It's the Craig Way Show, with the voice of the Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame broadcaster, Craig Way. Just getting started here on this Thursday edition of the Craig Way Show, technically the first Craig Way Show, the 2025 calendar. Year hit began with a bang yesterday. Texas defeating Arizona State 39, the 31, in double over time. Of course, if you heard of the beginning of our show, you heard the highlight montage with Craig Way and Roger Wallace and Craig, now in Norman, Oklahoma, preparing for Texas against Oklahoma, the woman's basketball side of things. We will not have a show tomorrow because I'll be traveling the college station. Craig will be traveling back from Norman. So if you need your Texas football basketball fix, check out the morning kickoff from seven to nine AM. My cards in Mark Henry, they'll have all the action for you tomorrow and then I believe me and Craig will be back together in studio next Monday. Craig, is it the first time we'll have a show together in studio in what almost two weeks? Yeah, in the new year, right? Yeah, I guess we have right before Christmas and the the 23rd, I think, was the last time we probably had one there. Well, no, we were did we do something right after Christmas? We did. I think it's 26, 27. Yeah, so it's been a week. Yeah, we did do that. But it'd be good to get the new year off to off to a good start. And this is that that real crazy compressed time of year where you have a lot of games overlapping football, men's basketball, women's basketball, you have bowl games going on, the NFL playoffs and the cusp of, of starting up. So yeah, it's a, it's a real busy time here over these really for the prior week and really about for the next 10 days to two weeks. How about the performance from the cam scottaboo last night, Craig? I mean, he was as advertised, 143 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and a 42 yard passing touchdown. He had that huge catch down the sideline over Michael Taff for 62 yards. He's on the sideline throwing up. I mean, you got to give credit where credit is due. He played his butt off yesterday. I told you that dude can play man. And I thought he should have been the big club offensive player of the year and not should do her Sanders because he did more for his team. Sanders had a really good season, but the guy who did the most for that team obviously is Travis Hunter won the Heisman trophy. And I have no argument with that. But I thought the scottaboo should have been the offensive player of the year and the big 12. And I think he proved that yesterday. It was just amazing what he did. And having said all of that cam, think about it, the long ones twice just stood up like a stone wall and stopped him on four down twice. They did it to scottaboo. So credit to them about that, but also credit Arizona State for being opportunistic. After the long ones stopped scottaboo on that second time down inside the five yard line, that's when Texas had what amounted to a turnover. It wasn't officially a turnover. But when the ball popped out of Quintravian Weisner's hands and it popped right back to Queen viewers, he gets tackled for a safety. And then even though the free kick from stone was a good, from Willstone was a good kick. And I think I started like on their 31 yard line, the long ones didn't stop them. They came down, they scored, you know, and it got real interesting for a while obviously. So it was credit to both teams, Arizona State for playing really well. Texas now has beaten back to back power for conference opponents in the playoffs. And for people talking about the schedule and stuff like this, that they beaten the ACC champion and they beaten the big 12 champion. The only losses have come to another conference champion, the SEC champion. But now they'll get a shot against an Ohio State team that was incredibly impressive in the Rose Bowl win yesterday evening over Oregon. Yeah, before I get your thoughts on Ohio State, I thought Texas defense, we did a great job of stopping Kim Skateboo, but the differential in plays run from Arizona State to Texas in time of possession had a huge impact on that game. And we saw it in the second half with the fatigue of the Texas offensive players. I mean, by the end of the game, Craig, Arizona State ran almost 40 more plays than Texas did in that contest. And I think we could kind of see that by the fourth quarter. Yeah, I think it took its toll, for sure. And it's kind of a weird deal. You know, you won't, you'll take the quick scores like they had to play 41 seconds on that 77 yard opening drive, then the punt return for the touchdown. But it did start to skew things back the other way. That's why that old argument about running shoe to offenses that takes a toll on your defense. Well, anytime you can go ahead and put the points on the board, you'll take the points. But the long ones had to rely on that defense so much. And they finally did start to wear down, even then it took the trick play to get them back to within a touchdown striking distance. Then they came back down and got the big touchdown and the two point conversion of tie-at. And then it was left to the dramatic, so the moment for Texas to respond on fourth and 13. And after that touchdown, it had the quick hit to Gunnar Helm to start the second overtime and the two-pointer to Matthew Golden, then Andrew Makuba coming up with his fifth interception of the season. Huge stuff. >> And now they'll face Ohio State next Friday at the Cotton Bowl in Ohio State, went up early over Oregon from the jump, led 34 to nothing at one point. Familiar quarterback, Will Howard, who said yesterday that the one team he didn't beat at Kansas State was Texas, so he was looking forward to this game. But the one thing that he has that he did not have at Kansas State is a lot of weapons on defense and on offense, especially Jeremiah Smith, the freshman Whiteout. >> Yeah, the long ones are going to be buttoned up in the secondary when it comes to defending Smith. And automatically what comes to mind is Jotty Barron, who was the defensive MVP yesterday of the Peach Bowl. And the fact that he might draw a lot of the primary assignment, but I don't think