First Exposure to the Outdoors
Growing up I did not come from a family that was participating much, or at all in outdoor activities. Mostly we were sports family. So my weekends were spent running track and playing soccer or basketball. I think in eighth grade I got cut from the basketball team so I started exploring the outdoors just on my own with a friend who didn't play basketball. In high school when I got my first car, I actually went out and started hiking for the first time around the Olympic Penninsula. I grew up on Bainbridge Island, so there were a ton of places to go.

Advice
One thing I love about this industry is that most people who are involved are involved for a reason. It's not like, this was my major in college, so I just did it, you know? You love what you do and that's just awesome because there's nothing like it. One of the reasons I got out of software sales is I'd be in a room doing a presentation and you could just read the room. People just did not want to be there. People were just not stoked about the job, not passionate about and that stuff to be there. And that just kind of sucks the energy out of the room, where I've never had that happen in this industry. Everyone is super enthusiastic. So I would say one thing is to understand you're going to be a lot with other people who are very passionate and passionate people recognize other passionate people.
