Every man's been a coward at one time or another, Schomer. But it doesn't have to last. It's lasted with me. How could I face Anne knowing I'm a failure in a coward? Chester and I stayed out of the way and did our waiting downstairs in the office. [Music] I've heard tell people going to sleep and staying that way practically forever, mister. Don't you think that's what she's got? Who ever heard of sleeping sickness around here at Chester? Well, maybe she caught it back east and brought it with her. Anne, I don't know about back east. Marshall? Well, what do you know? Oh, come on in. It's no use, Marshall. What? I came to tell you I can't do it. Oh. I'm going to go away. Maybe you can tell her I got killed or something. No, I haven't been drinking. Not a drop since you and Doc and Chester came down there. Shomer, there's something. Matt, I wanted to tell you the day. Yeah, what is it, Doc? We found Anne lying unconscious on the street last night, and she's been that way ever since. She came to her a few minutes ago, man. Oh. She say anything. Yes? It seems Hank Groats stopped her and tried to talk to her. She slapped him, made him so mad he hit her. You are? He might've done it with the flat of his hand, but it gave her a concussion. He's a mighty powerful man. Hank Groats hit Anne. I'll go get him, Doc. Wait a minute, and I'll go with you, Mr. Dylan. I just want to lock the door out back here. All right. I saw Groats going into the Texas trail next door. No, good. I'm going back to Anne. She's a bad shit, Doc. Yeah, Doc. Mr. Dylan, can you give me a hand out here? Yeah, I'm coming, Justin. Because the door is warped, Mr. Dylan, you'll have to shove onto it so I can get it locked. Okay. Yeah, there it is. Hank, got it. You know, we're going to have to build a new door one of these days. That one sure ain't much. Hey, where'd Schumer go? No, I don't know. Mr. Dylan, my gun's gone. What? My sixth gun that was on the caught here just a minute ago. Are you sure? Of course I'm sure. Schumer must have taken it. Damn. What for? To go after Hank Groat with. Come on. You sure? Mr. Dylan? Well, it's a cinch doc that can take your gun. Oh, no, of course not. But the idea of Schumer is going after Hank Groat. He saw him go into the Texas trail here. So this is the last place I'd look for Schumer? Oh, maybe. There he is. Talking to Groat over there at the bar. That gun in your belt don't scare me, Schumer. You're a coward. Everybody knows it. Maybe I've been a coward long enough. Wait a minute, Chester. I'm not carrying a gun. That proves you're a coward, Schumer. I'll get rid of the gun. I'll slide it down the bar. There. Now will you fight? You will fool to do that. I'll kill you now. She was under seeding. I think she knew something was wrong. We didn't fool her. They should have come here first. Let it go and have to grow. Maybe. Might have helped. Didn't he prove anything, did I? What do you mean? I wanted Groat to kill me, Marshall. Don't you understand? That way, I never have to tell Anne the truth about me. It's her I couldn't face.
