From his 2005 album, don't need too much. Remember if you're a musician or a band, I'm on to submit material, just drop me an email, cliff@nothingbuttheblues.co.uk. Okay, let's crank it up a bit now. Well, the first time we met, you said you were alone, now I find out you got four kids at home trying to be right. I just want to know your name. If you're trying not to lie, I'll try to do the same. You gave me your number, I told you I'd call, no voice mail, no ring, no nothing out of home, try not to lie, baby. Love to you, it's just a game. If you're trying not to lie, I'll try to do, well I'll try to do, I'll try to do the same. I'll try to do the same, I'll try not to lie, baby, no nothing out of home, try not to lie, I'll try not to lie, baby, no nothing out of home, try not to lie, baby, no nothing out I saw you last night, with an old friend of mine, you told me you were sick, he said no, he feels just fine. Try not to lie, baby, I just want to know your name. If you're trying not to lie, I'll try to do the same. You told me you'd love me, I said I'd love you too, but one of us is lying, is it me or is it you? Try not to lie, baby. Love to you, it's just a game. If you're trying not to lie, I'll try to do the same. If you're trying not to lie, I'll try to do the same. If you're trying not to lie, I'll try to do, I'll try to do. [Music] [Music] If you're trying not to lie, I'll try to do the same. If you're trying not to lie, I'll try to do the same. If you're trying not to lie, I'll try not to lie, baby, no nothing out of home. [Music] Look, I've got the headache from listening to you, I am. [Music] I said I've got the headache, baby, from listening to you, I am. [Music] Well, you just shut your big mouth. I believe I've been found. [Music] [Music] [Music] Now, what's it gonna take, baby? For you to let me out that door. I feel what's it gonna take now, baby? For you to let me out that door. I can't hear what you're saying, darling, 'cause y'all big mouth is in the way. [Music] I feel love here before, but this time I'm moving on. [Music] I feel love here before, baby, no nothing's time I've got to move on. [Music] And I have enough of you, now I've got enough of y'all big mouth. Yeah, y'all big mouth is in the way. [Music] [Music] That was Mike Zito with Big Mouth from his 2009 album, Pearl River. And before that, we heard Dennis Jones with Try Not to Lie From his 2009 album, Pleasure and Pain. Well, I think the strangest title I've ever come across in the blues is this next one. This is Bogus Ben Covington with "I Heard the Voice of a Pork Chop". [Music] I had no shoes for chicken, that's way back y'all in the last branch. For chicken tried to bake me, 'cause I stepped on his way. For chicken calls and to go to jail, I don't let no chicken do that. I would have a soul every inch he had, but I found out he was fat. [Music] I was walking down the street today, just as hungry as I could be. I walked right in us, well, Captain, this is what they said to me. Hey, want to have some chicken? Oh, no, I'll have some beef. Every time I'm in with you, chicken, yeah, you have to pay for me. I hate you, boys, but before I got there, come on to me, I'm there. You talk about having doing things, but I know what's the best. Bad before I got used to having eggs, take yourself in there. I hate you, boys, but before I got there, come on to me, I'm there. [Music] Well, it won't get it won't get it won't get it won't. And I stopped to read my speech. I said I'm the sight of a great big treat, and I too was fast asleep. I think my wife's been in a well-cappedly, just as hungry as I was about. My son was set to telegraph to my throat, as a wreck on the road somewhere. I hate you, boys, but before I got there, come on to me, I'm there. You talk about having doing things, but I know what's the best. Bad, good job, good job, family, take yourself in there. You talk about having doing things, but before I got there, come on to me, I'm here. [Music] [Music] My name, Pigly Wiggly, I've got groceries on my shelf. [Music] My name, Pigly Wiggly, I've got groceries on my shelf. Getting tired, making these nights old by myself. [Music] My mama told me, papa told me to. [Music] My mama told me, papa told me to. Don't let these cattle like women, make no flatter out of. [Music] If I had a listen to what my mama said, if I had a listen to what my mama said, I wouldn't have asked such a hard time in this world today. [Music] I'm leaving you now, baby. Baby, baby, baby, bye-bye. Leaving your mama. Baby, baby, bye-bye. You're gonna miss your daddy, rolling by your cold inside. [Music] [Music] Lovely. Robert Shaw with groceries on my shelf from his 1963 album, The Margarinda. He was a fine exponents of Texas barrel house piano, and he didn't actually record much more than that other one. When it came out on CD, it had six previously on release tracks on terrific stuff. And before that, Bogus Bend Covington, without the voice of a pork chop, recorded in Chicago in September 1928. He was also known as Blind Bend Covington, but he got the title of Bogus because he was only pretending to be blind when he played the minstrel circuit. Obviously a bit of a character. Okay, let's have some down-home blues now. [Music] And kick off the shoe. [Music] While you fixin' me a train, play me some of them down-home blues. [Music] She say, "You know I don't get out much on the town." And you know I've been cut out a lot of that running around all the way long. [Music] I've been keepin' my coo. [Music] But tonight I'm gonna let my heart down, and sit down with these down-home blues. [Music] Down-home, down-home, down-home. [Music] Oh, she wanted to hear what some down-home blues. [Music] Baby, I'm a record, too. [Music] She said, "Take on those bass records here, and let me hear some down-home blues." [Music] [Music] Said, "You know, my old man, go on and find. Because I'll be out, I'll be dirtin' in tonight, but I don't care." [Music] But tonight I'm gonna do as I choose. [Music] I'm gonna get my head back, and party off these down-home blues. [Music] Down-home blues. [Music] Oh, she wanted to hear what these down-home blues. [Music] Baby, I'm a record, too. [Music] She said, "I'm gonna get my head back, and party off these down-home blues." [Music] Down-home, down-home, down-home. [Music] Oh, she wanted to hear what those down-home blues. [Music] [Music] Go on to Mississippi, find me a down-home blues. [Music] Said I'm going to Mississippi, find me a down-home girl. [Music] I don't need no fruity queen. I don't play for a magazine. All I need is a down-home girl. I don't need no big city woman. We're for diamonds and pearls. [Music] Said I'm going to Mississippi, find me a down-home girl. [Music] I don't need no fruity queen. I don't play for a magazine. All I need is a down-home girl. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] The country loving. That's all right with me. [Music] I need a big black woman. Spend some time with me. [Music] Well, I don't need no fruity queen. I don't play for a magazine. All I need is a down-home girl. Going to Mississippi, find me a down-home girl. [Music] Said I'm going to Mississippi, find me a down-home girl. [Music] Said I don't need no fruity queen. I don't play for a magazine. All I need is a down-home girl. [Music] Boy, I showed Mississippi. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Well, first of all, we heard ZZ Hill with down-home blues from his 1981 old down-home. We got it in Jackson, Mississippi. And then, just fading into the distance, we heard ZZ Hill Jr. with down-home girl from his 2006 album, Going to Mississippi. And I always thought he was ZZ Hill's son, but it turns out he's no relation. He just liked the name. Terrific stuff. I think I'll call myself Muddy Waters. Right, let's take the tempo back a bit now to 1929. This is Cleo Gibson.
