ago. He's taken a lot of more punishment, so to the same. - Keep in mind that they're coming off of two really big pay-per-views. - Well, okay, two big pay-per-views sandwiched over a small one. But there's probably a lot of, there might be a lot of spillover from the Karwan Lesnar. - Yeah, well, they definitely-- - But what happened with you? - You have a couple look big too. - Yeah, so, I mean, you wanna have a pay-per-view that's going to give you a lot to look at and be very exciting because you're probably gonna have a lot of spillover from Karwan and Lesnar. People buying it to say, "Oh man, I saw this one. "It was great. "Maybe the next one would be just as good." - And it's for little mode. I mean, he didn't lot look that good against Jason Burles. - No, he didn't. - But, and also let's be serious though. I mean, if Mere wins this fight, they don't need much of an excuse to do. - Oh, they don't put him back. - Oh yeah, he's on the drag with the Lesnar. - Maybe two wins, maybe one of the desperate. But, I mean, they do Mere Lesnar again? - There's another million bucks. - They will do anything they can to get Mere and Lesnar together. - Yeah, 'cause that's just huge business. - And Bader's gonna crush a little bit. - So, I might think of this one as almost like a lost leader pay-per-views rehab Mere. - Yeah. - GSP's actually been floating the idea of retiring once he meets, once he faces Anderson Silva. - Wow. - I think it seems like I'll sort of like a one-off comment. I'm not sure how much it is to him, but he's been saying on MMA junkie radio, he said that he wants to fight until it's no longer fun. I'm assuming that means it's been getting less fun for him. His fights have actually been getting less fun. - Well, I mean, I agree to a lot more. - He's not a lot more professional as a champion, so I mean, I'm sure that's part of it. - And also, when he wants to stop, when he's got nothing else to prove. And by moving up and if he wins the middleweight title, or at least beats Anderson Silva, and maybe that's what he has to prove. - As far as I know-- - Hopefully that doesn't happen for a while, 'cause I want to see GSP fight for a few years. - As far as I know, there's no plans to move him up, and Dana has said that he doesn't want the guy to move up. There are certainly no plans to move put him with Anderson Silva, and in fact, there's some plans to move Anderson Silva up. So I mean, again, like when it happens, it happens, but until then-- - Silva Shogun's gonna happen before Silva GSP does, I think. - And if Silva-- - Silva Lesnar is gonna happen before Silva GSP, I know. Silva Me is gonna happen before Silva GSP does. And like, I'm not playing on ever seeing Silva. I guess he's gonna come to the radio station and attack me before he invites his GSP. - So this is really unfortunate. There's a WBC show on August 18th, which I'm really looking forward to. That's unfortunate. What's unfortunate is that Riot Faber just pulled out. - Yeah, that really sucks. - He's injured. - And that's too bad. He was moving down to 135, and that just sucks, 'cause I love watching him fight. - Yeah, your I fan is always entertaining. - It was important to see what he could do at 135, because there's two guys at 145 he can't be, and he's already proven if he goes with the 155, he just doesn't have to-- - He did what happens, but 135. He could rejuvenate his career. - Yeah, so-- - And him facing crews, wouldn't that be interesting? Like, yeah, I hope it's not a, what does it say what injury it is? Like, what's injured on him? - He's got him knee injury. - knee injury, so hopefully he can rehab that quickly and get back. - Yeah, apparently they're not gonna find a new opponent for Mizugaki, 'cause they're hoping to just redo the match that the next show or something. - That makes sense. - That's cool, but that show was looking really huge, and WC50, I believe, was looking really huge, and that really takes down the prestige a little bit. - Is it the Bantamweight title on that card? - Oh, yep, yeah. So, I mean, that's gonna be a great fight regardless. Every WC White's great, exactly. - Who cares is on the card? If it's WC, it's gonna be fantastic. - And loving this, on the September 30th show, a WC show, they wanna do a rematch of Serenity versus Barnard. - Awesome, excellent. - Yeah, it's almost together if Barnard can fight by then. And also, Korean Zombie's gonna fight so long. - Nice, actually. - I think it's like in George Rupp, or something from the Ultimate Fighter. - Yeah, so that'll be good. - Korean Zombie's money, he's money in the bank. - WBC's money, exactly. - And as we were talking about Strike Force a little