At the convention, back with us this morning, John, welcome and thanks for being here. - Paul, thank you, JT. Thanks for having me on today. - I watched Hillbilly Elegy last night, which is the movie Ron Howard put together with Amy Adams about JD Vance's upbringing and his life from his memoirs that he put together. I don't know if you've read the book or seen that on Netflix, but boy, I highly recommend it. It really brings out what he was all about how he was raised and where he comes from. - Well, it's a remarkable story. We'll hear from JD Vance tonight, talking about his life story, introducing himself to voters all across the country that are not familiar with him, people in Ohio are familiar with him. He's their junior senator. But for most Americans that don't follow politics, it will be their first introduction to JD Vance and his first opportunity to make a first impression and to convey the idea that he's ready. He's ready to be president. He'll be a heartbeat away from the president if Donald Trump wins in November. - Yeah, and the energy right now out of the convention, I'm sure you feel that it is big right now. And I think we're seeing more unity than we've seen with the Republican party. We've talked over the years about how so many Republicans or rhinos or non-Trumpers and behind the scenes, they're running different agendas and it's not a really united, but a bit more of a divided Republican party with Donald Trump in the last presidency and through the Biden administration as well. But I'm feeling a sense of more unity, especially when you watch Nikki Haley's speech last night and the energy that's coming out of the convention. Do you feel and see that from your perspective there as well? - Well, you always see that at conventions. Conventions are the purpose of them is to unify the party. You'll see the same thing a month from now with Democrats, where they try to unify ahead of November and embrace Joe Biden as their nominee. He is going to be their nominee. I think that these efforts to try to force him to pass the baton to somebody else are going to fail. So it's going to be a rematch. But as for Republicans, yeah, it's a unified party right now as it relates to the convention. We saw during the primary process, even when Nikki Haley dropped out of the race, she continued to garner around 20% of the vote. And, you know, it's really an unknown, you know, until we get to election day when the actual votes are cast as to whether that 20% of the Republican party comes around and comes on board to support Donald Trump in November. - Yeah, there is a lot of time between next week after the convention and November 5th in your right. Republicans need to continue this message in every state as they go back and try and get things ramped up and keep the pedal to the metal. I did want to get your thoughts being an attorney yourself on the decision with the jury and Bob Menendez, Senator from New Jersey Democrat guilty on all 16 corruption counts of accepting money and gold bars and his wife getting a Mercedes. He says he's going to appeal it's Schumer's calling for him to resign. Your thoughts legally, first of all, he will appeal, right? - Oh, he'll appeal. I don't know what grounds there are to make an appeal. It seems like the Department of Justice which prosecuted this case did everything by the book. And this was one of those situations where Bob Menendez beat the rap the first time that he was charged with federal crime, very similar to what he was charged with here. There was a hung jury this time around as you point out the jury pretty quick in coming to a unanimous decision guilty on all counts against him. And as you point out, the leader for the Democrats in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, immediately calling for him to resign. The step down deck does not seem likely. I would not expect that to happen, which will potentially be problematic for Democrats in holding on to that Senate seat in November. - Right, absolutely. Well, John, I appreciate you. Thanks. We'll chat again as the convention continues tonight. - Hey guys, it is Ryan. I'm not sure if you know this about me, but I'm a bit of a fun fanatic when I can. I like to work, but I like fun too.
