It's from the complete 1940 Library of Congress recordings, and it's listed as traditional arranged Mattel, so if you know an earlier version, please let me know. Well, Kirk Fletcher's last solo album was Shades of Blue, which was in 2004, and we've waited a long time, but he's now got a new one out. This is from that. This ain't no way. [music] Well, you can go on, darling. Ain't gonna pay you to stay. You can go on, darling. Ain't gonna pay you to stay. Not sure I love you, keep it. But there just ain't no way. Well, there's a lot of fish in the ocean, a lot of fish in the sea, and I believe in myself. There's another fish for me. But though I'm gonna, ain't gonna pay you to stay. Well, I saw another king, but there just ain't no way. [music] [music] Well, I can't get through to you. I'm gonna leave you alone. Now, if you miss one lesson, well, I'd love to come along. Oh, darling. Ain't gonna pay you to stay. Not sure I love you, keep it. But there just ain't no way. You can go on, darling. Ain't gonna pay you to stay. Well, you can go on, darling. Ain't gonna pay you to stay. Not sure I love you, keep it. But there just ain't no way. [music] [music] Don't make no sense but friends to call your brother. [music] Don't make no sense for your friends to call your brother. [music] [music] [music] Don't make no sense for a poor man to get on his feet. [music] I said don't make no sense for a poor man to get on his feet. [music] [music] [music] Don't make no sense but friends to call your brother. Don't make no sense, baby, but friends to call your brother. 'Cause all I wanna do is make love to your own night. [music] [music] [music] Don't make no sense from his 2007 album, "Power of the Poncha Train" and before that Kirk Fletcher with "Ain't No Way" from my turn is a brand new album. He'll be appearing again later in the show in one of his other incarnations. I've been reading an interview with Thomas Dorsie, the father of gospel music, who wrote "Take My Hand Precious Lord" just after his wife died and things like that. Earlier though, he was a blues singer known as George at all. This is him with "Tumper Red". [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] Richard Ray Farrell and Steve Geiger with "You Can't Get That Stuff No More". It's another "Tumper Red" and "Yorja Tom Song" and it's from the 2006 album "Down Home, Old School, Country Blues". And before that "Tumper Red" and "Yorja Tom" themselves, it's tied like that, recorded in Chicago in October 1928. All right, we're doing now. Let's have some better James. [music] Now I'm going to tell you so you'll understand how it all got started, how it all began. God made the heavens, God made the earth, made a man and a woman out of blood, sweat and dirt. And he looked around the neighborhood and he said to himself, "This is good." [music] God made the rivers and the mountains with his hands. God made the wind blow the shifting sands. He put the fishes in the deep blue sea. He filled up the garden with flowers in the trees, and God looked around the neighborhood and he said to himself, "This is good." [music] But the devil, he was jealous, took the apple in his hand. The devil chimped in warm and warm and tempted man. God, he mourned and the tears rolled down his face. It broke his heart to see his children fall from grace in only seven days. They say God rested, but you know that ain't the truth. Because on the seven days, God made the blue. Because on the seven days, God made the blue. [music] [music] The blues has been around ever since that day. Everybody gets the blues. Everybody got to pay for the wicked things we do. And what we put each other through, and on the seven days, they say God rested, but you know that ain't the truth. Because on the seven days, God made the blue. [music] Because on the seven days, God made the blue. [music] As for James with almost seventh day, it's from her 2003 album Let's Roll. Well, if like me, you're a fan of the early Bob Dylan, the next couple of tracks will no doubt ring some bells. [music] I went home last night, and only shot him right, and making feelings 'til he popped my head. While I wrapped on the door, I had my baby roll, and I'm gone to bed. Get up and let me in, on one of the answers then, you know you're having treated me right. I paid all his rent, you haven't got a sin, you have to watch it, you hold tonight. I need a lobby of one more chance, I ought to be right. I need to watch a lobby of one more chance, I won't stay all night. I need to watch a lobby of one more chance, I take it to the boys' friends. I want time to feel right, but the view doesn't matter, there's one more chance. [music] Well, then it's been, been, let it be. I sit on the side of her bed, 'cause I hardly tell, you have some fear, she's having a little hidden fear. You know you're having treated me right. I paid all his rent, you haven't got a sin, you have to watch it, you hold tonight. I need a lobby of one more chance, I ought to be right. I need to watch a lobby of one more chance, I want to stay all night. I need to watch a lobby of one more chance, I take it to the boys' friends. I need to watch a lobby of one more chance, I take it to the boys' friends. I need to watch a lobby of one more chance, I ought to be right. I need to watch a lobby of one more chance, I want to stay all night. I need to watch a lobby of one more chance, I take it to the boys' friends. Well, I'm gonna pay for that as the views, just let me tell the one more chance. Just see it blues, I don't know, keep on chasing me. Don't let me fall, I've got no job, I let your job. Well, if they know you, you'll find out, I've got the chance that you'll ever have. I ain't got one, I don't know, just let me tell the one more chance. [MUSIC] I'm looking for in my eyes, leave on fixing to die, leave on fixing to die. I'm looking for in my eyes, leave on fixing to die. [MUSIC] I know I was born to die, but I need to leave my children crying. [MUSIC] There's a show we lay right there, show we bound to die, show we bound to die. There's a show we lay out, show we bound to die. [MUSIC] I know I was born to die, but I need to leave my children crying. [MUSIC] Your mother treated me like a, was her baby child, was her baby child. Your mother treated me like a, was her baby child. [MUSIC] There's one side tied so hard and come back home to die. [MUSIC] So many nights at the five sides, how much will I love to try? How much will I love to try? So many nights at the five sides, how much will I love to try? [MUSIC] 'Cause I told him I'd die and he'll say goodbye. [MUSIC] Look who we are. On the barren ground. On the barren ground. Look who we are. On the barren ground. [MUSIC] Your understanding's out on us and it's they'll let me down. [MUSIC] Mother, take my children's life. Three forty, let me down. Three forty, let me down. Mother, take my children's life. Four days, let me down. [MUSIC] Fantastic, buck of white and fixing to die blues. I recorded in Chicago in March 1940. And before that, Henry Thomas with "Honey won't you allow me one more chance?" I recorded in Chicago in October 1927. All right, we'll see you now. Let's have some classic little Walter. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] No kidding. I'm ready to fight. I've been looking for my baby all night. If I get up in my sight. How'd go the light? [MUSIC] I thought I'd treat my baby fast. Now she's getting all in my hair. If I get up in my sight. How'd go the light? [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] No kidding. I'm ready to go. When I find a boy don't you know. If I get up in my sight. How'd go the light? [MUSIC] I've never been so mad before. Then I found out she ain't mine no more. Now if I get up in my sight. How'd go the light? [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Midnight is a lonely hour. Yes to be a lonely hour. Midnight is a lonely hour. Yes to be a lonely hour. When the one you've loved. I've had the plans to know. Well I cried and I cried. I cried the whole night too baby. Well I cried and I cried. I cried the whole night too baby. But I made up my mind. I won't cry no more. Yeah. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC]
