[MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] I say baby, why you wanna leave me? Why you wanna leave me? Why you wanna leave me? Why you wanna treat me this way? You're gonna wake up one moment and you're gonna need my love someday. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] I always have a problem when tracks fade out and never know how soon to come in. Probably the problem is because I do the whole show on headphones, so I can still hear it fading, but that's my problem. Well, there's nothing but the blues of Maycliffe, and that was Bernard Allison getting us off with Down South. It's from his 2002 album, Storms of Life, and of course Bernard Allison is the son of Luther Allison. [MUSIC] You thought I was gone, and I came back. [MUSIC] I want you to know I'm serious as a heart attack. [MUSIC] Let me love you, and let me try. [MUSIC] I want to stay the day. I want to share your life. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. I'm serious. [MUSIC] Bye. [MUSIC] Six minutes is over now. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] How about a Luther Allison? [MUSIC] The soul fixing man. Thank you everybody. [MUSIC] 49 is coming at you next. Yeah, 49. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Thank you. [MUSIC] Amazing. Absolutely amazing. He seems to check the name "check buddy" guy there as well. There's nobody who's actually guesting. But he's not mentioned anywhere on the packaging. So maybe there are contractual reasons for that. Who knows? That was the Luther Allison, of course, with Sirius. It's from the terrific CD and DVD combination Songs from the Road. And if you're a Luther Allison fan, you have to have that one. Brilliant. He used the phrase "serious as a heart attack." And by strange coincidence, that's the title of the next track. This is Johnny Winter. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Johnny Winter with Sirius as a heart attack. From his 1985 album Serious Business, it's been a while since I've played only Johnny Winter, I think. Could just hear that one. Well, let's change the mood a bit now and have some piano. This is speckled red. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Yes, I ain't gonna be your lowdown dog no more. But I ain't gonna be your lowdown dog no more. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [APPLAUSE] Terrific stuff. First off, we heard speck of red with the right string with the wrong go-yo. His real name was Rufus Perriman. And he originally cut that in Chicago in April 1930. But the version I played there was from a session he cut in September 1956. And after speck of red, we heard piano red with I ain't gonna be your lowdown dog no more. His real name was Willy Perriman. He was Rufus' younger brother. And that was recorded in London in 1977. And on the same album, he does yo-yo, and the credit is to him. But I'm fairly sure it was written by speck of red. But if you know differently, let me know. It's like changing again now back to 1930. This is Joe Kellycott. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] The Beald Street Sheik's with Tink, nobody's business if I do, part two, and I don't have part one. The Sheik's were actually Frank Stokes and Dan Sane, and that was recorded in Memphis in August 1928. And before that, Steve Howell, with downtown blues from his brand new album, since I saw you last, and that's a Frank Stokes number, which is why they went together. Well, it's time to chill out now, I think. This is Stevie Ray Vaughan. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] I already like that. That was Robert Belfer. I don't think I've ever played him on the show before with a track called Black Matty. It's credited as a traditional arranged by Junior Kimbre, and it's from his 2000 album What's Wrong with You. But actually, I'm playing it here from the volume two of not the same old blues crap. I've mentioned them before. Before Robert Belfer was Junior himself with Sad Day's Lonely Nights. The title track from his 1998 album. Well, the song "Driving Wheels" has been recorded by many, many people. This is the guy who wrote it, Roosevelt Sykes. [MUSIC] My baby don't have to wait. She don't have to drive and steer. [MUSIC] Baby don't have to wait. She don't have to drive and steer. [MUSIC] I give everything you need. I am or driving weird. [MUSIC] She left me that morning. Said she'd be back soon. [MUSIC] She left me that morning. She said she would be back soon. [MUSIC] She'd be back early Friday morning. She looked sad on day in the afternoon. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Every time she walked, she shaped like a lead trimming on a tree. [MUSIC] Every time she walked, she shaped like a lead trimming on a tree. [MUSIC] She said, "Come on daddy." But here's why you get your steak potato and cheese. [MUSIC] When I rode my baby ladder, don't want to break the steel. [MUSIC] When I rode my baby ladder, I don't want to break the steel. [MUSIC] Then let her go to my baby. I am her driving weird. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] There was at least one after that, so, rules of science. This has been nothing but the blues. Me, Cliff, and the website is www.nothingbuttheblues.co.uk. There you'll find the playlist, links to earlier shows, links to interviews, and that sort of stuff. And you can email me, cliffnothingbuttheblues.co.uk. Leaving you today with something, again, I've not played for quite a while. Little Milton, Little Milton Campbell, and it's the title track from his 1982 home. The blues is all right, but we knew that anyway. Thanks for listening. Hope you'll join me again next week for another hour of Nothing But the Blues. [MUSIC] All right, y'all. I got something here for you now. I want everybody to get in on it. Put your hands together. This is cool. I'm going to tell you. I got this song. I'm going to sing. I'm going to sing it just for you. If you need the blues, I want you to help me sing it too. I want everybody to hear me when I sing. That the blues is back and it's here to stay. Let me explain it to you. I used to have someone that meant the whole world to me. But she left me for someone else, left my heart in misery. That's when I found like the blues would always be a part of me. Let me tell you this. You see, when she left me, she gave me the blues. That was the last thing I thought I could use, but now I'm glad she left me. ♪ I'm glad you gave me the blues ♪ ♪ You see, I'm when I found me ♪ ♪ I'm when I found me someone new ♪ ♪ That's why I can say this tonight ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Oh, hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ It's alright, alright, it's alright ♪ ♪ Every day in life ♪ ♪ Let's test it for a second, yeah ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ It's alright, it's alright ♪ ♪ It's alright, it's alright ♪ ♪ Every day in life ♪ ♪ I'm gonna play for you now ♪ [music] ♪ I'm right, she left me ♪ ♪ I'm right, she gave me the blues ♪ ♪ You see I'm right, but you're the blues ♪ ♪ You're the blues that brought me to you ♪ ♪ Yeah, you see if she'd never given me the blues ♪ ♪ Or to found someone sweet like you ♪ ♪ That's why you said y'all ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Oh, hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ It's alright, it's alright ♪ ♪ It's alright, it's alright ♪ ♪ Every day in life ♪ ♪ I just gotta send and get your helpin' ♪ ♪ Just to find ♪ ♪ Hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ It's alright, it's alright ♪ ♪ It's alright, it's alright ♪ ♪ Every day in life ♪ ♪ Do it again ♪ ♪ It's alright ♪ ♪ Hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ You said hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ ♪ Oh, hey, hey, the blues is alright ♪ [BLANK_AUDIO]
