We are less than one week out from the Republican National Convention, and still no vice presidential pick by Donald Trump. What could be happening? Jeff Mann also joins me from Chicago. Jeff, what's going on? Look, if you're President Trump at this point, what you want to do is to make as little noise as possible and just watch the chaos ensue within the Democratic Party and Joe Biden's reelection team. But we did hear from Trump last night on Hannity, saying, confirming that J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio, North Dakota, Governor Doug Burgum, part of a short list that he says he hopes to wait to announce in terms of his VP pick and wants to wait until the convention to make a big announcement. He does say that the announcement could come sooner, but look, this is Trump. I mean, before politics, he was a master of pomp and circumstance and TV production. So if I'm a Betty Mann, it's not going to, we're not going to know until maybe Tuesday, the likely Thursday. Gosh. You know, Donald Trump, everything he does is based on a strategy. So what strategy do you think he's employing? Is it one of going after somebody who's able to bring a important state like that wouldn't be Doug Burgum because I don't think anyone needs the Dakotas, Marco Rubio doesn't help because he's already in Florida. He might. Tim Scott, I guess, is not on the list, but South Carolina would be nice. So is it that or is it he wants somebody who's chores up some of his shortcomings because, you know, you need somebody with a personality that's able to maybe reach other people? What are some of the things you think he's looking at? Well, first of all, we don't know that Tim Scott is not on the list. But this is all, it's all hearsay, basically, at this point, you know, Byron Donald's might be on the list. Tulsi Gabbard could be on the list. Ben Carson, you know, perhaps, you know, it's being whittled down, but we just, the truth is we just don't know. But you know what President Trump had said last night on Hannity was that, you know, he wants somebody that can help him win, but he also wants somebody who is a fighter and who can, ultimately, be president at some point. Who is that and who can help him win and who's got what it takes to, you know, take the range as the leader of the free world. Well, another thing to consider is this Donald Trump is going to be necessarily a lame duck president because he can't run a third time. So whoever he puts in as his VP pick is going to be set up to possibly be the next Republican candidate for president in 2028. That's correct. Yeah. So so who's going to be, you know, is it somebody who can kind of split the divide between the party, somebody who can attract Democrats, somebody who can attract black voters, somebody who can attract, you know, independence, it's all going to be important. It's all part of the mix, I believe, but at the same time, you know, it's it's Trump and Trump's decision alone, and and and so we'll see. I mean, lots of speculation, but truth is, it's just it's all hearsay at this point. But I would I would expect it's going to be similar to 2008 when, you know, during the convention, the announcement was made that this unknown governor from the state of Alaska was going to be on the ticket. And so, you know, that was it was kind of a news frenzy. Trump doesn't want that right now. He wants the news to be right where it's at, and it's not good news for for President Biden. His campaign out with a statement on Trump's interview on Hannity last night, and they say, you know, a low energy Donald Trump has been off the trail for 12 days and nothing has changed. They call him the habitual liar, a convicted criminal, and who will make himself a dictator. But, you know, it's it's Trump's show next week, and, you know, he's got a lot of time and effort into it. And so, you know, we'll see what happens. But a lot of excitement for Republicans in the state of Wisconsin, as the RNC approaches, by the way, there's going to be the, the, the, so this is Wisconsin, there's a there's a thought that the race could come down to obviously battleground states, but the state of Wisconsin, it's a state where, you know, 2016 and 2020 was was won or lost, depending on how you see it, by less than 1 percentage of the vote. And the city that beer made famous is kicking things off this weekend with a delegate welcoming party entitled Red, White, and Brew. Well, and, you know, Milwaukee definitely has had it share political problems here recently, and not to mention turmoil in the streets. So I could see it being a state that's hungry for a change in the White House, and maybe this will be the year Republicans do carry the state of the state of Wisconsin, because it's a state that probably would be very much needed by Republicans if they want to clinch in in the fall.