bit earlier, this isn't confirmed, but Scott Coker, the head of Strike Force, has said that the likely next match for Fedor, it's Alice, you're over him for the heavyweight title. - And this is something that this was strongly rumored beforehand, and I'll actually wanna talk about this a bit. Even though Fedor has lost a Fabrizio Verdume for a number one contenders match to see who would get the next title shot, they don't think that Fabrizio Verdume is remarkable enough, so they're gonna put Fedor into the title spot anyways, despite the fact that he's lost. - It doesn't just have to do with that. It also has to do with Fedor's contract. Fedor has one fight left on his contract. If he fights Verdume, he may never get it. - And when you never get the title shot at it. And when you're scrambling, you don't worry about fairness. - True. - They're drowning, so they're worried about getting air. They're not worried about. - I definitely agree, and this is the only fight they have that they might be able to bring to CBS, but unfortunately, it's not all a legitimate fight. It simply is a legitimate fight. You cannot possibly say that. Fedor definitely lost a Fabrizio Verdume. There's no question about that. Even Fedor admits it. There was no questionable decision. It was no dirty tricks. There was no controversial decision. He got caught. He tapped. Fedor Fabrizio Verdume has already previously beaten over him. He deserves the title shot. - Yep. - It's madness to not give him that title shot. - You don't understand. - If you were to ask me, what would you rather see over in Fedor, over in Verdume? I'm definitely want over in Fedor. That's what I want to say. - I think you may be in the minority. And not that I don't want to see both, but Fedor avenging his loss against Verdume might have more interest in it, like. - No, but I'm saying like over in, I must have misspoke. - Over in Fedor versus over in Verdume. - Oh, yeah. - Who would rather see over in Fedor for sure? - I would definitely rather see over in Fedor. However, if over in Fedor, and he's loosing his contract at that fight too, you don't have Fedor anymore. Fedor will definitely leave your company. - I don't know where he's going to come. He's going to go to UFC for eight bucks. - Yeah, he's not going to pay him. - Well, at this point, Dan is saying if he comes over, he's going to have to go through the ultimate fighter. - Oh, he's that would be ridiculous. - He's also throwing that soul away. - He can see you can say that. - That's jawline, so. - But I mean like, you know, strike forces officially become the promotion where if you lose a title contender match, you get the title shot. (laughing) See, you know, Fedor already had a title contender match with Brett Rodgers. - He's not. - He's got the title shot. - He's got the title shot. - He's got the title shot. - Yeah, that's right. - You know, like. - They're trying something different. - Like, I think I'm going to go pick a fight with like Bobby Lashley, blues, and then they'll get me over it. You know. - Yeah. - That's ridiculous. - This is two times in real with it. - Who's that guy that lost a Herschel Walker? - Greg Noich. - Greg Noich. - Greg Noich, next title contender. He should be. After he faces Batista. - You know. - Terrible. - So like, what do you guys think? Like, like Fedor versus Verdun? Like. - I think it's. - That makes worse sense. - I think it's a good match for, I think Fedor versus O'Rame is a good match. I think it's very, very interesting. I think it'll be a good fight. I think Fedor will probably win. I also think it's completely legitimate and it makes your organization look like fools. It just credits your belt. And then, you know, I think the ultimate goal is Fedor beats O'Rame and then Fedor's contract rolls over because he'll have that point become a championship. - Oh, wait. See, here's the thing. He doesn't have a championship clause. What they want to do is, before his fight with O'Rame, which is what they want to do, he would sign a new contract that says if he wins the title from O'Rame, then he's got the contract clause, like that the championship clause. - Yeah, the championship clause. I mean, I think the idea is, okay, if we get him the championship, we'll have leverage with him and then we'll do for B.C.O. and Fedor. - Afterward. - Afterwards. - For the belt. - For the belt. - As a, okay, now Fedor can revenge his own laws. And I like, it's an interesting game plan, but the problem with MMA is, if you're getting put in as a legitimate sport, you can't have a game plan. You got to book the fights and come. - Oh, it becomes wrestling if you start doing that. - Well, here's the thing. I think you can almost book a game plan. You can say, you know what? We would really like it. A friend mayor would come back and face Lesnar, but you can't count on it. - Exactly. - But that's the difference. - You can want it. You can't count it. - You can want Fimir versus Lesnar at some point in your future. - You can steer it towards the track. - At the same time. - But you can't just. - Mere got crushed by a car when, and if he loses to Nogara, he's going to be way down the car. - He won't get a title shot. - Rightfully so. - But if he was in strike force. - He would. - He would get a title shot. 