it'll be all of that. I think that Sarg and the coaching staff overall have no problem putting Manning Muhammad on him or however they mix the coverages and get safety help over the top against a guy like Smith. They've got really good running back straight beyond Henderson's going to be a load. We know that. So these are two really good defenses that I think are going to be tested by two good offenses. >> Okay, now let's get your thoughts on Texas basketball, both men's and women's. Of course, starting tonight, 8 o'clock tip off, 745 pregame between Texas and Oklahoma on 1-3-1 FM Austin's 80 station. Greg, you'll be on the call with Kathy Harston. It's an Oklahoma program that has given a fixed shape for a lot of fits. Do any Brown check in the read and react type offense from Oklahoma did not lose the Texas at all last season? And we thought we were going to see a Texas OU matchup in the Big 12 championship. We did not Iowa State was able to upset Oklahoma, but this is a really big game the night the start-off conference played for the Longhorns. >> Yeah, you mentioned Jenny Barancic. What she's done, she's now in her fourth season after Sherry Cola had all those great seasons as the head coach and Barancic took a couple of years to start building it up. But now she has a really good team. There's a lot of the same returning regulars. Naveya Tott is the tiny Tott point guard at all of 5-3. Kind of runs the offense there. Say, Harold Williams gives them double digit scoring. Peyton Verhols is a three-point shooting weapon as well. Then you have veterans like Skyler Mann who seemingly has been there forever. And then and then and at Lexi Keys, you can come off the bench and you hit that gigantic three-pointer to help Oklahoma get one of its two wins over Texas last year. And then the big addition is Reagan Beers, the 6-4 junior transfer center from Oregon State, she averages a double double. She averages 17 points and 10 rebounds. That's where the challenge is going to come inside for Texas for Taylor Jones and Kyla Oldacre and even Alia Moore coming back to her hometown era. They've got to stay out of foul difficulty which has plagued them of late even as they've won games handily. They're going to have to have available bodies to defend Reagan Beers tonight. >> And then on the men's side on Saturday they play Texas A&M, a 6-30 airtime, an 98.1 FM Cavett in 1300, the zone, 7 o'clock tip-off time, 13th-ranked A&M Craig, a team that is number one in the country and offensive rebound and just like tax in Oklahoma tonight, a real, real tough start the SEC play for Rodney Terry and the horns. >> It's a team whose best player is a guard. Wade Taylor, the fourth is really good. He averaged 16 points per game. But you pointed it out, in addition to him, and Zert Phelps, the point guard transfer from SWU, who averages 13 points and 4 rebounds. Those are the two real kind of stars, if you will. But this team rebounds, they're out rebounding their opponents by almost 12 boards per game. You compare that to the long ones, they're out rebounding their opponents by half of that, 6 points per game. And in Henry Coleman, who is a grad student, he averages 5 boards. Anderson Garcia off the bench is a swing man who averages 6 rebounds. And then, in addition to that, I mentioned Solomon Washington, a big guy who averages 6 rebounds as well. So, they crash the boards. And Buzz Williams always has that team fired up. And hey, it's Texas against Texas A&M, the most recent addition of that cotton holdings, Lone Star showdown rival research. We know how that went over in college station on Thanksgiving weekend. So Aggie fans will be all fired up for this one. First ever SEC conference game tonight for the long ones and for Oklahoma, by the way, on the women's side. And then on Saturday, first ever SEC conference game for Texas, as they take on Texas A&M. First time back in the Rita Arena, Sam Swinn. 2012, the last time, and Texas won that last meeting there. Long ones lead the overall series significantly. It's like 138 to 86. But the Aggies had their moments there in Rita Arena. I'll never forget, you know, AC Law hitting a three right at the buzzer in the fan storm of the court. And they climb right over Eddie Orton and I, Eddie, I think came up swinging, you know, that sort of thing. The fans were charging the floor. That was one time that happened when Kevin Durant was playing, and then they had a great game back at the Erwin Center when Durant took command and double overtime. And he hit that gigantic three and I said, there's your national player of the year. And he turned out to be that and AC Law had a great year, but they've had some big battles that read as well. So it's going to be a lot of fun. First time for Texas to be there in 13 years. Looking forward to it. Look forward to the CU on Saturday with Eddie. First time in college station for me at a Texas A&M athletic event. So I'm excited to see that. And of course, I'll talk to you the night on the broadcast of Texas in Oklahoma. We'll look forward to an appreciated cam and thanks for holding things down while I'll be back in the house on Monday. Yes, sir. Safe travels back. We'll talk to you soon. Thanks, Greg. You bet. All right. Texas Oklahoma tonight. We'll tip off 745 pregame actually at 103-1 on 103-1 FM Austin's 80 station, eight o'clock tip off. Kuregway and Kathy Harson on the call of Texas in Oklahoma, number five, first number nine. And then Saturday, Texas in Texas A&M, their first SEC conference game of the season as well. Both men's and women's beginning SEC play this weekend. It's going to be a very tough task for both teams as they get things going. We are just getting started here on this Thursday edition of the Kuregway show up next inconceivable. And because we will not have a show Friday, we will travel to the more flash at the lower 48 states and get you some Florida man in Florida woman storage. That's up next year as the Kuregway show continues after this breaking news. And this one is almost unbelievable. Yeah, it's all about new customers at bet 365 because they get $150 in bonus bets when they bet $5 and even better bonus bets can be used on the spread totals and player props.
