(upbeat music) - And we're back to the Craig Wake Show. Have a message for Craig? Share it by using the Talk Back feature on the iHarge Radio app. - Georgia and Notre Dame still tied up at three apiece in the All Stage Sugar Bowl. About to get to halftime here. Georgia would force a Notre Dame punt, but Notre Dame would then force a Georgia punt. So the Irish gettin' the ball back with about three minutes to go in the second quarter. Both teams have three time outs, both teams only with three points. Real quick, before we get to some more post-game sound courtesy of Will Matthews and Longhorn Radio Network. Stat from Jell Goodrich, my colleague and good friend at burnorangenation.com. I mentioned that Matthew Golden needs only 56 yards to reach the 1,000 yard mark this season. Well, he's already at 10 touchdowns. So, if Golden gets that and a touchdown against Ohio State, so 64 yards and a touchdown, he will be the first Texas receiver to have 1,000 yards in 10 touchdowns since Jordan Shipley in 2009. They've had a couple of 1,000 yard receivers in the last 13 years, had a couple of touchdown years, but never 1,000 and 10 touchdowns since 2009. Matthew Golden with actually, sorry, 64 yards and a touchdown against Ohio State will be the first receivers in Jordan Shipley in 2009 to accomplish that feat. And let's hear from him, Matthew Golden, who had the game tying touchdown and the go ahead two point conversion in double overtime. (upbeat music) - Matthew, you heard everything that he said. You played the game, walk us through your feelings from the beginning all the way to the end. Adversity didn't stop you tonight. - Man, you know, just, just being with my brothers on the field, you know, and having God first, you know, so just knowing that in this game, we know it's gonna be a hard fought battle, you know, 60 minutes, so, you know, just keeping faith in God and having my brothers with me, just knowing that whenever adversity comes, you gotta strike back the right way, and that's what we did. - Having sure hands is super important. And tonight, you were very sure-handed. Talk me through what's going on your mind when the ball's in the air and you gotta do your thing. - You know, just, just, just looking at it as like, that's the only opportunity that you'll get for the rest of the game, you know, so treating that one play, like, that's gonna be our last play. Just telling myself that, you know, I gotta make the play regardless of where the DB is, you know, and props to, oh, quit in the whole line, giving him enough time, you know, to deliver the ball to me in the right. - At the right time, man. - You guys started off really, really fast early on. And then after that, some adversity and some things happen. Can you walk us through what happened in the first quarter moving on into the second? - You know, just trying to find that rhythm as an offense, you know, then we came out, you know, we started finding the rhythm and then we got going, you know, so just like I said, just being together as an offense and just knowing that, you know, every play not gonna go the right way. So coming back in and just regrouping and then just going down the field at one play at a time, man. - Matt Starcois talks about resilience, so you guys really put that to the test. What's the mindset when all of a sudden they've got the lead, you're looking at fourth and 13 with your season on the line. - I mean, that just go back to the summer workouts we had with Coach Bake, you know, them seven quarter runs, anything that we had to do as a team, you know, that's just just putting our back against the wall, you know, we like it that way, you know, we don't wanna any other way. So just knowing that we gonna count on each other in times like that, and we gonna come out on top whatever we gotta do. - Did you have a few of McCuba's interceptions? - Oh yeah, I seen it. - That was nice, that was nice, that was nice. - Eclamation point, right? Thank you, Matthew, thank you so much for your time. - Enjoy this one. - I'll see you in Dallas, yeah, let's do it. - And it wasn't just the touchdown and overtime in the two point conversion. There was that fourth and two in the first half. My goodness, a gutsy play call. I couldn't believe quitting through that ball to the boundary on the left side of the field and fourth down, it was converted and ultimately texted and had to settle for a field goal. But there's that chemistry between Quinn and Matthew Golden. They have moments like that where it's like, okay, that's the Quinn Ewers, that's the big game Quinn. That's the Quinn Ewers that I think scouts the NFL levels say, okay, he can be a first round quarterback because he delivers balls like that. That one, the fourth and 13, and the ball, the gunner, how? Able to navigate the pocket, step up, fire a dart, get the touchdown, put taxes up, and then the throw the Matthew Golden in double overtime, 39-31, and the rest, as they say, is history. So what a performance for Matthew Golden against 64 yards away in a touchdown for being the first Texas wide out there. But 1,000 yards in 10 touchdowns in one season since Jordan Shipley in 2009. And Golden may only play one year at Texas, but shout out the transfer portal because he's gonna leave a legacy here in Austin for years to come. And ultimately, if Texas can find a way to Atlanta for the third time this year, it'll be a big part. A big reason why is because of Matthew Golden and his relationship with Quinn Ewers. More than come here on the Craigway Show, we still have some post-game sound from Alfred Collins, Gunnar Helm and Andrew Makuba update on this game at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, still tied up at three apiece. Neither touch, neither team wants to score a touchdown. We've seen some good plays from Gunnar Stockton in Ryland. Right now, Notre Dame does have the football. I believe they're facing third down right now. They're near midfield. I think it's third and one right now, tied up at three apiece. Both teams with three timeouts just reached the two minute tie down as they call it. And Leonard just got the first down on third and one. So Notre Dame at midfield, under two minutes, tied up at three apiece. The fighting Irish will begin the second half on offense in this match between the two seed and the seven seed with a shot at Penn State. Next week, winner of that, of course, will face, will reach the national championship and face the winner of Texas and Ohio State. And by the way, that Texas Ohio State game, I believe for the first time all year, Texas will be an underdog in this one. The line opening up at Ohio State minus five and a half. Sorry, opened up at five. It has climbed the six. So Ohio State almost a touchdown favorite over the Longhorns next week at the college football playoff side of my final at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. Morning to come here to the Craigway Show as we continue here, our three of Thursday's program.