'Cause it'd be like, oh, it was getting great promo. - I think Wolverine and Fador is going to draw though. I think it's going to draw. - Fador and a title fight? I guess so. - Fador and a title fight? - Fador and a title fight will drop. - But keep in mind that first of all, Fador's still walking around with that Wama championship. - Which means nothing. - For a bell for promotion, I don't even know if Wama still exists. - No, full affliction's gone. - So, I mean like, you know, your worst case scenario is he beads over and leaves your company with a bell. - I think I said this before, but Fador's Wama bell is the equivalent of Ted DiBiase's million-dollar title for ladies. You know, like, it's just a-- - No, it's ridiculous. - If he wins-- - It's a crusted with diamonds. - If he wins, he's got you over the barrel. 'Cause he's got your championship bell. M1 is going to gouge you. Or he's going to leave with your belt and go back to Europe and walk around with your belt and the Wama belt with his guys held up behind him. And if he loses, your promotion's going to look like absolutely-- - If he has a championship clause, he can't leave with the belt. - If he has a championship clause. - He has to have a championship clause. He will be at four times a day. - He does it now. No, but they'll make him sign up for it. - Yeah, there's no way they're going to allow him to not have a championship clause. - How's he going to make Fador and M1 sign up? - Oh, actually, at the last minute, they'll pull out from that clause and they'll do the fight without it. - Yeah. - How are you going to make M1 sign up clause? M1 is no way they're going to sign that clause until after he's got the belt and you offer them the store and you say, okay, we'll give you a cut of all the profits, 50% of the company-- - We'll give you our entire promotion. It's now called M1. - It's Scott Coaker, who will now, like rename his firstborn child, M1 Global, you know, like-- - Seems like Strike Force has a lethal disease right now. Like there's-- - Yeah, it's called incompetence, yeah. - It just looks so promising, not that long ago. - Yeah, so going forward with Strike Force, the other news with their big prospect. - Of, which is us? Oh, Batista? (laughing) - Yeah, Batista. - Sorry, yeah, Batista from the WWE. Yeah, it looks like he's gonna be actually going into Strike Force. We talked about this last week. He's training with the Gracies and they say that if they can teach him, they're working on it. If they can teach him, you know, enough to not get caught, like fate or a get caught. I mean, if fate or a get caught, Batista can get caught. - Yeah. - But that he could do something. I, he can do something against-- - Greg Nodesh, Greg Nodesh, against-- - So, what they're going to do, this is a former WWE champion and a very, very serious straw in the wrestling world, much like a professional wrestling world, much like Brock was. However, despite the fact that he's huge and muscular, he also has asthma. - He's also 45. - And he's also 44. - 41, okay. - 41, so he's training with Cesar Gracie, rolling around with Gilbert Melendez and Jake Shields, and they're saying, yeah, if he can teach him enough to not get caught, maybe he can beat a couple of guys in MMA. And Coker is saying, we're going to offer him millions to come in and fight. - I don't think they can give him-- - Another flamour wrestler, Bobby Lashley. - Oh, that's down the line though. - Yeah. - That's not his first fight. - That's not going to be his first fight. - They'll have Batista come in and he'll beat some loser. - Greg Nodesh. - Some guy with a one-in-one record. He'll stop out there. - Yeah, and then draw some ratings, and then he'll win a few fights, and then he'll retire from MMA with some wins under his belt, Strike Force got some ratings. If they do it right, you can do this without Batista being a serious-- - That is a Strike Force having to do something right, which is-- - No track record, that's not good. - One of the things I said, this is a death knell for an