(upbeat music) ChumbaCasino.com. - No percussive. (upbeat music) - The Republican Convention goes on as scheduled. Today is day one of four days. It'll be now Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Royal Neil, our correspondent is in Milwaukee this morning. Roy, good morning. - Hey there, JT, good morning. - So where were you and when did you hear about what took place with the assassination attempt? I was getting ready to go to dinner with my wife and all of a sudden I get a text message from my sister. Can you believe what's happened? And I'm like, what are you talking about? And she goes, turn on the news. I turn, I'm like, you got to be kidding me. Donald Trump's been shot. And how did you get the news, where were you? - I was home packing for this trip when my phone started buzzing and going off. So yeah, pretty much the same. And pretty shocking is we were all a bit confused about exactly what was happening. As these things unfold in real time, you don't want to say the president was shot until you have absolute confirmation. So some of the things were like, oh, he fell and he tripped or whatever it was until he finally figured out exactly what happened. You do have so many questions. - Unbelievable. Yeah, the investigation obviously needs to be looking into a number of things. We'll talk more about that through the show this morning, but the convention goes on. Donald Trump is in Milwaukee and let's go. What a rock star pumping his fist. Now he's there to get going and take the nomination. Gonna be a busy four days. - It is. And apparently Donald Trump will be appearing at the convention today. He had been set to appear of course on Thursday and accept the nomination. Typically what happens is the president with the nominee rather lays low and then makes a brief appearance on Wednesday when the vice presidential candidate gives a speech. Typically the top of the ticket walks out. They just wave but don't say anything, play a little coy and then give their big speech with the balloon drop on Thursday. But in this case, we now know that Donald Trump is expected to appear tonight. What he does, not sure. Does he come out with his vice presidential choice tonight? All pretty much these plans are now in pencil as we try to figure out what happens next. - Yeah, I would imagine still pretty fluid situation. In fact, he's even said he is gonna be changing the speech and rewriting it. And obviously he wants a nation to come together, everybody unite, Joe Biden saying the same thing. So I didn't realize he was gonna come there and speak tonight. Do we expect him to actually come before the microphone? Any indication as to, you know, what he may say a little short version. Hey, we're gonna kick it off and let's go. I'll be back Thursday. We'll talk more about whatever. Any indication on what he might bring tonight? - Nothing at all. We don't have a speaker schedule at all which has been very frustrating as we try to plan this. We did see that Nikki Haley was added to the schedule for tomorrow. Keep in mind, she had released her delegates last week and then she was not planning to attend at all. But apparently on Thursday they reached out and had an agreement to have Haley take part Tuesday. They finalized things Saturday morning, hours before the assassination attempt. And we know that unity was already going to be a theme for the RNC, but the focus was going to be on bringing the party together. But now as you said, the former president changing up his speech a bit, trying to bring the country together. And they're going through a lot of the other prepared remarks by the other speakers this week. So they're trying to perhaps take out some incendiary language and try to insert more about that theme of unity. - Yeah, I hope that is the case and it resonates. And I hope it continues. You know, everybody was saying, you know, Joe Biden gave a nice response to all of this initially on Sunday afternoon then from the White House again, last night and, you know, there's a lot of people saying, well, all right, well, let's just check this whole thing out a week after the convention and see if it's just a pause on all the rhetoric. But the rhetoric, you're right, has been so violent and volatile and, you know, we're going to go through all of that as well, what the Democrats have been saying over the last few months and years. You know, this whole thing needs to stop. He's, you know, been compared to Hitler. We should be showing uprising in the streets. He's got to be stopped and Biden calling for it. Needs to be a target on him. I mean, just crazy stuff. And hopefully, you know, America is done with that, a kind of craziness. But I thought it was interesting that the Secret Service, one of the coordinators for the convention has said that there will be no changes to the security plan for the convention. I guess they were already ramped up beyond anybody's belief. - Right, it pretty much, it's the max they do. All right, so they're already at a 10. And I think she was essentially trying to put the message out to people in the walk. He's saying, we're not going to close down on another 10 blocks of downtown. You know, I'm here, the barricades, more of the barricades were going up yesterday in phases as more of the streets are being closed down. And this is layers of security, which is how they think that they can best protect the former president and the delegates and hopefully the media as well. But these are those national designations that they have for these kinds of events. This is Super Bowl, that kind of a thing where they have, because there are concerns that, you know, these locations are potential targets. - All right, Roy, be safe, thank you very much. - It is Ryan here and I have a question for you.
