Nothing But The Blues #88
[MUSIC] [MUSIC] Day by day, night after night. [MUSIC] Time to fail, money tight, nothing free. Was somebody coming rescue me? I'm stranded, caught in the crossfire. [MUSIC] Stranded, caught in the crossfire. [MUSIC] Two for two, I for a night. Say it's old just to buy, buy, buy. Make it $1, steal it and down. Come on, catch 'em, see that I'm stranded. Caught in the crossfire, I'm stranded, caught in the crossfire. [MUSIC] I saw, you kinda carried it, some kinda give or say, oh no, we're stranded, caught in the crossfire. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Say the strong, lose the weak, never turning the other cheek. Trust nobody, don't mean no fool. Whatever happened to the golden rule, we got stranded. [MUSIC] Caught in the crossfire, we got stranded, caught in the crossfire. We got stranded, caught in the crossfire. [MUSIC] You're stranded, caught in the crossfire. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Welcome to nothing but the blues, me, Cliff. And that was Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, getting it off with crossfire from his 1989 album In Step. And if my voice sounds worse than usual this week, once again I've got a call, I don't believe it. So I'm struggling here with a big box of tissues and bottle of water, and I may not say too much. Okay, making his debut on the show, this is another Texan, this is Rocky Jackson. [MUSIC] Don't say nothing if you don't know what you're talking about. Don't say nothing if you don't know what you're talking about. [MUSIC] Don't say nothing if you don't know what you're talking about. And now that's where your trouble begins. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] If you don't believe me, try out for yourself. [MUSIC] If you don't believe me, try out for yourself. [MUSIC] If you don't believe me, try out for yourself. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] When you're doing alright, your old friend says, "Y'all are so you." When you're doing alright, your old friend says, "Y'all are so you." [MUSIC] Rocky Jackson with Don't Say Nothing. It's from its brand new album, Testify. And the album's a mixture of covers and originals. And that one's obviously a Jimmy Reed cover. Well, I've not played a lot of Charlie Spand on the show, so let's have a couple featuring him. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Lovely, Blind Blake with Hastings Street, recorded in Richmond, Indiana in August 1929, with Charlie Spand on piano. And before that Charlie Spand himself soon this morning blues, it was the first recording ever made in Richmond, Indiana again in June 1929. Blind Blake's list is being on guitar on that one, but he's not much in evidence. I've listened on the headphones now. I can't really hear him at all. Strange. Well, there's another new one now. This is the Blues Master's featuring Mickey Thomas.