MMA approach, and this is we start bringing in-- - The comics. - You start bringing Jose Cansaco-- - And the circus comes to the town. - To fight an elephant. You've brought in Herschel Walker, now they're going to bring in Batista. - You know, like, people that are losing are getting title shots, like there's nothing more you can do to hurt the credibility of your promotion. You know, like it's getting to the point why I don't even wanna commentate on Strike Force anymore, because I know this is gonna be like a train hit the wall. - Let's be fair, though. The last Strike Force show was really good. - Fair enough. - The last one was indeed good. - And actually, the last bit of Strike Force news, we've been talking for weeks and weeks, it seems, about this. Jake Shields is likely going to UFC, vacating his Strike Force middleweight title. There's a huge plan for like an eight or a 16-man Strike Force middleweight tournament. They now decided that on August 21st, Jacob Sosa is gonna face Tim Kennedy for the bell. - Yeah, well, they don't even have 16 middleweights in Strike Force, I don't think. - No, but they're still gonna do an eight-man tournament to fight a number one contender. - Okay, no, I find, I actually have a problem with this. Jake Shields, your champion, leaves. Goes to UFC, it's highly publicized. This guy's left your promotion and gone to Queen Air Pastures. You could re-legitimize his bell. - With the tournament. - With the tournament. - With the tournament. - With the tournament before, you can make it a big deal. You can turn this negative into a positive. - Yeah. - No, instead of having these two guys, you know, Tim Kennedy's pretty good. You know, like these guys aren't bad, but having these two guys with no real name behind them, fight for this, fight for this bell, and then do a tournament for the number one contender, doesn't help you. - That's too complicated, but I just have the tournament. - Not cool. - And last bit of Strike Force news, and then we're never gonna talk about Strike Force on Strike Force this week. Bobby Lashley's knee is better. He says that he's back and he's begging Scott Koker for a fight. So Bobby Lashley will most likely be on the next Strike Force card to see if they can get anything out of this guy. - I guess we stop all to our problem. - You can stop all to our problem. (laughing) So I think that's just about it for the news. - Yep. - So yeah. - So we're gonna go quickly over two last little bits of conversation we wanna have. First of all, because we're running a little bit low on time, the last bit's gonna talk about it, we're gonna go on a little bit long. The first part is the upcoming Impact FC card in Sydney, Australia. So this is, yeah, this is the show. - This is a new promotion. They're making some waves of local promotion in Australia. And they're basically, they've spent all the purse to try to get in some of the big former names in the mixed martial arts. So we're gonna have in the heavyweights, Ken Shamrock versus Pedro Rizzo. - Yeah, Ken Shamrock is still fighting, everybody. - So Ken Shamrock, not in the US. - Not in the US, but Paul Daley recently got fired from the UFC, will be on the card against Daniel Ocasio. - The fact that he's even fighting anywhere bothers me. - I think that this company is the island of Misfit Toys. - It's Australia, it's what Australia used to be for England. (laughing) - Bob's, all the criminal conflicts are going over, and all in all enough, Paul Daley recently committed a crime in beating Kasha Kafta Bell, and he's British. - According to Dana, it's a tough country, so. - So then Bob's app, heavyweight belt, we're heavyweight belt between him and soo Paulia. Bob's app is a huge Japanese sensation, huge meaning he cuts down from both 320 pounds. And huge isn't, I mean, he's had fights in Japan that had like 50 million viewers. Like he's a god to relax. - Yeah, he's a big, he's a big, he's in that dream tournament that was a conseco tournament. - And then middleweights, Paulo Filejo, will take on Dennis Kang. Kang is a UFC fighter, former UFC. - Canadian. - Who did okay from self in the UFC, but just didn't have the power to compete at the top. - Yeah, he dropped Michael Bisping, but didn't beat Michael Bisping, fortunately. - Yeah, so this card I know, I've got a feeling that there's a couple decent fighters on it, that kind of sounds like a bit of a train wreck. We're probably gonna review it for next week's show. - We'll quickly review it. - I definitely like to see this in a whole bunch. - Now last week we said that because we didn't have a show or a preview, we'd ask for some questions. We only got one really