In Alabama's Morning News, I'm J.T. John Rogers joins us now as a pollster and director of client strategy signal. John, welcome in. Thanks for being here. G.T. Great to be with you. Our firm started in Alabama in Montgomery and I'm from Alabama at Myself. Gadsden, although I'm in the D.C. area right now. So just great to be on with you. Awesome, man. Thank you so much. So you've been watching what's been happening, obviously. I mean, unless you live in another planet, you're certainly aware of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump and then leading right into the convention. My gosh, what a crazy last four or five days it has been. First of all, your thoughts on Donald Trump being so resilient after he gets clipped by the shooter, standing up pumping his fists saying, Hey, let's go. Continue to fight. If I don't come back, fight, just keep fighting. Just unbelievable to me. It really was remarkable to see. And, you know, maybe think of Teddy Roosevelt when he was shot by would be assassin and Roosevelt refused to step down. He just like he'd like to give him the speech with a bullet in his chest for 30 minutes. And I think what's remarkable about that is President Trump's sheer force of will in that moment. And you contrast that with the current occupant of the White House and President Biden just seems weak and ineffectual. And boy, the race is really trending in Trump's direction. You know, you're a pollster. So you look at the bigger picture times. You see polling numbers come and go and the difference in, you know, the four or five percent air difference possibilities. But, you know, the general trend to me right now, obviously, it's the assassination attempt leading into the convention that's got a tsunami of support and energy with a Republican party right now. But your thoughts on how that will play out next week in the week beyond because we're still three months away from November 5th. And there's a lot of, you know, green, if you will, between where we are in the goal line. What it's done is energize an already very energized Republican and Trump base. And those people are going to go vote no matter what. And not only are they going to go vote now, but they're going to volunteer. They're going to put yard signs out. And so the Republican base is completely energized. It's also unified. You saw that last night at the convention where Nikki Haley and Juan DeSantis, both of whom obviously challenged Trump for the nomination, they gave ringing endorsements and urged their followers to support President Trump. So the base is energized. The party is unified. And meanwhile, you look across the aisle and the Democratic party in contrast is as fractured as it's ever been. Yeah. I mean, what are they going to do? I mean, Joe Biden says he's not going anywhere. Do you anticipate the party in Obama and everybody behind the scenes making a move with or without his suggestion? I mean, his cooperation? I mean, they really can't, can they? Biden is dug in and it would be very, very difficult to dislodge him if he just refuses to go. But, you know, you look at these numbers and, you know, we did a poll recently in a suburban Chicago congressional district that Biden had won by 15 points in 2020. And it was neck and neck, right? That was post debate and that was before this last weekend's attempted assassination on President Trump. So what's happening is Democrats who are running in very competitive districts, they don't want Biden to be the nominee. They know that he is an anchor on their ability to be competitive. And so, but it really has put the party in a conundrum and it's going to be just fascinating to watch and see how things play out between now and the Democratic Convention in the Toledo. Yes. Yeah, as much as we see some of the erosion and support from Joe Biden, you know, fading into the sunset, are you surprised at all that there's still even, what, 35 to 37, 38% people are going, hey, blue, no matter who, yeah, I'm on team Biden, let's go. It's remarkable, but I don't know that it's maybe that surprising because our country is very polarized, right? And there are fewer and fewer people in the middle and more and more people know, yes, I'm definitely Democratic and I'm going to vote for the Democrats, no matter who they put up or who are Republican, right? But I do think the Trump campaign, the Republicans feel very, very confident at this point heading into July and the rest of the convention and going into August. And I think that's partly why Trump chose JD Vance. This is nominee Vance. I think we'll have some appeal in those Midwestern states. He's got a really remarkable story that he chronicled at hillbilly elegy, but that was a governing pick. That was a signal from the Trump team that they feel very confident about where things are headed and they wanted a vice presidential nominee whose view is closely aligned with President Trump's. You know, my wife in a watched hillbilly elegy last night on Netflix and I was aware of it, but watching the entire, you know, movie put together so nicely by Ron Howard, you know, my wife, Judy looked at me, she says, my gosh, that's our next president after Donald Trump. You know, she was immediately drawn to his background, what he brings to the table is intelligence, the Marines. You know, he understands poor people trying to make a living and get food on the table. And it's conservative values. I mean, he checks a lot of boxes. That's exactly right. And what's going to happen? You can already see it. The media and some on the left are already trying to say, oh, well, Vance, you know, he's an isolationist, whatever. He's got some unusual views outside the mainstream. But when the American people broadly are introduced to him tonight when he gives a private time speech and then over the next few days, what they're going to hear that uplifting story of, you know, a young man who was born in tough, tough situations in the heartland of America and who rose up from that with the help of his grandmother, went to the Marine Corps and then on to Yale Law School and now to be a U.S. Senator. And it's a really remarkable story. Yeah, it really is. All right, John, great to check in with you. Thank you for your insight this morning.
