MAILBAG
Nemo Fisher in Thailand says he enjoys building models, but they’re just not available in Thailand. Everything would be foreign mail order, which is prohibitively expensive.
We sympathize, Nemo. We’re lucky to live somewhere with Brick-and-Mortar and good mail-order options.
We want to hear from you! Let us know if you have any comments or suggestions scalemodelpodcast@gmail.com.

Topic
The next 20 years in the hobby
Random notes to discuss.
Trends in the hobby?
Rise of 3D printers, need for tech skills?
How are new modelers (Kids and adults) being engaged?
Gundams were just making an appearance in North America 20 years ago, the market now is huge.
Nostalgia is playing a larger part in the hobby. Aging out? Whose nostalgia? Changes by generation…
Better experience for first-time builders - easier and more satisfying kits. This has greatly improved in the past 20 years, multi-color plastic, good snap-fit, much better detail etc
Rise of CAD and computer design. I don’t think the future was even predictable at that point, with the rise of affordable scanning and computer power.
Dave Metzner with Polar Lights really nailed the SF and fantasy market demand.

WHAT’S ON THE BENCH
Stuart
More weathering done on the Tomahawk, but I feel still needs some more. Putting it aside, for now, to focus on getting the Arma 1/72 Hurricane done. Tailplanes put on and getting smaller parts ready for painting. I think I’ve got the scheme I’m going to use.
Geoff - working on finishing the Hobbycraft 1/32 P51A Mustang in a one-off “dazzle” camouflage scheme from 1943/44. It’s a skill building project and not a super detail project, so the focus is on masking, finishing and weathering.
Terry - solid work done on the P-43 and Cavalier. The Cavalier white coat might be good enough to start gloss clear. The P-43 is ready for decals. Wish me luck! Starting cleanup on Moscato’s Dragunn.

THINGS WE’VE SEEN
Geoff - visited the RCAF Museum in Trenton, Ontario last week. Not a huge museum, but we’ll done and very good docents with lots of information. If you are modelling a Halifax, they have one fully restored (non flyable).
Terry - Went to the Iron Maiden show in Columbus, and saw the 1:1 Spitfire prop!
Also, received the Mitsubishi Babs book.
Stuart - Guillow kits at Goodwill this week, got a Spitfire and a Ruff, got a Spitfire for Geoff
Warplane Museum has some new aircraft
