Man With Stolen Handgun Arrested in Red Bank, New Jersey

Around 6:38 PM on April 29, 2024, the Red Bank Police Department received a call reporting a Hispanic male with a handgun in the vicinity of 22 N Bridge Avenue. Patrolman Jeffrey Lewandowski located a male suspect matching the caller’s description shortly afterwards and immediately exited his patrol to apprehend him. The suspect was identified as Edgar Moran-Rivera, and as soon as was apprehended, Lieutenant Matthew Ehrenreich retrieved the firearm from him. After a brief struggle, Edgar was handcuffed and placed under arrest.
It would later be revealed through a police investigation that the firearm was a .380 Smith & Wesson body style handgun with a laser attachment. The handgun had previously been reported stolen out of the Wapakoneta Police Department in Ohio.
Sergeant John Camarca transported Edgar back to the Red Bank Police Department for further processing. He was charged with the following offenses before being transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institute: Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Resisting Arrest and Receiving Stolen Property.
