No doubt a change is in order at the White House, and I think we're going to get it this year. Just saying, just guessing, feeling the movement right now. It's pretty on fire, and for good reason. And when you look at things like our border, where we've got terrorists all around us, you know, we'll talk more about that in just a minute, but also what took place, you know, with the George Floyd case, and the wave of just dissent on police, and basically putting a target on police officers' backs. And it really hasn't led up. I mean, police are just being destroyed by prosecutors in liberal-run cities, and judges are ignoring the fact that they're out there doing their job by, you know, light sentences are just completely releasing criminals. The wave is really having a huge impact on the safety of most Americans, because they can't recruit and get officers back on forces. Joining us now to talk a little bit more about this is Lance LaRou, so back again, a leading attorney also, founder of the Blue Line Lawyer Institute, and an author of "When Cops Kill and Blue News." Lance, welcome back. Thanks for being with us. Thanks for having me. Are we starting to see the pendulum swing back a little bit? I mean, how serious is this, or is this just something that's going to continue until major changes start happening in all the cities, not just the White House? You know, we're seeing some signs of it swinging back, but the problem is that when you decimate law enforcement agencies by making it very difficult for people to apply, making it unattractive for people to apply, and then more importantly, running off and disfavoring the elders in the profession, encouraging them to retire early, it's going to take a while to swing back. And the pendulum can swing politically, but it takes a while for that workforce to get back up to speed. And in a lot of places, like Democratic National Convention is going to be coming up, Chicago is down almost 2,000 police officers, so they'll secure the Democratic National Convention. I've no doubt about that, but people in outlying areas and suburbs may not see a police officer for a week. I was going to say, if you call 911 during that good luck, you may have to wait 30 minutes. Well, there's somebody in my house, well, we'll do the best we can. I mean, crazy how this is. You know, I think it all started with the Floyd case. Am I right there? But since then, I think it's gone into the court systems where they're getting no respect. The officers are doing their job. And the next thing you know, the criminals are flipping the bird to the TV cameras, walking out of New York subways. You know, it's just like, well, what am I doing out here? Risking my life as an officer, and then this. Yeah, we talk about this in the book, Blue News, and all the profits go to law enforcement charities. Nonfiction books have generated about $40,000 to law enforcement charities so far. But it happened well before Floyd. So it was happening around Ferguson. It was happening just before Ferguson. But after Ferguson, when the lie of Hands Up Don't Shoot came out, Michael Brown was not shot in the back. He was not shot with his hands up. When that lie came out, there was this piling on, if you will, and perpetuation of that false narrative that led to everything from officers being ambushed, physically ambushed and killed to officers being ridiculed, pummeled, and political prosecutions going forward for the purpose of either gaining sound bites and gaining election money or raising money for nonprofits. So what we saw was this juggernaut that began with a lie, and it is absolutely in full force in some communities. Some are backing off, as you said, and it goes to the defund the police movement, which is the fastest, conceived, implemented, and failed social policy in the United States history. Where do you think you mentioned a keyword, I think, perpetuated? Where do you think most of the perpetuation takes place from inside the communities or the media? It definitely doesn't take, and I don't know we can choose one or the other, but I will say it does not take place inside the communities. When I was policing, poor communities wanted us there. The grandmother who's raising three children trying to keep them away from gang members waiting on the bus wanted the police there. The small business owner who wants to be able to keep their product on the shelves without either being a victim of theft or being a victim of a robbery wanted the police there. So you have these activists who are raising money for causes, or they have their own security. They just don't care about the people that they're supposedly advocating for, raising these issues when it's just not true. They're distorting facts, they're arguing, and they're really ignoring the impact. Now, when you talk about the media, it is one thing that I talk about in Blue News. One of the problems is law enforcement has not traditionally told their story well. Law enforcement officers in uniform have no first amendment rights. So agencies typically have sat back and said, "Let's let this blow over. Let's try to find a way." But I think what's turning the tide is agencies using social media, using avenues to get out and tell their story about all the amazing, wonderful people who work in law enforcement, and what an incredible job they do. Yeah, turning the worm and pushing back has to happen faster these days than just sitting back and waiting and just going, "I don't know what to do, but it's just going on." No, not already. And I think the media needs to be more responsible, not feeding the bees, but, you know, easier said than done, especially when there's political motivation to, you know, upset or ruin certain candidates.