interesting one that we're gonna talk about. Now this goes back to a little interview given by Liodo Machida's father. Machida's father gave an interview in Brazil and they asked him what did he think about Machida rehabbing for his injuries. Hank Bain prepared for his next fight. Machida's father said that he thinks that Liodo is done with MMA, that he should retire and that he has nothing left to prove. So he says that his goal is to have his son retire from the USC and leave mixed martial arts behind. - Now this is now like Machida himself, like Liodo. He hasn't said that. - He hasn't said that, but I mean, his father has a huge influence on him. And if your father's saying you're done with a fighting game, he should retire. How much is that influence of fighters' mentality? - He's definitely not done though. - His manager's looking for a new fight, but. - Yeah, I mean, he's not done, but physically, obviously he's not done. He can still beat everybody in the division, except for one person, but maybe in his mind, he's done. - And here's the thing, they were trying to put together a fight between him and Rampage for a pay per view in the next few months and Rampage turned it down because he doesn't want to be in any more boring fights after the Rashad fight. - Yeah. - Well, that's going to be a terrible match up in style. It's two counter strikers. I don't think it'll be boring. - I don't think so either. I've really done-- - I've really done dodges for five rounds. - I think it's Rampage dodging Vegeta. And if you go by that logic, then if you've got top guys dodging Vegeta, he doesn't need to retire. - No, he really does it. And honestly, I didn't find like the last, I mean, both fights with Shogun were not boring fights. The fight with Rashad was not boring. Like, Vegeta started his career in UFC being very elusive and getting a kind of a bad reputation, but I don't find him a boring fighter. I really don't. - Well, I mean, he can put on either style of fight. If he wants to play his defensive game, he can be extremely boring, but if he's willing to push the pace a little bit, he can be kind of exciting to watch 'cause it is such an unorthodox style. Now, with that being said, I mean, I definitely think that there's an element of Rampage saying I don't want to fight this guy 'cause it's a bad style match up for me, but you have to look at where the fighter's mentality is. If he doesn't have the mental game to fight, that usually means it's like he's not gonna be able to win. - So you're assuming that maybe Shogun broke him? - For Machita's brother who previously fought, he fought one fight, got caught in a submission, tapped out and he quit fighting after that. I'm thinking the Machita father is kind of like-- - Probably got a lot of influence on the kids, and he's like, you can't have my style of karate exposed. You know, if you're not able to win every fight, I don't want you fighting. So I think in a lot of ways, he's gonna be pressuring Leota to say, hang it up, become an instructor. You're already 33 years old, so you're a little bit old, you're getting a little bit older for them and they game anyways. This dude is a former champion, and as a former, you know, like star, he's got millions waiting for him as a trainer. - I don't know what to talk. Millions as a trainer? I think he's-- - He'll definitely do it. - I think the future of his money, he hasn't even started to make the money that he's gonna be able to make as a UFC headliner and co-weight inventor. - I agree. - His biggest money, he has one loss in his future. He has one loss, big deal. Come back and-- - One loss in his previously perfect record. - Yeah, and you can say, oh, he'll be a bigger trainer than Greg Jackson, he's a karate instructor. Karate's not the hot thing in MMA. - Oh yeah, he's an MMA instructor as well. And then, I mean, like a legitimate champion who has undefeated for a long time. So, but with that being said, I mean, what it comes down to is this. If his father thinks that he mentally is broken, that's a really, that's kind of a bad sign. I think that 'cause his manager's still shopping for fights, Leo will probably be back to finish out his contract. But I think if he gets another reversal, he might leave. Now, it's too early to tell at this point, he's still, he's got a fighter's heart. His manager's looking for fights. So, we'll see what goes for with that. And we'll hopefully get to lose the car. - I don't see him going anywhere for a little while. I think he's gonna have a few more fights with him. - If he keeps winning, I think he'll rebound, you know. So, we'll see. So, that's about all the time we have for this week.
