[MUSIC] [MUSIC] It used to be the grown ups who played the blues. It told me like you gotta pay a whole lot of dues, but it's a new one. And now the children play. [MUSIC] They see hold the rock and roll and play young folks blues today. [MUSIC] The latest little guy is rolling and tumbling. Say he sings like whoa, plays like you, but some look, he's a mother. And Bond is the first to agree. [MUSIC] He's got the blues so fast, and wonder if he'll live through puberty. [MUSIC] Young folks blues. They're playing young folks blues. I'll stop my son when he's free. He'll pay his dues on MTV. Young folks blues taking. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] I heard about a girl. Child is pushing eight. Say he sings like Coco Taylor, plays like Bonnie Rae. You hear her trouble. And every word you sing. [MUSIC] She knows a lot about love. A girl who hasn't had a first play. [MUSIC] We give a kid to the young folks, spreading the news. Paying their respects to her heroes of the blues. They reach new people. They may help the blues to thrive. [MUSIC] And maybe someday our heroes will get paid while they're alive. Yes, they will. Young folks blues. I'm down with young folks blues. I'll stop my son when he's free. He'll pay his dues on MTV. Young folks blues taking. Young folks blues. Young folks blues. That a girl is an animal. I'm down with young folks blues. [MUSIC] Welcome to Nothing but the Blues Me Cliff. That was Michael Hill's Blues mob getting us off with young folks blues. Great lyrics. I saw him live many years ago. Great act as well. It's from his 1998 album New York State of Blues. Well, let's hear some of those young folks blues. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Don't give me going babe. And his real name was Louis or Louis, I suppose, Louis Washington, and he recorded spirituals under his own real name, but recorded the blues as Tallahassee Tied. A bit like Josh White, I suppose, he recorded his early spirituals as Joshua White and his early blues as Pinewood Tom. And before that spark plug Smith with vampire women, vampire woman, sorry, recorded in New York in January 1933. I couldn't find any record of his real name, but I did find a note somewhere that apparently he took his name from a race horse rather than the car part. Very interesting. Okay, let's come right up to date now. This is a guy called Thor Bjorn Ristiger with Let's Go Down. [MUSIC] I'm just lying here, my butt is flat out on the floor. [MUSIC] I might sit a way down, but you keep a light from shining through. [MUSIC] I got nowhere, I'd rather be right here right now. [MUSIC] Ain't gonna let me see, step inside my room. [MUSIC] Oh, let's go down. [MUSIC] Oh, let's go down. [MUSIC] It's time to be leaving. I got my suitcase packed. [MUSIC] I'm just trying to keep moving, trying to keep from sinking down. [MUSIC] I'm down on the good luck, buddy. Blue, yeah, killing me. [MUSIC] I'm tired of rolling me running from my head down to my shoe. [MUSIC] Oh, let's go down. [MUSIC] Oh, let's go down. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Oh, let's go down. I'm just lying here. A mumble is flat on the floor. [MUSIC] My sheets are way down to keep the light from shining through. [MUSIC] Oh, let's go down. [MUSIC] Oh, let's go down. [MUSIC] Oh, let's go down. [MUSIC] Oh, let's go down. [MUSIC] Oh, let's go down. And if you want to read a true story of paying you Jews in the blues, read Johnny Shine's story. It's an amazing story and ultimately tragic as you might gather. Before that barbecue bob with spider on the fly, Robert Hicks to give him his real name, recorded in Atlanta, Georgia in April 1930. And I'm playing it from the complete works volume three. If you keep an eye on the document records, a website or even better get put on their mailing list, they often have sales. And I picked that one up really cheap. It was something like £3 or something. So I'm not sure what that is in dollars these days, but document records do all the old stuff. Lots of things sort of complete chronological recordings. And that was barbecue bob volume three. I'll have to get the two volumes at some stage. Okay, British based pen now the untouchables.
