It's that time of year again. It's the sort of time that around here on the public square, we start thinking about a movie. You know what it is. It's a wonderful life. Hi, this is Dave Zanati. Thanks for joining us again here on the public square. There's a gift waiting for you at aproundtable.org and that's a full hour long conversation, a special production on the Frank Capra movie. It's a wonderful life. How come we spend time around this time every year, around the new year, talking about it? It's the life lessons that we get from Bedford Falls that seem to jump right out of the screen and into our living rooms and into our lives right now. Like the thought that one person does actually make a difference and that friendships and community really does matter. Tell them the truth counts and prayers actually are heard and answered. One of my favorite quotes from that movie comes from Clarence Oddfella. You remember him. He was the angel that came down in the hope of earning his wings to help out poor George Bailey in that sequence when George was not exactly sure he was better off dead or alive and probably was worth more dead. This is what Clarence said to George, "Strange isn't it. Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he? You know, one of the saddest stories in life is when a person doesn't know who their friends really are or what a huge difference they may be making right now as a friend to someone you need." Happy New Year from the public square on New Friends at the American Policy Roundtable. [Music]
